Some veterans face a more personal battle on the homefront after they are discharged from military service. The Observer-Reporter will discuss the plight facing veterans upon coming home in a series of occasional stories that will focus on a variety of topics, including post-traumatic stress disorder, challenges of receiving adequate medical care and benefits, homelessness and a high rate of suicide. The series will run in the newspaper's print and digital editions throughout 2015, with special online features, including additional data, videos and podcasts. Ray Corcoran knew he had a problem when he found himself in a hotel room with his toe on a trigger of a goose gun and the barrel in his mouth ready to pull the trigger. Corcoran then went to get help for his issues, which were later diagnosed as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
