1940, Los Angeles. Openly gay private eye Dash Malone discovers Plink, his recently deceased lover, had been hiding secrets to a supernatural world. Now this detective must balance adventures, such as stopping a reanimated mummy, aiding an invisible man, and uncovering the secrets to a mad scientist's lab; with the run of the mill cases a private eye tackles like catching the random cheating spouse with their pants down. With a society that rejects this PI for who he is, Dash must learn to trust his friends enough to help him, and by doing so he might discover a power that’s hiding inside of him. A power that could help him find his way back to his long lost love.

Decades ago, DARPA abandoned the research vessel USS Horus somewhere in the Atlantic. All information on the ship, and its role in the creation of superheroes, was erased. Except for the memories of one Captain Crowe.
A Hail Mary at the end of the line, Roxxie asks Crowe to take her to the condemned vessel. Quarterbag Life Insurance was on the ship, and any trace of them could lead her to Captain Wraythe’s body.
Instead, she finds a military drone, and is welcomed with a missile barrage.
Roxxie awakens on the USS Horus, Captain Crowe nowhere to be found. Her only company is a voice on the ship’s PA system. And that voice is Roxx Populi’s biggest fan.
For the first time in years, Roxxie is truly on her own. Now she’s forced to face not just a manic fanboy, but the fallout of her own celebrity.

Exhaust is a dark, intimate play set during the early years of the Holocaust. Over the course of a single drive, two Nazi drivers talk, argue, joke, and circle around the reality of what they are doing. What begins as routine conversation slowly reveals a much more dangerous landscape beneath it: fear, guilt, survival, cruelty, and the desperate need to keep functioning inside a system built on murder.
As the journey continues, their sharply different ways of coping begin to collide. One buries himself in detachment and procedure; the other is haunted by memory and unable to fully look away. Their exchanges shift from mundane to menacing, from bitterly funny to deeply unsettling, exposing not only the machinery of violence around them but the fragile, compromised humanity still flickering inside it.
Tense, claustrophobic, and morally unflinching, Exhaust confronts the banality of evil head-on. It is a play about what people do to survive, what they choose not to see, and what it costs to keep moving forward when stopping feels impossible.

Supernova is both a fanciful and autobiographical tale, based upon Liza’s real experience losing multiple family members to suicide and cancer. Expressed through her playing multiple characters, various genres of musical numbers (including but not limited to country, pop, R & B, and funk), and humor that perfectly juxtaposes the seriousness of the poignant thematic elements.
The show’s heroine shares the same name as the actress who plays her. However, in this dimension Liza belongs to a family of superheroes tasked with the very large feat of saving the world. Unlike the rest of the members of her family, at the top of the show, Liza is the only member who doesn’t have any superpowers yet. She’s merely equipped with a positive attitude and an uncanny ability to find joy in even the smallest things and darkest moments.
With no cure or anecdote in sight, the family’s mission is to discover the causes of an “emotional pandemic” sweeping the globe that results in people losing their will to live and “self-destructing”. The family’s adventure of saving the world is intrinsically linked with Liza’s personal journey of self-acceptance and becoming who she truly is.
On March 1st, Liza got the all too familiar call that another brother had died by suicide. Of her four brothers, three of them have taken their lives; joined in death by their mother and stepmother, who both passed away of differing cancers 15 years apart. Seemingly compelled by something greater than herself, Liza could no longer keep silent about her intimate experiences with death, grief, trauma, and mental health. Within months, a series of events, people, and opportunities serendipitously unfolded resulting in a one woman mental health musical comedy. What began as a small whisper of a desire to share her family’s story and possibly impact the taboo nature with which suicide and emotional well-being are currently regarded in society, quickly snowballed into a much bigger conversation about happiness, spirituality, and one’s ability to withstand the uncontrollable and unfair, but inherent, challenges of life. The show closes with a finale song that perfectly encapsulates the theme and message of the musical: What makes life worth living? Do more of THAT!

