Todays Episode
American forces were instrumental in the lives of many Afghans for over 20 years. Many of them never knew life without Americans in in their country.
It’s been a year since the withdrawal and on this Veterans Day we hear the story of Asma Paigeer who overcome immense fear and uncertainty and put the lives of others ahead of one’s own.
Asma Paigeer showed incredible courage as she worked with US Forces to escape the Taliban following the fall of Afghanistan. She not only helped herself but saved the lives of 147 young women and refused to leave without rescuing the 3 that were kidnapped by the Taliban.
Her Father worked with US forces for 15 years and they were a visible family in Afghanistan. When the government was succeeded by the Taliban their home was marked and her family including herself were targeted.
Now that she has escaped to the US she is a student at VA Tech and is making it her personal life mission to learn, succeed and work to improve her country.
Her message is simple. “ If I don’t Succeed, then they Win”

“Never let the future disturb you. You will meet it, if you have to” ― Marcus Aurelius
I have learned to set aside time to worry instead of allowing it to rule my thoughts.
This has been a tremendous tool that helps keep me out of my own way.
Here’s a quick summary of the technique:
Every week I set time on the calendar to worry.
I don’t tell myself to stop or criticize myself for worrying in the moment. I simply recognize it, name it and schedule time on the calendar to do it.
I have found that almost 100 % of the time if I haven’t completely forgotten about it until I read the list whatever I planned on worrying about has either:
Taken care of itself without my involvement
Been solved by action
No longer feels like a good investment of time to worry about.
This practice has been a great reminder that of two things:
If there is something I can do about it then I don’t need to worry. - I can Take Action
If there is nothing, I can do about it then I don’t need to worry. - Its none of my Business.

“All I want to know is where I’m going to die, so I’ll never go there.” Charlie Munger
Charlie Munger is Warrant Buffets' business partner and is famous for sharing his message on using Inverted Thinking to make decisions. He has used this thought process to guide the success of Berkshire Hathaway to its multi Billion Dollar status.
The process of Inversion Thinking involves approaching problems from the opposite direction.
It is usually easier and a smaller list to identify what we don’t want in our future (relationships, careers, health, etc) and work in the opposite.
By addressing problems backward we are able to uncover the hidden beliefs we operate on by muscle memory that are causing tunnel vision and only see what we want to see.
Sometimes it's not about knowing what to do but knowing what not to do that helps us be successful.

The Belief System is Like a Book of Law that Rules Our Minds – Don Miguel Ruiz
In his book, The Four Agreements Don Miguel Ruiz starts off by describing to us how we form beliefs.
He refers to the world we live in as a shadow world or a fog of life that the ancient Toltecs refer to as Mitote. Often referred to in yoga as Maya meaning Illusion
The formation of beliefs is what he calls the Domestication of Humans. From a young age, we didn’t have the opportunity to choose our own beliefs
Once we begin to question our thoughts and the origin of our beliefs, we are able to free ourselves from the fog
We begin to live as our Authentic selves and leave the Dream that was layered on by the world around
We can develop a new belief system that gives us the freedom to measure up to who we want to be rather than that of the Mitote and Don Miguel Ruiz offers us Four Agreements as a path to Personal Freedom.
Check out today's Episode for a summary of Agreement #1: Be Impeccable with Your Word.

“Never be a prisoner of your past. Become the architect of your future. You will never be the same.”
― Robin Sharma
We don’t regret or shut the door on the past. Focusing our attention on emotions like Regret is our brain’s way of tricking us into believing that we are doing something to solve the problem
Where focus goes energy flows so if regret is playing a tape of past events over and over again in our minds then we are programming our Reticular Activating System (RAS) to be on alert for more opportunities to practice the same past behavior in the present day.
If we are reliving past events in the present day but imagining that we are doing something different with the hope that this will somehow prevent us from repeating it then we are delusional and living with resentment
Hope is not a strategy and resentment is a Mindset Killer.
It’s responsible for the death of more dreams, joy, relationships, careers, and happiness than any other emotion.
What we need is a plan to embrace our past as a teacher or “Architect” for our feature.
Taking a regular inventory of our emotions such as fear, regret and resentment is the path to Wholeness

