This week we began a four-week series of guest preachers. We will be hearing from some members of our church who have walked through a training course in preaching this year.
This Sunday we heard from Steve Kukkonen. He taught us on James 1:1-8 where we learned about how we are able to have joy and to grow through all kinds of trials in this life.
As we conclude this section of John's gospel, we see in Jesus' prayer he moves from praying for the 11 to praying for all Christians through all time. And we see the beauty of knowing that Jesus is praying for us.
In this sermon, we discuss John 17:1-19 to see the last things that were on Jesus' mind as He prays to the Father before His crucifixion. We see how Jesus prays for His glorification back to His rightful place at the right hand of the Father and also how He prays for the 11 Disciples.

In this sermon we dive into John 16:16-33, examining the blessings the disciples will receive after Jesus' resurrection.
In this sermon, we see Jesus' promise that, as He goes to the Father, that He will send the Spirit to convict the world concerning sin, righteousness and judgment. We also see how He will do this: through the preaching of the Gospel as the 11 Apostles are equipped to remember all that Jesus has taught them as a firm foundation for the Church to be laid upon.

As we examine John 15:18-16:4a, we see that Jesus explains to his disciples, on the evening before His death, that the world will hate them (because they belong to Him and because the world hates the Father); but although the world hates them, Jesus also promises that He will send the Spirit to help them as they get about the missionary task of bearing witness to Jesus. These words of warning from Jesus helps the disciples know what to expect as they follow Jesus - what the cost associated with following Him looks like so that, as they undergo persecution on account of the world, that they might not fall away.

Through our study, we came to see that no heart that is too callous, no mind that is too darkened, no life that is too alienated from the life of God to be transformed by the word of truth, the gospel of our salvation.

In today’s sermon, we pick up on Ephesians 3:1-13 to explore why Paul is in prison (what he preached that landed him there), some of the hostility within the Ephesian church (issues he is addressing), and how Paul was the Apostle chosen by God to preach to the Gentile nations the wonderful news that they are not second-class citizens, halfway believers, renters in the kingdom of God; rather, they are owners, heirs of the promise, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the Gospel.

In this sermon, we talk about how Jesus, through the cross, kills the hostility that exists between Jewish and Gentile believers as a pattern for how all ethnic and ideological hostility is killed in the same way; through Jesus, we who are naturally hostile towards God and one another are reconciled and transformed to be lovers of God and others.

As a church, one of our biggest aims is to help train, equip and mobilize our members in the gifts that God has given them so that they might be a blessing to our church and that God might confirm some gifting and callings in their life so that they might serve our church in greater ways and/or be sent out of our church to help plant new churches and pastor/bless unhealthy churches as solid church members. To help us in this task of training and equipping, we developed these Preachers Forum evenings and are praying that God would raise up preachers, sound technicians, worship leaders, children's ministry volunteers and launch team members that will serve our local church and, we pray, God might call some of them to help plant healthy churches and ministries out of our church.

This weekend, we're continuing our study in the book of Ephesians by seeing how Paul reminds the Christians in Ephesus of the good news of their salvation - how they were once walking in opposition to God, but now, by God's grace and His work in their lives, they are made spiritually alive and walking in works that He has prepared for them. The entire trajectory of their life has drastically changed. This is not only true of the Christians in Ephesus, but all Christians; as we were all born spiritually dead, hating the things of God and at war with satan, the world, and our own flesh. However, God has made us alive in Christ - which is a wonderful thing to be thankful for on this Thanksgiving weekend.

This weekend we're continuing our study in the book of Ephesians. And now we're focusing on the final portion of chapter 1 - verse 15-23
It's not news that many are "abandoning" true Christianity in this country, and churches close their door every week. But there is probably a more sad and more concerning trend: the growing number of Christians who live a miserable Christian life. And many of them don't even know it.
This week we want to talk about what it means to live a miserable Christian life and what's the solution for it.

In last week’s sermon, we talked about how the Ephesians were this mixed group of people (Jews and Gentiles) who were united to Jesus by faith and, as a result, brought into a new spiritual family (united with a local church), so that they might have tangible relationships that demonstrate the effects of the Gospel in their everyday lives.
Well, this week, we see the letter to these saints begin; but it doesn’t follow the normal pattern of Paul’s letters. Instead of kicking the letter off by praying for the Christians in Ephesus, he begins by praising God for their salvation. As we read these scriptures, it becomes clear that this whole section of scripture is a wonderful doxology, a song of praise to God for His grace and kindness extended towards these Ephesians and, by extension, all Christians.
And this song of praise is truly breathtaking, leading our hearts to rejoice in God for His great kindness extended to us in the Gospel.

