Manufactured weakness is the kind of limitation that isn’t inherited or imposed—but created. It’s the result of avoiding growth, rejecting responsibility, normalizing dysfunction, or surrounding yourself with standards low enough to never confront your potential. It’s weakness by design. Not because you couldn’t be strong—but because you’ve repeatedly chosen comfort over courage, survival over truth, and habits that serve emotions over values. If you’re still complaining, you’re not processing—you’re practicing. If you’re still playing the victim, you’re not stuck—you’re staying. Let that land. This episode is a wake-up call for anyone who's been running the same emotional loop, telling the same story, and calling it healing. The truth? Most people don’t need more time—they need more ownership. What looks like “processing” is often just avoidance in disguise. What feels like “overwhelm” is usually a lack of leadership—internal and external. This isn’t about dismissing your pain. It’s about refusing to let it become your identity. Most people don’t fail because they lack vision. They fail because they never trained themselves to execute when the hype wears off. Clarity is cheap. Discipline is rare. The gap between what you say you want and what you actually follow through on is where most people stay stuck. Not because they can’t—but because they’re still negotiating with distraction, perfection, or public opinion. Vision doesn’t need more excitement. It needs a system that holds when motivation drops off. The people who finish aren’t the ones who feel the most—it’s the ones who move with precision, especially when no one’s watching. If you can’t execute in silence, you’ll never hold the weight of what you say you want. You don’t just end up in a dark place—you’re slowly trained into it. Conditioned by chaos, shaped by trauma, and wired for survival. In this episode, I’m breaking down what actually pulls us into darkness—and how to get out. We’ll talk about the nervous system, trauma identity, shame, and why pain becomes familiar—even addictive. I share the deeper psychology behind survival mode, and walk you through how to start reconditioning your life for safety, stability, and truth. You’ll hear parts of my own story: growing up with a father struggling with addiction and mental illness, developing an eating disorder as a child, staying in abusive relationships that mirrored the instability I was raised in—and what it really looked like to break free. This isn’t just a story of struggle; it’s a roadmap for healing. If you’re tired of performing strength, clinging to control, or confusing survival with purpose, this episode will show you what it takes to release the old, reclaim your identity, and rise. You’re not broken—you were trained by pain. If you don’t know what you value, discipline will always feel like a grind. In this episode, we’re unpacking the deeper structure behind why most people can’t stay consistent—because they’re trying to build discipline without a foundation. Everything starts with your values. What you value shapes what you believe. And what you believe creates the need to protect it—through boundaries. Once you have clear boundaries, you can set strong standards. Those standards help you prioritize what actually matters. And when your priorities are aligned with your values, consistency becomes natural—not forced. That consistency is what reinforces identity, and identity is what makes discipline sustainable. This isn’t about hacks or hustle—it’s about building a life that runs on alignment, not anxiety.   Kate Hastings | Mental Health Coach 🌐 Website: 📩 Email: info@katehastingspodcast.com 📱 Instagram:   Mission Med+ | Dr. Kristin Oakes 🌐 Website: 📱 Text 24/7 or Call: 305-748-2517 📧 Email: koakes@missionmedus.com 📲 Instagram: Coach Kate for 10% off

I spent years showing up for everyone but me. Keeping promises to other people. Breaking the ones I made to myself. This episode is about the truth behind that pattern—where it comes from, why we call self-abandonment “loyalty,” and how to finally cut it at the root. I break down the difference between discipline and punishment, how boundaries start with values, and why healing has to lead to something bigger than just you. Because if your growth never leaves the journal, and your “self-work” becomes your full identity—you’re not free. This is about coming home to yourself, living with integrity, and treating yourself like someone who actually matters.   Kate Hastings | Mental Health Coach 🌐 Website: 📩 Email: 📱 Instagram:   Mission Med+ | Dr. Kristin Oakes 🌐 Website: 📱 Text 24/7 or Call: 305-748-2517 📧 Email: 📲 Instagram: Coach Kate for 10% off

In this episode, I break down why your wins aren’t sticking, your losses feel personal, and your emotions keep running the show. I share what used to drive me—chasing achievement highs, punishing myself for every misstep, and confusing shame with discipline. It worked—until it didn’t. I walk through the actual definition of debriefing, why it’s backed by neuroscience and performance psychology, and how to use it as a tool to stop repeating emotional patterns. You’ll learn how to reflect on losses without spiraling, how to break down wins so they become repeatable, and how to process emotions so they stop owning you. This is about setting standards, pulling out one small shift, and finally leading yourself like a pro.

You don’t live what you know—you live what you believe, and if your body doesn’t feel safe with the truth, it’ll keep choosing what’s familiar, even if it’s toxic. I used to say I wanted real love, but I kept choosing chaos, not because I didn’t know better, but because I hadn’t healed enough to believe I was worthy of better. The gap between knowing and believing is where sabotage lives—because belief isn’t built on facts, it’s built on repetition, safety, and identity. Integration is when your thoughts, emotions, and actions finally agree—when you stop proving your worth and start embodying it. So ask yourself: where are you living out a lie you no longer agree with—and what would change if you started acting like the truth was already yours?   Kate Hastings/Mental Health Coach  Phenyx.fit

This episode is a wake-up call. We’re not losing because we’re incapable—we’re losing because we’re skipping the basics. Everyone’s chasing hacks, aesthetics, and highlight reels, but nobody’s mastering the stuff that actually builds a life. Today, I break down what it really means to simplify, to show up with discipline, and to stop outsourcing your power to motivation or convenience. I talk about why consistency beats intensity, why your excuses are just polished versions of avoidance, and how getting back to your standards will save you from the spiral. This is about routines, not rewards. Systems, not hype. It’s not sexy—but it’s what works. If your life feels off track, this episode will pull you back to center. This isn’t just about getting better—it’s about getting honest. If you want to build a life you’re proud of, it starts here. Not with more noise, but with a return to the fundamentals. Listen in, take notes, and then apply it—because mastering the basics is what separates the ones who talk from the ones who lead.     Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  @coachkate1  Mental Health Coach      https://missionmedus.com

You build confidence by showing up when it’s boring—and sticking around when it’s hard. You love the process by trusting what it’s building in you. Not everything has to feel exciting to be worth doing. Most people chase the high—they want passion, results, applause. But real growth? Real self-respect? That comes from doing the reps when no one’s watching. You fall in love with the process when you stop needing it to feel good and start being proud that you didn’t quit. Unrealistic expectations are rarely random—they're often rooted in early experiences where love, attention, or safety were earned rather than freely given. As children, we absorb the unspoken rules of approval: be perfect, achieve more, don’t mess up. These rules become internalized standards we carry into adulthood, showing up in our careers, relationships, and personal goals. We think we’re aiming high, being disciplined, or pushing for excellence—but what we’re actually doing is reenacting a belief system where worth must be proven. This pressure creates a dangerous cycle: impossible standards lead to inevitable “failure,” which leads to internalized shame and dwindling confidence. This is the subtle art of self-sabotage. It doesn’t always look like destruction—it often looks like drive. You set the bar just out of reach, and when you can’t meet it, you turn inward and question your value. The loop is brutal: you fail to hit a mark that was never realistic, and instead of questioning the standard, you question yourself. The high-achieving mask stays on, but underneath is exhaustion, burnout, and a growing disconnect from your authentic self. You don’t feel proud—you feel pressured. You don’t feel accomplished—you feel behind. And it’s all rooted in the illusion that more achievement will finally fix the feeling of not being enough.   Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  @coachkate1  Mental Health Coach      https://missionmedus.com

Behind every high achiever lies a story most people never see—a narrative woven from unprocessed trauma and relentless pursuit. For years, I was fueled by a dark motivation: a survival instinct honed by childhood wounds that pushed me to perform, to prove, and to control every aspect of my life. I tracked every calorie, trained until exhaustion, and rebranded my eating disorder as discipline and wellness. On the surface, I had it all together. But beneath that polished exterior, I wasn’t thriving—I was merely performing. I wasn’t grounded; I was surviving. I realized that the fuel I was using—pain, fear, and the need to prove my worth—was slowly killing me. That dark drive, while it carried me through countless challenges, never allowed me to rest. It kept me in a constant state of chase, a relentless cycle of proving that I was enough, even when deep down I felt anything but. I had mistaken destruction for transformation, chaos for clarity, and performance for true growth. Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  @coachkate1  Mental Health Coach

Discipline wasn’t saving me. It was silently destroying me. Have you ever been praised for how hard you push—while breaking inside? I used to be the woman who “had it all together.” Disciplined. Reliable. High-performing. But under the surface? I was a storm in a perfectly tailored outfit. I never missed a workout—even when I was sick. I tracked every calorie like my life depended on it. I said yes when I meant no. I showed up for others when I was falling apart. I confused exhaustion with impact. I called obsession “excellence.” But what I didn’t know was this: My “discipline” was a trauma response. My “drive” was dysregulation. My “success” was self-abandonment in disguise. I didn’t believe I was allowed to rest. Because deep down, I didn’t believe I was worthy unless I earned it. Society clapped for my grind. But I was building a life on the edge of a breakdown. Let’s stop glorifying the grind that’s killing us. Redefine discipline. Not as destruction—but as devotion.   Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  @coachkate1  Mental Health Coach