Work harder on yourself than you do on your job – Jim Rohn
A few years ago, when the pain of staying the same finally became bigger than the fear of change I began working on a vigorous plan of action.
Those actions have helped me build a new relationship with fear, get out of my own way, change my attitude and outlook on life, unlearn old limiting beliefs, and improve my physical and mental health dramatically.
In more ways than one, I became an entirely different person.
Among other things I suffered from the delusion that if I just excel professionally and look good on the outside then it didn’t matter how I felt on the inside.
I, unfortunately, was failing at both and had a death grip on the false idea that validation externally would fix all my problems and make me happy.
I had no concept of what it would be like to be joyous, fulfilled, and happy with my everyday experience.
Living a life of daily actions toward improving myself from the inside out by growing personally, mentally, physically, and spiritually changed everything.
As Jim Rohn suggests I began to work harder on myself than I did on my job. In fact, I made working on myself my job. It became and still is my priority.
Once I began to do the work on myself to unlearn and un-layer myself with all of the old limiting beliefs, fears, and habits that had been weighing me down and preventing me from being my true Self
As I focused my attention on growing personally, I began to grow professionally. It took work but it almost began to feel effortless. I began to do all of the things that I once thought I could never do or that would never work out.
Thought for the Week:
One of the very first places I started was developing a Morning Routine. My routine has evolved over time but the starting point was committing to waking up at the same time every day.
I am a 4:30 am riser but that isn’t necessary. What’s most important is that you give yourself the opportunity to keep a promise to yourself.
Taking the advice of Kristen Holmes of Whoop, I now wake up without an alarm but that is absolutely how I started.
Pick a time, set the alarm, and wake up.
If you’re living what feels like the shotgun approach every morning then the rest of the day will feel just as chaotic.
It’s simple but not easy… I’d love to hear if it makes a difference.

Believe and You Shall Receive – Napoléon Hill Napoleon Hill introduces the Principle of Applied Faith described as a major differentiator between successfully achieving a goal and falling short.
According to Merriam, Webster Faith is defined as “to believe that (someone or something) deserves to be trusted”
Simply put, this is the principle of Trusting the Process. What we believe is possible for us to attain or achieve is often what we take action towards and ultimately accomplish.
If we are taking the daily actions of a successful person then each day, we are becoming a more successful person.
If we are taking the actions that accumulate to successfully achieve a goal then it is reasonable for us to proceed with the Belief that we will successfully achieve our goal.
Sounds Simple right?
It’s Simple…. but not easy…. The tricky part is that Fear often prevents us from taking the first steps We are afraid that even though we take all the right actions and are on the path to success it won’t work for us.
Deep within our psyche lives old behaviors and limiting beliefs that have been programmed in us from a young age usually based on Fear.
They may represent themselves and self-criticism or an undercurrent of belief that we are somehow undeserving or need to be different before good things will happen for us the way they do for others.
The gnawing thought that somehow even though everyone else is able to be successful in taking the same actions but we will not or even worse… We WILL become successful and then not know what to do to maintain it…. not be enough to keep it.
How many times does an internal conversation centered around fear, self-doubt, and a belief that “it won’t work for me” cause you to procrastinate in taking the first step towards achieving a goal?
How many times were you planning to do something entrepreneurial, find a strategic partnership to grow your business, start working out and eating healthier, pitching a new idea at work, or pitch yourself for a promotion but instead used every means of self-justification and self-sabotage you convince yourself to not take the action?
Thankfully there is a solution. I have been on both sides of this coin and am living proof that we can change our brains. Neuroplasticity allows us to interrupt our old patterns, replace those behaviors with new ones, build new Neurol Loops and retrain our brain.
Practice for the Week
Here is one simple practice to incorporate into a morning routine that shifts what we believe is possible.
- look yourself in the eyes in the mirror every morning and say that “I love and approve of myself”.
Yes, it feels embarrassing and a bit ridiculous at first because if you are like me then you’ve never heard those words about yourself before. The more our brains hear those words, the more synapsis we build in that direction then the more we shift our core beliefs on what is possible for us.
On the other side of that discomfort of saying this phrase is the confidence that we are deserving and approved of.
𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 - The energy required to cause a chemical reaction and why getting started is the hardest part of changing. As it relates to Force, Newton, helped us understand that a body at rest stays at rest unless acted upon by an outside force. That force is the Activation Energy required to get it in motion. When a body is in motion, Activation Energy is the force required to change its path. When it comes to unblocking our minds or changing our habits. ⭐️When the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change. We change. That pain is the Activation Energy required for us to change our path. ⭐️When our Activation Energy is greater than our Energy of Resistants. We change. When we feel like some external force is acting upon us and pushing us in a different direction. That may just be something doing for us that we could not do for ourselves. That may just be the Activation Energy we needed to change our path. Question for the Week Instead of creating resistance or friction to slow down the rate of change, how can we create momentum?
Today’s episode is with Amy Gilliland, The President of GDIT. Her message is simple …we can do Great things and we are all more resilient than we may even know.
She was raised by a single mother who was in civilian service to the US Army along with her Great Grandfather who served in the Navy. Amy reflects on the impact they both had on her from a young age to be shown an example of working hard, of service to others and the power of gratitude.
After graduating from the Naval Academy Amy spent time on the Deck of a Guided Missel Destroyer ship The USS Laboon where she was taught how to preform in the face of uncertainty and how to lead others effectively when emotions are high.
She was able to Travel the World to more than 40 countries experiencing diplomacy both by ship and as a Congressional Liaison for the House of Representatives. She’s gained The Power Of perspective which is a complexion of all of those experiences that influence how she wants to lead.
As a fellow Early Bird, she and I discuss our similar approaches to being deliberate about gaining clarity of purpose with a morning routine that includes exercise and a Gratitude practice. She includes her kids to share in that experience to set the example of healthy practices to be the best version of our selves. She shares that we’re more than the position we hold and embraces the fact that our home life is a major part of who we are in our professional life.

