Gratitude

1 Thess. 5:16-18

How can we be grateful with everything going on around us?

  1. Our gratitude depends on who God is.
  2. Our gratitude depends on what He has done (past).
  3. Our gratitude depends on what He will do (future).

Why should I be grateful?

  1. It takes my focus off my situation.
  2. It does more for me than it does for God.
  3. It makes me a happier person.

Cultivate a habit of gratitude.

  1. Make it part of your devotional life.
  2. Share with others (in terms of witness).
  3. Express gratitude to others.
  4. Serve God and others.

Working Out Your Salvation

Many times as believer we settle into maintenance mode.  God has not called us to maintain, he has called us to be like Christ.

Philippians 2:12-13 New International Version (NIV) Do Everything Without Grumbling 12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.

Three things God uses to bring about spiritual growth:

  1. The Word of God
  2. The Holy Spirit
  3. Situations, circumstances, and the people around us.

Three things I have to do to work out my salvation

  1. Allow God's Word to renew my mind
  2. Be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit
  3. Choose how I am going to respond to the things that happen in my life

The Power of Decision Making

James 1:5-11

Link for video mentioned in sermon

www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZMAkLarIUo I. The issue is INDECISION

"A doubleminded man is unstable in all his ways." (vs. 8 KJV)

("DOUBLE-MINDED” - Greek "two-souled”)

Indecision Causes:

  • Damaged Emotions

  • Insecurity in Relationships

  • Inconsistency in our Spiritual life

II. The Solution is GETTING WISDOM (vs. 5-6a)

  • ACKNOWLEDGE you can’t do it on your own

"If any of you lack wisdom ..." (vs. 5a)

  • PRAY - Ask God

" ... he should ask God ..." (vs 5b)

  • BELIEVE God for an answer

"But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt ..." (vs. 6)

III. WHY BELIEVE: Because HIS Promise

"... Ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him." (vs. 5c)

How God gives:

  • Continually

  • Generously

  • Without finding fault

Misconception: God’s will does NOT mean God is not going to make the decision for you!

Pastor Sid Chatterjee shares a short devotion on the purpose of praise.

Praise or worship does not depend on the circumstances or condition you are in.

We praise because we know that God is still in control.

Worship is a lifestyle, not just something you can turn off and turn on.

We worship God, we proclaim his name because we value who he is in our lives.

Living in Sync: The Kingdom, The Power, and The Glory Matthew 6:5-13

Matthew 6:5-13 New International Version (NIV) Prayer 5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babblinglike pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you needbefore you ask him.

9 “This, then, is how you should pray:

“‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

The kingdom of God.... * was evidenced in the past * is a reality for today * is established forever

Living in Sync with God 1. Living in God's Kingdom * Putting Him first in everything (marriage, family, fincances, career, trouble, time) 2. Living by God's Power * Spending time in prayer * Stepping out in faith * Perservering - don't quit 3. Living for God's Glory * Reflect God's love * Serve willingly/faithfully * Share Christ
