Ash is the creator of the Lean Canvas Business Model tool and author of Running Lean and Scaling Lean.
What I saw in Ash is that he was an entrepreneur who had started and built several startups and had reflected on his experience as an entrepreneur and as a parent. This is what you will hear in this episode, through the lenses of his own tools, the Lean Canvas.

After my morning swim, I had a great reflection on the chat that I had last week with Ash Maurya (author of Running Lean and the Lean Canvas) on the FutureProofYou podcast. 🎧

It was all about him becoming a parent 12 years ago and realizing that a lot of us become entrepreneurs at that life-changing moment in our lives!🤯
The reason behind this is we:
✅ get the passion to build something, to live a legacy
✅ want to make our time worth something, knowing that time is our sole real currency
✅ want to spend a lot of that time with our kids right now as we won't get more time to do so
That was really powerful.🔥
I really like this, linking time with parenting and starting our entrepreneurial journey. 🔥

Introduction
Stoicism for me was a lifesaver. I remember that 18 months ago I was drifting in life with no real framework and now I came to realise: no real-life philosophy.
I started to understand that a gratitude journal was good for me, meditation was good for me ...like I was good grabbing at these tools from left right and centre but without an overarching framework.
That’s when found… well, my friend helped me find, this podcast.
My friend was Yann and this podcast is the Practical Stoic Podcast with Simon Drew. I started to listen to it every day and really started to learn about stoicism philosophy and the practical tools it gave. I found it was a great parenting guide too!
18 months later I am interviewed, with my friend Yann by Simon! So this is a really special moment and I would like to share that with you.
If you feel you are drifting in life and in your parenthood, this episode will be your lifesaver, I hope!

David’s own notes:
Here are my prepared answered unedited.
GUEST INTRO (2min) - Can you tell us more about yourself and your family?
I married to my beautiful Justine and have been since 1987. You can do the maths on that. Together we have 3 beautiful daughters. Aged 25,22 and 18
So putting others first kind of runs in the family.
WHY (3 min) - Why is the balance/integration between work and fatherhood so important to you?
Well apart from being a husband, my next most important job is as a father. At TFP we like to encourage dads to say they are fathers first and then everything else.
It doesn’t mean it will all work out perfectly but the outcomes for the kids long term will be much better because we as men stay focus on the fact that we are fathers first.
IDEAL (3 min) - What is your ideal balance/integration?
It is how we view time
It can be a great advantage and a great barrier to fathering.
SECRET WEAPON (15 min) - What are the challenges you overcame and what is your secret weapon? Tool, strategy, framework, philosophy, book,…
THERE WILL ALWAYS BE LOTS OF CHALLENGES TO PARENTING.
This gives kids hope. Hope that they will have a future.
Step 5 Once you have got all that together take the, on a one on one dad and kid date or outing and then tell them
Kids need to know that they aren’t just a distraction in their parents busy lives.
They need to not only know they are special but how they are special and how that specialness fits into this crazy world.
The second strategy we used was:
+ **Consistent messaging to your kids** about their worth and giving them a hope for the future
So in short that’s been our secret weapon.
HELP (3 min, Optional) - What do you currently help with?
Secondly

This is a very special episode, very close to my heart. Asato Phillip Tanaka is the dad I aspire to be.
Both Saya (my daughter) and Kanga (Asato's son) suffer from Cerebral Palsy, brain damage that had an impact on cognitive and motricity functions.
I actually didn’t want to share this episode too early as I want to resonate with as many dads as possible. I did share in episode #1 that my daughter dying at birth and coming back was one of my key triggers for prioritising my kids in my work-life balance. Asato shares a similar feeling: after Kanga’s diagnosis, everything else (work, career, relationship..) went on the back burner and Kanga became priority #1.
If for us it’s what it took to drastically work on our balance between work and fatherhood, that is not the message we want to share. What I am trying to do in this interview is to show other working dads that whatever happens in life, we can take it, juggle it (work, kids, wife, therapy…) and we can still prioritise our kids. However, Asato is not a superman, he simply breaks long after I do!
So with this interview, I am simply trying to inspire all dads that it is never too late to prioritise your kids. We talk about resilience, lack of sleep and more in this episode. Asato has started a Youtube channel on the art of making Japanese jewellery both in English and Japanese, check out the link below.

Today I am chatting with Liam Daley a contractor in an innovation organisation. He is the father of 2 girls: Carla (11) and Emily (9) and has been married for 10 years to Naomi!
You are in for a treat as Liam and I discuss the importance of having a balance between work and fatherhood in order to create a relationship with our kids since bonds start at an early age.
Liam shares how he keeps experimenting different tools. One of his top approaches is to model the behaviour he wants to develop in his girls. Check out how he does Daddy dates, a one-on-one experience to discover each other individuality. We touch on so many other secret weapons like make space for our kids (like transforming nightmarish mornings into enjoyable time for everyone), the importance of reading bedtime stories, releasing our kids’ expectation and seeking feedback from our kids.

Today I am introducing you to Alex Holloway, former real estate agent who is now an early years teacher from England. He is the father of 3 boys: Koe (10), Dan (6) and Ken (3) and we share something in common, we both share our life with a Japanese wife! Tomoko, his wife, knows my wife Sachiko, that’s how we ended up talking today in fact.
Alex is passionate about the development of young kids and self-development in general. We touch on a lot of these subjects, including the need to reach bottom in order to implement change, the need to model worklife balance to our kids, habits, constantly recalibrating what we do, taking regular dates with ourselves, yoga and chronotypes! Alex shares a lot of his reading too, so check out the links below.

This is the trailer for the Working Dads: Future Proof You! Podcast.
This podcast is for working parents and more specifically working dads who are consciously trying to balance work with being a dad.
My Name is Dr Julien Marchand. I am:
What I am passionate about is to have an impact on people, the way I do it best is to design and deliver practical and actionable courses. I have decided to align my professional life with my personal life: Having an impact on working dads and designing practical courses to help them reach that balance.
Why am I starting this podcast?
It took me 10 years to realise that balancing both identities of being a professional and being a dad is at first a conscious decision that then requires a lot of purposeful actions (learning, sharing, implementing...).
I thought it would just happen. Then I thought I was the only one struggling to manage both and feeling overwhelmed.
I interviewed 15 dads and learnt a lot, especially that working dads have no time. So my first course is about saving time at work to be more present at home.
Now I want to share the stories as I believe in the power of story telling.
I want to share stories so working dads realise they are not alone and they can implement practical secret weapons to see if they work in their own journey.
I ran for 3 years a podcast on students who were entrepreneurs, reached 70 interviews, 20,000 downloads, I believe in the power of storytelling.
I will learn how to drive my interviews in time, feel free to DM me with advice, and ideas of a host, for now, make sure you subscribe to get the next episode and share it with your community if you find it useful.
