Paul Grant Truesdell, J.D., AIF 0:02
Well, this will be the last public episode of Connecting Dots. It's been an awful lot of fun as well as a tremendous learning experience. When it comes to podcasting, well on a regular basis we've been doing Connecting Dots. But you see, it's not really ending. Instead of Connecting Dots will be limited to clients of Fixed Cost Financial. If you're interested in learning more about what we're doing, you can take a look at the show notes where we will explain exactly what's going on with Connecting Dot. Now, with that said, here's a brief summary.
Paul Grant Truesdell, J.D., AIF 0:38
We examined and experimented with over 160 episodes, different ways to provide information to you and then of course of doing that we discovered that, well, some people like short other people like it long so in other words, short episodes versus long deep dives and everything in between. We took a lot of time to discuss with a wide variety of people what it is that they like and didn't like our conclusion was really simple. The overwhelming majority of those who listen to podcast like it short, sweet and to the point, and so we had to make a decision as to who is our audience and how are we going to deal with the audience. We came to a simple conclusion that most people need to have us help them in the Minting of Millionaire Mindsets as their priority and goal in life.
Paul Grant Truesdell, J.D., AIF 1:33
Minting Millionaire Mindsets is something that I have talked about and developed over the course of 30 years. And so I decided I'm going to share it now with everyone.
Paul Grant Truesdell, J.D., AIF 1:46
I can tell you without any doubt or hesitation that if you have the right mindset, you can achieve a whole lot more in life than if you have some other type of mindset, and again, it always comes down to a mindset. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is for people to get their act together and to understand how important it is to stay focused and centered on yourself and to understand what we call the five components of wealth. And what we have here is important. And I can tell you, it has worked for me and it will work for you.
Paul Grant Truesdell, J.D., AIF 2:25
Now, if you're a client of ours, I encourage you to listen to this again Minting Millionaire Mindsets. And as a client, you're going to enjoy the exclusive benefits of Connecting Dot. Now because you're a client, you already have more than likely achieved the Minting of Millionaire Mindsets. And you'll notice that we use the word mindsets as a plural rather than as a singular because Minting Millionaire Mindsetds is multifaceted.
Paul Grant Truesdell, J.D., AIF 2:57
For example, you know, we've talked a lot about physical illness and people who have no intellectual capability but the world centers on the mindset. You can be physically challenged, you can be intellectually challenged. But if you have mentored a millionaire mindset, you're going to achieve a whole lot more than those who are physically gifted and intellectually gifted. Now the key components of wealth are in the order of importance, physical, emotional, intellectual, relationships, and financial and you'll notice that the very end is financial. The most important component for most people is the one that is least important to most people again, physical wealth trumps everything. And if you're feeling physically wealthy, and you're overwhelmed by the controlling forces out there that you feel like you don't have control over always remember you control the overwhelming majority of your wealth.
Paul Grant Truesdell, J.D., AIF 3:56
Now look, I get it. There are some people who are challenged at birth, there are victims of accidents, illnesses, acts of violence. But generally speaking, most people are in lousy shape because they didn't stay in shape. It's your own fault. They didn't stay in shape because they didn't Mint a Millionaire Mindset. When it comes to physical wealth, all the money in the world is not going to keep you from dying. And if you live this lifestyle, like so many do, where one doesn’t do anything, well, it's pretty tough. We're going to be tough on you, but because I don't know you we’re having this conversation and you're listening. If you got upset by that you've got a real problem. But I do know one thing is absolutely true. This is going to be the most powerful, impactful thing on a lot of people's lives, not Connecting Dots, that’s the refinement is like taking that diamond and polishing it and cutting it into a just a beautiful marquee cut, but for now, here's the thing. It's Minting Millionaire Mindsets.
Paul Grant Truesdell, J.D., AIF 4:55
In the last three to four years, I have spent a tremendous amount of time reacquainting myself with men and women from border-to-border, coast-to-coast, and all walks of life, background income, race, sex, national origin, occupation didn't make any difference. And I can tell you those who have Minted their Millionaire Mindsets, well, they make it and those who don't, don't.
Paul Grant Truesdell, J.D., AIF 5:18
So Connecting Dots has been an absolute ball. But there's no doubt that we had a lot of fun doing it. And we're going to continue but it's over the head of most people, don't get upset with that. Because if you get upset with that you lack emotional maturity to get ahead and Connecting Dots is designed to challenge and really get into some hardcore issues that you got to deal with first things first, which is Minting Millionaire Mindsets. Again, we're going to restrict Connecting Dots predominantly to clients. And now with that said, once a month we'll share what we're talking about connecting dots with non-clients. There'll be a summary and you can kind of see what goes on. Now what we will not do, however, share an entire episode or segments rather, what we'll do is we'll review the highlight and concepts we talked about. And frankly, it'll be a teaser for you to become a client.
Paul Grant Truesdell, J.D., AIF 6:08
So if you want to become a client, what do you do is go to FixedCostFinancial.com and follow the instructions and the way we do it, it's better because it's simple and works. Because when you have a true fiduciary in your corner that's affordable, accessible and transparent, you've got a winning combination. If you're actually in the game, and you're ready to step up and your view of yourself, yourself as a lifestyle where business is a lifestyle. Well, if you've got that mindset, and you found a home here at Fixed Cost Financial and Minting Millionaire Mindsets is ideal for those want to achieve and retain their status in life. And when you listen to upcoming Connecting Dots, the deep dives that we're going to go into you're going to say well, I'll be darned. How about that. So with that, continue with us with Connecting Dots. It's simple if you're a client. And the way we do it, it's better because it's simple and works full transparency, full accessibility and affordability. But regardless, you've got to have and continue to do what we call Minting Millionaire Mindsets.
Paul Grant Truesdell, J.D., AIF 7:18
So thank you for joining us for over 160 episodes. I look forward to you joining us as a prospective or actual client as we continue this journey. We're going to make a detour now we're going to start rolling out Minting Millionaire Mindsets, the 3M podcasts are here, and it doesn't get any better than this.

