Are you a NEGATIVE RESPONDER? Notice the very firsts word that come out of your mouth when someone asks how your week is going?
If it is not good news, you are not alone. And it is not a personality flaw. It is negativity bias, and every single one of us has it.
But here is the thing. Left unchecked, it quietly shapes how you communicate, how you lead, and how the people around you feel every single day.
In this episode, Phil and Pen introduce one of their favourite concepts:
Responsitivity: when response meets positivity, and the intentional choice to catch your default negative response before it leaves your mouth and choose something better instead.
From the science of why our brains are wired like Velcro for the bad and Teflon for the good, to the moment a team leader says, "Great, but it didn't have to take that long, did it?" and watches the whole room deflate in an instant, this episode is full of real-world examples that will make you see your own communication habits in a completely new light.
And here is a stat worth sitting with: you are six times more likely to be disengaged at work if you believe your manager focuses more on what you do wrong than what you do right. The drip, drip, drip of negative responses is not just uncomfortable. It becomes the culture.
In this episode you'll discover:
By the end of this episode, we want you to notice the very first word that comes out of your mouth in your next conversation. Because those small, ordinary, completely unremarkable moments are drip, drip, dripping your communication style, your leadership and your culture every single day.
Stay tuned for the next episode where Phil and Pen go further into the practical tools to bring Responsitivity to life in your conversations, your team and your organisation.
Do you know someone who always has to be right?
Or maybe you have found yourself stuck in that exhausting loop where you just cannot see eye to eye with someone, no matter how hard you try. You know they are wrong. They are equally convinced you are. And somehow, nobody ever moves.
In this episode, Phil and Pen give you the awareness and the tools to break free from the 'I'm right, you're wrong trap' for good, so you can stop falling out with people, stop going round in circles, and start having conversations that actually move things forward.
Phil and Pen explore one of the most common and costly patterns in human behaviour: getting locked into an I'm right, you're wrong mindset. Otherwise known as 'Polarity Thinking.' At work, at home, on the road, Polarity Thinking shows up everywhere. And most of the time, we do not even realise we are doing it.
From the science behind why our brains are wired to dig in and fight, to the moment two drivers lock eyes on a narrow country lane and neither will back down, this episode is packed with real-world examples and simple, practical tools that will change how you handle every difficult conversation from this point forward.
In this episode you'll discover:
By the end of this episode, you will never look at a disagreement the same way again. Because the problem is almost never the issue. It is the trap.
More from The Polarity Trap in the 4D Human Being Managing Difficult Conversations series, coming soon to 4D On Demand. And do not miss the next episode of the 4D Human Being Podcast, where Phil and Pen go beyond awareness and into how you actually break free from polarity thinking for good.
When did you last imagine the future? Not predict it. Not react to someone else's version of it. But truly, boldly imagine what could be possible?
AI is exceptional at giving you data, analysis and execution. But it cannot dream. It cannot vision. It cannot look beyond what already exists and imagine what might be. That is uniquely, powerfully yours. And in the age of AI, it is about to become the most valuable skill in the room.
In this final episode of their Six Skills for 2026 series, Phil and Pen explore the skill they believe will define the leaders, teams and businesses of the next decade: being Visionary. They break it down into three powerful pillars: Imagining, Planning and Communicating, and why developing all three is no longer optional for anyone who wants to shape the future rather than simply react to it.
From the extraordinary story of Victorian engineer Joseph Bazalgette, who doubled the size of London's sewage tunnels based not on data but on bold imagination, saving the city from catastrophe generations later, to the neuroscience of why scrolling through social media is quite literally shutting down your creative and visionary thinking, this episode is packed with science, stories and practical tools that will change how you think, lead and communicate from today.
And here is a stat worth sitting with: 85% of CEOs say vision is the single most critical skill they need in their leaders. Yet 40% of employees have no idea how their role connects to the vision of their organisation. The gap between where we are and where we need to be has never been greater, or more exciting.
In this episode you'll discover:
By the end of this episode, we want you to ask yourself one question: If the future is coming whether you imagine it or not, what would you build if you started from scratch today?
Are you using your superpower?
AI can write your strategy, analyse your data and automate your processes. But it will never make another human being feel truly seen, heard and understood. That is your superpower. And this episode will show you exactly how to make the most of it, and create the kind of impact only you as a 4D human beingcan make.
In this episode you will discover why Relatability is not a soft skill but your single greatest competitive advantage in the age of AI, and why the leaders, teams and businesses that master it will be the ones that win.
Phil and Pen explore the fifth of their Six Skills for 2026: Relatability. They break it down into three powerful pillars: Sharing, Caring and Communicating, and why these are hardwired into our very survival as a species. This is not about being nicer at work. This is biology, neuroscience and human evolution, and it is the difference between a team that performs and one that truly thrives.
From the neuroscience of oxytocin and why human connection is the precondition for great work, to the sponge cake to red velvet cake story of how Homo sapiens outpaced every other species simply by sharing ideas, this episode is packed with science, stories and real-world examples that will shift how you show up every single day and inspire those around you.
And here is a stat worth sitting with: research shows that social isolation is the physiological equivalent of smoking 15 cigarettes a day. How you show up for the people around you, colleagues and customers alike, matters more than you think.
In this episode you'll discover:
By the end of this episode, we want you to ask yourself one question: What if today your job title was Chief Relatability Officer? What is the first thing you would implement today?