Essa didn’t ask for rumors to follow her like gum stuck to the bottom of her shoe. However, being known as ‘Oblivion Girl: Destroy of Cities’ was a rumor she could sink her teeth into. With the help of her sidekick, Atticus, the two were doing just fine hunting bounties, fighting pirates, and arguing with Gypsies. And she didn’t even mind when Alita joined the group—even though they constantly fought. This was all, of course, before she knew her brother Eden was still alive. But it wasn’t just Eden she needed to worry about. Sure, he may be the commander in the elite squad of military kill machines, but he was still the brother she knew and loved. Wasn’t he? Now, along with her group of trigger-happy outcasts, they must fight for their lives if they want to win the war against Eden. Will Essa keep her reputation as the #1 bounty hunter, or will she lose everything when facing an opponent more powerful than herself? Transcript:

The Romcom Formula is a scripted romantic comedy audio series about love, control, and what happens when someone who knows romance a little too well decides to play matchmaker in real life. Shannon, a romance audiobook narrator, believes every great love story follows a formula. Armed with trope expertise and good intentions, she secretly sets out to orchestrate a romcom for her overworked sister, Claire, by engineering meet-cutes, forced proximity, and just enough chaos to spark chemistry with Tony, the charming handyman next door. As Claire and Tony’s connection deepens, the cracks in Shannon’s plan begin to show. Careers shift, long-distance love tests their bond, and real life refuses to follow a tidy three-act structure. Set against family dynamics, creative ambition, and a wink at romance culture itself, The Romcom Formula asks whether love is something you can manufacture—or only stumble into when you stop trying so hard. The award-winning Spectral Silhouette Radio Show is a musical audio drama/podcast produced in the Chicagoland area by Henry Scherrer and Matt Winkelman. It combines the pulpy noir spirit of programs from the golden age of radio with modern sensibilities and style. Part comedy, part mystery, all fun, Silhouette is a labor of love from a great group of actors, musicians, and crew members. The show is performed live every two months and both nights sell out within hours, sometimes minutes. We have a full stage production with an audio engineer, sound effects engineer, fifteen actors, and a jazz band with horns. It's a one of a kind experience, mixing the feel of a jazz club with a stage show full of mystery, laughs, ghosts and more. Our show has grown a lot over the years. What started as a one off production became twenty six episodes, four minisodes and forty two original songs. We even have our own beer, Puzzle Club (a delicious ruby rye ale), from the fine people at Skeleton Key Brewery. We are now on our fourth season, and look forward to producing more installments in the years to come.

Twelve-year-old Nils Olsen lives in the coastal town of Svendborg in Denmark with his sensible but unremarkable parents. His life is orderly and predictable, and excitement is in short supply—until his eccentric and largely withdrawn grandfather, who lives in the family’s garden shed, gives Nils an unexpected birthday present.
The gift is a ship. Well, not a ship exactly, but the materials to build one: weathered planks, timber, and an idea that borders on the impossible.
Reluctantly, Nils’s parents agree to let him and his grandfather work on the project in the garden, certain it will be short-lived. They assume the scale of the task will overwhelm him and that the ship will never be finished.
They are wrong.
As the vessel takes shape, Nils discovers a determination he didn’t know he possessed, and what begins as an unlikely construction project becomes the first step toward a life-changing adventure.
The full score of the Captain Skimp series grew out of more than fifteen years of live, improvised storytelling with children aged 4–12. Through his part time work—first in kindergarten and later as a schoolteacher—Jonas Præst Nielsen recorded over 300 sessions, letting characters, worlds, and stories emerge naturally through play and interaction with the children. This improvisational process became the creative backbone of the series. As Nielsen says, “I didn’t write the story—the characters did.”
Jonas Præst Nielsen is a Danish composer and musician who later expanded into writing and storytelling. His musical background shapes the series’ distinctive music, rhythms and cinematic sound universe. For his Cinematic Audiobooks, he has received several grants from the Danish Arts Foundation, AUTOR, and KODA, supporting productions that combine artistic authenticity with a high, technical quality of sound design.