No Easy Money
Making, spending, saving, investing, this money stuff isn’t easy. No kidding. We know it, understand it, and get it. The bottom line is this, if you are not financially independent, then you need to do one or a combination of three things: make more, spend less, adjust your expectations, Even though it’s easy for us, it’s not for 95% of the U.S. population. For every 100,000 Americans, there are approximately 295 medical doctors, 40 lawyers nationwide (788 in DC, 90 in New York, and 64 in Maryland), 203 CPAs, 400 accountants, 63 financial analysts, and 15 investment advisor representatives. We are a true fiduciary-based investment advisor and that makes us a very rare breed. If you are a bit confused as to what an investment advisor is, don’t worry, you’re at the right place. We’ll make sure you know what a true-fiduciary based investment advisor is and is not.

Show Notes
If you haven’t heard about hydrogen and fuel cells before, then listen up. These technologies are bursting on to the scene and have the potential to solve some of the biggest problems in energy ranging from commercial buildings to transportation.
And, while most people are more familiar with solar, wind and battery power, keep your eye on these up-and-coming technologies that could add to our nation’s diverse energy mix.
Here are five things to know about hydrogen and fuel cells.
Hydrogen is an alternative fuel that has very high energy content by weight. It’s locked up in enormous quantities in water, hydrocarbons, and other organic matter. Hydrogen can be produced from diverse, domestic resources including fossil fuels, biomass, and water electrolysis with wind, solar, or grid electricity. The environmental impact and energy efficiency of hydrogen depends on how it is produced.
Hydrogen and fuel cells can be used in a broad range of applications. These range from powering buildings, cars, trucks, to portable electronic devices and backup power systems. Because fuel cells can be grid-independent, they’re also an attractive option for critical load functions such as data centers, telecommunications towers, hospitals, emergency response systems, and even military applications for national defense.
Fuel cells are similar to batteries in that they produce electricity without combustion or emissions. Unlike batteries, fuel cells do not run down or need to recharge—as long as there’s a constant source of fuel and oxygen. Compared to conventional gasoline vehicles, fuel cell vehicles can even reduce carbon dioxide by up to half if the hydrogen is produced by natural gas and by 90%, if the hydrogen is produced by renewable energy, such as wind and solar. There are also no pollutants emitted from the tailpipe—just water!
Similar to today’s gasoline vehicles, fuel cell electric cars can have a driving range of more than 300 miles on one tank of hydrogen fuel. They can refuel in just a few minutes and the fueling experience is almost identical to a gas station. Since the “engine” (i.e., fuel cell) has no moving parts, you’ll never need to change the oil. But because a fuel cell is more than twice as efficient as an internal combustion engine, a fuel cell car travels farther on that tank of hydrogen than a traditional car would on gasoline. This means you only need about half the amount of hydrogen, with double the fuel economy.
More than 30 public retail hydrogen fueling stations are online in California, with plans to install 100. There are also several stations ready to open up in the Northeast. With careful planning, the focus has been to add hydrogen mostly at existing gasoline stations. These efforts are giving early fuel cell car adopters’ confidence that they can drive normally and have access to hydrogen wherever they go within these regions. Efforts are also underway in Hawaii, with other markets expected to develop as consumer demand increases.

This Money Stuff Isn’t Easy
No kidding. We know that. Even though it’s easy for us, it’s not for 95% of the U.S. population. Per 100,000 Americans, there are approximately 295 medical doctors, 40 lawyers nationwide (788 in DC, 90 in New York, and 64 in Maryland), 203 CPAs, 400 accountants, 63 financial analysts, and 15 investment advisor representatives.

And, while most people are more familiar with solar, wind and battery power, keep your eye on these up-and-coming technologies that could add to our nation’s diverse energy mix.
Here are five things to know about hydrogen and fuel cells.
1. Hydrogen is the most abundant element on earth.
2. Fuel cells can be used to power several applications.
3. Fuel cells are a clean way to produce power.
4. Fuel cell cars are very similar to traditional gasoline-powered cars.
5. There are more than 30 commercial hydrogen stations in California today.