“If you are irritated by every rub, how will your mirror be polished?”
― Rumi
Every time I read this; I get a little something more out of it.
The first time I read it, what resonated with me was the idea that it is the “rubs” or those things which we may view at the time as pitfalls, adversity, or mistakes that are actually bringing the best in us.
As we become more and more resilient and recover quickly from the inconvenience of a “rub” we are able to continuously seek those actions that are “Rubs” because they are the very experiences that allow us to be polished.
I want my mirror polished; I want it to shine. It may never be perfect but I am continuously striving for it to be the best version of a mirror that I can have.
Today another thought came to me when I read it…. Why did Rumi choose a mirror?
Is it because is reflects us? As we clear away the dirt, we see who we truly are?
Is the dirt all of my limiting beliefs that block me off and private a layer of “dirt” over the real me?

The reticular activating system is the brains filter and gives us some science-based evidence why visualization meditation work. If you are rolling your eyes at the phrase visualization mediation that this is for you. Listen Today!
The Reticular Activating System (RAS) is a bundle of nerves at our brainstem that filters out unnecessary information so the important things get through. It consists of a network of neurons in the central portion or core of the brainstem from the medulla through the pons and midbrain and into the diencephalon
We can’t possibly take in the full amount of stimulus from all 5 of our senses and our subconscious thoughts all at one time. Our brains caches data and creates muscle memory to focus even when we aren’t always aware.
This explains why we can drive a car without thinking about it after some experience. If we hear about a book or learn a new word we suddenly start hearing and seeing it everywhere…It was always there; our RAS just didn’t filter it in.
It’s why we can tune out a crowd full of talking people in a room, yet immediately snap to attention when someone says your name or something that sounds like it… RAS
Visualization Meditation allows us to program the filter of our RAS. Our Brains can’t tell the difference between a real or imagined memory. If you’ve suffered resentment or procrastination than you can relate. Both are living the perceived wreckage of the future or the past over and over but in present day. We feel it as if it were happening today.
Listen in to todays Monday Mindset to hear a visualizing method to help program our RAS that takes all of 30 second. Repetition > Duration.
What do I want my future self to sound like, look like, feel like…
Imaging yourself in that movie screen of our awareness - what am I wearing, hearing, seeing… what emotions do I feel…who else it there… Play the stories out …
What actions can I take today that is in alignment with the person I want my future self to be?

What we Resist, Persist – Carl Jung
When we resist change, we are clinging to old ideas and limiting beliefs. Where focus goes energy flows. Focusing on the problem makes the problem bigger. Focusing on the Solution makes the Solution bigger.
Resistance can be procrastinating and listening to the voices in our heads telling us we’re some version of not enough; you’re not good enough, smart enough, young enough, old enough, there’s not enough time, even if you achieve it …you’re not enough to keep it.
This negative self-talk that feeds our self-doubt is created by our limiting beliefs, fears, and our selfish opinion of how something or someone “should” be.
Have you ever started “Shoulding” all over yourself?
If we focus on our fears, then they get bigger in our heads. We may even rehearse different scenarios in our mind where things go poorly. It feels like watching a movie in the screen of our awareness where we are the lead character and it somehow turns into a horror film.
We are effectively doing a visualization meditation on the fear and negativity that we are hoping to avoid but instead we are sending more energy and bringing more awareness to it. The Brains filter The Reticular Activating system kicks on in high alert to bring us more of what we focus on the most and unfortunately, it’s the very thing we hoping to avoid.
It’s like procrastinating on something we know we should do. Procrastinating feels like pushing it out of our minds temporarily (Resisting) but somehow when we do it ends up being all we think about all day. (Persisting)
The Secret of Change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old but building the new. – Socrates
What have you been resisting?
How can you make space for that feeling or change?
Where can we refocus our energy to building the new…the Solution rather than the problem?