"Madison on the Air" is a full cast, scripted comedy audio drama that follows the 20-something makeup blogger, Madison Standish, who was zapped from modern day into oldtime radio dramas (through some “freaky-deaky science-stuff”... we don’t exactly know how). With a deep love of the genre, Chrisi Talyn Saje adapts original radio drama scripts from the 1930s-1950s to include the fun-loving, mocha latte drinking, guy crazy, woke culture devotee Madison. Each episode is stand-alone featuring a different old time radio series with a wide variety of genres to choose from including detective noir, westerns, superheroes, sci-fi, horror, comedies and classic films. Madison may be partnered up with Sherlock Holmes, or Marshal Matt Dillon, stepping in as Batman’s Boy Wonder, fighting Martians, battling Dracula, or donning the ruby slippers over the rainbow. All in fun, Madison serves to highlight the way we were and the way we are today, bringing the Golden Age of Radio to modern audiences. Dishonour on Your Cow is a story-telling with comedic twists about the struggles in keeping up with other's expectations while making sense of the world, despite the childhood traumas and facing fear of abandonment heads on. People silence her and make her watch from the sidelines as she desperately tries to pick up the pieces. Funny, dark, emotional, and true; a journey to self acceptance, recovery, and the discovery that the most fulfilling life she can lead is by her own merit, not set by others who try to curate it. She tells stories, jokes, and sings.

Chris Smith’s “Mine for the Tribe” is a one person show that recognizes the ups and downs of the artistic temperament. Personal stories about the artist journey and wisdom from some books lead to a realization about the fate and hope for artists. Playing multiple characters, Chris jumps through his history as an artist bookworm and, well, grows up at 43. Directed by Atim Udoffia, this show is funny, tragic and hopeful enough to call it a very entertaining sermon.

Rocking out with... . Hebert Hoover? BELIEVE IT.
By Pat Strait
There aren’t enough great writers challenging the way we consume content and staying true to the idea that audio is one of the greatest art forms we’ve got. A concept album, which immerses the listener in Americana, that drives you to listen to an audio drama, which transports you to a different era, is something that very few people could dream up, let alone execute on to this level.
What Will Anderson has created here is a seriously cool way to reignite our imaginations.

Rocking out with... . Hebert Hoover? BELIEVE IT.
By Pat Strait
A Herbert Hoover concept album? About a Herbert Hoover audio drama? I have a few thoughts:
1) Is there any medium that CAN’T be conquered by Will “the Hoover Maniac” Anderson?
2) Why aren’t there concept albums anymore?
3) In an age where it feels like everything creative has been done before, this is totally fun, unique and really, really cool.

In a medieval fantasy tale, a group of adventurers recount how they met the elf in their party, as she needed humans to help her make contact with a fellow elf living in a human city. Upon all of them arriving at the city gates, the elf discovers the mistrust and suspicion humans have for her just because she is different and strange to them. Further, it turns out that her contact has been kidnapped, and the local Criminal Collective is unwilling to help because she didn’t pay her “protection money”. The group discovers the kidnappers have taken the city elf because they believe she can make an ancient fire wand function, due to their belief she is a “magical elf”. The magic dabbler in the hero’s group arranges for a meeting with the kidnappers under the guise of promising to make the wand work in exchange for the kidnapped hostage. The two groups meet in an abandoned fighting arena, where the fire wand is demonstrated to work to great effect, and is exchanged for the hostage elf. Upon parting, the kidnappers attempt to use the wand on the group, but it fails, and the heroes make their escape. It is later explained by the magic dabbler that the fire wand had a finite number of spells it could call upon, and the demonstration exhausted its supply of magic and the wand became inert, allowing the group to escape with the hostage. Around the fireside, where this story is being told by the elf, she reflects upon her first encounter with humans, some meeting her with suspicion, fear, and hatred, but with this particular group, she found noble virtues in all of them, despite they themselves being outcasts, of a sort, in their own human world.

"Face of Many Beasts" is an episode of the anthology audio horror series "Thorn Creek." It tells the story of Elizabeth, a young girl living in a puritanical village. At the age of 10, she witnesses a goat give birth to an offspring with three heads. Fearing it is an omen, her mother and father discard the creature in a river and swear her to secrecy. Years later, now 18, Elizabeth is betrothed to Jeremiah, a 40-year old polygamist landowner as part of a deal struck with her mother and father. She confides in her best friend, Sarah, that she would much rather flee the village than go through with the next day's wedding. Sarah jokingly suggests that she fake demonic possession in order to get out of it. Elizabeth wanders into the woods where she comes upon a now fully grown three-headed goat. She gets lost following the creature until Sarah finds her and takes her back home. The next day, the village gathers in the church for the wedding. Sarah accuses Elizabeth of being a witch, having seen her summon a three-headed creature in the woods. When Elizabeth claims it was just a goat born in the family barn years ago, her parents deny the story. Suddenly, Jeremiah collapses. The priest and various townspeople are absorbed into him through touch and the growing chunk of flesh and bone morphs into a hideous beast. Elizabeth runs home and hides in the barn, where the morphed beast finds her. She shoots the monster with her father's rifle. Elizabeth flees into the woods, and once again, finds the three-headed goat, whom she realizes is just a peaceful creature. She decides to follow the river, leaving the village behind into an uncertain future.

