While we discuss our initial thoughts on Fluent, we also look at specific examples of it already seen in several core apps available on Windows 10 Insider Fast Ring.
02:27 Tip of the Episode
OneNote Mobile has now got a ton of new features, and one of which is the ability to use multiple windows (shift click on the launch icon in taskbar or Start Menu), and also the ability to manage page versions. This follows up on previous comments about how we want to see Office Mobile get multiple document support. Microsoft May Event had a strong emphasis on Education and all the ways Microsoft was working to improve technology in the classroom by providing schools with inexpensive, secure tools that empower schools, teachers, and students to do more.
Primary Focus was on Windows 10 S And S stands for School edition? Secure edition? Store edition? Something for people to be confused and argue about edition? Try all of the above, because there's definitely some confusion out there about what this thing is, but the one thing to know it's NOT "limited" or "stripped down" or "watered down" in any way. In fact, it's much more like Windows 10 Professional than Home.
Lots of questions about what this is trying to accomplish, so let's talk about what this is really trying to address. K-12 running ChromeBooks and University students flocking to MacBooks, and Microsoft is drawing a line in the sand to say those options are yesterday's news! Now you can get $200-300 systems that are well-featured but locked down for security and performance for the student experience. We discuss:
State of Educational Technology Google and Apple have taken over, and this is MSFT fighting back.
What this OS can do that addresses concerns of tech admins and teacherslocked down to prevent malware and put the emphasis on the education tools.
Limitations. It ALWAYS comes down to apps. The number one goal here is to drive developers and users into the Windows Store for apps and content. Drive them into the store for apps, books, and other resources.
Here's a great in-depth rundown of what we know and don't know by Richard Hay (@WinObs) from the Windows Supersite
Also announced was Microsoft Surface Laptop, which is a flagship quality traditional laptop device that is touch+pen enabled, features high quality materials, and outstanding battery life.
Microsoft Surface Laptop Sizzle Video
And of course, here's the specs comparison with its direct competition, the MacBook series.
Vernon managed to get a very quick and low-quality video thrown together as he gets his hands on the new device.
We also talk about our concerns: No SD/microSD, no USB-C, and of course, price. But we admit that we can see a LOT of potential for this and similar types of devices running Windows 10 S outside of school.

Ep 84 is the one where we speculate, as wildly as humanly possible with no basis in reality, whether or not there's a future for Windows 10 Mobile after being announced that it was being tossed out an airlock into the cold, dark, vastness of space... or something like that. Pandemonium! The Sky Is Falling!
But first, we start off with a public service announce as the tip of the week, discuss some candid feedback about Skype Universal's SMS Relay, and if we can't keep Windows 10 Mobile, maybe we can at least get its keyboard on PC and tablets!
Tip of the Episode If you have just 10 minutes for this podcast, we want you to at least get a piece of information which you can use immediately in your everyday life. Today's tip is: Stay Calm and Don't Be a Jerk.
-- Reminder to be critical of problems but be respectful to the team members you are speaking with about your feedback.
The Mobile Minute We spend a few minutes talking about a wonderful Skype Engineer who contacted me directly about feedback I posted regarding the state of SMS Relay, and the response from the team about that feedback. See the link below for more information in Beyond the Podcast!