He reminds us not to rob ourselves of a wealth of knowledge that may exist outside of our own perception. “Surround yourself with people who look, think, and feel differently from you”

“𝐍𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐄 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫, 𝐖𝐈𝐑𝐄 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫.”- Donald Hebb.
The Consistent and deliberate practice of Gratitude Practice is powerful enough to change the neurological make up of our Brain.
WHY? - Hebbian Learning shows the discovery of Mirror neurons that give neuroscientific evidence Of Vicarious Activations; the neural substrates of our own actions are vicariously activated while witnessing the actions of others through vision or sound.
If we surround ourselves with People, Places and Things that cause us to experience Gratitude we will be neurologically shifted into more Gratitude. Likewise, if everything we see, hear, and experience is fear based and negative we will be neurologically shifted towards Resentment
HOW? How then do we increase the frequency of these Vicarious activations in the Brain? By purposely building a consistent Gratitude practice. Hebbs research says that in order for one neuron to begin affecting the efficiency of another in a certain direction it needs to repeatedly (consistency) take part in firing (deliberate action or causality) the other.
simply put to the more gratitude we deliberately practice then the more we will begin to naturally experience Gratitude when not being deliberate.
WHAT? - I have come to view Gratitude as a VERB and not a Noun. It must be Acted upon consistently towards the people, places and things for which we are grateful. This reinforces Gratitude and increases the capacity to identify things in my life large and small that I am grateful for.
Consistently starting my day with a Gratitude list without any minimum or maximum of items allows for a Jump Start to the Reticular Activating System (our Brains filter) to be on the lookout for more opportunities, people, places and things for which I can practice gratitude.
As experience these People, Places and Things I am purposely ingesting through sight and hearing (what we watch and What we listen to) things that generate a feeling of gratitude that cause these Neurons to Fire Together and Wire together creating more opportunities for Vicarious Activation.

Diet is way more than the food we put in our mouth.
We’ve all heard that we are what we eat but the idea of Nourishment includes more than just food that we put into our body.
I recently went on a 72 hour fast and have since been incorporating a 36 hour fast each week. One of the many benefits of fasting is that it eliminates Toxins from the body. In his book The Seven Day Mental Diet author Emmet Fox provides a method for going on a Mental Fast and eliminating the Toxins & negative thoughts from our Minds.
We’re not just what we eat. We are a product of everything we consume in every way that we consume it. We are a result of the people we surround ourselves with, everything we watch, everything we listen to, the ideas we are exposed to and believe, the examples we follow, and the environment we spend the most time in. Everything that affects our Human senses is a part of our Diet.
Is it reasonable to eat junk food nonstop and refuse to exercise and expect a healthy body?
Is it reasonable to allow junk thoughts into our minds nonstop and refuse to work on ourselves and expect a healthy Mind?
We take care of what we eat and don’t consume food in excess all day long, choosing healthy nourishing foods to intake, and perform regular physical exercise in a variety of forms to maintain a useful, healthy and strong body.
Likewise, to maintain a resilient, positive, healthy Mindset we must make healthy choices in the diet of what we think, view, hear, and the company we keep.
As with the requirement for the consistent practice of physical exercise, maintaining a healthy mindset also requires a consistent practice of mental exercises. These exercises come in the form of things such as Gratitude Lists, I Am statements, self-reflection, affirmations, meditation, identify limiting beliefs and reframing them into positive action-based statements.
I Am statements to for the week:
Today I am taking actions to maintain a healthy mindset.
Today I am Standing Guard at the Gates of My Mind.
Today I am fasting from Negative thoughts.

𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐃 𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐖𝐄𝐑𝐒 𝐃𝐀𝐈𝐋𝐘 – 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞
I was first introduced to cold immersion by Wim Hof a few years ago and now one of my favorite hobbies it to study the work of Dr. Andrew Huberman of Stanford. His research includes documents the myriad of benefits of cold-water immersion:
I am 100% seeking the psychological change. I am training for psychological resilience on a daily basis with deliberate periods of physiological discomfort. Through repetition we can develop a Habit and build more neurological feedback loops in the direction of taking action in the face of stress, strain and discomfort.
By utilizing the powerful connection between psychology and physiology we can change our narrative and remove our self-imposed limitations.
Multiple mornings have gone by where I say “ugh …I don’t want to do this”. I even begin developing justifications and excuses …” This is Excessive”, “Who do I think I am?”,” I’ve done it long enough”. I almost quit. As soon as I hear that voice and feel that physical feeling in my Vagus Nerve…I take IMMEDIATE Action in the opposite direction. I do it any way… I step and WIN that small mental battle.
This is me keeping a promise to myself. My SELF heard me commit to cold showers and each time I live up to that promise, I solidify the belief that I am a person who does what they say they will do. 𝐀𝐬 𝐃𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐥 𝐑𝐮𝐢𝐳 𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐈 – 𝐁𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐜𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝.
At some point throughout the day and life there will come times that I have to endure discomfort and each day I prove to my SELF that I am capable.
The water is also never as cold as I think it will be the second before step in. The narrative in my mind is worse than reality. The meditation I use while in the cold helps me focus on:
Where else in my life is my narrative worse than reality?
Where am I suffering my imagination in advance?
Where do I procrastinate? …maybe the water isn’t that cold.

“𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐀𝐧𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲” – 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐈𝐈, Don Miguel Ruiz
In his book The Four Agreements (A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom), author Don Miguel Ruiz suggest that we must make an agreement with ourselves to not take anything personally.
When we think of taking things personally, we often think of receiving criticism from another person or some external event the we feel is happening to us specifically because of us. We tell ourselves some version of the story that “if I were different or if I were someone different than they wouldn’t say that or this wouldn’t be happening”. In that moment we are acting on an overdeveloped sense of Personal Importance. Taking the words or actions of others as personal to us is actually an extreme expression of selfishness.
We are making it about all about ourselves when it may have nothing to do with us at all. We may hear feedback from another person as judgment or as criticism because we each process what we hear through our awareness of our flaws, weaknesses, and insecurities. We are not affected emotionally by what is actually said, but rather by our interpretation which is formed by our beliefs.
Taking things personally is a direct result of the stories we tell ourselves and what we ultimately believe about ourselves. We believe a story about ourselves and their words touch an emotional wound that causes pain. We create a narrative of what the person meant with their words rather than what they actually said.
Notice how many words refer to SELF in this description? Are we being selfish and taking things personally?
What story do we have a habit of reliving when we take things personally?
What are the cues that cause me the or remember this story?
What is my usually reaction to this story?
How can I respond instead?

Dr. Marina Theodotou, EdD is an incredible example of the fact that how we start does not have to determine how we finish. She reminds us in this episode that “we don’t determine the cards we’re dealt but we do have a choice in how we play them “
At a young age she was exposed to having to flee her home country of Cyprus and grow up in a foreign country in Northern Africa. Even in her description of that event she is careful to say that just because they lost every material possession, she did not lose everything because she had her family. That experience and hardship along with the example of her parents and older siblings is what forged a mindset resilience and gumption
Her mindset of gumption allowed her the opportunity to have former Bank of America CEO Hugh McColl as a mentor, pursue a Ph.D. in an entirely different field from her former experience, and make a mid-career shift where she has the opportunity to impacts the lives of thousands of people each day.
Losing a job is actually the catalyst and provided her with the freedom of newness that was the catalyst that led her to the next chapter that is even more gratifying than the one before.

If we have decided we want to change and we agree that our Habits are what make us who we are then we are ready to take actions. We agree that nothing changes if nothing changes or in others words in order for our life to become different, WE have to become different; take different actions. We are accountable to future self and the current results in our life is a result of our current habits.
Developing the habits required to successfully achieve goals takes rendering down the endpoint to the smallest possible action that is required to begin …and doing it. The author Leo Babauta reminds us that “Actually, doing the habit is much more important than how much you do.”
It’s not about quantity of each event is about repetition. Small actions create massive results when done consistently because of the concept of momentum. Momentum builds with every action we take no matter how small it is as long as it is constant an in the same direction.
If we can boil down the starting point to an actions item so small, we almost feel ridiculous not taking it we remove all obstacles and options for procrastination.
Developing new habits requires forming new neurological loops in our brains. This means Identifying our CUES- whatever would cause us to take the negative habit. Interrupting that pattern by identifying the former actions without criticizing ourselves for having it. Replacing the action with the new habit and rewarding the new behavior. Celebrating the victory and rewarding the new behavior is crucial. Each time we celebrate it activates the dopamine sensor in the brain to anchor and reinforce those new actions with that cue which creates a desire for the new routine which brings that reward thus forming the HABIT.
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
— Will Durant’s translation of Aristotle
We are what we repeatedly do and we believe what we repeatedly think. “I AM” are the two most powerful words we can say to ourselves because whatever we follow that with is how we identify ourselves and expresses what we believe about ourselves. The language we use carries power. Whatever we repeatedly say will slowly become a Habit of thought and that habit will solidify a core belief within us. It’s those core beliefs that will then dictate our actions and those actions become what we repeatedly do. Our lives will be a summation of the actions we take habitually.
If I’m constantly telling myself a story that is some version of: “I AM” too much of this or “I AM” not enough of that, then I am reinforcing ideas that will eventually determine the daily actions I take.