The Reality of Emotional Numbness Most people don’t even realize they’re in it until someone puts it into words. You wake up, go through the motions, handle responsibilities, maybe even accomplish big things, but inside, there’s nothing. No spark, no deep emotion. The things that used to excite you don’t anymore, and the things that should hurt barely register. You laugh, but it’s hollow. You succeed, but it feels empty. Life happens, but you’re watching from a distance. It’s not just exhaustion or a rough patch—it’s emotional shutdown. It happens slowly, the result of years spent suppressing emotions, avoiding pain, and pushing forward without processing life. At first, it feels like self-preservation, but over time, it costs you your ability to truly feel. The truth is, emotional numbness doesn’t just happen. It’s a survival response. Maybe it started with unresolved pain—childhood trauma, heartbreak, rejection, or loss—where shutting down felt safer than feeling everything. Maybe you’ve spent years in survival mode, constantly overwhelmed by stress, pressure, or responsibility, and your nervous system adapted by numbing out. Or maybe you’ve lost yourself entirely, molding your identity to meet expectations, suppressing your real thoughts and emotions until the version of you that exists isn’t even real anymore. Eventually, you don’t just numb the pain—you numb everything. What if I told you that every time you allow someone to cross your boundaries, you’re teaching them that it’s okay to disrespect you? Think about it. The relationship that drains you because you’re always the one compromising. Hard Truth: This isn’t about them—it’s about YOU. Because people will always push as far as you let them. But today? That changes.   Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  @coachkate1  Mental Health Coach

Comparison is a thief. It steals your joy, your confidence, your momentum. It convinces you that you’re behind, that you’re missing something, that your worth is measured against someone else’s success. But here’s the truth: you’re on your own path. You are not behind. You are not lacking. The second you stop looking sideways and start focusing on your mission, you take back your power. Every moment spent comparing is a moment wasted. The people you envy? They have struggles too. The ones winning? They’re too busy working to waste time worrying about someone else’s progress. Winners don’t compare, they execute. So ask yourself—what if today was the day you stopped waiting for permission and started living like the person you were meant to be? One day, you’ll wish you had started sooner. So don’t waste another second. No more watching. No more measuring. No more waiting. The world doesn’t need another version of someone else—it needs you, fully owning who you are. So go. Build. Become.      Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  @coachkate1  Mental Health Coach    https://missionmedus.com

Failure doesn’t happen overnight—it creeps in when you justify excuses, tolerate low standards, and let hesitation win. Success isn’t talent, luck, or motivation—it’s discipline, execution, and refusing to negotiate with weakness. If you don’t control your time, distractions will. If you don’t audit your environment, mediocrity will feel normal. The people who win aren’t the ones who feel ready; they’re the ones who move anyway, track their progress, and outwork their old selves daily. Every decision either starves failure or feeds it—there is no neutral. Half-effort guarantees failure a front-row seat, but full execution suffocates it before it takes root. So ask yourself: Are you feeding success, or are you feeding failure? Because at the end of the day, you don’t get what you want—you get what you demand. Now move.   Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  @coachkate1  Mental Health Coach

Standards, values and boundaries on their own, are just ideas. They don’t define you—your actions do. Saying you value discipline, honesty, or respect is meaningless unless you have the structure to back it up. That structure comes from principles, standards, and boundaries. Principles are the internal rules that guide your decisions, especially when motivation fades or external pressure builds. Standards are the actions that prove your values in real life, holding you accountable to what you claim to stand for. Boundaries protect those standards, ensuring that distractions, people, or excuses don’t pull you off course. Take discipline as an example. If you say you value discipline, then your principle might be: “I do what needs to be done, no matter how I feel.” Your standard would be showing up, training, working, and executing, even when you’re tired or uninspired. Your boundary would be refusing to let external distractions—social events, late nights, negativity—interfere with your set priorities. Most people claim to have values, but their actions tell a different story. The real question is: Are you proving yours?   Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  @coachkate1  Mental Health Coach

Every single interaction you have sends a message about how you expect to be treated. Whether you realize it or not, you’re always teaching people how to treat you. People will only treat you the way you allow them to. Boundaries aren’t just something you set—they’re the blueprint for how people engage with you. Every interaction is a lesson in what you accept, what you challenge, and what you refuse to tolerate. If you tolerate mistreatment, disrespect, or inconsistency, guess what? You just taught them that it’s okay. Silence is dangerous—if you don’t speak up, you’re sending the message that you’re fine with whatever’s happening. People will push as far as you let them, and if you’re inconsistent with your standards, they’ll test those limits over and over again. Self-respect is the foundation—if you don’t respect yourself, don’t expect anyone else to either. Saying “no” but giving in teaches people your boundaries are flexible, and once they see a crack, they’ll keep pushing. The way you handle conflict tells people exactly how far they can go with you. At the end of the day, you don’t demand respect—you show people how to give it by what you tolerate, what you walk away from, and how you hold the line.   Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  @coachkate1  Mental Health Coach

The Hard Truth: Success Isn’t Comfortable If you’re chasing comfort, you’re not chasing success. Success doesn’t live in ease or convenience—it’s forged in discomfort, sacrifice, and persistence. It’s not about fleeting motivation or luck; it’s about showing up every day, doing the work, and embracing the struggle. True success doesn’t come from a single trait or effort. It’s built on the interconnection of resilience, discipline, and courage. These three traits don’t stand alone—they form a powerful feedback loop where each one fuels and strengthens the others. Together, they create the foundation for meaningful, lasting growth and achievement.     Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  @coachkate1  Mental Health Coach

Plateaus, those moments when progress stalls and frustration sets in, are not roadblocks but opportunities for growth. They force us to reflect, recalibrate, and prepare for the next level. Growth isn’t linear—it’s a cycle of effort and renewal. By embracing plateaus as a natural part of the process, we can transform them into powerful tools for transformation. Often, plateaus arise from two key factors: complacency and burnout. Success can lead us to settle into a comfort zone, avoiding the discomfort needed for further growth. On the other hand, relentless effort without rest can drain motivation and focus. Balance is key—recovery isn’t weakness; it’s the fuel that drives sustained progress. Breaking through a plateau requires a shift in mindset. It’s often internal fears or self-doubt, not lack of ability, that hold us back. Developing self-awareness through journaling and reframing limiting beliefs can help. By addressing these mental roadblocks, you open the door to new possibilities and a renewed sense of purpose.   Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  @coachkate1  Mental Health Coach

What does it mean to be a competent human being? Competence is about your ability to handle life’s challenges effectively by building the skills, habits, and mindset you need—it’s not about being perfect or naturally talented. It’s about showing up, learning from mistakes, and growing through action. True confidence comes from competence; it’s the quiet belief that you can handle what life throws at you because you’ve proven it to yourself. Competent people take responsibility, adapt to change, and stay grounded under pressure. They’re disciplined, resilient, and willing to keep showing up, even when it’s hard. It’s not about having it all figured out—it’s about knowing you can keep moving forward. Start small, stay consistent, and remember that the journey to competence is what makes you stronger.     Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  @coachkate1  Mental Health Coach

Discipline isn’t just action—it’s purposeful, meaningful action. Without a clear "why" tied to your core beliefs, values, and human needs, discipline becomes hollow, aimless, and unsustainable. True discipline has roots. It’s about alignment—anchoring your actions in what truly matters to you. Your values shape your standards, your standards establish your boundaries, and your boundaries foster habits that align with both your aspirations and fundamental human needs. These habits drive consistent action, creating results that resonate deeply with your sense of purpose and fulfillment. That entire chain of command reinforces the identity of someone who is disciplined. It’s not just a skill set; leadership isn’t just logic. It requires an emotional connection to purpose and people. It’s a way of life—it’s who you are.   Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  @coachkate1  Mental Health Coach

In a world where external validation feels like currency, it’s easy to tether your worth to fleeting approval, losing sight of who you truly are. Rejecting parts of yourself—your shadow, shame, or unowned truths—allows external forces to dictate your value, leaving you stuck in a relentless cycle of seeking and self-rejection. When your sense of self is tied to what others think, you sacrifice authenticity, living for their approval instead of your own purpose. This creates a disconnect from your true identity and keeps you trapped in behaviors like people-pleasing and perfectionism, which drain your energy and erode your confidence. True freedom begins with embracing internal validation, taking ownership of every part of yourself, and living in alignment with your values—creating a foundation of worth that no external force can shake.   Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  @coachkate1  Mental Health Coach      https://missionmedus.com

Resilience and resistance impact the development of discipline in powerful ways. Resilience requires us to face emotions openly, which strengthens our ability to handle stress and adapt to challenges. However, when we resist or suppress emotions, we prevent resilience from fully forming, which in turn hinders discipline. This is because discipline relies on emotional stability—being able to stay focused, committed, and consistent even when we face discomfort. Resistance disrupts this stability, causing us to react impulsively instead of with intention. By processing emotions rather than resisting them, we build both resilience and the steady foundation that discipline requires, enabling us to act with purpose rather than being driven by unprocessed feelings.   Resilience and resistance interact in complex ways when it comes to handling emotions. Resilience involves the ability to face and adapt to emotional challenges, building strength and flexibility over time. In contrast, resistance is the act of suppressing or avoiding emotions, which often makes them more intense and harder to manage. When we resist emotions, we block the growth of resilience, as unaddressed feelings can overwhelm us and disrupt our stability. At the core of every boundary is self-respect. When we set boundaries, we’re reinforcing the belief that our time, energy, and emotions are valuable. At the core of every boundary is a strong connection to our values. Our values are the foundation that keeps us grounded, while boundaries create the structure that protects what we hold most important. Without boundaries, it’s easy for others’ actions, opinions, or demands to push us off balance, leaving us feeling drained and disconnected. Setting boundaries helps us stay grounded in our values, ensuring that the relationships we invest in reflect our core beliefs. By doing so, we protect our emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being, allowing us to give to others from a place of abundance rather than burnout. One of the biggest challenges to setting and maintaining boundaries is our own mindset. Often, fears such as rejection, people-pleasing, or the need for approval prevent us from standing firm. When we let our insecurities dictate our actions, we end up compromising our values and feeling disconnected from our true selves. Over time, this can lead to frustration, resentment, and emotional exhaustion. The truth is, by not setting clear boundaries, we limit our potential and give away our power to external forces, leaving us feeling unfulfilled.   Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  Mental Health Coach