Your plan is not the final goal. It never was.
Does it feel like someone just quietly turned up the speed on the treadmill — and nobody asked if you were ready? Because life is moving fast right now. Really fast. And most of us are just trying to keep our footing, quietly hoping that today might be the day nothing new gets thrown at us.
It won’t be. But here’s the good news.
The leaders and teams who thrive aren’t the ones with the tightest plan. They’re the ones who’ve trained themselves to move without one. And that’s a skill — not a personality trait you either have or you don’t.
In the fourth instalment of their Six Skills for 2026 series, Phil and Pen get into what adaptability actually looks like in practice — not as an abstract buzzword, but in your body, your meetings, and your leadership in real time.
In this episode, they walk you through how to:
When the ground shifts beneath you, there are three choices. Wait. Stagnate. Or create.
The competitive advantage now isn’t knowledge. It’s the speed at which you can learn. And here’s the thing — you are far more remarkable at this than you give yourself credit for.
As mentioned in this episode, Philippa explores the improvising mindset and how every connection and interaction shapes your reality in her TEDx Talk. Watch it here: The Improvising Mindset
You’re not stuck. You’re resisting. Start exploring instead of defending.
In this episode, the third in our six-part series on the critical skills for 2026, we focus on curiosity and why it matters now more than ever. From AI to everyday decisions, the world is shifting fast. The question is not whether change is happening. It is how curious you are willing to be in response to it.
This is not about becoming someone new overnight. It is about recognising the patterns that keep you fixed, defensive, and closed off, then learning how to move through them with intention.
And curiosity is the skill that changes the outcome.
We explore why so many people stay in “expert mode” and how that mindset quietly limits growth, opportunity, and connection. You will hear how resistance shows up in meetings, relationships, and leadership, often disguised as confidence or experience.
And more importantly, what to do about it.
In your professional and personal life, answers will only take you so far. The real value is in the questions you ask and the ground you are willing to explore.
So the next time you feel yourself shutting down, defending, or rushing to the answer…
Pause.
And ask one more question.
AI can write. AI can design. AI can code. So what's left for you?
Creativity. But not the kind you're thinking of.
Most of us have quietly decided we're not creative. Not really. That's for the artists, the designers, the people who were born with it. The rest of us are the ones who colour inside the lines — and frankly, we're fine with that.
Except we're not fine. Because right now, at the exact moment creative thinking has become the single most valuable skill on the planet, 8 in 10 people believe it's critical to economic growth — and only 1 in 4 think they're actually living up to their own creative potential. That gap is enormous. And it's costing people.
In this episode, Phil and Pen make the case that everything you've been told about creativity is wrong. It has nothing to do with being artistic. It has nothing to do with a flash of genius or a lightbulb moment. It's about thinking differently — and that is something every single person listening to this can do. Today.
They walk you through:
Because the world doesn't need you to wait for instructions anymore. You have three choices — wait, stagnate, or create. And there has never been a more important moment to choose creation.
Listen to this episode and try this — take your job title, imagine an assistant handles everything routine, and rewrite your role with the word creative in mind. Just see where it takes you.
What if the one skill that could transform your leadership, your team and your career is the one most people are getting wrong?
Over the next six episodes, Phil and Pen explore the skills that matter most right now, drawn from research, coaching, workshops and years of experience working with leaders and teams across the globe.
We're kicking off with accountability, one of the most talked-about yet least understood words in the workplace. Too often it gets confused with blame, punishment or surveillance. But real accountability is something far more powerful. It's the foundation of every high performing team, the backbone of self-development and one of the most important skills you can build in a world that is moving faster than ever.
In this episode Phil and Pen explore why accountability has never been more critical in fluid, hybrid and remote working structures. They discuss how traditional frameworks that once held teams together have shifted, leaving a gap that only a more intentional approach to accountability can fill.
They introduce the CARE model, a practical four-step framework for having accountability conversations that keep relationships intact, focus on shared goals and create lasting change rather than short-term fixes.
Phil and Pen also dig into the difference between vertical and horizontal accountability, the surprising connection between consistency and success, and why discipline—far from being old-fashioned—might be the most underrated skill you can develop right now.
In this episode you will learn:
Whether you lead a team, work within one or simply want to show up better in your own life, this episode will give you the tools and language to make accountability feel less like a burden and more like a superpower.

What if the secret to thriving through change wasn't about having all the answers, but knowing how to move without them?
In this episode of the 4D Human Being podcast, Phil and Pen bring us the final instalment of their Leading Through Change series, recorded on the beautiful Isle of Arran, exploring the one mindset that changes everything — adaptability.
Drawing on Phil's background in professional improvisation, this episode is packed with practical, tangible tools you can bring into your meetings, your leadership and your everyday life starting today.
Phil and Pen walk you through how to:
Change isn't slowing down. The leaders and teams who thrive won't be the ones with the tightest plan. They'll be the ones who've trained themselves to stay present, stay curious and keep moving.
The biggest barrier to change isn't the change itself, it's what happens in your head the moment it arrives.
In this episode of the 4D Human Being podcast, Phil and Pen reveal the hidden behaviours that keep us stuck at the edge of change and give you a practical roadmap to move through them with confidence.
Whether you're leading a team through transformation or navigating uncertainty in your own life, this episode will help you spot the subtle signs of resistance in yourself and others, understand why they happen, and crucially, what to do about them.
Phil and Pen walk you through five powerful steps:
Change isn't slowing down. The leaders and humans who thrive aren't the ones who fight it or surrender to it. They're the ones who learn to move with it.
Listen to this episode and leave with one simple practice: Stop. Breathe. Name what's happening. Then ask what can we actually do here?

Resistance isn’t the problem. It’s the signal.
Philippa and Penelope from 4D Human Being are back — and if change is on your radar right now, you don’t want to miss this one.
Two people who’ve sat inside enough organisations to know that most change fails not because the strategy was wrong, but because the humans weren’t brought along.
People don’t resist change. They resist being unclear, unsupported, and unconvinced.
The Switch Model nails it in three parts:
Simple framework, genuinely useful — and Philippa and Penelope pull it apart in a way that actually sticks.
The conversation gets particularly good when they hit the leadership blind spot nobody wants to admit: you’re being watched more than you’re being heard. What you do and what you praise moves people faster than any slide deck.
Three tools they leave you with that actually work:
Warm, sharp, and to the point. Whether you’re leading change, living through it, or quietly resisting it yourself — this conversation will shift something for you.
Less push. More possibility.

