Steve Marianetti is a 1995 NCAA Champion for the University of Illinois. He was also a 1998 Freestyle Wrestling World Team Member for Team USA. Steve is now the head wrestling coach for Elmhurst University. In his tenure at Elmhurst, he has coached a multitude of All Americans and 5 NCAA champions. In this episode, Steve discusses how he benefited from studying sports psychology in college and how it helped him as a competitor in the later stages of his career. He also discusses how he now uses those lessons to help his athletes with the mental side of athletics. He also has fun making fun of Coach Curran's poor athletic ability.
Jakub "Kuba" Lubas is a current WHS sophomore (2023). Kuba is a wrestler and feels that wrestling has helped develop his motivation and discipline. He exercises daily, and finds joy in helping others build positive exercise habits.
Brenda Torres is a current WHS sophomore (2023). She has already qualified for the IHSA state cross country meet as a freshman. Brenda discusses her approach to developing into the best student-athlete she can be, and her likes and dislikes about her chosen passion of running.
Jennifer Roman is a current WHS junior class of 22. She is an extremely positive person and discusses the importance of sportsmanship and doing her best in everything she does. She also opens up about the challenges of equity and social stigma that women face every day. She has big goals for herself after WHS, and looks to get into the medical field one day.
Martha Szczepanski is a current WHS junior (22). She is a member of the varsity cheer team. Martha discusses the major effects Covid-19 has had on her sport and her life. We discuss what she enjoys about performing and what other passions she has had throughout her life. She also talks about the love she has for WHS and our school culture.
Ashley Mandujano is a current WHS sophomore (23). She has been a part of the varsity cheer team for two years. She has a very energetic and positive attitude. She has the true embodiment of a growth mindset and is always looking to improve herself and her skills.
Lizbeth Gutierrez is a current WHS senior (2021). She has enlisted to be in the Marines after completing high school. She is excited about the opportunities that the military will give her after graduation. She is also involved in several performing arts as well as a member of several different athletic programs. Staff Sergeant Ryan Green also joins in the conversation to give more perspective about the opportunities that the marine corps could provide WHS students after graduation.
Kenny Yoshino is a current WHS senior (21). Kenny plays football and baseball. Kenny is the youngest sibling in his family, and athletics was a major part of his family's culture while he was growing up. Kenny enjoys the different challenges that his chosen sports bring, and he uses the philosophies he has learned in athletics to guide the way he chooses to live his life.
Gio Tamayo is a current WHS senior (2021). Gio has been involved in several different sports at WHS, but quickly fell in love with volleyball in his freshman season. Gio is also an excellent student, and he holds himself to the highest standards in all aspects of life. Check out this conversation with Gio.
Joe Schafer is a current WHS sophomore (23). Joe was a first year wrestler as a freshmen and quickly fell in love with the sport. Joe discusses how much he enjoys being a part of the team, and the hard work that goes with it. Joe has developed a thirst for training, and he focuses on getting better every day rather than results. Joe gets most of his drive from his teammates, and he uses them as examples to learn from.
Rachel Delmar is a current WHS senior (21). She has won many state and national awards playing the clarinet. She is a diligent student, earning excellent grades while taking college level courses. She also loves to give back by tutoring students younger than her. Rachel also dives into some of the adversities she has faced, and her continual work to overcome those adversities.

This is our first student-lead panel interview featuring Ben Umansky. Ben is a 2018 WHS graduate. Ben wrestled and he discusses his wrestling career. As a junior, Ben's wrestling journey was an arduous one, and he gives insight into some of his ups and downs along the way. In this episode, he is interviewed by current WHS students Leo Arroyo (2023) Jay Rattahanattakul (2022), and Joseph Schafer (2023).
Luis Rivas is a current Junior (2022) at WHS. He has wrestled and played football during his first two years at WHS. Luis discusses how he has changed his life in a variety of ways including his physical health, his academics, and his belief in himself. He also discusses his long term educational and career goals. Luis' story is truly inspirational for anyone who has taught or coached. This episode was a joy to make, and it was a blast hearing all of the positive things Luis has going.
Javi Lopez is a current junior (2022). Javi plays football and wrestles. Javi is an extremely hard worker, and he is always consistent in everything that he does. Javi has not missed a practice in 2 years of high school. He is also a strong academic student that plans to attend a four-year university to study manufacturing.
Jatuthep Rattanahattakul aka Jay is a current WHS junior (2022). Jay was a sectional qualifier for the wrestling team as a sophomore. Jay has a strong love for the sport of wrestling, and spends lots of his free time studying wrestling and wrestlers. Jay was born in Thailand and lived there for the first 12 years of his life. He speaks about his perspective of immigrating to the United States, the challenges he has faced from moving to a new country, and what the benefits of living in America have been.
Leo "Chips" Giron is currently a WHS junior class of 2022. He plays football and wrestles. He has an infectious, fun attitude, and he is also a deep thinker. Leo speaks about mindset for life and athletics. He also tells us why being a Wheeling Wildcat is different, and why he is proud to be a Wildcat. Kyle Kong is a WHS 2020-21 senior. He is a 3 sport athlete competing in football, wrestling, and track. Kyle has been a part of the orchestra and choir. Kyle is an excellent student; he takes AP courses while also spending extra time outside of school preparing for his SAT. He is interested in engineering and is taking 3 different engineering courses this year, but also has interests in pursuing finance after high school