Top News What is the future of Windows 10 Mobile? Is it really dead? Well, Aaron has a theory on this…
The long and short of it… It's worse than dead… it's brain is gone! Haha, no but really, let's start with the supposed controversy:
Announcing Windows 10 Build 16176 for PC and 15204 for Mobile
We are also releasing Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 15204 to Insiders in the Fast ring. As we release new builds from our Development Branch for PC, we will also be doing the same for Windows 10 Mobile just like we have been in the past. However, Windows Insiders will likely notice some minor differences. The biggest difference being that the build number and branch won’t match the builds we will be releasing for PC. This is a result of more work we’re doing to converge code into OneCore – the heart of Windows across PC, tablet, phone, IoT, HoloLens, Xbox and more as we continue to develop new improvements for Windows 10 Mobile and our enterprise customers.
From
This statement is in stark contrast to what her predecessor Gabe Aul had to say back in January 2016 with Build 14251…
Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14251
Sharp-eyed Insiders likely noted the big jump in build numbers from our last preview build (11102). Historically, the codebase for mobile had a different OS version than the codebase for PC because they were developed by different teams on different schedules. With Windows 10, we became one Windows team and brought these two codebases together. We started by changing the version string displayed in the UI to be consistent, which is why you saw similarly labeled builds over the past year for both Mobile and PC, but the underlying binary version numbers were still different. As part of our work getting the common codebase ready for the next release, we decided to complete that work and sync the build numbers between mobile and PC. Because the mobile codebase used higher build numbers than PC, we needed to jump ahead a bunch of build numbers to ensure updates to future builds will continue to work. So that’s why build numbers went from 11105, 11106, and 11107 to 14251.From
Clearly Dona is telling us the sky is falling! Mobile is being cast aside and PC and others are moving forward. How can you claim convergence when you're separating the branches? For this, there's some deeper concepts you need to understand about software development process.
Good chance that we're looking at Windows Phone 7.8 Part Deux… old stuff is old, and well, it's time to say goodbye...
But does that mean they're putting phones out to pasture? No, at least, not new phone-capable mobile devices… but let's consider what we've heard since the launch of Anniversary Update in August:
Interview with Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet in October 2016:
MJF: I realize this year was a year when Microsoft planned not to release any new Windows Phones itself. But the question I keep getting is why is Microsoft wasting time updating Windows Mobile when the market share is one percent? You don't have that many phone OEMs. Why not just say, you know, maybe we'll come back some day, but for now, let's just stop playing around with mobile.
MYERSON: Technically, there are really two things that are unique about Windows Mobile. One is cellular connectivity and the other one is the ARM processors that are there. And I think both cellular connectivity and ARM processors have a role in the technical landscape of the future.
So we're going to continue to invest in ARM and cellular. And while I'm not saying what type of device, I think we'll see devices there, Windows devices, that use ARM chips. I think we'll see devices that have cellular connectivity.
When you stop investing in these things, it's super hard, super, super hard to restart. And at Microsoft we have a few of those examples where we stopped. Sometimes, when you're investing into growth, it's easier, but when you're investing for technical strategy or things like that, sometimes people can question it -- like you're doing right now. But especially among your readers, I don't think there's much debate that ARM processors have a role in the future. And cellular connectivity does as well.
From
Interview with Satya Nadella pre-announcing an ultimate mobile device in November 2016…
"We will continue to be in the phone market not as defined by today's market leaders, but by what it is that we can uniquely do in what is the most ultimate mobile device," he said.
"Therefore [with Nokia assets], we stopped doing things that were me-too and started doing things, even if they are today very sub-scale, to be very focused on a specific set of customers who need a specific set of capabilities that are differentiated and that we can do a good job of."
From
Finally, here's the demo of Windows 10 for ARM on a Snapdragon 820/821 exactly like the HP Elite x3 which is stated by the Qualcomm executive VP Cristiano Amon at the 12-minute mark which clearly indicates that the intent is to have phone-style devices powering these high end experiences in the future.
Windows 10 on ARM full demo at WinHEC 2016 Now I'm not sure about anyone else, but there were lots of oohs and ahhs in that demo, and the performance on a Snapdragon 820 was pretty slick, so what do we have to say about the future of Windows 10 on Mobile Phone Devices? Well...