Moreover, so, if you happen to be a bit confused as to what an investment advisor is, don’t worry, you’re at the right place. We’ll make sure you know what a true-fiduciary based investment advisor is and how rare we are.

Life isn’t easy. It never has been and never will be. People become sick, injured, and die. Deal with it. Productively deal with your feelings in a positive way. Stop the pity party. Time doesn’t heal everything. Instead, heal yourself by being focused on be efficient, effective, productive, and enjoying what time you have. Life is great. Enjoy it.
I miss my father, mother, and sister. I am the last one standing. The pages of sadness are long gone. Mean? Cold-hearted? No. It’s life. On the anniversary of a death, celebrate the good memories; ignore the bad ones. Grief is real, but do not let grief hold you back. Renegotiate new relationships. Maintain healthy relationships. Every day is a fresh start.
Ask us about our Me, Me, Me Philosophy.
Mentally strong people stay on track. The strong work at it. We practice, train, and fail, over-and-over, until we get it right. We know we are only as good as our worst habits; that’s why we read, study, and don’t let garbage get in our brain or tummy.
Think about this: What are you doing to sabotage yourself? Figure it out and stop it. Develop the mental strength to deal with life’s problems. Oh, and stop the pity party. You’re not special, neither am I or anyone else.
There’s always room for improvement.
Stop the irrational thinking. Balance emotions and think rationally. And it’s not about acting tough, ignoring emotions, or working out till you drop. As for the non-stop BS about positive mental attitude being the cure-all, hogwash. Be realistic.
Chose and develop healthy habits with focus, effort, and common sense.

PRIMERICA MOVES TO IMPROVE ITS IMAGE, OVERCOME SCANDALS
"Primerica excels at marketing to people who have never given life insurance that much thought. By targeting people who haven’t taken the time to learn as much as they can about the life insurance industry, the company generates demand for its products and services. This means that most people who sign up for Primerica life insurance do so because they trust the salesperson who introduced them to the company. However, the salesperson doesn’t have the power to modify or adapt Primerica policies, and often there are better options out there." Ty Stewart, Primerica Review - Life Insurance - Published January 3, 2019.
Primerica slogs through onslaught of retirement-plan cases - Reuters, July 25, 2013 - "Primerica advisers gave Florida workers poor retirement advice, say current and former Florida public employees in a slew of legal challenges now facing the company. But so far, the company is holding its own as it works its way through 21 securities arbitration cases and seven court cases all focused on the same issue: Public employees eligible for the State of Florida Public Retirement System say PFS Investments Inc, a Primerica Inc unit, advised them to permanently give up their rights to lifetime pension payments and switch to an alternative plan that subjected them to stock market risks."
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) on Tuesday embarrassed Primerica President Peter Schneider, who Senate Republicans had invited to testify against a new regulation designed to protect retirement savings from dodgy investment managers.
Securities Exchange Act of 1934 - Release No.40269 / July 28, 1998 - Administrative Proceedings - File No. 3-9658
The 15 Most Hated Multi-Level Marketing Companies Right Now - Primerica sales agents are encouraged to start selling to their “warm market,” including close friends and family members. Some critics of the company claim that reps are underqualified and ill-equipped to sell complex financial products like life insurance. The company was hit with a lawsuit in 2012 claiming that company reps were targeting certain professions, such as teachers and public workers, with high-risk retirement products. The company had to pay over $15 million to settle 238 lawsuits.

Moreover, so, if you happen to be a bit confused as to what an investment advisor is, don’t worry, you’re at the right place. We’ll make sure you know what a true-fiduciary based investment advisor is and how rare we are.

The standard deviation essentially reports an investment's volatility, which indicates the tendency of the returns to rise or fall drastically in a short period of time. Volatile securities are considered higher risk because their performance may change quickly in either direction at any moment. Watching what the professionals, not the typical talking head on the lamestream news, says about a hurricane, is exactly what true, fiduciary-based investment advisors and managers do every day. The standard deviation essentially reports a fund's volatility, which indicates the tendency of the returns to rise or fall drastically in a short period of time. A volatile security is also considered higher risk because its performance may change quickly in either direction at any moment. If two people each receive a 9% annual return, but one is unhappy, it may be the result of their focus on short-term volatility. Sam sees his money go up by 20% and down by 10%, on a monthly basis, during the year, ending at 9%. Joe sees his money settle at 9% but it's never more than 2 or 3% up or down in any one month. Sam will be frazzled. Joe, if he ignores the market and understands that he's in it for the long term, well, he'll be fine.
The same with hurricanes. You need to be prepared and ready to bug out. Joe, he has cash and is not married to his stocks. Sam, well, he's a worry-wart and he'll die sooner than Joe because of stress. Relax, it is what it is and it will be fine if you stick with the basics.