Last week we mapped the mindset, the stories you tell yourself, and the move from autopilot to intention. This week, we pick up the thread and turn it into action.
We look at identity and habit, and how Daniel Kahneman’s brain operating System 1 loves routine while System 2 builds new skills. We name the real worries around jobs, inequality and risk, and keep ethics, data care and the Environment in view. Then we bring it back to you, your relationships, your leadership and your WellBeing.
Start here when you plan how AI works with you:
You will leave with one clear aim. Choose intention over fear, so you happen to the world, rather than the world happening to you.
What if, instead of reacting with fear or overwhelm, we chose to meet artificial intelligence with curiosity and intention so it helps us become more human, not just more task driven?
In this episode of the 4D Human Being Podcast, Philippa and Penelope Waller invite you to step into the conversation around AI with clarity, self-awareness and choice. As the world evolves faster than ever, this episode explores how to stay grounded in your human skills, lead with presence, and approach uncertainty with a growth mindset.
Together, they unpack:
Whether you're feeling cautious, curious or committed to AI, this episode offers a reset point to help you align your mindset with the moment. Because it’s not just about understanding new technology, it’s about choosing who you want to be as you meet it.
Want more cohesive, collaborative, and healthy teams? Most team problems don’t start in the plan—they start in the space between people. In this podcast, Philippa and Penelope break down the behaviours that quietly wreck trust and teamwork, so you can build teams that actually work well together.
You’ll hear about Gottman’s Four Horsemen and how they show up in everyday team life:
Defensiveness – That knee-jerk pushback, blame-shifting and excuse-making instead of listening.
Criticism/Blame – Attacking someone’s character rather than addressing the issue.
Contempt – Acting superior through sarcasm, eye-rolling, or mean-spirited jokes.
Stonewalling – Completely checking out and going radio silent.
Better yet, you’ll get practical antidotes you can use today. Curiosity turns defensiveness into learning. Constructive communication replaces blame with clarity. Appreciation undercuts contempt. Care and connection repair stonewalling. You’ll hear real examples, scripts, and simple tweaks you can try this week to cut drama and build a shared language for conflict that actually helps.
If you’re tired of being stuck in the “who’s right?” mud pit, this is your way out.
Follow the show, share it with someone who needs it, and drop a quick review. Which antidote will you try first?
What makes teams work or fail? It all comes down to trust. In part 2 of our Top Teams series, Philippa and Penelope Waller dive deep into the essential foundation of effective teamwork, revealing that without trust, even the most talented groups will struggle to achieve their potential.
Drawing from Patrick Lencioni's "Five Dysfunctions of a Team" model, the hosts explore two critical dimensions of trust that operate in every team environment. Personal trust, built through vulnerability and relationship-building, creates the emotional bonds that allow teams to weather challenges together. Meanwhile, predictive trust, established through consistency and reliability, provides the stable framework that enables efficient collaboration. The hosts share powerful personal stories that illustrate how quickly trust can form when people feel safe enough to be authentic with one another.
Communication emerges as the lifeline that either strengthens or undermines trust within teams. The hosts offer practical wisdom about avoiding common pitfalls, like overreliance on email when dealing with sensitive issues, and instead choosing communication channels that foster genuine connection. They emphasize that effective communication isn't just about delivering a message, but ensuring it's received and understood in the way it was intended.
Perhaps most valuable are the actionable strategies provided throughout the episode. From approaching vulnerability through "concentric circles" of disclosure to changing the energy you bring to difficult conversations, these practical tools can transform team dynamics almost immediately. One particularly powerful suggestion: spend 80% of your time on positive, intentional communication with your team for just one week and watch what happens.
Whether you're struggling with a toxic team environment or simply looking to elevate an already good team to greatness, this episode provides the insights and strategies you need. Listen now to discover how building trust can unlock your team's full potential and create a more fulfilling work experience for everyone involved.
What if trust isn't just something that magically appears in teams, but rather something you can actively build? In this insightful exploration of team dynamics, Philippa and Penelope Waller unpack the often mysterious concept of trust and transform it into practical, actionable strategies that anyone can implement.
At the heart of this episode lies a powerful revelation: trust operates through two distinct channels. Personal trust, built through vulnerability and relationship-building, offers the quickest path to connection but carries inherent risks. Meanwhile, predictive trust develops through consistency and reliability, creating a foundation of dependability that teams can count on. Both approaches are essential, yet many of us unconsciously favor one over the other based on our personal histories and preferences.
Through vivid examples—including an unexpectedly perfect analogy involving Elsa's costume change in Frozen—the hosts illustrate how seamless collaboration depends entirely on trust. When team members can't rely on each other, even the most talented individuals fail to achieve their collective potential. Conversely, when trust flourishes, teams can accomplish seemingly impossible feats through synchronized effort.
The discussion delves into practical communication strategies that build rather than erode trust. From avoiding the overuse of "Reply All" emails (which often serve as subtle accountability weapons) to understanding how different team members need to receive information, these actionable insights help navigate the complex human terrain of teamwork. Perhaps most importantly, the hosts emphasize the need to step toward rather than away from difficult conversations, recognizing that avoidance only widens trust gaps.
Whether you're leading a team, working within one, or simply navigating relationships in your personal life, this episode offers transformative perspectives on how to create environments where trust can thrive. Try their closing challenge: spend 80% of your time focused on brilliant communication with your team for just one week. The results might surprise you by Friday afternoon.
What happens when expectations meet reality during those six fleeting summer weeks? In this thoughtful exploration of summer lessons, the 4D Human Being directors dive into the illuminating gap between what we anticipate and what actually unfolds.
Through stories of puppies, cats, teenage concerts in Barcelona, and dance competitions, Philippa and Penelope reveal a powerful truth: while we should aim to reduce unnecessary anxiety, learning to tolerate discomfort is essential for a meaningful life. Any experience involving connection, novelty, learning, or joy inherently requires stepping into uncertainty. As they put it, "The opposite of uncertainty isn't certainty, it's self-trust."
The conversation examines how "defensive pessimism", our tendency to ruminate over worst-case scenarios can both protect and constrain us. When we're caught in indecision, anxiety escalates; but the moment we take action, it begins to subside. This summer wisdom translates directly to workplace challenges, leadership roles, and team dynamics, where change and uncertainty are increasingly unavoidable.
Perhaps most poignantly, they discuss how our anxiety affects those around us. When we allow our fears to drive our behaviour, we create stressful environments for family members and colleagues alike. By developing greater self-awareness during these reflective summer moments, we position ourselves to navigate life's complexities with more intention and less reactivity.
As autumn approaches, carrying these insights forward can transform how we experience change, not by eliminating anxiety, but by expanding our capacity to work with it.

In this concluding episode of our Spiral Dynamics trilogy, we explore how leaders can create truly integrated cultures that honour diverse perspectives across the entire spiral.
Ever wondered why your carefully crafted company values resonate with some team members but fall flat with others? The answer lies in understanding that people operate from different value sets – what motivates someone with a process-oriented "blue" mindset differs dramatically from what drives an achievement-focused "orange" perspective.
We break down five essential areas for building a spiral-aware culture:
Offering practical insights for speaking to every colour on the spiral.
We dive into the fascinating world of holacracy – a decentralized approach to organizational structure exemplified by companies like Zappos and Whole Foods. Using the human body as a metaphor, we explore how organisations function as interdependent systems where each part operates both autonomously and as part of a greater whole. This systems thinking approach recognises that intelligence exists throughout an organisation, not just at the top of a hierarchy.
For leaders, developing an "improviser mindset" is key – the ability to flex between different value sets, meeting people where they are while moving the organisation forward. Even in moments of conflict, there's always a gift if you're willing to look for it. By understanding the vital role each spiral perspective plays, you can build cultures where people feel valued for their authentic contributions and your organization benefits from the full spectrum of human potential.

Ever wonder why some conversations flow effortlessly while others feel like you're speaking entirely different languages? The answer lies in understanding value systems, the internal frameworks that determine how we process information and connect with others.
We explore the practical application of Spiral Dynamics, revealing how to communicate effectively with people across different value sets. Whether you're trying to influence a team member who prizes autonomy (Red), collaborate with a colleague who thrives on processes (Blue), or connect with a partner who prioritises inclusivity (Green), we provide concrete strategies to help your message resonate.
We break down exactly how to adjust your language, tone, medium, and timing based on the values of your audience. For those who value tribal belonging (Purple), we show how informal settings and team-focused language create connection. For success-driven individuals (Orange), we demonstrate how framing conversations around opportunity and achievement yields results. Each value set requires its own unique approach, and we give you the tools to master them all.
But this isn't just theory, it's immediately applicable communication magic. We share real-world examples of how shifting your approach can transform relationships, reduce friction, and help you achieve your goals more efficiently. From crafting the perfect email subject line to knowing when a spontaneous conversation will be more effective than a scheduled meeting, these insights will revolutionise how you interact with everyone in your life.
By understanding the values that drive different communication styles, you gain the ability to create what we call "fertile soil", the perfect conditions for your message to be received exactly as intended. This isn't about manipulation; it's about thoughtful influencing that respects others' perspectives while achieving meaningful connection.