You’re here for more than the bare minimum—you know your worth and aren’t afraid to walk away from anything or anyone who doesn’t meet your standards. This isn’t about being unapproachable or tough—it’s about standing firm in your value and knowing you don’t need validation from others to feel fulfilled. You already carry that strength within you. You respect the balance of the masculine and feminine, knowing that both energies have their own power. You honor a man’s strength without compromising your own. True strength is found in balancing fearlessness with compassion, power with grace. You embrace your femininity while holding space for your vulnerability. A powerful woman stands secure in her worth, leads with love, and holds firm to her boundaries, knowing that resilience comes from within.   Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  Mental Health Coach

The times when you’re backed into a corner, forced to make a decision: Do you stand your ground, tap into your perseverance, grit, and adaptability? Or do you let fear and panic take over and run with it? Life doesn’t come with easy answers, but one thing that’s certain is that our character is revealed in the hardest of times. Whether it's a breakup, a personal loss, or facing two of the biggest hurricanes to hit Florida—I understand what that feels like. During those moments, you’re thrown into uncertainty, and you quickly realize that you need to learn how to navigate it. It’s not about avoiding the storm or pretending it isn’t happening. It’s about finding a way to remain calm inside, even when everything around you is chaotic. Because when your back is against the wall, you have two choices: Let fear paralyze you, or allow these moments to reveal just how strong you truly are. This is where perseverance and grit come into play. Perseverance isn’t about simply holding on; it’s actively choosing to stay focused and driven, even when everything feels like it’s pushing against you. It’s about grit—digging deep and finding that part of you that says, "I will not be broken by this." But what exactly is grit, and how does it differ from confidence? Confidence is the belief that you can do something—it’s that feeling that tells you, “Yes, I’ve got this. I have the skills, the experience, and the ability to handle this.” But grit, on the other hand, is what keeps you going when confidence starts to fade. It’s about staying committed to a goal even when the process gets hard, even when you don’t feel confident at all. Confidence helps you begin, but grit is what keeps you in the game when things get tough.   Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  Mental Health Coach

For much of my life, I lived in a warrior mindset. I was constantly in survival mode, always protecting myself from being hurt, being betrayed, or being taken advantage of. My identity was rooted in fear survival tactics, self-isolation, chasing external achievements, and proving wrong the people who told me I couldn’t do something. It’s like I needed that fight to feel alive, to feel like I had a purpose. When your whole identity is built around surviving, you end up putting on a mask to protect yourself. This mask hides who you really are, and it often looks like success or strength to the outside world. My achievements became this mask—on the surface, it looked like I was winning, but deep down, I was losing the real battle with myself. The mask is a way to shield yourself from getting hurt, rejected, or judged. Maybe you show the world a version of yourself that seems successful, like you’ve got it all together, when in reality, you’re struggling inside. The achievements or control you project to others might feel good temporarily, but they don’t reflect who you truly are. The problem with wearing this mask is that, over time, it becomes harder and harder to take it off. You lose touch with your real self, and it’s exhausting to keep pretending. On the outside, it looks like you're winning—getting the promotions, hitting the goals—but inside, it feels empty. The more you rely on this facade, the further you drift from the things that really matter to you: your values, your passions, and your true feelings. It becomes a battle within. You might be achieving success in the eyes of others, but if you're disconnected from who you really are, it doesn't feel fulfilling. The mask may have helped you survive tough situations, but eventually, it keeps you from experiencing true peace, joy, or connection. You’re fighting to keep up appearances, but the real fight is with yourself. The only way to truly win is to take off the mask and reconnect with your authentic self. It’s about letting go of the need to prove yourself or protect yourself all the time. When you stop relying on the facade and start living as who you truly are, that’s when you find real peace and fulfillment—not just on the outside, but inside too.   Kate Hastings Podcast  Mental Health Coach

We all know what to do—wake up early, eat healthy, hit the gym, set goals—but why is it so hard to stay consistent? The truth is, it’s not just about knowing what to do, it’s about who you become through discipline. Willpower gets you started, but it’s short-lived. It’s the quick burst of energy you use to resist temptation or push through discomfort. Discipline is the long-term muscle you build. It’s what keeps you going when motivation fades. It’s about aligning your actions with your values and building sustainable habits that lead to real growth. The magic happens when you close the gap between where you are now and where you want to be. Discipline rewires your nervous system, stabilizes your emotions, and allows you to lead yourself with confidence. Kate Hastings Podcast  Mental Health Coach

