We are back after a two-year hiatus! In this episode, I sat down with Jonathan Chiaramonte, who I’ve known for about twelve years now. He’s the kind of guy that leaves a positive lasting impression on all the students who walk through his door. Being a peer-education teacher at our school, Mr. Chiaramonte knows a thing or two about building self-esteem and knocking down the walls that we’ve been putting up since the pandemic. Together, we hope to bring you some positivity and advice for how to get through whatever personal challenges you may be facing.

In this episode, my guest Sky Burke and I discuss importance of self-advocacy. If you don’t know what that term means, self-advocacy is the ability to speak-up for yourself and the things that are important to you. Self-advocacy also means being able to ask for what you need and want and also be able to tell people about your thoughts and feelings. Sky has always been great at advocating for herself, and I think her stories will inspire others to seek out the help they need. Sky is also a self-published author, and you'll hear all about how she put a book out into the world. She also offers suggestions for iPad apps that can help students overcome their challenges in academics.

In this quick update, I want to tell you a story about why it's important to be "present" in whatever it is you are currently doing. Being present means fully enjoying the moment that you are in. It is the moment when you are calm and you know exactly what you want. You are focused on what you're doing without thinking about anything else. If you want to learn more about how you can be more present in your life and the associated benefits of living in the present, check out the link I've left below.

In part one of this two-part series of episodes, we are going to take a look at the many benefits of cooking and baking as a hobby. Last week we talked about developing intrinsic motivation, which is the motivation to accomplish a goal that comes from within. Another way to develop intrinsic motivation that we didn’t talk about last time is to put yourself in positions where you can have a series of successes in a short period of time. With success comes more confidence in yourself, and a feeling that you can accomplish more complex goals
I personally believe that cooking is a fun and easy way to put yourself in a position to have success. There are so many simple foods that you can make that are tasty and sure to be a big hit, should you decide to share your creation with family or friends
Listen as three others and myself discuss how cooking is a fun way to build your self-confidence and motivation.
