Deana Forbes (known as Miss Forbes in the school world) is a mother, teacher, coach and entrepreneur. Her testimony of going from a D1 track star to full time mother has inspired many. As a master social studies teacher in the Northern Virginia area, Deana has found a passion for teaching honest and hard Black history in a way that engages students. I give details on how I taught about Barbara Johns in my US and African American History classrooms, why you should incorporate her into your social studies curriculum and the lessons we can learn from her leadership.