Often, we don’t realize how much our words matter. The way we speak to ourselves, how we speak to others, how we speak into our future—our promises, commitments, and daily conversations—all make up our word. Without language, who are we? This isn’t just about keeping promises. It’s deeper. It’s about how you show up in the world, how your integrity shapes your character, and how your word defines your reality. When you honor your word, you build a life of authenticity and power. Authenticity means being true to who you really are, even when it’s hard or unpopular.Character is the habits, choices, and morals that make you who you are. Integrity is staying true to your principles, even when no one is watching, and always choosing to do what’s right, even when it’s tough. _________________________________     Experience the Future of Health with Mission Med+ Experience Virtual Regenerative Medicine, dedicated to optimizing your health with Mission Med+. In a world that constantly promotes instant gratification and success, many of us find ourselves chasing happiness. Whether it’s through career achievements, material possessions, or social approval, we’ve been conditioned to believe that happiness is the ultimate goal. But here’s the thing—happiness is fleeting. It comes and goes based on external circumstances. That’s why we often feel like we need to keep reaching for the next thing, never truly satisfied. The reason we chase happiness is that we confuse it with contentment. Happiness is an emotion, sparked by a particular event or accomplishment. On the other hand, contentment is a state of being, grounded in peace with where we are and what we have—without giving up the drive for growth. However, one of the fears of pursuing contentment is falling into complacency, the trap of becoming stagnant and losing the desire to push ourselves forward. But true contentment doesn’t mean giving up on ambition or settling. It means balancing gratitude for where you are while still striving for more. ___________________________________________________________ Experience the Future of Health with Mission Med+ Experience Virtual Regenerative Medicine, dedicated to optimizing your health with Mission Med+. Focus, Discipline, and the Power of Choice  We all have the same 24 hours in a day, but how we use that time varies depending on our priorities, responsibilities, and tasks ahead. Whether you're a CEO, parent, business owner, or juggling it all, your focus is the compass guiding your productivity. True focus isn’t passive; it’s an active, deliberate effort. It requires consistency, discipline, and a clear vision of your goals. In a world of constant distractions—emails, social media, and notifications—it’s easy to lose focus. But remember, scattered attention leads to diluted efforts, making even the most ambitious goals seem out of reach. Success is often seen as the result of extraordinary efforts or dramatic changes, but the truth is that it's built on the foundation of consistency, not extremes. While extreme efforts may yield quick results, they are often unsustainable and can lead to burnout or failure in the long run. Consistency, on the other hand, is about showing up every day, putting in the work, and making steady progress. It's the small, daily actions that compound over time, leading to significant achievements. By focusing on consistency, you build habits, develop discipline, and create a solid framework that supports your long-term goals. Consistency also cultivates resilience and perseverance. When you rely on consistent effort rather than extreme measures, you become more adaptable and better equipped to handle setbacks. It allows you to maintain momentum even when the results aren't immediately visible. Success isn't about how intensely you work in short bursts; it's about how consistently you apply yourself over time. This steady, reliable approach not only ensures progress but also strengthens your character, making you more prepared for the challenges that come with achieving your goals. Courage is a learned skill—you’re not born with it. It’s like a muscle you build over time by exposing yourself, putting yourself out on a skinny branch, and pushing through tough situations. Courage doesn’t mean you’re fearless or delusional; it means you feel the fear and do it anyway. It’s about stepping up, even when you’re scared, because fear will always be a factor. Every time you face your fears and push through—or don’t—you’re reinforcing either your confidence or your weakness. You’re proving to yourself that you can handle whatever comes your way, and in doing so, you build trust, consistency, and discipline. And when you act with courage, others notice. Your courage lights the way for others. The more you practice courage, the braver you get. Facing challenges head-on builds resilience, grit, and confidence, so when life hits you hard, you’re ready to bounce back or handle the situation. Courage isn’t just about big, heroic acts. Sometimes, it’s as simple as speaking up, confronting a hard conversation, or not letting someone cut you in line when it’s easier to stay quiet and conform. You literally can’t grow without stepping out of your comfort zone. Taking risks and facing fears—that’s where real courage is born. Being courageous means being vulnerable. It’s putting yourself out there, exposing yourself to your fears willingly. Every single day, you have a choice. Will you act with courage, or will you let fear hold you back? Courage isn’t a one-time thing—it’s the small decisions you make over and over again. So, in reality, you will face pushback, be judged, or even be made fun of—embrace it. If you want a big life with big results, you need big courage. Get comfortable with those things, because they will happen. Failure isn’t an option for someone who chooses never to give up. ****   Experience the Future of Health with Mission Med+ Experience Virtual Regenerative Medicine, dedicated to optimizing your health with Mission Med+. We've all been there, trying to fit in or win someone’s approval, but when you live for the acceptance of others, you end up losing yourself in the process. I’ll dive into why we crave that approval and how it can turn into a trap that pulls us away from who we really are. We’ll chat about how our upbringing and life experiences—like childhood trauma or bullying—can shape this need to please others and how it can lead to living a life that’s not really ours. But it doesn’t have to be that way. I’ll share some thoughts on how to break free from people-pleasing and start living more authentically. If you’ve ever felt like you’re stuck in a cycle of seeking validation, this episode is for you.  Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  Mental Health Coach      _________________________________________________   Experience the Future of Health with Mission Med+ Experience Virtual Regenerative Medicine, dedicated to optimizing your health with Mission Med+. Your level of commitment defines you. Before building anything new, address what’s holding you back. Identify what you're currently committed to that's causing you to fail. You can't commit to something new while tied to the old. We can't build new discipline if we're disciplined in the wrong areas. Values need to be aligned correctly, and priorities must be set right. Commitment means sticking with your goals, values, and responsibilities even when things get tough. If you're not committed to yourself, you're committed to others, which is dangerous. You begin to live for others, mistaking busyness for progress. If what you’re doing isn’t yielding results related to your aim, you’re off the path. Being committed to yourself allows you to be committed to others and show up for them. Starting at day one is something we all experience, but in today's society, we often forget that. With the constant influx of comparison and the paralysis of fear, it's easy to lose sight of the importance of beginning, especially when faced with fear, anxiety, and imposter syndrome. Fear is built into our biology to keep us alive and safe, but when it creeps into the wrong areas of our lives, it hinders us from taking action or putting ourselves out there. Many people look at day one expecting the final success chapter, but that’s not how life works. Often, people either have an oversized ego or an unhealthy one. An unhealthy ego is full of pride, fear, entitlement, and comfort. A healthy ego says, "I can achieve excellence, I can pursue greatness, and I am worthy of success no matter the cost." There is a cost and payoff to everything in life. The cost of not starting is an unlived life of fear, weakness, and unfulfilled potential. Potential is the capacity to develop into something in the future; qualities or abilities that may be developed and lead to future success or usefulness.   Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  Mental Health Coach      _____________________________ Experience the Future of Health with Mission Med+ Experience Virtual Regenerative Medicine, dedicated to optimizing your health with Mission Med+. It took me years, but I am now confident in the things I'm not good at. When you don’t own your weaknesses, something else takes ownership over you. For 30 years, I believed I wasn’t smart, lovable, or worthy. I was strong in all the wrong areas, like people-pleasing, self-isolation, and suppressing emotions. These weaknesses tricked me into thinking I was a good person, but I was actually enabling harmful behaviors. Accepting my weaknesses as weaknesses was the turning point. I was a high-achieving, people-pleasing, co-dependent woman who thrived in chaos and pain. Pretending your weaknesses aren't there or masking them only weighs you down. It's hard not to live up to your potential because you're afraid to take the first step and look foolish. Reality check: we were all once beginners. I mess up all the time, especially with numbers and reading things backward. When we focus too much on our weaknesses, our strengths also become weak. My weaknesses no longer stop me because I own them. I learn, I grind it out, and I don’t harbor resentment or insecurity. Not taking action because of your weaknesses won't get you anywhere. You need to exercise taking action when you're afraid, and that means being courageous, authentic, and committed to something more. I built the strength to say no confidently by facing my fear daily. Over the years, I learned to love saying no because I have alignment, purpose, and confidence in my weaknesses. If you're paralyzed by fear, you'll find yourself in the same place a year from now, which is a major cause of depression and anxiety today. I continually work on tackling my weaknesses and say yes to moving forward despite fear. Embracing your weaknesses is about recognizing them, understanding their impact, and taking action to transform them into strengths. Every small step forward, even in the face of fear, is progress. True strength lies in owning every part of who you are. rue discipline is rooted in consistency and flexibility. Life is unpredictable, and when I am rigid in my thinking, behavior, and emotions, I stifle my growth. Adapting to new circumstances, scaling down when needed, and changing my approach are crucial for maintaining discipline. I focus on setting realistic, manageable goals that allow for consistent progress. I aim low, hit it, and keep building. This approach has taught me to view setbacks as feedback rather than failures. Great things aren't built overnight; they take time and adaptability. High expectations on an inflexible foundation will always crumble. My journey has been about learning to adapt to cope and ultimately thrive. I used to adapt to abuse, high stress, and what others expected of me, leading to burnout and self-sabotage. Now, I teach the importance of adaptability for mental health and sustainable success. It's about adjusting to the right things and avoiding black-and-white thinking. As Max McKeown said, "Adaptability is about the powerful difference between adapting to cope and adapting to win. Wounded feminine energy can show up as feeling like a victim, experiencing powerlessness, or perceiving yourself as weak. It may involve manipulation, being guarded, withholding affection, and displaying neediness. Shame and a sense of never being enough can drive you to overdo things, constantly striving to prove your worth. This wounded energy can lead to over-sensitivity, difficulty regulating emotions, and a toxic ego, making you aggressive, combative, and overly opinionated. Understanding the natural energies within us is essential. Feminine energy is about receiving and being, while masculine energy is about doing and acting. Recognizing and balancing these traits is the first step toward healing and embracing a healthier, more empowered self. It's important to balance masculine and feminine energies, knowing when to be assertive and when to be nurturing. True femininity starts from within. It’s a mindset, a way of being, and an outlook on life. It begins with how you treat, love, support, and connect with yourself, and then it shines outward in your interactions. It’s about being playful, empathetic, and compassionate, showing diligence and trustworthiness, and blending empathy, nurturing, and intuition. A feminine woman values compassion, teamwork, and kindness, bringing a balanced, peaceful, and joyful approach to life.   Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  Mental Health Coach      _____________________________________________________ Experience the Future of Health with Mission Med+ Experience Virtual Regenerative Medicine, dedicated to optimizing your health with Mission Med+. In this episode, I dive into the nitty-gritty of self-trust, which is so crucial for personal growth and well-being. Trusting yourself means having confidence in your abilities, judgments, and decisions. But let's be real, why is it often so tough to trust ourselves? What behaviors are secretly undermining our confidence and integrity? I’ll unpack the foundations of self-trust, like self-reliance, self-integrity, self-honesty, self-compassion, and self-confidence. These are the building blocks that help you trust yourself more deeply. I'll get into the common culprits that destroy self-trust: self-sabotage, perfectionism, seeking external validation, neglecting self-care, negative self-talk, and ignoring your intuition. These behaviors can really erode your sense of self-worth and make it hard to trust your own judgment. I'll also touch on factors that influence self-trust, such as fear of failure or rejection, low self-esteem, and past trauma. These issues can create barriers that make trusting yourself feel like a daunting task. To help you rebuild self-trust, I’ll share practical strategies like practicing self-awareness and reflection, setting realistic goals, staying consistent in your actions, using positive self-talk, setting boundaries, seeking therapy, developing accountability practices, fostering a growth mindset, and integrating gratitude into your daily routine. This episode is all about empowering you to take actionable steps toward a more authentic and fulfilling life. ______________________________________________________________________________________   Experience the Future of Health with Mission Med+ Experience Virtual Regenerative Medicine, dedicated to optimizing your health with Mission Med+. Jealousy is a rollercoaster of feelings; it's a complex emotion—suspicion, fear, anger, bitterness, resentment, you name it. But at its heart, it’s about something we want or feel we’re missing. It's a fear of abandonment rooted in lack and low self-esteem. It’s a signal that there’s an unmet need or desire in our lives. We often block these feelings with fear and comparisons, feeling like we don't measure up. Whether it's comparing ourselves to someone else’s success or feeling envious in relationships, jealousy can pop up everywhere. It’s often tied to feeling insecure or not good enough. But here’s the good thing about jealousy: it can be a clue that points us toward our true desires and dreams. In this podcast, I will talk about how jealousy shows up in different parts of our lives—from sibling rivalries to work competition to romantic relationships. I'll dive into how it’s connected to feelings of lack, grief, and low self-esteem. And I'll look at how these feelings can make us feel anxious, emotionally self-sabotage, or feel resentful toward others. I'll also talk about how to cope differently and treat jealousy with more compassion and love. So, if you’re ready to get real about jealousy and learn how to turn it into a stepping stone for personal growth, join me on "Understanding and Healing Jealousy." Let's turn those tough feelings into something that drives you forward.   ________________________________________________   Experience Virtual Regenerative Medicine, dedicated to optimizing your health with Mission Med+. Welcome to "Pacing Your Healing: A Marathon, Not a Sprint," a podcast dedicated to those on their healing journey. Healing is a gradual process that requires patience, grace, and self-compassion. This podcast offers insights on navigating the path to recovery, addressing emotional dysregulation, negative self-concept, and hypervigilance. Reflecting on my own journey, I realized the importance of pacing yourself. Many, including myself, bring an all-or-nothing mentality to healing, setting unrealistic expectations and being hard on ourselves for setbacks. Imagine running a race for 30 years and reaching the finish line, only to start your healing journey. It's crucial to slow down and see things differently. True healing began for me when I reflected on my experiences with newfound appreciation. Life's ups and downs can be especially challenging when constantly vigilant. Operating outside our window of tolerance leads to exhaustion and hampers healing. Remember, healing is a marathon, not a sprint. There are no shortcuts; the way out is through.   Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  Mental Health Coach    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------     Experience Virtual Regenerative Medicine, dedicated to optimizing your health with Mission Med+. Episode #204 KHP: I dive deep into the complexities of anger, exploring its roots, triggers, and impacts on our lives. Anger is a fundamental human emotion tied to our survival instincts, often arising from unresolved wounds and trauma. I discuss how anger manifests, from the fight, flight, or freeze response to its influence on our behavior and nervous system. We'll also explore how cortisol, released during stress, can lead to a sense of control and even shape our identity. Learn why anger shouldn't be managed but understood and healed, and the importance of setting healthy boundaries and transforming anger through compassion and self-awareness. Join me as I unpack these critical insights to better understand and navigate anger in daily life.  Kate Hastings Podcast  Phenyx Fit Mental Health Coach    _________________________________     Experience Virtual Regenerative Medicine, dedicated to optimizing your health with Mission Med+. Trauma affects us in many profound ways, often hindering our ability to play and experience joy. In this episode, we'll explore how trauma impacts the nervous system and why engaging in play is vital for emotional healing. I didn’t even realize I had emotions until I was 31—sad, happy, aroused. Let's start with the basics. When we experience trauma, our body's stress response is triggered, activating the sympathetic nervous system. This leads to anxiety, fear, and hypervigilance, causing us to split our personality in ways to protect ourselves. We develop patterns and cycles, turning our brain and body into a computer-like state, constantly processing and reacting. Unlike traditional talk therapy, play therapy allows individuals to reconnect with their natural inclination to play and explore. When we are in survival mode, our brain isn't focused on connections. Play helps shift us from survival to thriving thorugh PLAY!  Kate Hastings Podcast  Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  Mental Health Coach        _________________________________________________   Experience Virtual Regenerative Medicine, dedicated to optimizing your health with Mission Med+. I explore the intricate psychology behind the urge to consistently help others, often at one's own expense. The Savior Complex is not just a generous impulse—it's a deep-seated pattern that can disrupt personal well-being and relationships. This complex often stems from early experiences where individuals felt compelled to assume roles beyond their years, like becoming a caretaker at a young age due to parental absence or dysfunction. I will delve into how this drive can manifest in controlling and manipulative behaviors, as well as the overwhelming need to be indispensable to others for validation. We'll look at the characteristics common to those with the Savior Complex, including over-responsibility, guilt when not helping, and the sacrifice of personal needs to aid others. The episode also covers why individuals with this complex might find themselves attracted to those who are wounded or unavailable, filling a void within themselves.   Kate Hastings Podcast  Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  Mental Health Coach  __________________________________________________________________________________   Experience Virtual Regenerative Medicine, dedicated to optimizing your health with Mission Med+. KHP 198- We all face hard circumstances and moments in life that challenge us and leave a mix of often unwelcome feelings. We like to think that we can push them away either with logic or sheer willpower. We use whatever is available and the coping skills we have readily available. The goal in life is to identify, attune, regulate, and lead our emotions. For a long time, my entire life was lived out in extremes: two states, situational happy and deep despair darkness. Think of your emotions like a rainbow, not in extremes of black and white; there is variety and color to our life through our emotions.   Kate Hastings Podcast  Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  Mental Health Coach          _____________________________________________________________________   Experience Virtual Regenerative Medicine, dedicated to optimizing your health with Mission Med+. Welcome to episode 195 of the podcast "KHP: The Art of Surrender". In this episode, I delve into the profound concept of surrender and what it truly means to let go. Surrender is not just about giving up; it's about accepting and embracing reality without resistance. It involves releasing control and having faith that everything will be alright, even without my interference. Join me as I explore the roots of control, which often stem from fear, and how it can hinder our ability to live fully and authentically. I discuss the importance of letting go of past traumas, habits, and self-sabotaging behaviors in order to pave the way for transformation and growth.     __________________________________________ Experience Virtual Regenerative Medicine, dedicated to optimizing your health with Mission Med+. In this podcast, I share my journey of confronting the shadows within myself, drawing parallels to the process of developing old-school photographs in a darkroom. Just as darkness is essential for the image to emerge, so too is facing our inner darkness necessary for personal transformation. From childhood struggles to adult challenges, I delve into the depths of my own experiences, revealing the patterns and conditioning that shaped my beliefs, behaviors, and relationships. Through vulnerability and introspection, I uncover the misalignments and survival tactics that kept me trapped in a cycle of pain and limitation. ________________________________________________________________ Experience Virtual Regenerative Medicine, dedicated to optimizing your health with Mission Med+. In episode #193 of my podcast, I delve deep into the essence of great leadership. For me, leadership begins with understanding myself—knowing my values, boundaries, and strengths. I believe in inspiring and creating more leaders, focusing on what I can do rather than dwelling on limitations. Effective leadership, to me, involves positively influencing others, instilling belief in shared visions, and fostering long-term success through empathy and connection. I've always seen leadership as a journey of empowerment and service, not control. It's about inspiring people to believe in what's profitable for them and guiding them towards growth and success. For me, honesty, kindness, and respect are non-negotiables. I treat everyone with dignity and acknowledge that leadership is about translating vision into reality.   Kate Hastings Podcast  Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  Mental Health Coach        __________________________________________ Experience Virtual Regenerative Medicine, dedicated to optimizing your health with Mission Med+. In this episode, I explore the limitations of using restrictive food rules to combat emotional eating patterns. While it may seem like a quick fix to turn to food as a solution for emotional problems, it often fails to address the root cause of the issue. By recognizing these behaviors without self-judgment, we can begin to understand the patterns and scripts our brains are conditioned to follow. When feeling anxious, it's common to turn to comfort foods like chocolate for relief. While eating may temporarily alleviate these feelings, it doesn't address the underlying emotional distress. Stress, anxiety, boredom, loneliness, sadness, or fatigue cannot be permanently fixed by food alone. Realizing what your human needs are is a total game-changer. It's what I talk about in my program's 3rd principle. Back when I didn't even know what 'needs' meant, I'd just push mine aside and focus on everyone else. But here's the kicker: that whole cycle of neglecting our own needs? It's a trap. We may not realize how we've suffered by neglecting our needs as we try to understand why we self-sabotage ourselves on a daily basis. But when your sense of self is built upon a system of survival and your personality is shaped by trauma responses, all while trying to obtain something you've never had and don't know how to get, it's one of the most helpless states to be in. Let me tell you, I used to have no clue what I even needed. And surprise, surprise, I ended up with partners who couldn't meet those invisible needs either. It's like we're playing this weird game of emotional hide-and-seek without even knowing the rules! Think back to when you were a kid—what did you really crave? Or what didn’t you have that you've now normalized as non-existence? Maybe it was love, or just feeling safe and cared for. Those unmet needs often shape how we act as grown-ups. Maybe you're always putting others first, forgetting about yourself in the process. Crazy thing is, we can still get our needs met, but sometimes it's in counterproductive ways like people-pleasing. But hey, that's where my latest podcast comes in. Well, my latest podcast dives deep into this stuff. It's not just a chat—it's a game-changer. Trust me, it'll make you rethink how you look at yourself and those around you. In my podcast, "Trauma Responses: How Your Brain/Body Creates Safety Strategies," I explore a fresh perspective on trauma. Picture this: you're in a car accident, no ambulance in sight, and you're left with a concussion and broken arms. There's no help, no explanations, and no tow truck for your damaged car. You face a choice: abandon your car or keep driving it as is. This scenario parallels moments in life when we experience emotional acceints like heartbreak, conflict, or abandonment. We move forward without support, no emotional "cast" or support, therapy, and no structured recovery plan. We adapt to the emotional wounds caused by these experiences. Just like the car accident, we can't change the past, but what truly matters is what we do next, addressing and nurturing our healing journey.   @coachkate1      ______________________________________________________________________________________ Sponser:  Experience Virtual Regenerative Medicine, dedicated to optimizing your health with Mission Med+. In this episode of "KHP 184 - All-or-Nothing Thinking Trap: Finding Balance in Life," I dive deep into the pervasive cognitive distortion that has affected us all at some point: all-or-nothing thinking. Life's complexities can often seem reduced to two extreme choices, leaving no room for middle ground. I explore how this thinking pattern, also known as black-and-white thinking, can hinder personal growth and well-being. The podcast sheds light on the strong connection between all-or-nothing thinking and perfectionism, a pursuit of perfection that can lead to stress, anxiety, and procrastination. Moreover, I discuss the impact on mental health, emphasizing how this pattern can take a toll on our well-being. But the good news is that with awareness and practice, we can break free from this mental trap. I explore strategies to challenge this distortion, embrace imperfection, and practice mindfulness. Tune in to discover how recognizing and addressing all-or-nothing thinking can lead to a more balanced and resilient mindset.     Experience Virtual Regenerative Medicine, dedicated to optimizing your health with Mission Med+. Forgiveness is a deliberate decision, not a mere emotional response. It empowers us to transcend hurt and find healing through conscious choice. Kate Hastings Podcast  Coaching - Mental & Emotional Health Phenyx Fit