06:38 - All-time Favorite Windows Phone/Mobile device: It's no surprise that a certain Lumia takes the crown here, but turns out there's a special place in Greg's heart for more than just one Lumia and a few non-Nokia phones as well.
09:24 - Why did you want to make a Windows Mobile device? They always say necessity is the mother of all invention, and this is one of those scenarios…
11:25 - What did you learn about the ODM industry? Why do you have to go and make things so complicated?
14:10 - Who is taking this journey with you? It takes a village to build a phone…
16:03 – iSkin – Rishi – VR headset in the works, going with the name Zyphyr
19:40 - Who did you want to make a phone for? The fans. It's always about the fans! But turns out there may be room for more than one group of fans…
26:07 - How is this going to replace multiple computing devices? Continuum is a bridge to a more unified computing paradigm…
27:49 – Greg defends his use of the term “Disruptive” when describing Continuum.
30:13 - Does the Snapdragon 617 have enough power? In a word. Yes! But don't just take our word for it, the proof is in the pudding! Check out Greg's demo of the Moment running Continuum: My Cerulean Moment At Play
31:30 – Wired versus wireless
32:56 - What about the future of the Cerulean product line and your plans for Windows Mobile? What's this?! More than one model is planned and might there be another surprise by way of some VR support?
“We have a slate of five phones that we want to bring to the market.
The CEO phone – The elegant masterpiece, where is does everything well, and looks good, too.
The Allegro – A music and musician phone, which has high-end audio capability for recording and playback. We thought it should have multiple inputs for multiple microphones, and multiple USB ports. It should be able to accept different types of peripherals and external storage.
The Mountain – a rugged phone for the outdoor adventurer type smartphone.
The Moment – Was originally planned to be a camera-centric phone, which would replace the 1020. We have some work yet to do there, but we have to start somewhere.
The Capsule – Compact without compromise (which Greg’s wife desperately wants).
We will be accepting input from the Windows Phone community regarding which phone they should pursue next.”
37:34 – Aaron shares his experiences of how he uses Continuum in both wired and wireless configurations.
40:33 – Vernon makes a case for the Cerulean Moment as a solid device for Windows Mobile enthusiasts.
43:17 – Greg discusses the after-the-purchase support set up for the Cerulean Mobile devices.
47:01 – Full specs of the Moment detailed.
57:23 Why did you need to choose Indigogo to crowdfund this device? This is an expensive endeavor and for it to work, the initial target is the masses that loved the more mass-appeal devices like the 640 and 830 class devices. Next up, if successful now, will be the "CEO" hero phone and the specialty phones.
1:00:15 – We can expect a separate funding campaign in Brazil, which may extend the end date of the current Indiegogo campaign.
1:02:07 - How long must Windows Phone fans wait to get in on this device? Act now-- offer ends May 15th! Visit IndiGoGo to preorder! Seriously, just do it… buy one for a family member who needs a good budget phone and has simple needs, or buy one for yourself an Insider Builds tester, or buy it as a solid replacement for an aging device and help show MSFT how much this platform matters to us. You're a WinPhan, right? Let's keep the dream alive!

Episode 082 gives us a chance to dig into the future of Continuum; especially since the WhartonBrooks Cerulean Moment has been officially announced. Aaron has a great tip for cleaning up duplicate contacts in Skype and Outlook. Vernon paints a picture of how the casual user could use their mobile in three years.
1:45 Tip of the Episode: Aaron shares how to clean up contact duplication after the Skype Preview messes them up.
1) Make sure you turn off SMS Relay for now.
2) Go to Skype app and under Skype Contacts, remove anyone that isn't an actual Skype contact.
3) Next up, go to Outlook.com on the web (app is not sufficient). Empty Deleted Items.
4) Go to People on the web and go to the actual Contacts list ... Perform clean up there. Actually, here's a better tip... this is actually easier on the phone through People app. Enter Select mode and select all the contacts you can find on the web that are duplicate... When you choose the Delete option on phone, it will prompt you for confirmation... UNCHECK the version you want to keep and leave the rest selected... press Delete, and voila-- nice and tidy.
5) Go back on web and empty Deleted Items again (if you look in there, you'll see that when you delete contacts from ANYWHERE now, it leaves them in Deleted Items. Once emptied, you can verify your results on the People portion of Outlook Web.