A shrewd businessman, Naimoli used his years of experience to help negotiate with Major League Baseball and land a franchise for the Tampa Bay region. In 1995, MLB owners voted 28-0 to grant a franchise to Tampa Bay and make them a part of the American League. Naimoli was strongly involved in all facets of the franchise, until selling his majority of the stake in the team in 2005 to the Rays current ownership.

When connecting the dots, there is the quantitative component, which is known as crunching the numbers. There is also the qualitative component, which is getting a handle all of those things that are not “numbers” based. In the case of President Trump, his daughter appears to have a big influence on his life. This was written about by businessman / author Trump when to talked about how it was his daughter who caused him to miss a flight that crashed that would have resulted in his death many years ago.
The quants love the numbers, and the numbers are the numbers; however, not everything is number based. Emotional-based decisions continue to rule the roost and results in a lot of the Misbehaving in the world.

If you are new to Connecting Dots, you will now learn that we do not like financial planners. Financial planning was created as a sales script to sell insurance and investment products. A true financial planner is a rare bird, and so, even if you’ve heard this before, let’s do this again, because we need to change the propaganda and story line most people are buying without careful thought and consideration.

Pork prices have spiked approximately 50% in the past few months, and that has been a topic during several recent portfolio review and forecasting discussion here at Fixed Cost Financial. What you say? Talking about pork during a portfolio review. Why? Well, there’s an outbreak of African swine fever. The potential impact to the world’s pork supply is substantial, but with the political correctness over open borders, global trade, just in time production, and less than top shelf health habits of our homeless and growing under-class, coupled with amd ever shrinking family farm with an ever growing corporate owned agricultural industry, here and abroad, it’s time to connect the dots and think about it.

E-commerce isn’t just disrupting traditional retail: It’s upset a whole ecosystem. Where is the outrage and calls for packaging materials to be used more efficiently and recycled to the same degree as in pre-internet days. Flattened Amazon boxes are filling up the dumps across the nation. Amazon says they are switching to envelopes over boxes for many items, but watch and you’ll see that Jeff says one thing but does another.

What is the most important thing you can do when it comes to investing? Most people I’ve met say things like, what’s the best investment to make or stock to buy. But the magic formula, secret trick, or key to unlock an incredible fortune, isn’t a stock, bond, fund, real estate, patent, or trademark. So what is the most important thing?

The quick criminal process doesn’t apply to the civil process of getting money back. Billing and expenses for the professionals unwinding the case can often eat up a lot of what is recovered. Many Ponzi schemes unwind under the supervision of a federal judge. The judge appoints a trustee. If a trustee becomes distracted with other cases, a judge can set progress-report hearings or delay the trustee’s compensation to speed things up. However, it is not uncommon to have a disinterested or passive judge who can slow things down to a crawl. Remember, this is a gravy train for those involved, and everyone has protection against civil litigation because of court immunity.

If your blood sugar is on the high end of the normal range, diabetes may not be your only risk. Studies suggest you are also at risk of brain shrinkage in areas associated with memory and thinking. At Fixed Cost Financial, we know from extensive study, that those who are 65 years of age, or older, are extremely, unlikely to ever become a client. We have often talked at length and have long suspected that there is a neurological problem associated with what we call the hug and mug. We’ve often asked, why to older people buy, hook, line, and sinker, the hogwash that a continuous stream of shyster salespeople are selling, and the financial product industry is no different from many other industries, commonly referred to as fly by nighters. Sadly, we have to report that there appears to be a stronger association than we ever imagined, with very bad decision making, based on emotions and those age 65 and older.
Even if someone seems perfectly healthy, research shows we all will lose as much as 0.4% of our brain mass every year. But the key is this, the rate of brain shrinkage increases with age and this is a major factor in early cognitive decline and premature death.
An event in a bar in another nation could have a big impact on the endorsement contracts for those who live in the United States.
Working part-time to pay down debt is not the curse of today's younger workers. People have been working part-time, full-time, double, and triple time for as long as bipeds have been walking the planet. There is an uptick in the number of people working "gigs." Surveys and polls say the gig economy is real, but the data is weak when the language used by polling companies is weak. This is the case with a recent poll being touted as the newest insight into working part-time.
Working full-time and then putting in ten hours of part-time work, well, it didn't kill anyone we know of.
Iran and the attack on the oil tankers is a situation akin to Jerry McGuire: "Show me the (money) proof (and then follow the money). Who profits when oil goes up with money, votes, and elections? What are China and Russia doing when it comes to nuclear power plants? We know.
While we are at it, let's define what Green is. Does it include all efficient energy sources, and if not, why not? Do the goal posts change depending up whose in the Oval Office during a 4-year run? Let's take a moment to think about how China and Russia play the long-term game while the USA putts; just saying.
Polarizing conversations among those dug in are a waste of time, but still follow the money, and you'll find a pot of green something-or-another.
More employers are starting to pay workers to put money into a savings account, to have a rainy day fund. It will never work long-term. The long-term solution is a change of the mindset. Modern minimalist methods must replace consumption. Those who "hang" with spenders are in a rut.t that will eventually result in copycat behavior; get new friends. For employers, consider "voluntary" discussion groups about money management, and avoid hiring the commission-based off-Wall Street salesperson who will always be angling to sell a high-cost commission-based product, wrapped like a Christmas present. Don't by the empty box and suit pitch.