Have you ever wondered why some people just don't seem to get it, no matter how clearly you explain? Or why your well-intentioned efforts to connect or lead sometimes fall flat? The answer might lie in a fascinating model called Spiral Dynamics.
In this eye-opening episode, Philippa and Penelope Waller introduce us to the powerful framework of Spiral Dynamics - a model that reveals how we all view the world through different "coloured lenses" without even realising it. These lenses represent our core values, which fundamentally shape how we interpret everything around us and drive our behaviours in ways we rarely recognise.
This episode navigates through the colour-coded value systems that humans move through both individually and collectively: from Beige (survival) to Purple (tribal belonging), Red (egocentric power), Blue (order and structure), Orange (achievement and strategy), Green (pluralism and relationships), and Yellow (systems thinking). With vivid examples and practical insights, demonstrating how these different value sets explain conflicts in relationships, workplaces, and even global politics.
What makes this model particularly powerful is its dynamic nature. Unlike fixed personality types, we spiral up and down through these value systems depending on context, life stage, and circumstances. Understanding this movement gives us a roadmap for personal growth and unlocks new possibilities for communicating across seemingly unbridgeable divides.
Whether you're struggling with a difficult relationship, leading a team through change, or simply curious about what makes humans tick, this episode offers illuminating insights that will transform how you see yourself and others.

Have you ever left an interview wishing you'd been more concise, more engaging, or simply more yourself? You're not alone.
In part two of our interview skills series, we're back exploring advanced interview techniques. We move beyond the basics to uncover the psychological dynamics and communication strategies that separate good candidates from truly memorable ones.
At its core, the perfect interview isn't an interrogation but a collaborative conversation where both sides are evaluating fit and potential. We reveal why many candidates unconsciously fall into parent-child dynamics during interviews and provide practical techniques to maintain adult-to-adult conversations that showcase your authentic professional self.
Conciseness emerges as perhaps the most critical skill, with our "Three Things" technique offering a simple framework to structure responses without boring your interviewers with chronological life histories. We explore the Integral Map method that helps you balance perspectives between "I" (your experience), "you" (the interviewer's needs), "we" (collaborative future), and "it" (the role/organisation) – ensuring you're not trapped in self-reference.
Whether you're early in your career or interviewing for executive positions, these techniques will transform how you prepare, engage, and follow up after interviews. The relationships you build during this process might lead to opportunities far beyond the specific role you're discussing today. Ready to shift from simply answering questions to creating meaningful professional connections? This episode is your masterclass.
The modern job market has transformed the interview process from a one-sided evaluation to a dynamic partnership conversation. Are you still approaching interviews as tests to be passed rather than opportunities to showcase your unique value?
Philippa and Penelope Waller, challenge conventional interview wisdom by revealing the psychology behind successful interviewing. Drawing from their extensive coaching experience with both early career professionals and senior executives, they explain why mindset trumps qualification checklists in today's hiring landscape.
The traditional career trajectory of degree-to-job is rapidly dissolving, replaced by a marketplace that demands entrepreneurial thinking regardless of role. Even when pursuing conventional positions, candidates must approach interviews thinking like solopreneurs asking "what value can I create?" rather than "please choose me."
This episode uncovers game-changing techniques rarely taught in traditional interview preparation. Learn why linguistic precision matters more than you think, using the exact words your interviewers use creates powerful psychological alignment. Discover how body language tricks like subtle chair positioning can establish presence before you've said a word. Master the art of balanced eye contact to engage every panel member, not just the person asking questions.
Perhaps most valuably, the hosts explain why having 2-3 well-crafted stories ready transforms standard responses into memorable moments. These should connect thematically to the role while demonstrating your unique problem-solving approach and creating emotional connection.
Whether you're early in your career or a seasoned professional looking to advance, these fundamental techniques will transform how you approach your next interview.
Subscribe today to stay posted and be ready for part two, where Philippa and Penelope will explore advanced strategic question answering techniques that will further set you apart from the competition.
What separates an inspiring leader from a forgettable one? What transforms a difficult conversation into a collaborative breakthrough? What pulls us out of the quagmire of problems and onto the path of possibilities? The answer lies in communicating with vision.
In this episode, we explore why vision is the missing ingredient in so many of our professional and personal interactions. While our natural tendency (reinforced by media and social algorithms) pulls us toward focusing on problems, difficulties, and uncertainties, truly effective communication paints vivid pictures of shared futures that people can step into together.
Drawing from research on high-performing teams and persuasion psychology, we reveal why shared goals create more powerful motivation than any other factor.
We share practical examples from sports teams like Wrexham FC to corporate turnarounds to everyday scenarios at the coffee machine, demonstrating how vision and storytelling creates connection even in moments of conflict or disagreement.
You'll learn specific techniques to elevate your communication through visionary language, including how to engage all senses, focus on the right number of goals (hint: the brain loves threes), and make your vision "sticky" through repetition. We also explore how to apply these principles not just at work but in personal relationships, transforming everything from family holiday planning to resolving disagreements.
The joy of creating "a thing that wasn't a thing and is now a thing" is one of life's greatest pleasures. By mastering the art of communicating with vision, you'll not only inspire others but discover how to happen to the world rather than letting the world merely happen to you.
What if conflict isn't something to avoid, but rather a doorway to creativity and growth? In this episode, Philippa and Penelope Waller challenge us to transform how we view disagreement in our personal and professional lives.
Most of us instinctively avoid conflict or approach it as a win-lose battle. We've been conditioned to see tension as destructive rather than potentially creative. What if we viewed it as a refreshing alternative: conflict as the spark that ignites innovation and deeper understanding. Like "the grit in your oyster" that eventually produces a pearl, our most uncomfortable moments often lead to our greatest growth.
When working with teams and organisations, Philippa and Penelope explore how conflict signals what needs attention in our relationships and systems. That persistent friction between colleagues? It's rarely about the surface issue – it's the system's way of highlighting deeper needs for recognition, clarity, or fairness. By listening to conflict rather than suppressing it, we access insights that might otherwise remain hidden.
Also how can a understanding of the drama triangle (victim-persecutor-rescuer) make us work towards the winner's triangle (creator-challenger-coach). This powerful framework offers concrete roles we can intentionally adopt to transform unproductive tensions into opportunities for collaboration.
Ready to stop sweeping tensions under the carpet and instead harness their creative potential?
Subscribe to continue exploring how intentional communication can transform your relationships and unlock your potential as a four-dimensional human being.
Conflict is a part of all our lives! And it can be incredibly time-consuming, distracting and difficult for so many of us. Raising anxiety and blocking constructive, collaborative and joyful relationships both at work and at home. In this episode of the 4D podcast Philippa and Penelope look at a whole new way to think about conflict, starting with reframing conflict and changing the word ‘conflict’ itself. Plus tools and tips how to step into difference and disagreement in a whole new way… Reducing anxiety and increasing confidence, communication and co-creativity with all your colleagues.
In this springtime hike edition of the 4D Human Being Podcast, Philippa and Penelope explore the power of the reset—not as a dramatic life overhaul, but as small, intentional shifts that create meaningful change.
From adjusting your mindset before a team meeting to doing a few minutes of exercise while the kettle boils, Phil and Pen share practical ways to reset energy, attention and intention, right in the moment.
Discover how reframing your perspective, celebrating the present, and being mindful of where you place your focus can reset your experience of the world, and of yourself.
Whether it’s in the boardroom or the garden, this episode reminds us that the next five minutes are always within our power. It’s not about changing everything. It’s about shifting something.