As the podcast climbs out of the self-induced hiatus with episode 080, we bring back one of the original founders of the show, Kevin Harvell, of the Tech Informist, Everything VR & HR, and the 2GuysTalking Podcast Network. Kevin also led the STL Tech Talk and Who's Who In St. Lou podcasts.
Vernon and Kevin reminisce about the early days of the podcast, which was over two years ago already! We hear about what led Kevin to the place in which he was able to launch the MS Mobile Show, and then dig in to what he has now progressed to.
True to the new format of the podcast, we hear from Kevin on aspects of his life in which few listeners are aware, including raising a family, working in the racially polarized city of St. Louis, his many years in the automotive industry, and the stark contrast to what he is doing now.

You are listening, to the MS Mobile Show!
My name is Vernon E. L. Smith, and I am excited to be recording this!
There's a good chance that if you are hearing my words right now, that you've been a longtime listener of the show, and to you, I want to share my heartfelt gratitude for all the support, kind words, and even some well-deserved criticism that you've been generous enough to send my way.
If this is your first time hearing my voice, I want to welcome you to the community, and I hope this podcast provides you with something that you find helpful and enjoyable!
It has been several months since the last episode. October of 2016 actually, and if I'm honest with myself, I'm pretty disappointed that it has taken me this long to get it fired up again.
This is just a teaser episode, as the ramp-up of the re-boot is in the works.
The new MS Mobile Show will look a little bit different than when it went on hiatus.
There will still be news and commentary regarding Microsoft's Mobile devices and services. But just as Microsoft has shifted their focus over the past two years, so has the podcast.
There will be a bit of a new format, including more guests, more focused insight that is less time-sensitive, and a brand new co-host, who is already highly respected in the Windows Mobile enthusiast community.
If this interests you, be sure to come back to this space as the rollout will be happening very soon.
As a little teaser insight into the next episode, our first guest is one of the original founders of this podcast, and I can't wait to chat with him about how far the show has come, and how his life has drastically changed in the past two years.

Admittedly, we often take a more positive view of Microsoft than perhaps the average consumer may. This episode is an exception. David has had about enough of Microsoft lately, so we asked Adam Doud to join us so that we can properly criticize the company, and especially, Windows 10 Mobile.
True to form, Adam has to remind us how webOS has paved the way for everything that is good about the current reigning mobile platforms. Also, the Cubs game was a good distraction during the show. Overall, it was an incredible episode.

Too often, technology enthusiasts do not fully understand the financial choices made by the companies they value. Recently, Vernon tried to explain the news of Microsoft buying back stock from shareholders, and failed pitifully at it. Listener of the show Blake Latson offered to help explain what some of the financial announcements really meant, and Vernon gladly accepted!
Blake shares with us the Microsoft products and services he uses in his daily life, both professionally and personally. He explains Microsoft's stock buy back program, some of the basics of stock investing, and some great insight into the US corporate tax code.

Skype Rooms Systems, the ridiculous number of Skype apps, changes to OneDrive Selective Sync, and leaked Surface peripheral devices are talked about.
The discussion continues, with the topics features moving towards parity among Office apps on all platforms, the general shift that email communication taking, the specific Outlook variations, including Focused Inbox, Black Theme coming to the preview pane, and broad new UI changes to the Win32 and web versions.
The two finish off the show by venturing into the speculation zone regarding what they think what will happen, and what should happen with the Surface line of products.

Many technology enthusiasts end up playing tech support for their friends and families. Often our loved ones rely on us to make the right choices for us, when it comes to a meaningful purchase of a piece of tech. Vernon and David talk about some new devices for their family members on the horizon.
Also, the two hosts ask for listener feedback, and, (dare we say it?) ask for you to take action!