Healing anger requires a remarkable display of courage and sacrifice – forgiveness. This act of forgiveness operates through the heart, demanding the release of lingering resentments. It involves relinquishing the grip on memories and the past, even though anger has clouded the future. Such a release can be daunting, as it questions our identity and ego tied to that anger. It's an identity that thrives on blame and righteousness. Our reluctance to let go stems from pain weaving itself into our sense of self and connections with others. However, beneath the pain, you're not defined by the negativity it brings forth. Though we weren't created to hate, we also shouldn't endure abuse. This calls for a choice in who we wish to become moving forward. Remember, those who hurt us were once hurt themselves. This isn't about approving their actions but rather preventing their negativity from hardening our hearts. Life offers a conscious choice between love and hate, bitterness and forgiveness, resentment and peace, and division and unity. Embracing the latter leads to the gradual dissolution of pain's grip on your identity, replaced by the energies of compassion, empathy, and love.

Avoiding vulnerability can become a coping mechanism that hinders our emotional growth and connections with others. By shielding ourselves from vulnerability, we might temporarily escape discomfort, but in the long run, it limits our ability to form authentic relationships and stifles personal development. Embracing vulnerability allows us to confront our fears, share our true selves, and create deeper connections with those around us. It's a pathway to resilience, self-discovery, and meaningful experiences that enrich our lives.     Kate Hastings Podcast  Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  Mental Health Coach

People-pleasing is the habitual act of putting others' needs before your own. It is an energy-draining habit where one tends to take on too much to avoid disappointing others. This behavior is a 'reflex reaction' rather than a 'conscious' choice. Learned experiences of (reward/punishment) stored in the body act as powerful levers that dictate one's behavior & relationship to others.  It often is a coping mechanism learned in early life that has become so ingrained and a way of being that it's the default mechanism for how one operates in the world.       Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  Mental Health Coach Trauma Informed  @coachkate1

Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  Mental Health Coach Trauma Informed  @coachkate1 Taking risks and putting all your chips in is a daring and courageous approach to life. It involves stepping outside your comfort zone and embracing uncertainty with full commitment. By wagering everything you have, whether it's your time, resources, or emotions, you demonstrate a profound belief in the potential rewards. It requires a mindset of resilience, adaptability, and a willingness to learn from triumphs and setbacks.    While the outcome may be uncertain, the experience itself can be transformative, fostering personal growth, faith, resilience, and a sense of fulfillment. It is through taking risks and going all-in that we often discover our true potential and achieve remarkable feats that would have otherwise remained unattainable.

"You can't defeat what you keep entertaining" speaks to the power of our choices and habits in shaping our lives. It suggests that when we continuously engage with or entertain negative influences, whether they be toxic relationships, self-destructive behaviors, or detrimental thought patterns, we hinder our ability to overcome them. By willingly giving these elements a place in our lives, we inadvertently grant them power and control over us. However, the adage also holds a key to empowerment: if we recognize and actively disengage from these negative influences, refusing to entertain them any longer, we can pave the way for personal growth, resilience, and triumph. It reminds us that true victory lies in consciously choosing to distance ourselves from that which hinders us, opening the door to a brighter future where we can face and conquer our challenges with a renewed sense of purpose and determination.     Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  Mental Health Coach  @coachkate1

Avoidance and overcompensation are two sides of the same coin. Avoidance is when we consciously or subconsciously avoid confronting uncomfortable situations or emotions. On the other hand, overcompensation occurs when we try to compensate for our perceived shortcomings or insecurities by going to the extreme.     Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  Mental Health Coach  @coachkate1

Emotions play a significant role in our daily lives, influencing our thoughts, behaviors, and overall well-being. Understanding the physiological responses to emotions involves recognizing the various changes that occur in your body when you experience different emotional states. Emotions can trigger both conscious and unconscious reactions within your body, leading to specific physiological responses.  Dysregulation of the nervous system can manifest in various signs and symptoms, including anxiety, overwhelm, difficulty concentrating, rapid heartbeat, digestive issues, chronic fatigue, mood swings, and sensitivity to sensory stimuli. The hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, limbic system, and nervous system are interconnected systems that contribute to stress response, emotional regulation, and overall well-being. The nervous system is a complex network of cells, neurons, and tissues that coordinates and regulates the body's functions. Time alone does not heal the nervous system; it is the nervous system itself that heals. Time can create distance from one's authentic self and lead to counterproductive habits and self-destructive behaviors.

We lie to ourselves and others for a variety of reasons, including to protect our egos, to appear more attractive or successful than we really are, or to avoid addressing uncomfortable truths. We may also lie out of fear of being judged or rejected, or to avoid taking responsibility for our actions. We sometimes find ourselves in situations where we are committed to things that don't bring us joy or don't align with our values. We may feel the need to stay silent and not speak out. We may stay in jobs that make us feel miserable and not take risks such as travelling or moving away. This can lead us to feel stuck, upset and unable to move forward, leaving us feeling a sense of confusion and purposelessness. We don’t stumble into authenticity we need to burn everything that we are not to then have the courage to be everything we are.     Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast  Mental Health Coach Trauma Informed  @coachkate1

Belonging is about feeling accepted and valued by the people you associate with. In this podcast, I speak about why we are taught to belong to others before ourselves. Either way, the need to belong is inherently part of being human. The ability to communicate what you think and how you feel about yourself is critical. However much you improve yourself, you are always flawed in society. Living to belong to ourselves first frees us to live our truth.   Wellness Coach  @coachkate1

Have you ever convinced yourself that you won't be worthy or good enough until you achieve a particular goal?  Setting standards and having goals are extremely important in life.  However, when it's only motivated by that inner critic and unrealistic expectations, it's a formula for reinforcing the hamster wheel of your negative core beliefs.  (not good enough, unworthy, incapable, stupid, failure.)   Perfectionism is motivated by how things will appear and what others will think.  People strive for perfection out of shame, only to feel even more humiliated when they can never achieve "perfection."  You are so much more than your ability to impress others. Within you is a valuable, creative, and loving individual who longs to be authentic.     @coachkate1 Kate Hastings  Wellness Coach

Have you noticed in yourself a tendency to minimize your own needs? To not cause a fuss and keep the peace at all costs? These may be reflections of one of codependency’s main symptoms: self-betrayal.  Self-betrayal causes cognitive dissonance. This is when your heart and your head are saying different things. This creates inner conflict which is an invitation to address the issue that is out of alignment. If you are numbing out your feelings and denying reality, you don’t address the conflict. Breaking the cycle is about gaining self-love and self-worth. Know your value and what you deserve. Do not numb out your pain, rather learn to get your needs met in healthy ways.     Self-betrayal can look like: Allowing your boundaries to be violated so as not to be abandoned Going along with the group in order to be included Doing things to please others when it’s not what you want to do Letting someone else choose what you eat, how you dress Working in jobs that other influential people approve of, but you don’t like doing     If this is you, ask yourself: Why do I not feel safe to be myself? When did it stop feeling safe to be myself? How have I adapted to feel safe? How do I serve others and self-sacrifice to feel safe and not be abandoned?   Wellness Coaching IG: @coachkate1

Integration work is more than just joining a sharing circle, meditating, and eating clean. It signifies facing the shadow, all the forgotten, suppressed, invisible, and unintegrated mental material we left behind as we grew up and into the world.   At a very basic level, ayahuasca integration means cleaning up your act in support of your newly upgraded self. Job, relationships, diet, habits, mindset—all these are up for transformation in the weeks following ceremony. A second aspect of integration involves shadow work. Ayahuasca is a potent activator of the unconscious, bringing buried traumas, forgotten experiences, and rejected aspects of self to the light.  As we continue, a third level of integration emerges: the task of bringing soul to the world, showing up as our true whole selves. We begin to cultivate a way of being that is in touch with what really matters. Ayahuasca can be a very strong mirror.  She works in a way of bringing things up to the  surface, right in front of us. Giving us the  opportunity to face our shadows, traumas, regrets,  grief, and truly heal them.

You can begin to learn how lying was used as a traumatic response.  We only lie when it feels unsafe, to tell the truth.  In some cases, lying is the only way to avoid experiencing shame, dysregulation, or other unpleasant emotions if we tell the truth.    When I was a child, my father labeled me a snitch.  I was told I was fine when I wasn't, that everything was fine, that I just needed to get over it, that it didn't matter, that I didn't matter and that I had to get through it.  But my question to you is, who are you without your lies, suffering and pain?  Who are you if you didn't live or feel the desire to avoid pain? What possibilities would be available?

Gratitude  when it is possible. However, while some  from gratitude, for most it is challenging. The reason has to do with an overactive nervous system. For many survivors, the reactive part of the brain is in charge much of the time. This is not because they do not try—or do not want—to be positive. Their nervous system holds them in a constant state of  reactiveness. The pain of trauma has left them feeling “not good enough,” ashamed, guilty, injured, and unworthy. Living in a perpetual state of survival is detrimental to our health, relationships, goals, and overall quality of life. Stress is a warning sign; it prepares us to survive, whether by running or fighting the threat. However, it is not a condition in which one may prosper or live life with peace.  You settle for a lot less because you're frightened actually to put yourself out there. So you isolate and keep people at a distance. You avoid, overcompensate, judge, fear, flee, and hide. Survival emotions and behaviors are hard-wired into our brains and nervous systems. The choices we make, our actions, and our perceptions are all influenced by the dysregulated emotions we are experiencing at any given moment.     @coachkate1

Have you ever thought to yourself, “How did I get here?” Why do the same friends, relationships, and events keep repeating? Almost everyone at one point in life has chosen to overlook red flags. We’ve suppressed our inner voice, which begged us to break up with that friend, don’t marry that person, and leave that toxic job. You are not weak or stupid, but human. Trial and error will be a part of the healing process; we won’t get everything right the first time. However, we can learn from our experiences and make better choices in the future. Everything isn’t a red flag, but if you grew up in an environment where boundaries were not respected, chaos was the norm, and toxic behavior was tolerated, you might not see anything wrong. We disregard red flags because we are terrified of expressing the truth to not be alone. So instead of facing the agony of confrontation, we engage in denial and continue about our business as usual. But, on the other hand, what is more lonely than being with someone who makes you feel alone? Tune in to this week’s episode- link in bio Itunes & Spotify @coachkate1

I speak from my personal experiences and can say I have a Ph.D. in this topic.  By becoming aware of the patterns in your relationships, you can see what exactly you are attracted to. You cannot control what you’re not aware of. However, you can develop awareness and create new patterns. Why do you keep choosing the same toxic relationships over and over again? If you’ve been abused in previous relationships (or in childhood), you may have a hard time labeling abuse as abuse because you’ve grown accustomed to it and have learned to blame yourself for it. People stay in unhealthy relationships because they get accustomed to pain. The fear of uncertainty is what seems normal. They believe that if they stick it out, things might change. With a false sense of hope and desperation, denial will keep you in a state of one day someday. (aka waste years of your life) lol   If you have low self-esteem or are codependent, you may be unaware of your feelings, guiding you.   Toxic attachment is hard to escape the cycle of control- behaviors like jealousy, dominance, manipulation, selfishness, and desperation. Push-pull up and down affect is addicting to the brain. They feel personally responsible for their partner or their behavior due to codependency.