What makes a great communicator today? In this episode, Philippa and Penelope Waller are joined by fellow 4D Director Matt Beresford to explore how you can communicate with more clarity, connection and impact—whether you're leading a team, presenting an idea, or navigating everyday conversations.
As technology speeds up and attention spans shrink, strong communication is quickly becoming one of the most important leadership skills. The team explore how to balance authenticity with the need to grab attention, why emotional connection matters more than polish, and how even AI might be offering us the gift of more time to focus on real human interaction.
They also share personal experiences from the local supermarket, reflecting on how the team’s engagement and the feeling of leaving with a positive experience raises a bigger question—are we overlooking the power of communication, even at the most everyday level?
There are also unexpected lessons from political figures. Regardless of your views, there's something to take from Keir Starmer’s relaxed body language, Angela Rayner’s grounded tone, and the performative presence of figures like Boris Johnson and Donald Trump.
Whether you’re speaking at a meeting, leading a presentation, or simply trying to connect more meaningfully with others, this episode is a powerful reminder that communication isn’t just about delivery—it’s about presence, intention and creating a shared human experience.

In this episode of our silent retreat series, we delve into "Lesson 2: Assumptions" and "Lesson 3: Ego." Join us as we explore the profound impact assumptions and ego can have on our personal and professional lives.
Assumptions can create barriers and lead to misunderstandings, both in the workplace and in our personal relationships. During the silent retreat, Philippa learned how quickly we form assumptions about others based on limited information. These assumptions can keep us stuck in old patterns and prevent us from seeing the true potential in ourselves and others.
Following on from Assumptions, the ego influences how we perceive ourselves and others. A healthy ego allows us to maintain a balanced and robust sense of self, whereas an unhealthy ego can lead to defensiveness, self-doubt, and conflict. By understanding and managing our ego, we can respond to challenges with greater resilience and openness.
By becoming aware of our assumptions and ego, we can start to question them and open up new possibilities. This episode offers practical tips on how to break free from limiting assumptions and how to cultivate a healthy ego for more positive interactions.
Challenge your assumptions, manage your ego, and enhance your leadership skills through mindful awareness and intentional actions.

The retreat underscored that we are always on display, whether we're speaking or not. This approach helps shift our perspective from feeling overwhelmed by problems to seeing the potential for positive change and growth.
Additionally, we delve into the "Energy to Act." Discover how energising yourself and taking deliberate steps into uncertainty can empower you and your team. Action, even small and purposeful, can break the paralysis of overthinking and stimulate a momentum that leads to meaningful outcomes. Whether it's making that crucial phone call, updating your profile, or simply taking a walk to clear your mind, harnessing your energy to act is a vital strategy in overcoming adversity.

Re-listening to this episode was fascinating because it was recorded just as the world was emerging from the pandemic, with expectations of everything becoming rosy and easy. Yet, businesses and individuals are still facing tough times, job layoffs, and significant changes, making this episode incredibly relevant.

We explore the power of choice and the importance of accepting where you are. Jessie shares a great insight about sitting in moments that rock your world and taking action from there.
This episode is packed with practical tips to help you get back on a pathway of positivity and choice. It emphasises the importance of taking control of your WellBeing and decisions. We need to take the reins rather than wait for others or the world to change.

There are so many things in life you can’t control. You can’t control what happens next week or next year. You can’t control global economic markets. You can’t control whether your heating breaks or a water pipe bursts. You can’t control the weather. You can’t control the transport system. You can’t control what a colleague, team member or boss says to you. You can’t control whether someone is irritated, upset or angry. You can’t control what’s happened in the past. You can’t control what’s going to happen in the future.
BUT… you can control how you show up in the very next moment. You can choose your impact right now. Whatever situation you’re in, whatever challenges you’re facing, you can choose how you show up and the impact you make in the very next moment of your life. How wonderful and incredible is that!

Pen and Phil back discussing our 5th and final key point to being the hero of your own story - Embracing Commitment.
Being the hero of our own story means that even through the scary or tough moments, we need to commit to learning new skills, and we need to commit to keeping going, step by step, at the centre of our own lives and choices. Being committed means being focussed on the process, on each step we take.
Being truly committed to a new skill, a goal, an ambition, or another person, team or business means we will stay focussed, reliable and loyal in the tough times as well as the good times. Commitment is a force that helps us believe something is possible. A force that can bind us to a project, to other people or to a business.
Pen and Phil walk us through both personal and professional scenarios where embracing commitment can appear throughout our lives.

When we say ‘love’ we don’t mean romantic love, but rather ‘compassionate love.’ Love based on caring, warmth, connection and affection.

So join 4D for some tips on how you too can help to...spread the love.

Welcome to the 4D Human Being podcast. Join us in this episode as we explore some of the 4D knowledge and tools for developing life and leadership skills - 'from the inside and out'.
Because our experience of life, love and leadership starts with...ourselves. And that means what's going on inside us (the mind) and outside of us (behaviours). And this starts with the 4 things that we as individuals or leaders simply must take responsibility for ourselves. 1. Self-awareness 2. A Healthy Ego 3. A Strong & Varied Network. 4. Communication Skills.
In this episode, we join Philippa and Penelope in Italy, where they discuss the importance of storytelling and communication. Important both in terms of the impact you create and because... You are the story you tell in the world.

We are shaped by our relationships and we are the sum of our interactions. So how can we better manage and shape our network and relationships to build our leadership journey, experience and … our impact?
Welcome to the 4D Human Being podcast. Join us in this episode as we explore some of the 4D knowledge and tools for developing life and leadership skills - 'from the inside and out'.

In this episode, Penelope and Philippa are asking "how is your ego?" We all have to be aware of our ego - and the 'triggers' our ego has. We discuss the use of language when we are emotionally triggered, pulling ourselves back to 'intention', and how as individuals and leaders we can help others get into their healthy ego state.

