Welcome to Lift: A Parenting Podcast, where we ask questions about family and faith. Parenting takes a lot of heavy lifting, both in physical, emotional and spiritual ways. Let's face it raising a family is hard work, some of us are doing it as a single parent, some of us are working with a spouse, but all of us have questions every day. Rev. Kim Meyers and the family ministry team have dreamed of this outlet to connect with families and that dream has become a reality. Our topics come from your questions and the questions that we experience as parents, and here walking with different families.

What if the holiday season was more than just a blur of shopping and gatherings? As a long-time member of St Andrew with deep roots in Texas, I invite you to join me on a journey through the rich narratives of nativity stories and scripture. Together, we'll explore the enchanting rhythms of Advent and Lent, periods that offer a chance to pause amid life's chaos and embrace spiritual renewal. We'll travel across cultures, examining the diverse nativity scenes that reflect a chaotic yet hopeful narrative, placing a spotlight on the biblical accounts of Jesus' birth, particularly those in Luke's gospel. With resources like The Bible Project, we aim to breathe life into these ancient stories, helping you engage with scripture in a meaningful, transformative way.
Our discussion takes a deeper turn as we unravel the concept of hope and faith within scripture's historical context. Zechariah's prophetic voice in the early chapters of Luke serves as a testament to divine promises, even during the oppressive Roman rule. By connecting these biblical events to their spiritual roots, we find a timeless assurance in God's unwavering faithfulness, encouraging us to see beyond our present circumstances. This perspective not only offers hope to early believers but also to us today, reminding us that divine promises transcend time and challenge.
Practicality becomes the heart of our conversation as we explore how Advent can reignite our hope in Christ, encouraging us to spread this hope in tangible ways. The Advent season is an invitation to reflect on God's enduring promises, urging us to be a beacon of light in the world, transforming spaces and lives much like turning on a light in a dark room. Our episode wraps up with a heartfelt prayer, seeking strength to recognize and carry the light of hope into our daily interactions, thereby becoming vessels of Christ's transformative power in the world.

As a parent and former children's pastor, I've often grappled with weaving faith into the tapestry of everyday family life. This episode is a heartfelt reflection on that very journey, exploring how the season of Lent can be a profound time to reinforce faith foundations in our children. In a world where actions speak louder than words, I delve into the transformative power of aligning our deeds with our teachings, especially in the watchful eyes of our little ones. We share stories and offer advice on how to simplify parenting by naturally incorporating faith into daily routines, all while ensuring the consistent demonstration of the fruits of the spirit.
Mental well-being is uncharted territory for many families, but it's a path I've navigated with my child, Dylan, as we faced the storm of anxiety together. In this heart-to-heart, I open up about our personal struggles and triumphs, marrying counseling with the solace found in scripture. Our conversation extends to how we, as a family, practice our faith—beginning with morning devotions and extending through our day-to-day interactions. By sharing my experience as an educator and spiritual guide, I hope to illuminate the delicate balance of protecting our children's innocence while preparing them for life's challenges, all within a framework of faith.
The journey toward Christian perfection is an ongoing trek, not a destination, and it's one best shared with others. This episode celebrates the strength found in supportive communities and the rich, theological dialogue that nurtures faith within the family. I recount how tackling tough questions together can lead to a deeper understanding of our beliefs. We wrap up with a look back at the season's learnings and a celebration of the joyous bonds forged when a family's foundation is deeply rooted in faith. Join us for an episode that reaffirms the beauty of raising faithful children through conversation and shared experiences.

As we wander through Lent, let's unravel the deep roots of our faith and the ways they intertwine with the Fruits of the Spirit. This season offers more than just a time for reflection; it's an opportunity to enrich our souls with virtues like love, joy, and peace. I share a childhood melody that traces these qualities back to Galatians, where we're called to embrace a life aligned with spiritual, not physical, desires. We will navigate how these virtues foster community love and embody the essence of a faith-driven existence.
Imagine a life where discipline and joy coexist harmoniously. That's the journey we embark on as we consider Jesus's role beyond being a profound thought leader. The Fruits of the Spirit are more than just lofty ideals; they're attainable qualities that, with Jesus's guidance, can mold our very nature. We'll unravel what true freedom in Christ means, moving past societal definitions to discover the liberty of making life-affirming choices. Personal stories of struggle and triumph will illuminate this path, showcasing the genuine happiness that blooms from righteous decisions.
The melodies of "Father Abraham" and "Kumbaya" might evoke a smile or a nostalgic tear, but they carry a profound significance that resonates through our spiritual journey. We reminisce about these childhood hymns, reflecting on how they've woven a thread of community and belief that sustains us to this day. Faith isn't just about what we say; it's reflected in our actions and our approach to life. As a former school teacher and pastor, I've seen firsthand the transformative power of living a Christ-centered life and the impact it has on those we touch, from students to parents. Join us as we celebrate the rich tapestry of faith that these songs and our shared experiences have created.