Up to 40% of our daily lives are repeated with behaviors and activities that are in near-exact as the day before. Day after day we think the same thoughts, drive on the same roads, eat the same set of foods and do the same tasks. We slip into a what feels like a robotic trance of thoughtless habit.
Those daily actions, Repetition, routine, ritual and consistency known as our habits dictate who we are and what we become. Living a life of success and happiness is not an accident, it’s a habit. Our habits of action will dictate what we become which will then reinforce the language and beliefs we have and around we go. Our quality of life, feelings of success and our sense of wellbeing become a self-fulfilling prophesy.
In order to change what we think of ourselves and what our future self becomes, were going to have to Act our way in to a better way of thinking because we simply think up better actions. To change our thoughts, we start with our actions.
The most important aspect of habit formation is getting started. Every small act can make an enormous difference in our life so Start by doing Just one thing! Even if we don’t feel like it, do it anyway. The actions lead and the belief will follow.
Jeff “Montis Man” Harris is a living example that We Can Do Hard Things !
On Dec 25, 2018 he was diagnosed with Achalasia and did not eat solid food until Dec 25, 2019. He endured 365 days of living on protein shakes multiple surgeries, needing to sleep upright in a chair all while serving as a CEO and continuing to compete in Endurance Races.
When it comes to self-discipline and a Hunger for Greatness, He’s learned a few things because e’s had to do a few things. He set out to be an example of how to shift our victim mindset to a warrior mindset.
“Our Attitude it the most important decision we make every day” – Jeff Harris.

Our words not only have wisdom but they can work wonders. Sharing a kind or encouraging message to another human being can change the course of their actions and what they believe about themselves.
Helping others fills our cup more than any accolade or material possession. Walking a path with another person and using our experience to pay forward is one of the many gifts granted by #mentorship. This symbiotic relationship is a conduit for 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 . Sharing our experiences with another person clarifies our message and hold us accountable to our own advice.
A truly #gratifying experience happens when we share a part of ourselves with another human being. When we lean in to #vulnerability and share honestly about the challenges, thoughts and the lessons we’ve learned from our experiences. We give the other person and opportunity to find a connection they may have never thought they'd have. Even though the circumstance may differ, the way we felt during that moment is the same and they relate to us in a deeper way. This opens the door for many more meaningful conversations in the future.
No one person accomplishes great things on their own. They have a team of people guiding and encouraging them along the way. Who we surround ourselves with and the attitudes, outlooks and language they use eventually become our own They become our examples of what we believe is possible. Those beliefs are reinforced our words and actions.
#mentors allow us to go places within ourselves that we may not go by ourselves because they can see things in us that we may not see in ourselves.

WE HAVE THE CHOICE. We don’t have to allow our external circumstances to govern our thoughts, emotions, and actions. When we are doing this, we are living our lives in a reactive state and our mental and spiritual condition are at the mercy of the natural unpredictable realities of life.
It’s not all about us - we cannot live our lives based on our personal preference on how things “should” be or thinking that we have complete control over external people, places and things. If we allow external circumstances to have sole control over our internal state of happiness and wellbeing then we are actively choosing a life of resentment, fear and disappointment and actively refusing a life of gratitude, serenity, and fulfillment.
Living life on life’s terms means being mindfully fit and continuing to increase our awareness of our natural reactions to life and how they affect our thoughts and actions. Putting this principle into practice takes time and effort.
The first step to no longer living a reactive life is acceptance. If we are disturbed, it is because I find some fact of life in some way unacceptable to our personal preference. I can find no serenity until I accept that person, place, thing or situation as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment.
We must actively work on raising our awareness of our natural reactions to life where these natural reactions or emotions originated and how they affect our actions allows us to 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐯𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐭.

Just as fire strengthens steel adversity makes us stronger. The Key to becoming mentally, physically and spiritually resilient is not pain avoidance its acceptance and action. We have to ability to rob misfortune and hardship of its ability to cause suffering when we accept every difficulty as an opportunity to grow.
Our adversities are our individual calls to action and the education earned in overcoming them solidify our ability to withstand future hardship. We no longer manage our life with the single intent of avoiding discomfort.
As Seneca says - I judge you fortunate because you have never lived through misfortune. You have passed though life without an opponent – no one can ever no what you are capable of, not even you.