4. Communication Skills
In this episode, Penelope and Philippa look at the first of these and take you on a journey through 4D self-awareness, our patterns of behaviour, owning (and celebrating!) who we really are, and importantly...how crucial our positive relationship with ourselves is key to our life experience and our skill as a leader. At 4D, we love this work, how to think about life and leadership - and how to take action and apply it. We hope you do too.
This episode is all about being fundamental, foundational and fabulous with 4D.
How can you apply the 4D2C model to life? How do you deal with the daily mind game questions you have with yourself and stop to think "what's the point?".
We are looking at your physical and emotional dimensions and if they are boosting other people's experience so that you are feeding into the collective wellbeing and giving back positivity into the system.
How much time do you spend thinking about how you are showing up and behaving?
Tap into your intentional dimension to see how the jigsaw pieces of your life fit into place to not just affect you but others. Is the atmosphere appropriate for the information you intend to relay? Have you taken the time to plan and apply the 4D2C? Does your mind veer towards the negative or positive? 4D2C gives you the information you need to make those choices.
4D2C is all about mapping to prepare for your experience. How does it map out for you? What social events work for you and what will you drop from your calendar? Be choiceful about how you live your life and what you chose to do.
We wish you a fabulous foundation builder with the 4D2C model and want you to make choices about everything you do to make life better for everyone.
In this episode, we discuss shifting from a '3D human doing' to a '4D human being.' So that you can happen to the world, rather than the world happening to you.
What affects you? The people around you? Your environment? We are all thrown daily curve balls which can impact us hugely. so this episode is about switching on our ‘intentional self’ and being ‘at choice’. Having the ability to regulate your state and accept not always feeling empowered but knowing that there is always choice. We look at applying the ‘4D doughnut’ model to your daily life...your physical, emotional, intellectual and intentional dimensions. Whether that’s structuring communication, understanding others, processing things differently, acknowledging your shadow - and much more.
How can you live, love and lead in 4D in all areas of your life - not just the office!
Welcome to the 4D Human Being Podcast. We are brilliant as human beings in focusing on the ‘what’. What we do, what others do or did, what needs to get done and so it goes on! And… at 4D Human Being we know that the ‘what’ is important, and… we are passionate about the ‘how’. How you communicate, how you land your message, how you set an intention, how you impact others, and how you make other people feel. And when we focus on the ‘how’ we realize how much choice we have in communicating and creating the experience of life! Join Philippa and Penelope as they discuss taking control of The Big How. Check out more at 4Dhumanbeing.com. Enjoy the show!
Welcome to the 4D Human Being Podcast. Welcome to the 4D Human Being Podcast. We are celebrating Creativity and Hybrid working at 4D, so join Philippa and Penelope as they discuss one of the elements of our home & work lives. That is… Energy. We may be surprised to learn that one of the main ways we expend our energy as human beings is through our brain activity. Our brain accounts for about 20% of our total energy requirements!
So as intentional, conscious human beings - let’s not waste that precious energy on unnecessary mental tasks or ruminations. Let’s ‘spend’ that energy on what really counts. For ourselves and for others. Check out more at 4Dhumanbeing.com. Enjoy the show!
Welcome to the 4D Human Being Podcast. We are celebrating Creativity and Hybrid working at 4D, so join Philippa and Penelope as they discuss one of the elements of our home & work lives. That is… Burnout. Whether considering our own well-being, relationships or creativity, burn out will massively impact our ability to optimize our creative input into the world. So how can we minimize the possibility of burnout or the level of stress so as to stay well, and optimize our creative self in life, love and leadership. Check out more at 4Dhumanbeing.com. Today we ask - are we willing to let go, in order to let in? As the Professor of Literature - Joseph Campbell - said
“We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us “
Letting go of outdated plans and narratives can give space for new thoughts and new experiences. Find out more about 4D Human Being online at 4Dhumanbeing.com. We hope you enjoy the show. Like and Subscribe!
In a world where planning anything for the next few days, weeks and months are challenging, Penelope and Philippa ponder on how we can adjust our thinking about what we look forward to. Whether that’s or appreciating a glove that works on an iPhone or looking forward to a pimped bowl of porridge. Can we rethink where our actual pleasure and joy comes from and seek it in those smaller moments of life? Enjoy the show!
Welcome to the 4D human Being podcast. Today we ask - What are you modelling? How can you “be the change you wish to see in the world (Credit to Gandhi for that one!😌).
What we do and model in the world is more likely to change our own experience, other peoples ideas and other peoples behaviours than perhaps we might think.

Don’t worry! In this episode Philippa and Penelope are talking about worry. And Philippa has gone bullet point crazy with all the topics we would love to cover on this very important subject. Enjoy the show!
In this episode, Penelope and Philippa take a walk in the Surrey woods (in a support bubble kind of a way!) with their dogs Billy and Bear. Whilst the terrain isn’t that suitable for rollerblading - they do discuss the idea of rollerblading and much more as they explore the question ‘what do we want?’ Perhaps not a question we ask ourselves when we are juggling the challenges of life, especially in current times. But perhaps an important question, since it is particularly at times when we are under stress that it can feel like the world is telling us what we can and can’t do and who we can and can’t be. From wanting a muffin to wanting to be a mentor, take a ‘walk’ with them as they ramble through life and how we can try to do what we can to consciously create it.
Is the world happening to you or are you happening to the world? In this episode, Philippa and Penelope discuss how as human beings we have much more control over the creation of our own realities and experiences than perhaps many of us realise. Are we always being buffeted around by the changing weather of life, or do we find ways to stay on course, feeling clear about who we are, what we want and the reality we want to create? Join Phil and Pen as they laugh and look at some of those big questions.
In this episode, Master Coach and Cultural Change Consultant Rebecca Watson is back on the show talking with 4D’s Katie Churchman about listening to and learning from the body’s signals.
‘Not doing enough’ is a fear-based activity and in this episode Becks advocates for more space to listen to- and see- the body for what it is: an amazing and unbelievably complex system that’s only got our best interests at heart! This podcast covers a variety of topics including: personal energy, self-care, appreciating the body and changing the relationship we have with our body.
In this episode of the 4D Human Being podcast Matt, Philippa and Claire are talking about the challenges of leading through uncertainty and managing a creative team. They draw on the parallels between business leadership and theatre from interviews held with current theatre directors and their own experience as actors, theatre directors and coaches.
In this episode, 4D’s Matt Beresford and Penelope Waller use the 4D2C model as a foundation to discuss how the COVID pandemic and lockdown have radically changed the world around us. They discuss how it has impacted us physically, emotionally and intellectually and also, what we might do to respond. They also look at how we can find joy in the everyday- in the here and now- in a world where the future is less predictable than ever…
Penelope and Philippa have very different approaches to being early and being late! They humorously discuss these differences, as well as different levels of responsibility we feel in life, how much capacity we each have to juggle things in our lives and of course... doing the whole dirty hand thing!
In this episode, 4D’s Philippa and Penelope look at the topic of shame. How this universal feeling arises through our interactions, how it can overwhelm us and dictate the choices we make. Join Pen and Phil as they laugh their way through the triggers, feelings and behaviours of shame, getting told off, self-compassion and unexpected Sunday delivery parcels.
In this episode, 4D’s Katie Churchman is talking with Master Coach and Cultural Change Consultant Rebecca Watson about life after lock-down.

