We so much enjoyed chatting with dietitian Laura Schoenfeld about how we can support our adrenals, reduce stress, and find that happy, healthy place our bodies crave! We had a wonderful conversation with Laura—including some really specific advice—and as you’ll hear, she really knows her stuff! This was a really great reminder that so many women work hard on maintaining their health, but end up overstressed, overtrained, and undernourished. We had the pleasure of sitting down with the lovely Holly Lowery, an eating disorder recovery coach, an anti-diet advocate, and the host of the Well + Weird podcast. This is a great conversation about finding love for our body, finding health no matter where you fall on the weight spectrum, and embracing exactly who you are + who you’re supposed to be. It’s also a conversation that a lot of women NEED to have, but are afraid after years of programming telling us that we need to look, eat, or act a certain way – but that’s not the case! We Chat About: When a tornado stopped us from recording Healing human body weirdness How dieting teaches us not to listen to our intuition + bodies The story we’ve been sold about weight How perfectionism + wanting to fit in can escalate into disordered eating Recovering from disordered eating Speaking out loud + finding support Signs of disordered eating Reaching out to dieticians with experience in eating disorder recovery – NOT someone offering “weight management” Why aggressive weight loss or weight maintenance isn’t usually healthier (and doesn’t usually make you happier) Aligning your choices with yourself Is “feeling fat” or “feeling thin” real? Shivani Gupta is an author, speaker, and Ayurveda expert. At its most basic level, Ayurveda is the science of life – a traditional Hindu system of medicine that uses diet, herbal treatment, and yogic breathing to promote balance between mind, body, and spirit. There are a lot of Ayurveda practitioners out there digging into the clinical side of things, but Shivani focuses more on the research – what is the science behind Ayurveda and what do these herbs really do for us? Shivani takes the knowledge and ancient wisdom of Ayurvedic practices and adapts it to a modern life so that we can have healthier digestion and lives. On April 20th, we had so much fun hosting a live event called Harness Your Fear with former guests Ashley Rector (Founder of Harness Magazine) and http://wineandshinepodcast.com/ep-56 (Julie Wojno) (Health Coach & Fitness Instructor). We talked all about the fear that holds us back from chasing our wildest dreams. The fear that screams "YOU CAN'T DO THAT!" or "WHAT IF YOU FAIL?" The fear that seeds self-doubt where self-confidence ought to shine. The fear that keeps you safe (stuck), right where you are, instead of living the life of your dreams. It's not about being fearLESS – it's about knowing how to harness your fear to live FULL OUT! We Chat About: Wine of the Day: Shout out to Wine on High for providing delicious wine! Today’s episode really touched our hearts, in a way we weren’t quite expecting when we started recording. Our guest is Amber Runyon, Founder of Eleventh Candle Co., a product line launched through Legacy, a non-profit based out of Columbus. Collectively, these two organizations are working globally to redeem, restore, empower, and equip those vulnerable to human trafficking, abuse, exploitation, and addiction. Human trafficking is probably not at all like what you think it is – and unfortunately, it’s also probably not as far away as you think it is. The silver lining is that there are people out there like Amber making a huge difference, and she shows that even small acts – like https://eleventhcandleco.com/ (buying a candle) – can be used to empower others. We’ve been taking our https://takecareof.com/ (Care/of) vitamins and we feel great! They’re a unique monthly vitamin service that focuses on honest guidance, better ingredients, and personalization. You just answer a quick questionnaire about your goals, lifestyle, and values – then they will help you pick vitamins that are good for your body. Robyn Youkilis is a health coach, a leading expert in holistic digestive health, and the author of Thin from Within: The Go with Your Gut Way to Lose Weight. This new book combines high-level concepts like intuition, following your gut, and nourishing yourself with SO MANY practical tools that will help you put bring those ideas into your life. (And, as you’ll hear in this episode, Nina is a BIG fan!!) Like the book, our conversation covers a lot of the high-level stuff – like the importance of listening to your gut, the gut-brain connection, and listening to your intuition – but we also dig into the nitty gritty of how you can take care of your gut, and how you can structure your life so that preparing and eating nourishing foods is less stressful. Robyn has a gift for Wine & Shine listeners! Robyn is generous enough to offer our audience a bonus gift for ordering her book!! Everyone who buys Thin from Within can get her incredible workbook, which we highly recommend, but Wine & Shine listeners will also get access to Robyn’s Virtual Meal Prep Workshop. In this bonus episode, we’re talking about the Moon, the Sun, Mercury… and all the cosmos!! Ambi Kavanaugh joins us to chat about Soulstrology, and we think this is a great episode for anyone who feels on the fence about astrology because Ambi does not practice traditional astrology; Ambi is not helping people predict their future from a horoscope. Instead, Ambi helps people align their energy with the natural energies of the cosmos to create their own future. By understanding the unique characteristics of the entire zodiac and the interplay between the movement of the planets and the individual and collective psyche, we are able to consciously work with these energies on a mind, body, and soul level. In this episode of Wine & Shine, we delve into the realm of the mainstream media to uncover why women have primarily negative self-perceptions. We’ll discuss why it’s important to let go of these perceptions and love yourself as you are despite constant media bombardment, while still consciously making choices toward self-improvement. Quotes: “People definitely thought we were taking engagement photos, and I support that.” - Nina “How come we can’t see these positive sides of ourselves [and] it takes someone else to point out something that can be super-beautiful?” - Nina “The issue I have in the mainstream media is that what is and is not attractive is being determined by a bunch of old, white men.” - Liz “People don’t buy products, they buy what that product will make them become.” - Liz “How can we begin a shift of having women believe in these ideals sooner so that we can make a shift as a society?” - Nina “I do think it’s really important for women to support each other, because if we don’t, who will?” - Liz We’ll Discuss: Wine of the Day: 2014 Charles Smith - “Eve” Chardonnay Miss Representation Pro’s and cons: the pageantry of competitive beauty Men are the decision makers in the media, and why that’s a problem The interpretation gap, and supporting retailers you don’t support Body-neutral retailers Youth-targeted and gender-biased media Why we don’t take curvy women seriously The fine line between self-improvement and self-deprecation Your “best” body is up to you Comparing ourselves, positive or negative, is a dangerous game “Pretty is as pretty does.” - Grandma Belden The pressure is real for men, too Links: iTunes: https://bit.ly/wineandshine Facebook: Wine & Shine Podcast Instagram: @wineandshinepodcast Vivino: https://www.vivino.com/users/wineandshinepodcast Snapchat: wineshinepod Email: wineandshinepodcast@gmail.com Resources: MOOC - Open-Source Classes https://www.mooc-list.com