Marilyn Monroe
Who was Marilyn Monroe: was an American actress, model, and singer. Famous for playing comic "blonde bombshell" characters, she became one of the most popular sex symbols of the 1950s and early 1960s and was emblematic of the era's changing attitudes towards sexuality. Although she was a top-billed actress for only a decade, her films grossed $200 million (equivalent to $2 billion in 2018) by the time of her unexpected death in 1962.[2] More than half a century later, she continues to be a major popular culture icon.
Been there: During the final months of her life, Monroe lived at 12305 Fifth Helena Drive in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles.
The toxicology report revealed that the cause of death was acute barbiturate poisoning. The possibility that Monroe had accidentally overdosed was ruled out because the dosages found in her body were several times over the lethal limit.
Quote: Marilyn Monroe: “I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.”

Large sums of money
Suddenly wealthy.
No experience doing the things needed
Before no budget, no record keeping, not knowing where to start
SWAT created for those who hit the big times but have no idea where to start and basically need a 2 by 4 across the head to wake up, pay attention, and to get down to business knowing it will be ok, but there's things to do.
Feeling isolated, former friends, turning backs, asking for handouts, feeling guilty'
You're not one of us anymore.
The maturity to reject them. If you can't you will be on the road to it's all gone
Fear of losing it all
Therapists, real and fake.
Fake Financial therapists who are there to hug and mug with commissions
Inheritance, Trust, metering it out
Sports, Lottery
Confusion comes with wealth, key, you get a decent size tax return, what did you do with it?
Spend it, pay off debt, invest it
What you did with prior bonuses and lump sums is an extremely strong indication of what you will do with the big one
Honeymoon: Like the honeymoon phase of a love relationship, people who first come into money feel powerful and invulnerable
Many go on spending sprees, buying things and making risky investments (often with disastrous results)

A. Tony Robbins Strikes Back: Own Your Own Firm, Never Get Fired
B. We’ve watched at least one high-profile RIA pull away from Tony Robbins after the latest wave of old scandals resurfaced.
C. The logic there is ruthless but clear. The firm tied its reputation to the celebrity figurehead but can’t supervise his outside activities.
D. As his disclosures routinely point out, Robbins owns 30% of retirement plan service group America’s Best 401(k). They can’t kick him out without buying him out.
E. There’s no regulatory disclosure on the site and while the principals are passionate about better retirement outcomes, they don’t show up in an SEC search.
F. Medical Practice owned by non-Doctors
G. Salesforce founder Marc Benioff technically plays a similar role in this particular firm. He doesn’t pontificate much about plan design or how great America’s Best 401(k) is.
H. Benioff first discovered the self-help guru as a 28-year-old. The aspiring entrepreneur was working at a big corporation when he began absorbing Robbins's tapes and attending his seminars. Eventually, he credited Robbins with his decision to start Salesforce years later, now a $6.6 billion San Francisco enterprise behemoth.
I. It may be among the most ancient pieces of leadership wisdom, yet when it falls from Robbins's lips, people listen, and they have for more than 30 years. "When everybody's unsure what to do, and there's somebody who fucking knows, everyone pays attention," says Robbins. "Someone who has certainty, even if they're wrong, will lead other people."