In this episode of Faust in Wonderland, "Faust, Kafka, and Stuart Little Walk Into A Bar!" we take both a darker and lighter look at mental health. In "Greg's Changed" written by Fauster Joan Lopate, we revisit Kafka’s “Metamorphosis” where a family is thrown into crisis because, seemingly overnight, a member has become unrecognizable, alien to those who were once close to him. Gregor Samsa’s transformation is so bizarre that his family callously rejects and ultimately abandons him. In the Fausters' update to this story, the parallels between Kafka’s 19th century Czech family and a modern American one suggests that family dysfunction is not unique to place and time. With "Emotional Baggage" written by Faust member Celia Bressack, we meet Gabby and Phil, two lovelorn NYC daters who've had their hearts kicked around. They meet for coffee, and while sharing and comparing their neuroses, both are haunted by the voices of their exes. Will they learn to tune them out and find true love? Now, actually public enemy number one, Roxxie faces off with DARPA, a dozen shadow governments, and a few secret cabals, in a scramble for Wraythe’s body – the only means to creating superheroes. She wants the body, mostly, so they can’t have it. As Roxxie puts herself and her loved ones in one tight spot after another, she will be forced to ask herself the tough question: Is she willing to sacrifice her friendships for her own sense of authenticity?

Picture everything that makes your community unique. Are you imagining a quaint, little city? Is there a local radio station that connects citizens from all stripes? Is there, perhaps, a problematic politician? How about your local horse masseur? Romance novelists and alien hunters? Dogged sales folks with healthy libidos? What about someone doing their best when a mystery sets in motion a race against the clock? Whew! That got weirdly specific. But if your community doesn’t have those, allow us to introduce you to Peculiar Springs. When a much-beloved public figure passes away, what do they leave behind? For the employees of local radio station 93.3 WSCP-FM The Scoop, the loss leaves more questions than answers… and plenty of opportunities to make everything worse. The crew is led by Mallory Brimm, an organized optimist… until she’s thrown off-balance; Brandon Bardo, a sarcastic caffeine addict embittered by a fall from grace; Tamryn Woods, an intelligent, yet aloof, intern who would rather build her brand than her resume; and Mackenzie ‘Mack’ Harrison, the rogue underwriter who has kept the lights on. So far. Along the way, the crew will make new enemies and allies, acquaint themselves with their quirky neighbors, encounter the local wildlife, and struggle with the consequences of their loss. Will they lean on each other to preserve what they’ve built or will it all come crashing down? ‘Peculiar Radio,’ the debut production of Lengthy Tangent.

"Salvation: A Gospel Oratorio" tells the unknown story of the Rev. David George & the origins of the Black Baptists Church in North America. Set in the late 1700’s, in the days leading up to the civil war, Rev. George’s escape from Slavery inspired many people to find out the source of his strength of overcome hardship. He built a church community that spread from the American Southern colonies to Nova Scotia, Canada, to Sierra Leone, Africa — but his impact has largely been forgotten today.

Directed by Corey Bradberry and written by Greg Garrison, with original music by Paul Sottnik, the audio play follows Detective Stainless Steel as she trains a new partner facing down deadly criminals while managing a client she’ll never forget: her ex-wife. From racetracks to rooftops, car chases to funerals, A MATTER OF RED HERRINGS is about identity, forgiveness, and the comedy of courage told with its tongue firmly holstered in its cheek. Starring Amy Gorelow and Julian 'joolz' Stroop as the two detectives, this laugh out loud comedy utilizes the gags and thrills of any Golden Age radio play… with the technology of the 21st century.

