We see two truths in Jesus calling His Twelve apostles- -1- Jesus placed a priority on prayer. -2- Jesus shows us the power of the call.
How do you know if a pastor has faithfully preached the Word- How do you evaluate a sermon- What is effective, biblical preaching- What role do you play as the congregation in the preaching of God's Word--As pastors, we are charged by Christ Jesus to preach the WORD. The inerrant, authoritative God-breathed Scriptures. Not trite stories, not motivational talks, not political speeches, not personal testimonies that are all about ourselves and never get to the Bible. -In Luke Chapter 4, we have an actual sermon from the mouth of Jesus Himself. Jesus was the greatest preacher to ever live.
Many states are opening up and churches are beginning to meet back in their buildings for the first time in months. Pastor Sean preaches a message to his congregation in preparation for them to reopen. Unity is essential in times like these.
Has the church from a wrong view of God, a caricature of God, so separated GOD from SUFFERING - SIN from SICKNESS - DEATH that we fail to see that God does chastise His people for their sins - - sometimes using sickness - even death-- That there can be a quid pro quo -i.e.,-this for that-- calculus for sinful behavior--
Throughout the book, Job searches for truth. He does not allowed shallow answers - nay sayers to deter him. He does not deny God-s sovereignty or His justice. Although perplexed, disturbed, and at times angry with God, he does not turn his back on God. This is the ultimate test of faith. When challenged - buffeted yet it will not allow one to turn away from God or God will not allow one to be tried beyond what one can bear.