5. Stocks rose strongly on Tuesday morning after Fed Chair Jerome Powell said that the Fed would respond appropriately to trade war risks. The comments pointed to a future cut in interest rates and echoed comments from St. Louis Fed President James Bullard on Monday. Meanwhile, the Commerce Department reported that U.S. factory goods orders fell 0.8% in April, down from a revised 1.3% increase in March. T
A. Ninety percent of those 65 and older receive benefits today. More than 62 million Americans will receive approximately $955 billion in Social Security benefits this year.1 However, the gap between what we receive from Social Security and the income many of us will need in the years to come may be wide.
B. That’s why it’s crucial to consider how timing, income, and taxes impact your Social Security benefits. Understanding more about these factors can help you plan accordingly, avoid surprises, and prepare for what you may need to find other sources of income to fill any gaps.
C. Today, 66 is full retirement age for anyone born before 1960 and 67 for those born after. Your benefits grow by 8% every year that you delay claiming them. The longer you hold off, the greater your benefits will be.
D. There are certainly pros and cons to taking them early or waiting. You can actually delay taking them all the way to age 70 before you stop seeing incremental increases in the benefit amount. If you can delay taking benefits until at least 70, you’ll have increased your annual Social Security income by 76% relative to someone who began taking benefits early at 62.
E. If you’re thinking about working while receiving Social Security benefits, your benefits may be reduced depending on when you file.
a. Before full retirement age, benefits are reduced $1 for every $2 above $16,920 in earned income.
b. At full retirement age, benefits are reduced $1 for every $3 above $44,880 in earned income.
c. After full retirement age, there’s no limit on earnings. Withheld earnings are returned.
F. Your benefits may be taxed. The question is if they are, at what percentage? That depends on what tax bracket you’re in. If your combined income is equal to or less than $25,000 if you file as an individual ($32,000 if married, filing jointly), then none of your Social Security benefit is taxable
a. If it’s more than $25,000 and equal to or less than $34,000 ($32,000 and $44,000 if married, filing jointly), up to 50% is taxable. If your combined income is more than $34,000 ($44,000 if married, filing jointly), it goes up to 85% being subject to taxation
b. Speak with your tax advisor for guidance concerning the calculation of taxes.
G. Catastrophe Bonds
a. Catastrophe bonds (also known as cat bonds) are risk-linked securities that transfer a specified set of risks from a sponsor to investors. They were created and first used in the mid-1990s in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew and the Northridge earthquake.
b. In the first quarter of this year, a record $4.24 billion in new catastrophe bonds was issued in 17 separate transactions,” said Robert Hartwig, associate professor and co-director of the Risk and Uncertainty Management Center at the University of South Carolina’s Darla Moore School of Business. “What this says is that cat bonds are no longer the interloper or the disrupter. They’ve become a mainstay fixture.
c. First, a bit of history: In 1992, Hurricane Andrew caused $17 billion in insured losses in Florida—a loss figure double the modeling estimates at the time for the financial costs emanating from a severe hurricane. Several insurers were forced into bankruptcy, and reinsurance capacity dried up for the remainder. A new source of capacity outside traditional reinsurance was needed to fill the void. In 1996, according to Aon Securities, the first catastrophe bond drawing risk-bearing capital from the capital markets to satisfy this need was developed by St. Paul Re UK.
d. Two main parties are involved in the issuance of a catastrophe bond—a sponsor and investors. Sponsors include insurance companies, reinsurance companies, large multinational corporations and even governments, all looking to spread the risk of loss from hurricanes, earthquakes and other natural disasters. Investors generally are pension funds and hedge funds looking to diversify their investment portfolios with a new asset class.
e. Pension funds, retirees should know how their pensions are invested. The have no say, the trustee has all the say, but are these people making solid decisions?
f. catastrophe bonds are a complement to traditional reinsurance, presenting the opportunity to hedge the risk of loss from a natural disaster. The bonds function just like a reinsurance contract structured over several years or a single year. When the sponsor’s property damage losses exceed a specified indemnity trigger ($2 million, for instance), the bond kicks in to absorb the financial impact up to a stated limit (say $3 million), making it similar to traditional reinsurance, in which reinsurers assume layers of risk within a so-called tower.
g. Lloyd's of London, generally known simply as Lloyd's, is an insurance and reinsurance market located in London, United Kingdom. Unlike most of its competitors in the industry, it is not an insurance company; rather, Lloyd's is a corporate body governed by the Lloyd's Act 1871 and subsequent Acts of Parliament and operates as a partially-mutualised marketplace within which multiple financial backers, grouped in syndicates, come together to pool and spread risk. These underwriters, or "members", are a collection of both corporations and private individuals, the latter being traditionally known as "Names".
h. The business underwritten at Lloyd's is predominantly general insurance and reinsurance, although a small number of syndicates write term life assurance. The market has its roots in marine insurance and was founded by Edward Lloyd at his coffee house on Tower Street in c. 1686. Today, it has a dedicated building on Lime Street within which business is transacted at each syndicate's "box" in the underwriting "Room", with the insurance policy documentation being known traditionally as a "slip"
i. In 2018 there were 84 syndicates managed by 55 managing agencies that collectively wrote £35.5bn of gross premiums on risks placed by 303 approved brokers. Around 50 per cent of premiums emanated from North America, 30 per cent from Europe and 20 per cent from the rest of the world. Direct insurance represented around 70 per cent of the premiums, mainly covering property and casualty (liability), while the remaining 30 per cent was reinsurance. The market collectively reported a pre-tax loss of £1bn for 2018, resulting from above-average major claims and a weak investment environment.[4]
j. Lloyd's capital structure, often referred to as the "chain of security", provides financial security to policyholders and capital efficiency to members. The Corporation is responsible for setting both member and central capital levels to achieve a level of capitalisation that is robust and allows members the potential to earn superior returns
There are three "links" in the chain: the funds in the first and second links are held in trust, primarily for the benefit of policyholders whose contracts are underwritten by the relevant member. Members underwrite for their own account and are not liable for other members' losses
The third link consists largely of the Lloyd's Central Fund, which contains mutual assets held by the Corporation which are available, subject to Council approval, as required, to meet any member's insurance liabilities.[20]
In 2017 the first link (syndicate level assets) amounted to £51.1bn, the second link (members' "funds at Lloyd's") £24.6bn, and the Central Fund contained just over £2bn.
Lloyd's worst results in its long history were in the 1989 through to 1991 years, each producing overall losses of over £2bn; the late 1990s were also punctuated by repeated and significant underwriting losses.[23] In 2001 the calendar year result was a 140 per cent combined ratio, driven largely by claims arising out of the World Trade Center attack, reserve increases for prior-year liabilities and deteriorating pricing levels. However, since then, the market has generally enjoyed profitability in every year except those marked by large natural catastrophes. For example, in 2005 a spate of major Atlantic hurricanes including Hurricane Katrina drove the Lloyd's overall combined ratio to 112 per cent, while events including the Japanese earthquake and floods in Thailand badly impeded performance in 2011.
United States gun control advocates have accused Lloyd's of providing “murder insurance” because it underwrites several types of National Rifle Association-endorsed firearms policies, including for gun shows and personal liability insurance that covers criminal and civil defence suits. The NRA-endorsed personal liability policies are unusual, as insurance policies rarely cover costs from criminal prosecution. Gun control supporters argue that these policies could increase gun violence as they have the potential to reduce the negative consequences of firing a gun, similar to “stand-your-ground” laws.[44
According to the owner of Appalachian Promotions, which organises gun shows in several US states, Lloyd's is "the NRA’s choice” for gun shows and “there’s usually nowhere else to get it for gun shows.” Critics have accused Lloyd's of enabling the “gun show loophole” and “aiding and abetting the black market in handguns.”[45
New York state regulators are investigating the marketing of these “self-defense" insurance policies.[4