Have a wonderful week! Stay mobile.
This is one of the very few shows that we've recorded without putting together any host notes. We just share an enjoyable conversation. Miraculously, Surface AIO, Word Flow for iOS, Cerulean Mobile, HP Elite X3, and Microsoft Ignite do manage to work their way into the show. Below are the details. Enjoy!
Vernon reminisces about the Glance and Go podcast episode with Sean Johnson in which he had to re-record an entire episode because he powered off his PC. Hear "Passing The WinPhan Baton" here.
The phrase "Poop in a group" rears its ugly head.
Graphics Interchange Format debate returns. Our polarized opinions of the topic turn to a surprisingly mild, polite, and politically-correct argument.
Somehow we discuss iTunes reviews. Speaking of that, please take a moment to give us a review!
Side note: Choosy moms and choosy dads choose Jif.
Fortunately for you, we did actually talk about an upcoming Microsoft product, and we even have an inside tip on it! (Surface AIO)
Is a smartphone an all-in-one device?
David empties his download folder. Somehow we make a useful (you decide) conversation out of it. Vernon's download folder sulks away in shame.
Wharton Brooks' Cerulean Mobile is still having a meetup, but it has been postponed. If you are interested, be sure to follow and engage with them on Twitter @CeruleanMobile
What specs do Windows Mobile enthusiasts need to be satisfied with their phone?
Vernon forgets which laptop he wants. We both discuss what we need in a laptop, which was obviously not something we prepared for. Anyone have an extra Dell XPS 13 they need to liberate?
Is the HP Elite X3 a good enough device? Should it be reviewed "as-is", or is waiting for the update a fair thing to do?
Elon Musk's automobile line makes a quick cameo.
The Microsoft Ignite Conference is happening, September 25th through the 2
Surface Smiths will be interviewing Windows Insiders at the conference!
Vernon will be attending as a member of the press
We share a pure unadulterated geek moment.
Old cheese product versus old real cheddar. There is no contest.
"Leave the gold. Take the cheese."
David's music pick is Tape 5
Vernon's app pick is Word Flow for iOS
David recommends Clamour again, the new third-party Discord app, which doesn't seem to be in the Store quite yet. Expect it soon!
Stuff they don't want you to know is Vernon's podcast pick.
Tip of the Episode: "Fake it until you make it"

We DARE you to leave a review of the podcast. :-)
Have a wonderful week! Stay mobile.
This week we have a little bit of everything. David has finished his mod and it is now available for your enjoyment! Vernon shares his newly-revealed addiction to old cheese.
Both of us are truly excited about the news that WhartonBrooks has a new Windows 10 Mobile device in the works, going with the brand name of Cerulean Mobile. If you click only one like in these show notes, take a moment to check out their progress by listening to the WhartonBrooks / Cerulean Mobile podcast on Soundcloud. Also, you can search with the term "whartonbrooks" in most podcast apps. Be sure to follow them on Twitter: @ceruleanmobile or @whartonbrooks. Like them on Facebook: Cerulean Mobile & Wharton Brooks, and check out the FAQs for Cerulean Mobile. We are super excited to learn more about this as the journey continues!
Yes, we talked about the newly-announced Apple mobile device. Well, mostly we just told you to go back and listen to episode 45 where Vernon and David debated the merits and downfalls of wired and wireless headphones. Enjoy it here!
Skype Teams has been leaked. We spend lots of time gushing over it and picking it apart. Making fun of the GIF sharing mechanism was the easiest part.
Thanks for listening! If you enjoy the show and don't want to miss an episode, be sure to subscribe using your favorite podcast app.

Chances are that if you regularly listen to this podcast, you are probably running Windows 10 on your main PC. The fact remains though, that many people are still using Windows 7 on their work devices. On this episode, Vernon and David compare the two operating systems, how they use them differently, and their favorite features of each version. Personal app, music, and podcast picks are also shared as usual.
Thanks for listening!