Abusive/toxic relationships makes you distrustful of others and yourself. You become sidetracked by how long you put up with a terrible relationship and environment. So guilt and humiliation rule your existence. You believe all men are bad. This kind of nice treatment is love bombing and manipulation, it can’t be real. You expect guys to leave without closure or to diminish your self-worth. But every day, the good guy shows he's the same guy. Someone has told you that you don't deserve the best. So you reject it. You don't want to be humiliated again, so you destroy the good. You're expecting a battle. Instead, everything is explained and discussed in a calm manner. Then comes a feeling of calm, and you understand that ordinary people don't retreat and destroy when anything goes wrong. He'll wonder why you apologize so often and for what. A traumatic experience impacts your perception of your life and yourself, resulting in psychological trauma. People with PTSD are continuously scared of their bodies, and they've honed their skills at ignoring gut instincts and numbing awareness of what's going on inside. By precisely placing long-acting local anesthetic (ropivacaine) around the stellate ganglion, the unproductive and chronic “fight or flight” response is turned off for several hours. This allows neurotransmitters in the brain to “reset” back to a non-anxiety state. This “resetting” results in long-term relief of anxiety symptoms. The SGB may improve daily activities, sleep, relationships, mood, employment and more. SGB works to reset the fight or flight system in the body to help restore function. People suffering from elevated fight or flight responses, like in PTSD, will benefit from a SGB treatment on the nerves involved in mediating these responses. Specifically, this treatments resets the brain to baseline or pre-traumatic levels.    IG: Coachkate1

Bold statements will almost certainly be met with resistance, and they may even backfire, resulting in a stronger defense of one's original viewpoint.   Positive affirmations do not work because they are directed at the conscious level of your mind rather than the unconscious level of your mind...    The unconscious mind is the archive for all of our memories and past experiences. And everything we are aware of at any given moment is in our conscious mind.   Every time you tell yourself something that sounds positive, your unconscious will repeat to you, "That's not true, that's not true!"  This creates mental and physical tension…It's similar to when someone compliments you, you cringe, too.    So instead give this a try!    “What if?” question generates no previous precedent, paradigm, or example, and the only knowledge that can be relied upon is brand new information.    Try "What if I love my body?"  What if I became successful?  What if I fell in love? What if I loved myself?   Thinking about what-ifs transfer your brains focus, allowing you to consider new alternatives and redirects your attention and encourages you to think about different options rather than dealing with a past emotional response.    “What if?” questions often spark creative and new ideas because they prompt us to fantasize or to actually generate new concepts.   One of the best ways to get your communication energy flowing is to rethink how you speak to yourself and adopt new conversational practices, including specific words and questions you ask yourself.

You've probably heard that the most important relationship you have is with yourself. However, how frequently do you hear of people who are working towards that goal?  We are born into this world and advised to find a life partner, but we are never taught or shown how to develop a relationship with ourselves.   Treat yourself, eat some cake, get your nails done, take a bath, and love yourself….That isn't love.   Recognizing, overcoming, facing, and grieving those aspects of yourself that no longer serves you starts there.    It's about living & following your deepest values and doing things that important to you while still making a difference in the world.    It's how you feel and act toward yourself, as well as the things you  say on a regular basis.  When you need it the most, it's being compassionate, patient, and kind to yourself…..    Have you ever wondered why it's easier to deflect compliments than it is to embrace them?   Tune into this weeks episode! @coachkate1

Just  like our physical health, everyone has mental health. Mental health and physical health go hand in hand, I believe that having one without the other and the meaning we assign to it is where I see the disconnect.  Physical health is the state and functioning of your entire body, and mental health is the state of your emotions, mind and over all daily feelings. ‘Mental health’ and ‘mental illnesses are being used as if they mean the same thing, but they are not. Mental illness can be classified as things like depression, anxiety, bi-polar, eating disorders etc. Our mental health boils down to our ability to solve problems, overcome difficulties, make meaningful connections, regulate/understand our emotions, thoughts and feelings. “Great” mental health isn’t about feeling pumped every day and super confident 100% of the time, it’s a daily watering of your highest self. It’s about  learning how to be compassionate and understanding yourself while developing the habits, systems and copping skills that work towards maintaining your mental health/illness at an optimal level. Mental health looks like …..   Getting outside Doing what you love Speaking to friends/family Challenging yourself/growing Being vulnerable Work towards your goals/ purpose Developing healthy coping skills Understanding your subconscious programing Healing trauma Being in a healthy relationship with yourself and others Exercise Treating yourself with respect and honor Being in empowering environments Support Sticking up for yourself and others Developing a belief and value system that works for you Sex/sleep Community Blood work Helping others Your food Creativity Travel Therapy Reading educated yourself Alternative therapy Setting boundaries Healthy Communication skills The list can go on and on …     This is mental health. There is nothing wrong with mental health or illness. Mental health is a lifestyle  To see a therapist or to get help is like having a coach for your mind!   Tune into this episode!!!! We live in a world full of beauty standards defined by external factors like the media and society. Have you ever stopped to think what beauty standards you are personally following and why?  Realizing there is a subconscious programing, that we were either born into or inherited by our external environments that shaped our thinking. Why are we following a standards that have nothing to do with our personal beliefs, values and level of standards?  How can you truly be happy by living and viewing beauty through a collective standard? Think about it....  I believe when you begin to question, de-program and re-program yourself to your own definition of what beauty is, you can reduce the amount of suffering and the limited views we've constructed towards this false sense of reality.  The beauty industry is a multi-billion dollar industry that counts on our weak minds, insecurities and drives us to distort ourselves to fit into some image of ‘perfection’ that will never be attainable.  Tune in! @coachkate1

I love speaking in metaphors and this episode is all about when you choose to pave your own path in life.  We are all on this journey called life, right? Every day we are working towards something and there is a path to that goal. The path others expect of us, or the path you know that’s driven from your internal GPS.   When you see roadblocks do you see a STOP signs or opportunities?   When you have to make a detour do you use it to your advantage or keep going in the wrong direction? Have you ignored your check engine light that’s been on for the last 100 mile?   You can’t fill your tank up half way and expect to go the distance.

Most motivation crumples under any test of hardship or adversity. Motivation is unreliable due the fact it relies mostly on emotions and external forces generating it. Motivation makes you feel like you can do something for the time being. While being driven keeps you in the game for the long run. Being driven is different. It’s an obsession that consumes you to act regardless of your circumstances or feelings. It’s a pull not a push. It’s choosing something outside of how you feel due to the fact you see the larger picture. Drive can’t be bought or sold. It means that even after you’ve arrived at your destination, you still won’t stop….. ever.

By challenging your current beliefs through action, will you begin to conquer your limiting beliefs. I think how anyone got from point A – to B wasn’t by thinking alone, it was by taking action. Or else we would all close our eyes and be millionaires with a 6 pack by now. How do you build confidence? You do things that require you to be confident.… and eventually you become that.  Of course, the mental aspect is just as important but where most people get stopped is in their minds. So it only goes that far…. The solution to that roadblock is getting beyond the mind and how do you do that? Action...

The way to building lasting habits is focusing on creating a new identity first rather than the goal. Your current behaviors, belief system and mindsets are a reflection of your current identity. What you do now is a mirror image of the type of person you believe that you are, consciously or subconsciously. To transform your behavior for good, you need to start believing new things about yourself and what's possible for you. “I want to lose weight”  “I want to lose 20 pounds”  These goals are centered around our performance or our appearance. Performance and appearance goals are great to strive towards , but they aren’t the same as habits.

Here in this podcast I share my life after Ayahuasca. Its been 90 days since I've gotten back from Peru and the trip truly begins when you get home.  Ayahuasca, although miraculous, is not a cure. She does not prevent us from having to face what we have avoided until we sit with her. She can only open the door. We still have to walk through it. Tune in to how I've been walking through the doors that have been opened for me and the ups and downs after Ayahuasca. My overall experience was life-changing and profound.  It was when returning to “real” life that I was  faced with what the plant showed me and for the healing to integrate I must become more conscious and make different choices daily. Creating new patterns of behavior and new ways of being is vital and it’s not easy lol Everyone’s experience is different I’m here to share my personal experience.  Nothing could be more beautiful & difficult, more terrifying, more mind-blowingly challenging than facing our own demons and shadows; the subconscious traumas and programs that create our limiting beliefs are the core of our suffering.

Once we are more in touch with our needs and values, we can actively align our lives to honor our values and meet our needs, using them to guide our behavior so that we are able to live more fulfilling and meaningful lives. Simply taking a moment to ask yourself what they are ?   So ask yourself: What are my needs? What are my personal prerequisites for happiness? Not what the commercials or your friends are telling you. What is your soul telling you? Do you need more creativity, passion, fun? More time in nature? Less stress? Once you’ve started discovering what your needs are, check in with yourself often. Are your needs being met right now? If not, how can you make that happen?

