This was originally recorded in 2021 and in honour of one of our fallen; Alfred Bar (R.I.P Mar 08/2017). We talk about life, joining the military, and Joe shares some good stories. Including one of a particularly bad parachute exit. It brings in perspective the danger of the job but also the value of excellent training.

Joe is to be the next course NCO, a very loving human, knowledgeable SAR tech, and good friend. There is a lot shared in the episode and i hope you enjoy it.

To Al:

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,

If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,

If all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,

Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,

And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

Im back! This time with some funny stories from Cookie, a SAR Tech from course 42. My episodes are sporadic but I've appreciated the on going support from everyone. 435 Rescue Squadron out of Winnipeg MB Dispatched 3 SAR Techs to jump into a plane crash 300km North of Yellowknife at night, in a blizzard. The SAR Techs cared for all 10 patients for around 14 hours before extraction was possible. A positive mission that demonstrates our elite capabilities to deliver care in the most inaccessible areas of Canada. There is a lot of online media surrounding this epic: but here is it firsthand from one of the SAR Techs.

I had a short but unique opportunity to talk to Paul Adams about a Rescue close to Winnipeg, MB. The episode doesn't have an audio intro so you can hear our conversation the first time we have met each other. Ultimately, our chat was cut short, but the details are pretty incredible.

I am extremely excited to release this episode. I got the chance to sit with CWO Darryl Cattell and chat about a variety of things. One big thing we discuss is the new Fix Wing Platform "King Fisher".

NOTE: we use "OTU" acronym a few times: Operational Training Unit. Basically, a school for teaching aircrew in a training environment rather than training in an operational environment.

Dan Bodden is a SAR Tech from course 40 and is doing a bike ride to raise money for Wounded Warriors.

BBR22: 100 Days to Victory

The Canadian Corps would play a decisive role on the road to victory during the last 100 days of WW1. The Corps progressed from victory to victory as they advanced from Amiens in the pursuit to Mons from August 8th – November 11th, 1918. During the last 100 days, 30 Canadians and Newfoundlanders were awarded the Victoria Cross.

The triumphs came at a high price. Canadians and Newfoundlanders suffered 45,835 casualties including more than 6,800 killed. Included in that number was Canadian, Private George Lawrence Price, who was struck in the chest by a sniper’s bullet as he emerged from the doorway of a house in a small Belgian village. He died at 10:58 a.m. on November 11th, 1918, a mere two minutes before hostilities ceased.

BBR22 “One Hundred Days to Victory” will honour their service and sacrifice.

The following is a 1st hand account from the Pilot of the boldest and most massive air disaster rescue mission ever undertaken by the Canadian military in the High Arctic. Edge of your seat story, and incredibly emotional.

Every year, in the cold and darkness of late October, personnel at Canadian Forces Station Alert on Ellesmere Island, Nunavut, gather at a cairn near the runway to remember the crew and passengers of Hercules 130322 who lost their lives during a resupply mission to the station. On October 30, 1991, at approximately 4:40 p.m., flight 22 of Operation Boxtop – as the biannual resupply mission is called – was on its final approach to the station from Thule Air Force Base in Greenland. As the CC-130 Hercules from 435 Transport and Rescue Squadron, loaded with 3,400 litres of diesel fuel, began its descent, the pilot flying lost sight of the runway. Moments later, radar contact and communication were lost as the aircraft crashed approximately 16 km south of the station. The crew of another CC-130 Hercules, also bound for Alert, saw the fires of the crash and identified the location of Boxtop 22. The crash took the lives of five Canadian Armed Forces members – four died in the crash and one perished before help arrived.

Stony Smith is a friend of mine who goes way back. He is a really unique individual with whatever gene it is that makes us do crazy things. In this episode, we have quite a conversation about what is involved in taking on the World's Toughest Endurance Race. Stony attempted this 3 times and was ultimately successful.

This relates to SAR as anyone who can figure out how to finish a race like this understands precisely what it takes in terms of training, mindset, lifestyle, everything.

Enjoy

It's important we remember the fallen and today Dylan talks with ALs younger sister, Tanya. The episode today gives an interesting perspective on AL as a brother and what it was like growing up with him.

We also talk about where the show is going; very exciting!

There's a new fitness program coming Dec 1st for prepping for the selection legacy PT test. Messages for selection should be out soon (I have zero info on this) time to send it.