Microsoft employee and friend of the show, Darrell Prichard, joins Vernon and David for another round. Few filters are utilized, which is true to form.
The three talk about recent Groove updates, Groove failures, and legally sharing music through OneDrive.
Butter seems to get mentioned much more often than usual.
The new Skype UWP is available, but only for those willing to jump through a few hoops. Nevertheless, it is well worth it.
The show wouldn't be complete without personal app, music, and podcast picks.
Also, there is one particular app not on Windows Phone/Mobile that we make a point NOT to mention. You're welcome.
We really hope Darrell's manager lets him come back on the show again.
On this episode of the MS Mobile Show, we discuss the fact that as popular as Pokemon Go is, it is unlikely that the hit game will make an appearance on Windows Mobile anytime soon if at all.
We also discuss the reappearance of the Lumia 1520 on AT&T for what we consider to be an outrageous price for a 3 year old phone and much more.

Support We appreciate every one of you who listens to the MS Mobile Show on a regular basis. We love the interactions as well. Without you the listener, the show becomes a pair of guys rambling on.
The show is produced and accessible for you at absolutely no cost to you other than time to listen.
While we love to bring this show to you, we would love to be able to have some more fun and have the ability to be able to buy things like T-shirts, coffee mugs, devices and software to be able to do regular giveaways like other websites and podcasts.
To do this, we would ask if you could spare as little as $1 per month ($12 a year) to help us achieve this in 2016. As many listeners as we have, according to our stats, we could do some serious giveaways if every listener signed up for just $1 per month.

As always, thank you for listening and/or watching!
We are pleased to be joined by Sean "WinPhan" Johnson on this episode of the MS Mobile Show! Both Sean and David V. Kimball have held the "WinPhan" title over the last few years, so it is a treat to have both of them on the same show at the same time.
We also are a little light in the show notes area this week, so we apologize for that. A lot of great discussion about some of the latest Windows Mobile device news along with talking about the fast pace of fast ring builds for both mobile and PC.

Episode 47 is somewhat of a recovery episode which is spent catching up. Both Vernon and David have been very busy the previous week so this episode was recorded later in the week than usual.
Vernon is also returning from his recent illness.
The guys mention Microsoft services literally just a handful of times, but occasional bits of insight are sprinkled in, nonetheless.
The two manage to discuss their preferred manner of alcohol consumption, the propensity for Vernon's wife to be profitable while operating slot machines and how Xbox Achievements were derived from a gambling psychology.
All this along with venturing into the realm of mobile gaming and what does David have to share regarding his most recent piece of tech he has acquired which has branded him a traitor by some.
Enjoy!

Is Microsoft starting to plateau after having such a strong three quarters of 2015?
With the 950 and 950 XL needing multiple bugs squashed with not only the hardware, but the software and the Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 also needing more firmware attention, it seems Microsoft has a busy 1st quarter of 2016 ahead as they fix these devices.

Microsoft Mobile MVP Joel Rushworth joins Vernon and Kevin as he fills in for David. The three dig deep into the latest Windows 10 Mobile technical preview version 10149, and debate whether or not you should install it on your daily driver. Two out of the three are using the brand-spankin' new Lumia 640 XL, and they predict if it will be the next big seller for Windows Phone. Joel shares his expertise while enlightening us with his smart home experiments, describes the smartphone and carrier model in Canada, and shares some great tips on how to use the coveted Microsoft services in The Great White North. Vernon and David are joined by guest Richard Devine of Windows Central. Fresh off of E3, the three discuss the new Xbox features, the increasingly gray area of "mobile" computing, Microsoft's apparent midrange Windows Phone strategy, and how Bing video search gets some major kudos from an unlikely source. They weigh in on last week's and this week's polls. Invariably they stoop to discussing the drama surrounding Taylor Swift vs. Apple Music. To pull things back on track, they share the episodes Twitter Tip, and their personal app, music, and podcast picks.
Last Episode's Poll What type of mobile gaming do you prefer?
This Episode's Poll Are you using the Windows 10 Mobile Technical Preview?
Yes, on my daily driver.
Yes, on a secondary device.
No, I'm waiting for the official release.
No, I do not use Windows Phone/Mobile.
Tip of the Episode Don't have access to your mobile phone? Microsoft services are available on the web. You can access Microsoft office via Office Online, and all of your online documents on OneDrive.com
Guest - Richard Devine Why is Windows Phone doing better in the UK than here in the US?
What kinds of people won't be satisfied with the Lumia 640 XL?
Which direction are we heading with "Mobile Computing"? Larger, powerful, and more stationary, or lighter, efficient, and ultra portable?
News Stephen Elop is leaving Microsoft.
E3.
Microsoft: Xbox One: Windows 10 core soon (vertical scrolling, not horizontal), Xbox 360 backwards compatibility, more Cortana-esque voice commands, elite controller, streaming to Windows 10 PCs
Chat, phone, and video app instead of Skype modern app in Win10?
Apple: iOS 9's features: Marketing sounds oddly like a favorite note-taking service we use regularly.
T-Swift uses Twitter (and Tumblr) to call out Apple for not paying artists during people's three-month music trial. She wins, Apple loses (or does it?)
Google: YouTube Gaming launching soon. Likely a response to Twitch and similar services.
Bing Video search is so much better than Google's, that The Verge actually acknowledged it.