It's a regular neighbourhood, with regular bungalows, a library, and a field- maybe a little magic. While exploring one day, Edith finds several dozen gnomes behind her late grandfather's house. Meanwhile, Edith's genderfluid Uncle Arnold has returned to the home to prepare it for sale. Together, Edith, Arnold, and the gnomes learn to see their home, their family, and their future in a whole new way. Garden of Edith is the second audio play written by Shannon Kingston and produced by First Ditch Collective. This play is recommended for ages 9 and up and is enjoyable for kids and adults alike. Rich sound brings the neighbourhood, inspired by growing up in Kingston, Ontario, to life. With humour and depth, Garden of Edith explores intergenerational connection, community, and everyday magic.

Davontae Sanford is played by Austin Scott The Reporter is played by Alexa Cepeda Russell/Smothers is played by Austyn Williamson Original music composed and performed by Chaundre Hall-Broomfield Adapted and Directed by Megan Rivkin Sound Design by Ramon Fernandes
Davontae Sanford was arrested at fourteen and coerced into a false confession for a quadruple homicide. He spent nearly nine years in prison before being exonerated. The radio play, named after Davontae's non-profit organization, tells Davontae’s story through interviews, found texts, and poetry. We are pleased to be able to offer the play free of cost on multiple streaming platforms. Davontae's mother, Taminko Sanford-Timon, his lawyers at the Northwestern Center of Wrongful Convictions and the Michigan Innocence Clinic, State police, and many others worked tirelessly towards Davontae's release. In 2016, Davontae's conviction was overturned, and he returned home to his family. Davontae's story is horrifying, but it isn't entirely unique. We invite you to experience Davontae's story with us through his own words, and we hope it serves as a call to action for our listeners.

"Look What A Wonder" is a fictional account of the Denmark Vesey Slave Conspiracy of 1822 in Charleston, South Carolina. The gospel genre work dramatizes the struggle of Denmark Vesey and Pastor Morris Brown to establish the first independent Black Church during the time of slavery in 1818 in Charleston. Protagonist Denmark Vesey is one of about 900 free Blacks among 40,000 enslaved Africans in the city at that time. Both Slave and Free were taught that God ordained the enslavement of Africans and that God also ordained slavery in America. Denmark and Pastor Morris Brown understood that this false doctrine needed to be addressed to their people and that the only way to do that was to establish their own church where they could present to both enslaved Africans and free Negroes a Christianity of empowerment and a Christian freedom theology. Parallel to this arc of the story is the intimate circle of Denmark’s own family. Having won $1500 in the Charleston lottery, Denmark was able to buy his freedom from his master. However, his wife, 8-year-old daughter, and 13-year-old son were the slaves of another master. Denmark‘s life goal was to unite his family as one and he sought to earn enough money to buy their freedom as well. He was a skilled craftsman and ran a very successful carpentry shop, so his dream was not out of reach. Conflicts converged, however, when Vesey and Brown successfully established their first independent Black Church. White slaveholders quickly instituted the requirement that each church gathering be supervised by a White man. After Vesey and Brown rejected this requisite, the slaveholders shut down the church. Simultaneously, Denmark’s efforts to purchase his family's freedom also failed. The independent church under Vesey and Brown’s guidance had been in constant contact with the president of the new free black republic of Haiti, Pierre Boyer. With the sudden and violent closing of their church, congregants insisted that the only way forward was by armed insurrection and by secretly aligning themselves with Haiti. They looked to young Denmark to lead the slave rebellion. However, Rose, Denmark’s wife, wanted Denmark to escape with the family on a ship sailing north and not get involved in what she saw as an intractable and doomed situation. The dramatic flow of the story weaves back-and-forth between these two divergent objectives, building to a crescendo that forces Denmark to make difficult choices.Win 2 Atlanta Fringe tickets! Welcome to the second episode of Ask Deer Abby, Season Three! Abby and Hopper are thrilled to be offering advice (and puns) to some brand new animal friends. First up, we’ve got a capybara named Sara who is NOT looking forward to her friend’s upcoming pool party. Hopefully Abby can encourage Sara to take a leap of faith and dive into the deep end of her insecurities. Next up, it’s the one and only Yaksley, owner of Yaks 5th Avenue, who simply cannot fathom why his store isn’t doing as well recently. Let’s hope Abby can help this distressed yak bring those customers back! Later on, we'll bring in some animal experts to answer the question on everyone's mind: “Do animals wear makeup like humans do?”
Thanks again for listening, and as always, if you've got a problem just stop on by, and we'll say "Hi" at Ask Deer Abby!