This Sunday, we’re continuing our “Living Letters to a Dying World” series.
During our series so far, we have learned that this letter is unashamedly passionate about the gospel and constantly striving for personal holiness. Next week we will learn that this letter is passionate about seeing others affected by the gospel. And these things combined are to be displayed to all the nations as a fulfillment of our Great Commission.
But this weekend, we will ponder on one foundational characteristic of these letters; we will seek to understand from the Bible what motivates their heart and what their essence is. In other words, we will step back and understand what caused this letter to desire the gospel. What causes this person to strive for holiness? And what caused this person to desire to see other people saved?”

The intent is to explore the so famous “Great Commission” but from a perspective that hopefully will help to enrich our understanding of our mission as a church and as Christians individually.

At the beginning of the book of Exodus, we saw a “dark shadow of enslavement that lay upon the people of God, the bitter cry of bereavement as their sons were snatched from them for the river, the blows of the taskmaster, a future without hope, and the relentless, uncaring policy of genocide. They were at that time a people under the cloud …
Now, at the end of the book, they were again a people under a cloud, this time the cloud of the Lord, the signal of His presence in glory, holiness and grace.
Between these two clouds, the sovereign Lord of the whole earth had routed all the power of the enemy, granted His people deliverance, brought them to Himself by the blood of the lamb, graced them with his directive law, and come, in the fullness of His person, to take up residence in their midst as their indwelling God.
This is the whole story of the book of Exodus.” (Motyer)
We are so excited to bring this study to a conclusion by studying Exodus 40:34-38 on Sunday and seeing how God’s promise to dwell with His people comes to fruition … a text which comforts us yet also perplexes us as it points forward to a future day.

Moses, after being face to face with God, had his face shining. The people feared coming near him because God's glory reflected in him. So, they covered his face with a veil. Today we finished part 1 of this series in the book of Exodus. It's has been a long journey in which we could see the love, mercy and faithfulness of God towards his people.
Until this point in our story, we saw God saving the Israelites through miraculous interventions, but now God will show himself as the God who gives his people the strength to fight and conquer.
"Moses built an altar and called it The Lord is my Banner. He said, "Because hands were lifted up against the throne of the Lord, the Lord will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation." (Exodus 17:15-16)

In this week’s sermon, we are discussing Exodus 13:17-14:31 and studying how Israel passes through the baptismal waters of the Red Sea.
In so doing, this baptism reminds us of the waters of God’s judgment in Genesis 6-8 and looks forward to the cross, where Jesus passes through the waters of judgment to win our salvation.
Not only that but we are commanded to remember our redemption through Jesus by being baptized as a public profession of our mutual faith (and we get this really beautiful reminder that our baptism harkens back to the baptism in the Red Sea; reminding us of our mutual faith with the saints throughout the ages).

Remember Your Redemption.
As Israel will be heading into the wilderness wanderings and eventually ending up in the Promised Land, God gives them reminders (nationally and individually) of His strong hand in bringing them out of the land of slavery.
Likewise, Christian, He calls us to remember our redemption corporately and personally; constantly reminding us that He is the Author of our Salvation and that He who began a good work in us will bring us safely home. Our call in the meantime is to Remember.
Remember His grace.
Remember His salvation of us.
Remember the Lamb who was slain so that we might have the wrath of God pass over us.
Remember to live holy lives as a result.

Freedom has become such a hot topic in our society today. Many people shout this word; but are we talking about the same thing? And what is freedom anyway?

This Sunday we will be reflecting upon the text found in Exodus 12:1-32. God sends the last and most terrible plague upon Egypt - He struck down all the firstborn in Egypt - and to the Israelites was given a way out of the judgment. That's a sobering passage that has much to teach us.

In this opening sermon on the book of Exodus, we’ll be exploring the background of this book and how Israel grew in numbers in Egypt and started being oppressed to the point of becoming slaves, and how oppression just brought more multiplication and strength to this people. And more importantly, we will understand how this whole story relates to our lives today and to the Gospel.
Today's Sermon covers the most important miracle found in the Gospel of John, the one that all of the other miracles hinge upon: the Resurrection of Jesus.
Reminders of what Jesus said about His death and resurrection:
“I am the resurrection and the life” (John 11:25,).
- Jesus is the eternal God the Son, uncreated, equal with God the Father and God the Spirit - one God, that we know as three Persons.
- Jesus holds the keys to life and death.
John 10:17b-18: “I lay down my life that I may take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.”
Jesus also knew from before the foundations of the world that His death would bring salvation to God’s Sheep, to His elect, to the men and women that God the Father gave to God the Son.
Jesus knew how He would bring about this salvation, the forgiveness of sins - that it would come through His death in our place on the cross.
- John 3:14-15: “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.”
- John 12:32, “And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” And he said this to explain the kind of death that he would experience - crucifixion.