Microsoft has announced the availability date of Windows 10 for "sitdown" machines. Windows 10 Mobile Technical Preview is getting much better, and shows great promise. Office for Mobile impresses. Twitter and Google frustrates. David divulges some amazing results from a Windows Phone Enthusiast Quiz that he created. Vernon expounds his experience using Windows 10 on his daily driver, the Lumia 830, for the past week. Personal apps, music, and podcast picks are shared. Hilarious chat-room banter distracts. Unintended listener bashing occurs. Fun is had by all.

Tip of the Episode Accounts in W10MTP:
Going to "Accounts" in the current pre-release of Windows Mobile takes you to the Work or School, etc. To add in additional email addresses, one needs to go through the Outlook app.
W10MTP on a daily driver UI is different, and slightly disappointing for long-time Windows Phone users, but the potential to be a great relevant user interface is very clearly there. Office, Store, and Music apps show great promise. Outlook and Calendar are less impressive, but will work very well on larger-screened devices.
Using this version on your daily driver is not out of the question, just be ready to spend time in the Feedback app, sharing your thoughts on it.
News Rumors: "Cityman" (940 XL), and "Talkman" (940), possibly using USB type-C, likely required to use Continuum for Mobile. Snap 810, 3GB RAM, 20, and 5 MP cameras. 32 GB storage, microSD support, 5.7", 5.2" 8core vs 6core, 3000 vs 3300 mAh.
Microsoft: The availability date of Windows 10 has been announced. July 29th, machines currently running Windows 7. 8. 8.1 will be able to install Windows 10 for free. The OS version will be preinstalled, similar to how Xbox games can be downloaded before they are officially available for use. OS requirements are simple, but some anomalies were noticed: For two-factor authentication, requires "use of a pin, biometric, or a phone with Wi-Fi or BT."
Google: Google I/O: No mention of Windows or Microsoft
Windows Phone App Hyperlapse
Personal Picks Windows Phone app picks: * David: Swarm * Vernon: "Files", by Microsoft for Windows Phone/Mobile. This is different than the File Explorer that comes preinstalled. Files needs to be selected from the Store.

There just seems to be an awful lot of drama when it comes to things Microsoft is involved in here lately. So this episode is just that, all about that drama.
Now before you fire off some hateful emails or tweets, please hear me out.
First there was the issue with the UK broadcasting company essentially forcing Microsoft to re-brand SkyDrive into OneDrive, but that was not enough. Of course they want Microsoft to change Skype as well. Seriously?
Next, many people are surprised that Microsoft is switching from Windows Phone to Windows Mobile.
And to put the proverbial cherry on top, Snapchat Support on Twitter has Windows Mobile fans all excited that an official app MAY be on the way in the future. I would not hold your breath on that anytime soon, but I could be wrong.
Tip of the Episode Whether you are a Windows Phone user, iOS user, or Android user - BACKUP your content.
If your device breaks, or gets lost, etc. you'll need a cloud solution for your content.
Windows Phone: OneDrive, iOS: iCloud, Android: Google Drive
Backup in general: Contacts, photos, videos
More specifically to Windows Phone: App list and settings, go into each app and look for a "backup to OneDrive" option. Identify each app that can't be backed up, take screenshots or use other methods to back that up. Lots of content, like those from social sites, does not need to be backed up.
Quick and easy way to find locally-stored content: Files app on Windows Phone.