“We suffer more from imagination than from reality.” — Seneca
How many of us spend time living in the wreckage of the future?
The discomfort and uncertainty of future events can allow our imaginations to run wild and we begin to suffer in advance. Fear and uncertainty can broadcast an internal a story line across the screen of our imagination and we find ourselves living in the wreckage of the future based on the imperfections of our past.
Its important to remember that if we have one foot in tomorrow and one foot in yesterday then we are * ing all over today.
Moments of growth and are often characterized by and stepping outside of our comfort zone. Many of us associate a feeling of comfort with the known outcomes and results that that we can control. Future outcomes are among the many things that we don’t have control over especially when we are doing something new and are growing outside our comfort zone. All we really have control over at any point in time is the actions we take and the attitude we have while taking them.
Rather than regretting the future that hasn’t yet occurred, what we can do today is take the small incremental actions that are within our power to help us achieve the future we’d like to create. Being present means focusing on the required work of today.
Trust the Process
Focusing on our daily habits and celebrate the small victories we make along the way of getting to our end goal. Reinforcing the small victories and keeping small promises to ourselves to take the required actions keep us free from being distracted by fear and uncertainty.

𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗯! – 𝗜𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Gratitude is one of the most powerful resources we have at our disposal. It has the ability to unlock the fullness of life and as author Melody Beattie puts it -turn what we have into enough, our denials into acceptance, chaos to order, and confusion to clarity.
We also have an opportunity to use the power of gratitude to list how we can be of service to the lives of our fellows. As Adam Grant says “𝙙𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙗𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨. 𝘾𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙗𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙩𝙤𝙤”
A grateful person is often more optimistic, energetic, enthusiastic, determined, interested, and joyful than a person stuck in resentment, fear, and views the world though a lens of scarcity.
Expressing regular gratitude has been attributed to feeling stronger when faced with challenges, feeling less envious, and experiencing less stress.
Rather than simply making a list of things we enjoy about our life. It also includes the mundane, the hardships that have allowed us to grow, as well as our contributions to other.
Gratitude as an action means it’s a verb and works best when it is embodied or acted upon, spoken aloud and is incredibly fulfilling when it connects us to someone else.

Whether we are conscious of it or not our Well Being and future-selves are a function of our current daily habits, beliefs and self-talk.
What we think is eventually what we become because our self-talk shape our beliefs which are expressed by our actions. These repetitive actions become our habits and shape our future-selves.
Who we are today is a result of our current language, mindset and habits. Whether it’s positive or negative our current habits and rhetoric are a result of small repetitive actions done consistently over time.
If we have decided that where we are is not where we want to be and that we want to improve our future-selves than we must interrupt our language patterns and repetitive actions and replace them with new ones.
If we are to improve our well, being it will have to be done one small step at a time and the result if done constantly over time will be Massive. It may take working backwards in the beginning and action our way into a better way of thinking rather than thinking our way into new actions.

Trust the Process |Let go of the Outcomes
Holding on to our perceived outcomes causes us to judge ourselves on the amount of current progress. We can become self-critical and begin “shoulding” all over ourselves with the belief that we “should” be further along towards a goal.
What if we are EXACTLY where we are supposed be at all times? Remember that an extra firm grip often results in rope burn not more progress.
What if we let go of what we think success is supposed to look like and focus on the process instead? Maybe we are selling ourselves short based on a limited perception and something even greater is in store.
How willing are we to stay consistent with our actions and believe that we will be guided, corrected and redirected along the path?
How willing are we to continue taking the actions without concern for the results?

Having Tea with Our Demons?
Having Tea with our Demons is a metaphor for practicing acceptance of our own Mistakes, Shortcoming, failures, poor judgements, or external circumstances. We may often try to fight these thoughts in an effort to change when things go wrong in life. Some of us may feel that we can self-deprecate ourselves into better actions and become self-critical and assign a sense of blame or shame around of our own limitations.
When we think of the phrase Silence the Enemy Within the question arises of how exactly do, we do this? Fighting these thoughts often only brings more awareness and focus to them through our reticular activating system and Where Focus Goes Energy Flows.
Learning to have tea with our demons is a practice of allowing our mind space to have certain thoughts, accept them as a part of our growth process and using those thoughts to understand the root cause. Understanding the root cause allows us to develop a plan of action to improve.
To improve our flexibility, we don’t force or fight our body into a new position. We gently allow the muscle fibers to expand one fiber at a time and consistently over time our bodies change. If it can happen in our body why can’t happen in our mind?
What rises to the surface in the moments when you feel the most overwhelmed, experience a feeling of impending doom for no good reason, or not enough in some way? What’s your go to self-criticism?
This is a pretty good indicator of our most prominent personal demon who could probably use a cup of Tea…

We have the same ability shift our Mindset and Spiritual Condition as we do with our body. We must continue to expand our awareness and increase and ability to withstand challenges if we are to be resilient when experiencing the anxiety, fear, and uncertainty that we are sure to experience when growing as a person and becoming a better leader.

