A podcast where we chat with experts to learn about climate change here in Ōtautahi. Join us as we go on a journey to find explanations, solutions, and hope for the future
Dr Diane Mollenkopf chatted with us about the complexities of sustainable businesses. We discussed the role of businesses in a circular economy, the repair movement and the advantages of businesses remaining in control of their products.
This month, we spoke with Dr Kelly Dombroski, a human geographer specialising in feminist geography, China and Southeast Asia, and community economies. We talked about a range of topics including defining the term "community economy" and what it looks like in Ōtautahi, how we can learn from other cultures, the impact that COVID-19 lockdowns had on access to food, and we questioned the need for a revolution to adapt to climate change.
We chatted to Dr Lindsey Conrow, an expert in urban transport and wellbeing, and covered topics like what is active transport and the challenges of collecting data on cycling patterns. We also talk about how cars affect how we design cities and infrastructure, and how having more transport modes other than cars can create social cohesion and social equality.
We speak with Dr Mathew Hughs, an expert on disaster, risk and resilience, who also has a background in paleoclimatology (find out what that means in the podcast!). We speak about how carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is measured, the difference between a hazard and a disaster, how the earth is constantly changing and how we can learn from the earth's history to adapt to the changing climate.
How we might travel on holiday in the future, driving behaviour with electric vehicles, zombie cars and why EVs aren’t a complete replacement for traditional cars are all topics discussed in this episode with Dr Helen Fitt, from Lincoln University.
For this first episode Emily and Molly introduce themselves and discuss what they learned from talking to Clinical and Counselling Psychologist, Dr Jackie Feather and Psychotherapist, Michael Apathy about eco anxiety.
Emily and Molly chat with film director Kathleen Gallagher about her latest film which will premiere in the Whānau Mārama: New Zealand International Film Festival