John 19:1-11 - which explain to us how Jesus was beaten

Raising the dead is probably one of the most spectacular things Jesus did during his time here on earth. We already learned that Jesus’s miracles pointed to his divinity but what does this specific miracle teach us about Jesus's character, the mission he came to accomplish, our part in it and the Kingdom of God?

The miracles of Jesus are meant to be witnessed to His identity as the Son of God and to point to the truthfulness of His teaching.
But in the miracle we will study tomorrow, the man who is shown mercy by Jesus will turn Jesus over to the Jews! He won’t worship Jesus, or thank Jesus, or follow Jesus as a result.
And, in the end, this miracle will lead the Jews to begin plotting Jesus’ murder.

- If God is all-powerful, He could do something to prevent or end suffering.
- If God is all-loving, He would want to prevent or end suffering.
- There is a tremendous amount of suffering in the world.
- Therefore, God either is not all-loving or not all-powerful.

Even if you're a faithful Christian you probably had times in which you were unhappy with God's methods and timing. God might sometimes seem slow and silent to speak and act, and the way he do things are not the most pleasing. The prophet Habakkuk was going through the same struggle and God gives him the remedy to fear, anxiety and hurry. And even more than that he gives him what is necessary to go through the judgment that is coming upon the world and give him a message to proclaim during this time.

This week, we are continuing our series through the Gospel of Mark in this 14-week series covering the Final Days of Jesus.
Since we haven't been in the Gospel of Mark for a few months, this week we cover a few overarching storylines and give a bit of background of the book which leads us up to the final days before Jesus' death.
Specifically, three things we need to know before we get into the passage:
1) Jesus is the Son of God, which is a claim at equality with God the Father
2) Nobody has the teaching authority of Jesus
3) Nobody had authority in miracles and power like Jesus
And we also look at three things that mark Jesus' ministry:
1) It would be primarily marked by preaching
2) It would include a great deal of secrecy
3) Jesus knows that He is headed towards the cross and tells the disciples that they will also face a similar fate
Then, we discuss Mark 1:1-11 and conclude by pointing out that four things about Jesus in these final days:
1) Jesus is brave
2) Jesus is humble
3) Jesus accepts suffering and trusts the plans and purposes of God the Father
4) Jesus loved sinners
One of the words that we see frequently used around Christmas time is the word “hope” - whether that be on flyers and social media posts that encourage us to be hopeful, or in shopping catalogues trying to get us to buy toys for our kiddos that we hope they will like. Hope has also gone viral over the last few weeks as millions of people were hoping that amazon and Canada post would deliver things on time - there was even a little meme going around the last few weeks that said: “I don’t know who needs to hear this, but stop trying to track that package. It’s in God’s hands now.”
As our children’s book says, the Christmas story began with a promise, But it also ends with one.
So, for this time together in God’s Word today, we are going to examine 4 things: 1) the promise of Jesus’ second coming, 2) what it will be like on that day, 3) how we should wait in the mean time, and 4) what encouragement we have along the way.

In this sermon, we look back at where our sermon series began and trace the promises of God from the Garden to the Manger. In doing this, we recognize the gravity of the Promises that God has made and how He has kept them perfectly.
Throughout this sermon series, we have been talking about how the season of Advent reminds us that we are waiting upon the second coming of Jesus. As the saints of Old first waited upon the First Advent of Christ, so we now wait upon His second coming.
Thus, the question we should be asking ourselves is: how are we waiting? And how should we be waiting?
In this sermon, we discuss three ways that we are called to wait:
1) We need to change the way we see death;
2) We should not be afraid of the future;
3) We must be awake and sober;

What does it look like to leave behind security, safety, and family to follow the call of God?
How are we called to follow this example? To walk, not by sight, but by faith?
This sermon continues our series examining Hebrews 11; learning from the faith of those who have gone before us so that we may walk in faithfulness in these uncertain times
There is so much uncertainty in these turbulent times and we are tempted to walk by sight, not by faith. To trust in what our eyes can see, instead of the promises of God.
But is that what Jesus demands of His Church?
And how should we live out our faith in the midst of a pandemic? Do our lives look differently than those without faith in Jesus?