In this episode of the 4D Human Being podcast, Penelope Waller and Matt Beresford talk to Jack Rathborn, a sports journalist with the Independent, on how the Coronavirus pandemic has impacted both the world of sport and those who love it.
For many people sport is a huge part of life - whether that’s playing, spectating or arguing about it over a beer with friends. It provides the lubricant to a lot of our social interactions and acts as a series of waymarks through the year; it provides a sense of camaraderie, excitement, purpose and tribalism – all of which human beings have sought throughout our evolution.
So join Jack, Matt and Penelope as they discuss how the postponement of sport is impacting both them, the people they know and the wider world.
In this episode, Penelope and Philippa are exploring the diverse range of pandemic experiences.
The pandemic is so many things. There’s so much goodness showing up and there’s much to grieve. And just like life, it’s not one ‘thing.’
Even if we had identical lock-down situations, we would still experience them very differently. And perhaps ‘lockdown’ comparisons aren’t always useful. Because we aren’t the same. Our external and internal worlds are so different, and the challenges
From the serious and sad to the lighthearted. From grief, to home schooling, dirty workouts and the pleasure of a tea cosy - can we step-in and embrace this diversity of experiences, within ourselves and in other people?
We’re pleased to welcome back monk and mindfulness coach Danny Hill back. In this episode, Katie is talking to Danny about staying calm in a crisis. Given that Danny has spent several months at a time in self-imposed solitude and silence, at various ashrams and retreats, we thought he’d be the perfect guest to offer advice and insight that can help us through this period of uncertainty. Many of us around the world right now find ourselves in lock-down and are dealing with varying degrees of challenge and change. So in this episode, Danny offers advice around mindful breathing, staying in the moment and enjoying the blossoms of spring.
In this episode, Penelope and Katie are laughing about some of the not-so-glamorous realities of being in lock-down and talking about how this situation is forcing us to re-think our lives, our priorities and our goals. Across the course of their conversation, they discuss the new-normal, the potential for long-term lock-down, the so-called ‘gifts’ in this situation and whether or not Penelope should get a dog.
Whether in normal life or in a crisis as human beings we will all suffer loss. And that may be loss of a loved one, or it may be loss of a routine or a job or loss of meeting a friend. It’s all loss. And we have very different ways of coping. So in this episode, Penelope and Philippa take a light hearted look at a difficult subject during a difficult time. Even in the moments of loss we can find growth, insights, strength and even humour.
Many of us find ourselves in a situation of working from home. Now whether you typically work from home or not, it’s likely that the home-working circumstances we usually find ourselves in vs what we are now dealing with now, are somewhat different. Whether that’s because we have school-age children at home or because others in our home are now sharing the home-work space (who usually don’t!) - let’s think about what these challenges might be and what’s important in a home-working time of crisis!
From loo roll to love are we aware of response patterns in a crisis? And how might we become more conscious of these response patterns so we can choose the response that is going to best serve us in the situations we find ourselves in? Whether its resilience in work or relationships 4D are passionate about creating healthy response patterns in a virtual world.
Episode 25 is all about anger. Anger is a natural response to feelings of embarrassment, disappointment or betrayal. Yet, many of us see anger as a negative response that we should try to hide and suppress. So in this episode Penelope and Philippa look at anger as a gift—a natural, internal signal that often identifies opportunities for healing and growth. Anger is sending us a message, it’s our internal system telling us something.
So, how can we listen to our anger and understand it’s lessons?
Our modern world stems from dreams – dreams turned into reality. So if we want to help shape the experience of ours and other people's lives, we have to value the dreaming stage in any project, decision or relationship. Of course, dreaming comes more easily to some of us than others, so in this episode, Katie and Penelope discuss ways to overcome dream blockers and look at how we can build our capacity to dream. Your reality starts from the essence of your dreams and the dreams of those close to you, so start living from your dreams today – with your whole being- and watch as your fantasies turn into your reality.
We’re delighted to have meditation and mindfulness coach Danny Hill (aka 'The Monk on a Motorbike') back on the show. In this episode, we’re talking about bringing mindful awareness into our everyday lives. Living with Mindful awareness is being fully aware and tuned in to what is going on right now, in the present moment. But as Danny and Katie discuss this is much easier said than done as it can be all too easy to go through life on autopilot, caught up thinking about past events or planning for the future. So how might we overcome some of the challenges many of us will have experienced with mindfulness? And how might this transform our experience of life- without necessarily changing anything tangible at all?

Instead of blaming another person in a relationship, can we turn the mirror on ourselves in order to uncover what we might be rejecting in ourselves? In this funny and light-hearted podcast, Penelope and Philippa turn the mirror on themselves and lean into triggers their triggers. What might we learn when we see our attitudes and behaviours reflected back at us?
Join Penelope and Philippa, as they humbly and openly discuss the relationships we have with our ‘self'.
Developing and perhaps deepening the relationship you have with your 'self' can be a challenge in today’s non-stop, 24/7, instant gratification society. So in this podcast, Philippa and Penelope talk about the ways we can overcome some of these difficulties in our lives and how we can learn to appreciate the most important relationship in all of our lives: the one we’re having with ourself.
In this episode of the 4D Human Being Podcast, Stephanie Kasen and Katie Churchman are talking about acting “as if.” Acting "as if" doesn't mean you have to be fake or inauthentic. It's about changing your behaviour or language and trusting that the feelings will follow. As long as your motivation is in the right place, and you stay connected to your truth, acting “as if” can help your goals become your reality. Just make sure you're interested in changing yourself on the inside, not simply trying to change other people's perceptions of you. So instead of “fake it until you make it” we like to say, “be it to become it.” Be the thing you want to be, start running before you can walk, and step into a new way of being and experiencing yourself and your life.
In this episode, Penelope Waller, Stephanie Kasen and Katie Churchman talk about the challenges of working remotely and being part of an international team. As facilitators and coaches at 4D Human Being, they regularly find themselves travelling all over the world for work. However, the 4D team also live in different parts of the world as well, with bases in Milan, London, Charlotte and New York. So a couple of weeks ago, when the trio was running a workshop together in New Jersey, they took the opportunity to record a podcast and speak honestly about the challenges and rewards of working from home, travelling for work and staying connected as an international team.
There are many benefits to moving abroad: you may get to embrace new opportunities, perhaps learn a new language and experience the sights, sounds, traditions and flavours of a very different culture.
However, moving abroad also comes with its challenges.
In April 2018, Etna International asked 500 expats: ‘has your sense of identity changed since living abroad?’, ‘do you like yourself more?’ as well as other questions related to the psychological impact of settling into a new culture. The survey revealed that 35% of expats surveyed said their sense of identity had changed
So, in this episode Katie Churchman and Penelope Waller discuss the challenges, changes and joys that come from moving abroad.
In this episode we’ve got both of the Waller sisters on the show at the same time talking about relationship patterns. As identical twin sisters Philippa and Penelope Waller know a lot about understanding the self through relationship. And the truth is that whether we or not we are a twins, in a romantic partnership, or on only child, we are always in relationship. And always have been. We are shaped by the relationships we are in because we do not live in a bubble. We exist within two contexts, the environment and our shared culture. Today’s episode consider how the people in our lives and the relational patterns we form with them are constantly shaping who we are and who we will become. To quote Jacob Moreno, one of the 20th century’s foremost advocates of human interaction defined his fellow human beings as the following: “Man is a relational being.”
In this episode Philippa Waller is talking with Anna Melville-James about portfolio identity, or rather the ‘what do you do’ question.
Anna Melville-James has been a travel writer for 20 years, writing and editing on national papers and magazines. She also helped to set up the Daily Mail’s first ever travel website in 2001. These days she is also...a podcaster on women in business, a journalist with particular interest in later life, environmental issues and the English countryside, a copywriter for luxury brands and a professional face painter. Just to make things really confusing when she tries to explain what she does for a living.
The question “What do you do?” has basically become synonymous with “Who are you?” And it can be helpful way of quickly giving others a snapshot of who we are and what we do. But there’s also a dark side to introducing ourselves with this kind of shorthand: because labels can lead to stereotypes.
In this episode Katie Churchman talks with Danny Hill (aka The Monk on a Motorbike) about meditation and mindfulness. Danny is a meditation teacher and mindfulness and happiness coach who is helping people around the planet make sense of meditation.
Danny is a passionate advocate of mindfulness as a powerful yet simple and accessible tool for personal transformation. He is keen to explain this is a straightforward holistic practice that brings greater awareness to every aspect of our lives and with it a sense of calm and joy.
A former Buddhist monk, he has spent long periods on silent, intensive meditation retreats in Asia and the UK and has been practicing meditation since 1995.
Danny Hill lives in London, loves to get around on his motorbike, and is known to his friends and students as the ‘Monk on a Motorbike’. He also hosts a podcast of the same name.