Feedback Last week we had a poll which asked how many hands you tend to use while using your phone. We had some great responses, of which some were quite surprising. A special shout-out to Vernon's brother, Pete, who recently discovered podcasts after years of badgering from his big brother. So far he has been listening to the Dave Ramsey Show, and maybe, just maybe, he will be listening to this episode on his Galaxy S4. He did recommend the app Podcast Addict, which can be found in the Google Play store. If you hear the show through your Android device, let us know which app you prefer!
Another shout-out is in order to Robert Shurbet, also known as The Cheeky Taurus. As some of you know, I have been debating on which phone I would use to replace my wife Anna's Lumia 920 that recently died. Robert was willing to part with a device of his for a very reasonable price, and my wife and I thank him for that. Thanks!

It turns out we don't really know what to call what we just installed on our phones, but that didn't stop us from talking about it. Despite not having a specific Microsoft service to discuss, we still managed to share our personal app, music, and podcast picks, but not before sharing the affection and distain we have for what we have seen so far of Windows 10 Mobile. Lacking sleep and a dedicated producer, we still manage to slip a lame joke or two in amongst our analysis of what Microsoft enthusiasts have been trialing the past few days. Enjoy!
Show Notes Feedback Bryan Hinkle encourages Microsoft Mobile enthusiasts to build on his concept of an app that helps Windows Phone users share with companies that need a Windows Phone app, encouraging them to invest the time in building one.
Darrell Prichard reminds us and the listeners that Microsoft Virtual Academy is a wonderful resource for gaining knowledge and experience with a variety of Microsoft services and software. All for free!
Windows Insider Microsoft releases the latest version of the Windows 10 Mobile technical preview. We discuss the key new apps.
If you are running the technical preview on your mobile device, please take time to share your thoughts through the Windows Feedback app.

Tip of the Episode OneNote OneNote -> Notebooks -> Sections -> Pages
Can change background chrome to resemble a three-ring binder. Especially useful for handwriting because of the lines.
Big difference between OneNote and Word, it that is designed for unfinished work.
Search all the things!
Sync everywhere - Multiple users can edit shared documents at the same time, whether they are online at the time or not. If there are version sync issues, the merging is very easy.
Tip: If you know several users are in the document at the same time, take a moment to ensure that you are on the latest version before editing.
Recent OneNote API helped add in a few new features, including:
Windows Phone
Absolutely great! Not too many features to clutter it up. Very smooth app and integration.
Windows Universal
Very good for touch, but still has plenty of features.
iOS
Free
Good, but is tougher on a small-screen device.
Android
Free. Can't beat free!
PC
Really love the formatting shortcuts.
Mac
Very similar to OneNote for Windows.
Web
Should be the way that you all try it out. Great tool for students. Nearly all of the functionality of the PC (desktop) version. Doesn’t quite have the “solid” feel that we like with the desktop version.

News * Next build of Windows 10 for phones is expected soon for nearly every Lumia still in use today. We recommend to not install it on your daily driver, but if you do, be aware of potential bugs. Also we recommend you do a factory reset after finishing the upgrade install * Market share of Windows Phone is holding steady * Microsoft is renegotiating the search deal with Yahoo. This is a big deal for people using Yahoo search or Bing search because having gone to a presentation on this subject Microsoft in its marketing offers combined Yahoo and Bing searches to sell as advertising. * Outlook app for iOS gets a nice update
App Picks * JJ - Dungeon Hunter 5 * Kevin - Jetpack Joyride
Music Picks * JJ - Third Eye Blind (self titled album)
