Coach Kevin focuses on mindset in this episode. Coach spends a lot of time with his runners working on the mental part of the game. He shares the lessons that can help you get more comfortable being uncomfortable:

  • Pushing on and persevering is hard. That is why we are endurance athletes.
  • Sharpen your mental focus during your training.
  • Learn to lean into the struggle. Expect it. Embrace it.
  • Seek to "write your own story" in each workout and each race.
  • Pre-race "pep talk".

If it was easy, everyone would do it.

We first talked about Dumb Runner in Episode 14. It is one of our most listened-to episodes. Why? Because we can all relate. We are all the Dumb Runner.
It feels like it is time to revisit, update, and add to... the Dumb Runner list.

Coach Kevin spends much of his time attempting to teach our runners how to avoid the Dumb Runner mistakes. But…understand… Coach is not standing on a self-righteous pedestal with a megaphone… he is stuck in the mud, dehydrated, one leg caught in a trap, trying to help you avoid the same trap.

Coach is still fully capable of his own Dumb Runner moments. It might happen today!