In episode 14, Katie Churchman and Philippa Waller explore our shadow selves: the parts of self that we shy away from admitting and sharing with the world. This episode is all about understanding and embracing our shadow sides in order to step into a more whole and balanced way of being. Our shadow side doesn’t have to stay in the dark: it can be an asset for stepping into a much more rounded, accepting and open way of being.
As Carl Jung writes in Psychology and Alchemy: “There is no light without shadow and no psychic wholeness without imperfection.”
In this episode, Katie Churchman and Philippa Waller continue their exploration into the stories we tell ourselves. Remember: you are not your thoughts. And you are not your stories.
We cannot determine life events – they are a given – but you are not defined by them either. The proof is that people faced with similar tragedies have often shaped themselves very different destinies. This was done through the decisions they made and the stories they created. Becoming more conscious of the stories playing out in our lives empowers us with the ability to choose our response to any given set of circumstances; to choose our life rather than undergo it helplessly. It’s the only way our future can be different from our past.
In this episode Philippa Waller and Claire Galmiche flip the fear of dying on it’s head by exploring the ways in which a fear of living can hold us back and stop us from really living the lives that we want to lead…
In this episode Katie Churchman talks with Felicity Bown about career challenge and change. Felicity is a business development manager at a large multi national. After a highly successful career at a specialised publishing firm, Felicity moved into a large corporation looking for a career change. And she’s been speedily climbing the corporate ladder ever since. However, as with all change, the career move presented its own challenges...
This episode is for anyone who has or is currently dealing with difficulties at work whether that’s due to purpose, motivation or isolation. In this episode we discuss a range of topics including:
-The ever elusive concept of work life balance
-How to blend your passions into your work
-How to shape a positive professional persona? For both yourself and others
-And how to stretch yourself into new ways of being, in order to change your experience of work.
In this episode Katie Churchman and Penelope Waller explore how our everyday journeys reflect the way we live our lives. Many of us live our lives rushing from A to B, so much so that we often miss the beautiful journey along the way. How can we reshape our relationships with journeys so that we can live with more purpose and meaning in the everyday? And how might we see our journeys as a destination in their own right?
In this episode Katie and Philippa talk about becoming the author of your own life ’story.’ Life is “happening” to a lot of people. It may even be “happening” to you. And if you like what’s happening then that’s great. However, we're sure many of you reading this might not be so happy about the “happenings.” And if so you might want to consider changing the story. Because the stories you tell yourself hugely impact your experience of life. What stories are no longer serving you? And what stories would you like to be telling instead?
In this episode Philippa and Katie discuss Grace Hopper’s famous axiom: “It’s better to beg forgiveness than ask permission.” Is it really better to beg forgiveness? The advantages to acting first apologising later, are that it encourages autonomy, creativity and innovative thinking. However, it can also lead to egotistic and self-centred behaviour. In contrast, asking for permission can be limiting, slow and frustrating. Yet, it's also a behaviour that considers the wider impact of one’s actions. How can we hold this paradox and operate from both of these value sets, in order to better serve ourselves, our loved ones and our wider communities?
In this episode Philippa has a fun, engaging and insightful chat with ballroom dancing partners Michael and Nika Foskett. Among a plethora of national and international awards, Michael and Nika are are the World under 21 Ballroom Champions. They now compete together in the Amateur category and are regular international quarterfinalists, as well as national finalists.
Together Philippa, Michael and Nika discuss the art of being a ballroom couple, business partners and husband and wife. They explore the analogies of dance with life and being human. From the art of collaboration, partnership, give-and-take and the sensitivity to know exactly what each other want and need in any given moment. From there they deep dive into the amazing parallels between ballroom dancing and life, leadership and love. Discovering that there is so much that Latin and ballroom dancing can teach us to Live our lives more fully. That sometimes to get to the next level in our relationships, our lives and our career it might be a question of letting go, releasing and trusting yourself. Because there comes a point in a world champion ballroom dancer’s life - as there comes a point in all our lives - when stressing, tensing and trying hard might not be your best strategy to get the next level. If you’ve ever struggled in a partnership or collaboration, if you feel you’ve hit a roadblock in your life or career, if you find you try hard and get stressed yet don’t seem to get to where you want to get to or if you simply love the world of dance… Join us as we dance our way through life with Michael and Nika.

Join us as we ‘mind the gap’ and consider the everyday gaps that show up on social media, in our value sets and throughout our working lives.
In this episode Katie Churchman and Philippa Waller take a look at blueprints, the psychological maps that underpin who we are and what we do. Why is it so hard to break free of certain behavioural patterns? And how can we learn to manage these blueprints, so that they don't end up managing us?
In this episode Penelope Waller and Katie Churchman consider the idea of legacy, past, present and future. This is all about becoming aware and conscious of the tiny legacies that you give and the macro legacies that you live. Whether we realise it or not, we are all giving, living and receiving legacy. So what are the legacies that define your life? And what legacies would you like to leave behind?
In this episode Katie Churchman and Penelope Waller consider the little thing in life. The small, simple moments that differentiate one day from the next. To quote the wonderful words of Annie Dillard: “‘How we spend our days is of course how we spend our lives.” In our pursuit of life’s so-called 'big moments' we can all too easily miss all the lovely, little details along the way. So join us on this joyous and and heart-warming journey towards the simple things in life.