How many limiting beliefs and I operating on that absolutely believe but simply are not true?
At the core of my limiting belief is it simply a deep-rooted feeling of “Not Enough”? That some challenge will arise that I am “Not Enough” to handle? That I am “not enough’ to deserve the joy or happiness that I seek?
How can I become more aware of the ideas that I have that are real but not true?
How can I build real human connections and lasting relationships by sharing my vulnerabilities with another person to free myself from the bondage of “Self” and the weight of these limiting beliefs?

The Brain makes an average of 35,000 decision each and everyday.
As with our muscles exhausting after a long cardio workout, our brain is also a muscle that becomes exhausted.
As we become fatigued by decision-making, our self-control guard is down, and we are more likely to making impulsive decisions that are not necessarily the right choice.
Sometimes this may not be the wrong choice, but it could just be the safe choice.
How can we avoid decision fatigue and allow ourselves the best opportunity to make the best decisions towards accomplishing our goals and finding fulfillment?
One of the most powerful things we can do is work on getting exterminating the ANTS from our brain. (A)utomatic (N)egative (T)houghts, that have become our knee jerk reactions based on old stories that we have repeated to ourselves over and over again to the point where we are completely unaware of it and we believe that these simply are our thoughts.
The danger is that it eventually becomes a part of our self-talk and those words will eventually become our actions. Those actions will eventually form into habits. Those habits will ultimately become our values and our values will ultimately dictate our destiny. So, if what I'm thinking eventually becomes my actions and ultimately my destiny. How do I take care of what's going through my mind?

Getting 1 % better every day means making changes in our life but sometime we can get in our own way.
We all know If we continue to do what we’ve always done then we’ll continue to get what we’ve always got but IF we’ve decided that there is something about our life that we are unhappy with and we want to improve whether it be our relationships, our health, our finances etc.
Then it going to mean trying something new or making changes in our life which is always is a little bit scary. No matter how tough we are the fear of the unknown always creeps up and we can end up getting in our own way.
What does that mean? We can start telling our selves stories about ourselves that aren’t true and we can star to repeat them to ourselves over and over again in our heads until we actually start believing it. But just because we happen to think something or happen to believe something doesn’t actually make it true.
So what do we do ? How do we get out of our own way?

What does it mean to be Resilient?
The definition according to Webster’s is an ability to recover from or adjust easily to adversity or change and many people speak of its meaning to be synonymous with toughness or elasticity but what does it mean to be mentally resilience?
Anyone who is looking to make changes in their lives, entrepreneurs or anyone continuing down a path towards a goal will need to develop and practice some sort of mental resilience. But the question is how.
Clarity of purpose! Being clear on our vision and having purposeful intentions each day is how we cultivate resiliency. We build this “staying Power” one day at a time by setting clear long term and short-term goals and reverse engineering yearly, monthly, weekly, and daily actions items that align with our goal.
We are able to meet and adjust to adversity when our purpose is clear, our actions are defined, and we remain present on our task at hand.
We can’t control outcomes but we can control our actions and showing up everyday to take those actions is resiliency in action.
Send smiles!

Who are the people in our lives that that we get to support and that fill our cups with Gratitude?
As Jim Rohn says that “we become the average of the 5 people we spend the most time around” How has your circle developed? Was it a natural gravitation to likeminded individuals?
How can we show our appreciation this week? What actions are we taking to express our gratitude? Not that it is transactional but just that it is reciprocal.
Let us make a list of 5 people that are in our lives that we are grateful for and reach out to 1 person a day. Ask them how they are doing and offer to be of service in any way that would be helpful.

Happy Monday! We’re starting something new here called Monday Mindset
Quick 1-3 min podcast design to help you in your practice and designed to help motivate you to be great!
Maintaining a healthy mindset takes work but it is some of the most gratifying work we can do and it starts with a healthy morning routine.
A healthy morning routine doesn’t have to be exhausting. Like most things it’s more important to get started that to be perfect and it will grow and evolve over time. It’s like building muscle memory Neurons that fire wire together so it will get easier over time.
What used to be a lot of work in the beginning will slowing become progressively easier.
Start by doing just one thing!
Jocko Willink says Disciple Equals Freedom. The freedom he is talking about is the freedom to make small adjustments throughout the day when the unexpected happens because we already have a frame work that we are working with. It’s way easier to make one adjustment for something unexpected than it is to recreate a brand-new routine everyday
We’ll have more Monday Mindsets to help you create a morning routine that works for you as well as other tips and practices to maintain a healthy mindset