l. The Colorado State University (CSU) tropical weather forecasting team has increased its prediction for the number of hurricanes that will form during the 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season and also its landfall probabilities, but still cite the significant uncertainty associated with El Nino’s influence this year.

Anger triggered by a prior, unrelated experience that, from an objective perspective, should not influence our current judgments or decisions can make us unreceptive to what others have to say. In related research, Scott Wiltermuth of the University of Southern California and Larissa Tiedens of Stanford University found that anger triggered by something unrelated to the decision at hand also affects how we evaluate others’ ideas. irrelevant emotions triggered by a completely unrelated event can take us off track. The next time you drink a bitter cup of coffee or have an argument with a loved one, pause to consider how your emotional reactions could linger as you enter into important task or weigh a complex decision.

Confessions Of A Former Financial Advisor: 5 Things I Didn't Tell My Clients
The envelope system
What is a fiduciary?
What you need to know about financial planners
NOTES
A financial advisor who makes a living through commissions has a strong financial incentive to include life insurance, as some insurance companies pay rather well for selling their products.
From the Financial Industry Regulatory Association website: “Financial planners can come from a variety of backgrounds and offer a variety of services. They could be brokers or investment advisers, insurance agents or practicing accountants—or they may have no financial credentials at all. Some will examine your entire financial picture and help you develop a detailed plan for achieving your financial goals. Others, however, will recommend only the products they sell, which may give you a limited range of choices.” The American consumer deserves better, and it begins by making sure that words have consistent meanings.

Helping your children make videos - If your children love moviemaking, here are some tips for helping them develop their production skills and storytelling abilities. Moviemaking is almost always a team effort, and it can be very rewarding to team up with your kids on a project. If you already have decent video production skills, you can be a teacher and a helper. If you're a novice, making a movie is an opportunity for you and your child to learn together and from each other.
Digital Video Production: Start a YouTube Channel
Parents concerned about YouTube debate whether to let their children have their own channels; some forbid it, others send them to summer camp - These camps bring up a debate raging in many households: whether to allow children to post videos on YouTube. It gets at perhaps the biggest question of parenting in a digital age, which is how much leeway to give children in this fast-changing frontier while also protecting them—from themselves as much as from others. While many parents won’t even entertain the idea of allowing their children to be on YouTube, in part because it could invite bullying or predators, others view the medium as a creative outlet that can teach their children life skills, such as planning, storytelling and composure.

Uber and Lyft are two transportation companies that have a wide but shallow moat. The concept of local transportation of people and things is not difficult to replicate. That's the shallow part of the moat. The Old School way of doing things often involves laying hands-on. Degeja Coffee, Tea, and Art Shop in Wesley Chapel is a cute coffee shop that puts Starbucks to shame. Degeja is the type of place that makes you feel comfortable, relaxed, and appreciated. Old School is great, but NEw School is required as well. To lure high-quality employment into a city, most governments seek the biggest bang for the giveaway tax dollars. That's right, giving away tax dollars to medium and large companies, such as Amazon, with the hope and prayer of getting people to work, shop, play, and stay. Then there's Tulsa, Oklahoma and the effort to lure individuals on an individual basis to make Tulsa their home for mobile working.
While technology can solve problems, once again, it requires hands-on treatment of people with Alzheimer's and dementia. It's sad but true, for many, it is truly a circle of life, from crib-to-crib. Along the way, it's the mind that goes which we all fear, but it's the business lifestyle mindset that many rags-to-riches stories are made. Sadly, it's back to the rags for many who have the physical "it" but not the "mental" it. From Mike Tyson, Evander Hollyfield, and many others, the roadway of life is littered with l non-Valley world of clueless.