How do you handle failure? It is human to fail. It is human to make mistakes. So why do we shame and avoid it? Knowing how you handle failure is just as important as reaching success. Get clear about what you consider to be success first, and make sure that it’s your concept, not your what your friends and family think success is. Failing is life’s way of showing you that you need to improve, grow and shift your approach. But keep your goal and aim the same. It’s not about how big or small the failure is but how you react, respond, and process the result. Trying to minimize your feelings or distract yourself can be counter-productive in the longer term. One reason why some people find failure devastating is that their identity is tied up in succeeding. They view the failure as who they versus an external result.

Find an excuse to win, not to loose. The distance between where you are right now and where you really want to go can be measured by the amount of excuses you make or don’t make. Our brains are wired to keep us safe, and making excuses sounds rational to keep us out of harms way. Thank goodness we have the instinct to avoid dangerous situations, but it also keep most people from not really going after what they want. A tiger chasing you and you opening a new business, the same alert goes off in our brain. People say things like… I’ll stay in my 9-5 job because I have health insurance. Meanwhile your health is deteriorating because you hate what you do. But you convince yourself it’s safer to stay, because of the security, and pursuing your purpose then feels unsafe. God didn’t created humans to only live for health insurance. Making excuses is a habit. One excuse creates a landslide of more excuses.  This is the power of repetition. You don’t become unhealthy overnight. Just like you don’t become successful overnight either. Skipping the gym one night turns into another and then your long lost second cousins needs a favor and you can’t go again. You learn a whole lot about yourself when you dig deeper into your excuses. What’s really there? Challenge yourself and keep asking quality questions until you get to the root. Typically it’s a negative core belief that’s running the show.  Making excuses is saying no to yourself and the situation even before you get started. Say yes and find an excuse to win!

Wouldn’t you like to stop negative thinking? I know it’s unpredictable and hard to control the thoughts that pop into our head. It’s easy for people to say, “think positive” don’t be a negative Nancy, do your affirmations and all will be well…. No one said ever! Then you feel bad for thinking negatively and the vicious circle continues. I believe it’s more than negative thinking, it’s a daily story you identify with. When I was little they diagnosed me with multiple learning disabilities 🙄and I created a story about how I was stupid & incapable I was until about 21. I believed and identified so deeply with this story my entire life was a reflection of this one story. It took many years to deconstruct that story through rewriting my own. Not what a test or teacher said about me. And definitely not just sitting in a room thinking thoughts like, “I am smart.” When you don’t identify as smart person there is a gap, it’s as if you are speaking another language. Your brain and body doesn’t register it. What’s the secret?

Choose your struggles rather than letting them choose you. Everyone’s got struggles. We assume we should struggle less, but we actually need to reframe that. We need to struggle better. Life is about choosing which problem, which struggle is worth it, and then going for it. Most people only know what to do when things are going good, not necessarily when shit hits the fan. The people who are most resilient and handle struggle the best actually go further in achieving their goals. When you keep hitting a wall you build upon it to see higher, not as a roadblock. When you choose to struggle for something that’s meaningful and hard it becomes a personal gain. There’s no easy way to know what struggle to choose you just have to start somewhere. Getting used to struggle has practical benefits, too. In any goal, you are going to run into setbacks, failures and disappointments. And having the skills to be able to deal with that struggle effectively will keep you on the path moving forward.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we were just automatically born with our winning formula fully operating and functioning as adults…?  The winning formula for self-love, great relationships, money, mindset, health, career etc. Doing the right things, experiencing continuous progress, having the characteristic of being driven, disciplined and motivated. Wouldn’t that be nice…. Well, that’s not reality.😂   We all have this villain voice in our head that tells us daily we are not good enough, not capable, stay comfortable, you belong in toxic environments, you are your past failures, and even the people closest to us may be drilling holes in our boat not realizing we need a new crew.   I get it you’ve tried everything as far as diet, exercise, new relationships, careers but everywhere you go there you are with the same results, with what I call failing backwards.    There’s this battle within you can’t seem to conquer and overcome, filled with resistance, defeat, overwhelm, guilt and shame.   I totally get it and I’ve been there it’s taking me years to come to place I am a today, mentally, and physically and it wasn’t because I was smart and healthy it was the complete opposite.  I use to love doing the same things repeatedly over and over again expecting a different result. I was a pro at that.🤪    Your new formula won’t work with a new boyfriend, new job, new diet, and new work out plan why …. Because you haven’t addressed and destroyed your current losing formula.   The diet and workout plan won’t work unless you do, mentally and physically. It’s a system not one component.   What is a formula? a list of ingredients just like any recipe. What’s your recipe?    You don’t set out to make a pumpkin pie with pineapples expecting it to look and taste correctly. You not only add sh*t to the recipe that doesn’t belong, but you get upset when you see and experience the results…. That’s what most people do with their health goals.    Constantly in denial masking pumpkin pie with pineapples ….

How many times have you said it to yourself? It’s easy to forget that we don't have endless "tomorrows". Days become weeks… Weeks become months… Months become years… And there you are... still the same person mentally & physically when you first said the excuse. If you keep putting off the things you need to do for yourself and health… You'll never become that version of yourself you've always dreamed of. The game is to become aware... Understand why you feel that way... And work to improve the areas you aren't satisfied with. Attack, burn, and destroy those parts. Don't just accept your shortcomings as if there is something wrong with you... There are things messed up with all of us... But you need to understand this... Your life/health is an ongoing project.... A marathon... Start taking action NOW instead of putting it off until "tomorrow"... Tomorrow is for the knuckle draggers....

Without adversity we cannot learn, we cannot grow and we cannot find out what our true limitations are. Choosing to rise to the challenge of adversity is not easy, but it can be done. If you break up the huge challenge that you are taking on into small, manageable chunks, you will find the process less overwhelming. You will gain confidence with each step you take towards your goal. Then, eventually, you may just make your own masterpiece.

Negative core beliefs are not situation specific; they are generic thoughts and phrases that are triggered by certain instances. However, these thoughts will typically be connected to specific situations such as personal and intimate relationships and possibly general interactions with the public and work. For instance, if a person has been treated terribly in a past relationship, they may link their next relationship with thoughts of worthlessness or the fact that people cannot be trusted. These negative core beliefs are self-sustaining in the fact that the person will look for things that support their self-fulfilling prophecies and negative core beliefs. Any information that may prove them wrong is usually ignored and overshadowed by their negative thoughts.   Remember, negative core beliefs are the internal chatter you have with yourself daily. You can identify some themes by recognizing when your anger is triggered. You can do this by remaining mindful when negative core beliefs are activated Become aware of when they appear.

Everyone has their own definition of success, whether that’s high performance at work, increased financial means, having meaningful interpersonal relationships, fulfilling their passions, overall well-being, or a combination of all the above. Emotional regulation may be the “not so secret” skill! Emotional regulation is the ability to exert control over one’s emotions by effectively coping with these feelings in order to desirably respond to situations. In the past, studies have shown cognitive abilities relating to one’s performance at school and work. However, more recent research depicts a relationship to a boarder range of “successes” such as greater well-being, increased income, and enriched social relationships to emotional abilities. There are two paths in life: Should and Must. We arrive at this crossroads over and over again. And each time, we get to choose. Must is who we are, what we believe, and what we do when we are alone with our truest, most authentic self. It’s our instincts, our cravings and longings, the things and places and ideas we burn for, the intuition that swells up from somewhere deep inside of us. Must is what happens when we stop conforming to other people’s ideals and start connecting to our own. Because when we choose Must, we are no longer looking for inspiration out there.

Telling the truth is hard. Society is largely responsible for creating a false concept of “truth” to begin with and then coercing us into believing it. We learn what’s “good” and what’s “bad,” what’s “right” and what’s “wrong,”and what’s “just” and what’s “unjust” from a very young age. This knowledge becomes engrained and makes up a large part of our perceptions of the world. But not only do we have the power to change that its our responsibility. The small routines and habits that combine into the overall system of our life is what makes our goals into reality.  Most people start the process of change by thinking about the outcomes they want to accomplish. How much weight do I want to lose? How much money do I want to earn? But I think it is often more useful to focus on the type of person you wish to become: your identity that will have you achieve your desired outcome. The way to change outcomes is to focus on identity changes; so it’s not about eating less, or eating more healthy, as a behavior—but rather that you are now the type of person who eats better.

One of the most important life skills to develop, for those just starting out in life (and everyone else!), is the skill of self-discipline.It’s like a superpower. One of the reasons we don’t have self-discipline is because we run from the hard, uncomfortable things. We would rather do the easy, comfortable, familiar things. One small task at a time, push yourself into discomfort. See how it feels. See that it’s not the end of the world. See that you are awesome enough to handle discomfort, and that the results are well worth it. When you have discipline you can have anything you want!

We want to achieve and accomplish certain things during our lifetime, and for most of us, the passion we feel deep down ignites us and brings our hopes and dreams to the surface. What are you deeply passionate about? What type of work do you find engaging and truly enjoy? If someone were to describe you, what words would you want them to use? Yo-yo dieting starts when someone restricts calories one-way or another. This includes restricting carbohydrates, fat, bread, gluten, or meat, and the result is usually a few pounds or more lost. Then, because of the extreme calorie restriction, they eventually indulge in whatever it was that was missing from their life, and eat more than they would on a usual day  The guilt from an unsuccessful diet puts an emotional drain on a person and decreases self-esteem. Then, because of the weight gain, they will put themselves back on a “diet”.  The process is up and down with not only weight but also emotions. I have found more success with weight loss clients by avoiding “dieting”. Instead, create a lifestyle plan with a weight loss goal, and more importantly, a goal for a healthier lifestyle that promotes longevity and disease prevention.  It also helps increase mental health by decreasing the emotional drain caused by being “on a diet”.