The MN State Fair is a highly anticipated event of the Summer- concerts, rides, and of course - food. Attendees walk through the animal barns, often consuming the flesh of the animals they visit. Do you know what (or who) you are eating? "Possible Burger" explores gluttony, and the revenge of the consumed. Features the voices of pigs and sounds of the swine barn from the 2021 MN State Fair, recorded by Nordland herself.
Special When Lit unapologetically pushes the boundaries of storytelling, finding a universal humanity in the weird, the extraordinary and the supernatural. We particularly enjoy using spectacle, blood and emboldened sexuality to create a visceral experience for the audience. Founder, Nissa Nordland Morgan, wrote the audio horror Nisse-Natten, which received praise from the judges of the Atlanta Fringe Audio Festival in 2020. She was awarded the TC Arts Reader Critic’s Choice Award and won the Theatre in the Round Venue Pick for her play "Xena and Gabrielle Smash the Patriarchy". Nordland is an alum of the Brave New Workshop Comedy Theatre, a member of the Playwright Cabal, company member of Theatre Pro Rata, and the Artistic Director of the Twin Cities Horror Festival.

A podcast play about women of different spiritual practices, ages, and races making a weekly podcast in which they share recipes from the culinary traditions of their faith, including--in this episode--"pot shabbat". The podcast veers in an unexpected direction when one of the hosts is publicly cast out of her evangelical church the day before from the pulpit by the "local celebrity pastor" and accused of being a witch for her participation in both podcast and because of her "Christian mom-gig" as a Young Life representative for essential oils.

"No one would have believed in the first years of the 21st century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than our own..." H.G. Wells enters the 21st century as a Chicagoland science journalist thrust into the events of an alien invasion after a meteor from the “Red Planet” Mars crashes outside the suburbs of Chicago at the start of the new decade. Separated from family, friends and everything they’ve ever known, A Theater in the Dark cooks in signature style as actors bring a cast of eclectic Chicagoland characters to life as they do everything in their power to survive as our world comes crashing down around them. As the Martians reveal their deadly Heat-Ray and their true intentions, whirling our characters into hair-raising chases across Chicago one question remains: is life on Earth doomed? This audio adventure originally connected actors broadcasting live each night across 5,500 miles to audiences in real time for Halloween 2021.

They say modern problems require modern solutions. But if the Googles are not serving up the answers you seek, perhaps the answers lie somewhere else entirely—somewhere beyond this haughty, mortal plane. As it so happens, there is an entity that specializes in this very thing—connecting modern seekers with long-deceased voices from the past. And so we find ourselves a fly nestled within the decaying flesh wall of Hell, spying on the classified archives of the entrepreneurial demonic endeavor known as Healing Answers and Necromancy Delivered—or H.A.N.D. if you’re a fan of brevity. Chase the White Whale with Captain Ahab!
After losing his leg in pursuit of the devilish white whale Moby Dick, Captain Ahab vows vengeance at all costs, but to what lengths will he turn to seek that vengeance——and at what cost to his crew? Created by one of Chicago's most innovative theatre groups, and originally broadcast live across 5,500 miles, A Theater in the Dark invites you to turn off your screen and crank up your speakers as you come with us into the dark… In this 75-minute audio adventure, A Theater in the Dark cooks up with signature style its adaptation of Herman Melville's MOBY DICK. The original production was hailed as "brilliantly adapted" (Around the Town Chicago) with "some of the best, most evocative writing I've heard from a theater this year" (Chicago Sun-Times), "wonderful versatile performances" (WDCB Radio), and a "haunting" (Buzz Center Stage) original score.
A WHITE WHALE, OR: MOBY DICK is audio theatre, performed entirely without visuals; combining the human voice, recorded sound, live Foley effects, and an original musical score, to tell the story.