Life is Learning
Learning to learn is one of the most important things a person can do in life. Teaching the ability to learn coupled with a growth mindset with persistence is required to accomplish great things. Blaming others when it's the one in the mirror who is at fault. You can do this, you really can.
When I began in the investment advisory business in 1986, we were expected to wear a suit. The same was true of the police department where I had worked previously, but a jacket and slacks were more common. Those who wore a jacket and pants at the advisory firm, however, were pushing it. I didn't push it, and thus I've always had two dozen suits of various weights for northern cold and Florida damp climates. The dress code was traditional but not as rigid as that of the 1960s, what some would call the Mad Man era. In the 60s, my father had several basic black and blue suits, many white and a couple of blue shirts, and many black and medium blue and red ties. All of his shirts were pressed, folded, and in thin plastic bags. Shoes were always black wingtips. The only flare was a white pocket stuffer, that was firmly held in place and presented a straight white line across the left breast.
Then the late 60s came along, and someone higher up said the company had lost its way by not keeping up. Leisure suits were expected to be purchased and worn. Younger customers expected a hip executive and the world was changing. My father struggled with the change, and didn’t like it.
I have a picture of friends and me from the 80s when the television show Miami Vice was popular. It’s a polaroid of four people about to go out for the evening, and it’s one of those that today brings out the comment, “what were we thinking?”
In March of 2019, Goldman Sachs announced that suits and ties were now optional. I found this announcement unimaginable as I know of several men who were dismissed for violating the dress code. In one case, while at lunch at a small diner in New York City, two traders took their jackets off as the air conditioning was broken and the jammed pack diner was extremely hot. A partner at the firm spotted the two, and upon their return, they were greeted at the receptionist desk with a security guard and a box for each containing their belongings. They were terminated and walked out the door. While jackets could be removed while working as a trader, a golden boy was never to be seen outside without their monk-like bespoke suit, shoes, and tie. I understand what some will go through with the new flexible dress code that favors a more casual environment.
The polished and pressed suited employee looks to be a thing of the past, at least for the next few years. This signals the firm grasp of a widespread change in workplaces across America. Although dress codes have relaxed, they are now more complex than ever, and I’ve dealt with the problem for decades. When it comes to administrative staff, I’ve resorted to a uniform shirt and solid color matching slacks at times. Why? Because I’ve had people at times who abused the flexibility and pushed the limits. I feel that there is always a need for a sense of uniformity and professionalism, no matter the level of formality, at all places of work. From the coffee shop to the bank, I sense there will be a growing trend towards corporate slacks and shirts. And it’s not like I’ve not seen this trend for years. While attending Network After Work events, I rarely see a man in a suit and tie, but the corporate polo is typical.
Clothing, coupled with demeanor, are outward expressions of self, beliefs, and lifestyle, and people today definitely resist regulation; unless you wear a red MAGA ball cap, and then for some you’re a punching bag.
When setting a dress code, it's essential to think about who you are, the circumstances, and the image you want to put forward. If a lawyer shows up for court in jeans and a T-shirt, there’s going to be a problem, but for the same lawyer attending a creative meeting for a startup, some may be fine with it, others not.
In today’s Connecting Dots podcast, I will discuss the opportunities for those who have mastered the art of adapting to the situation when both in and out of the office and how much of what many are struggling with is not new, just different as times change.

Extremists do more damage than good with their ridiculous claims. An AR15 does not make bazooka size holes in people, stop the fake-news reporting. With everyone anti-everything, wearing a pair of tactical pants might upset the sensibilities of some, even when one only wants to carry things efficiently and effectively without lugging an ever-growing shoulder bag. And how about Twitter; what's it useful for? Not much during the NCAA tournament and Game of Thrones when it comes to a specific group of people. Which means paying attention to the stock market isn't high on the priority list for some. Buy high and sell low is as solid as ever. And who would have ever thought Trump would be the environmental President? Burning the burning man with demands for clean environmental behavior, and generation four nuclear power poo-poo eaters. Mutual funds are widely held, and many investors will say they understand how they work, but that’s not true. The overwhelming majority of mutual fund and ETF shareholders are woefully unprepared to make an informed decision, and this includes those who pride themselves as do-it-yourselfers. For those picking their first mutual fund, it can be intimidating. As a result, most people delay years, even decades, before they begin to invest. Continually putting off what needs to be done is a huge mistake. It’s easy to put off doing what’s right when it takes effort, but buying into the wrong approach, a fake advisor, and false savings vehicles can be both financially and emotionally crushing. In today’s Connecting Dots podcast, we expose a bit of the truth about mutual funds, ETFs, pension plans, 401(k)s, 457s, 403bs, advisors, agents, bankers, brokers, dealers, and those horrible financial planners who are pulling the wool over the eyes of a large segment of the investing public.
