Who or What is Responsible for Destroying the Western Comic Book Industry!?
Welcome to this week's episode of CultureScape, where we will delve into the self-inflicted implosion of the comic book industry. In this episode, we will be speaking with one Justin World, a comic book artist and YouTube host of the Channel @DrawandTalk about how he got hounded and removed from his publisher for meekly criticizing # ComicsBrokeMe.
But what led to the downfall of the comic book industry? How did a once-thriving industry become so broken? We'll be tackling these questions head-on, and discussing the various factors that contributed to the decline of the industry.
Justin will share his insights on the current state of the comic book industry, and how it has impacted the world of comics, manga, and graphic novels. From the Marvel Cinematic Universe to DC Comics' Secret Invasion, we will explore how the industry has evolved over the years.

Why does the MCU now suck? We explore. Hint: It's not the Skrulls & it's not superhero fatigue.
Welcome to CultureScape, the show that interviews the geek creators and influencers that built nerd culture. Today we have a special guest: Justin Watson, the bestselling author of the Timeless trilogy, a sci-fi thriller series that challenges the concepts of time travel and multiverses.
Like Justin, the host (me) Pete loves a good time-travel story, but it seems the sort of stories being told with these classic devices are rather bad; best example being the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
We talk to Justin about why he thinks the MCU is broken, and how the use of time travel and multiverses in movies like Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: No Way Home has ruined the storytelling and logic of the Marvel universe. We also discuss how other popular shows like Doctor Who and Rick and Morty have handled these topics, and what makes a good sci-fi story.
Also, Doctor Who, also Stein's Gate, also Chrono Trigger, and a hundred other popular time-travel stories.
If you love sci-fi and want to learn more about the science and fiction behind it, don’t miss this video. And don’t forget to subscribe to the podcast for more awesome content like this. Enjoy!

An exclusive Interview with best-selling Sci-Fi author Patrick Chilles as he talks about his latest book Escape Orbit, the state of nerd culture, and why being a nerd is a good thing.I know we are all sick of mediocre sci-fi tv shows and films like what we often see with Star Trek Discovery or the latest season of The Mandalorian. But while Hollywood seems to not care less about producing quality entertainment, authors and geeks like Patrick Chilles are working hard to give the genre and readers top-shelf stories. It's easy to hate upon nerds & geeks for liking quality science fiction stories in the face of so many mediocre products like what you find on Disney Plus or HBO Max. But according to Patrick Chilles, being a nerd and taking part in the incredible world of creative science fiction is really good actually.CultureScape YouTube: https://youtu.be/SiaVdsmaN4s---------------------------------------------------------------------------Sponsored by Baen Books & Young Voices. Welcome to CultureScape! In this exclusive interview, Peter Pischke sits down with Indiana Froskurrin Black to talk about her experiences at G4TV, her team in League of Legends, what went down at G4TV, and what led to her infamous rant.
Was Frosk, just a single person, really the cause of Comcast Spectacor's downfall? Frosk has never once been featured in an interview and has never been asked by the press about what happened at G4TV. Perhaps she was as guilty as believed or perhaps she too was in the dark as the rest of us, and just a convenient scapegoat for a network that had lost its way?

Today on CultureScape, I have a fascinating guest, if not a little controversial.
Vic Mignogna is a prolific voice actor, doing voice work in films, games, television, and seemingly every major anime production in the last 20 years, including his groundbreaking role as Edward Elric in Full Metal Alchemist. Brolly In Dragon Ball Z & Super, plus loads of other top-rate shows like Naruto, Bleach, Ouran High School Host Club, Digimon, Pokémon, Jo Jo’s Bizarre Adventure, RWBY, and much more.
If you aren’t familiar with his voice work, you likely are familiar with his incredible Star Trek YouTube show, Star Trek Continues, which has millions of views per episode on YouTube; in which he stars as Captain James T. Kirk and directs the production.
Mignogna is an actor who has always been good to his fans. He’s a popular guy, of course, but he’s also a devout Christian and someone that’s always tried to make Christ the centerpiece of his life. It’s why there are many videos online of Vic wishing people well. Like telling one fan happy birthday or encouraging another going through bereavement to hold in there.
This is why in 2018, at the cusp of a huge box office success, in what would become known as one of the worst cancellation events of the last decade, in Kick Vic, certain elements of the anime community started pushing a witch hunt to end Vic’s career, largely based on anonymous accounts from fans.
For this, Vic almost had his life ruined, his voice acting career cut short, his convention spots depleted, and he became a general pariah. However, Vic, too, held in there, and I’m glad to say things are looking up.
So, in this episode, we will talk with Vic about his career, his relationship with Christ, his love of anime and culture, what went on back in 2018, and what he’s learned and gained from this hard experience.

You may not have heard of his name before, but few people in Games Journalism have impacted gaming news and YouTube more than Alex Macris.
Alex Macris is the founder of the gaming news site, The Escapist.
He was banished from the site following 2014's GamerGate, in which Macris wrote that game journalist shouldn't automatically assume gamers as being toxic. For this advice, he was ostracized from the industry, his site canceled, and pushed out of the media game.
He is the president and creator of Ascendant, a tabletop and comics series these days.
Now he sits down with Pete to share what happened at the Escapist and why he has low hopes for journalism today. We also go through his career, his work as a writer, and what he expects for nerdery in the near future.

Orcs aren't' racist, Dungeon's and Dragons never radicalized anyone, and playing video games does not make you racist. These are general statements cited over the years as basic facts in the news media, yet they are almost universally wrong.
We interview Stetson University Psychologist Dr. Christopher J. Ferguson, who published more against bad pop-science fads than almost anyone. Ferguson is the premier expert in the United States on video game violence and has written extensively at Psychology Today and other outlets.
We go with Dr. Ferguson into these false narratives, especially when they orbit politics and nerd culture. Why politics is de-railing good science and how Ferguson would hope to solve the problem.

Description From Psychology Today:
Christopher J. Ferguson, Ph.D., is a professor of psychology at Stetson University. He is interested in media violence and, in particular, video games. He has been invited to speak at Vice President Biden's task force and a 2013 Institute of Medicine/CDC panel on the subject. In summer 2018, I testified at the School Safety Commission.
His research has generally indicated that exposure to media violence has little effect on societal violence. Ferguson has emphasized that media effects must be studied independently rather than taking a "one size fits all" approach. Thus, advertising may get us to switch from one product to another even if video games don't turn kids into mass killers. Dr. Ferguson is also interested in the sociology of media research itself...how political pressure, social, moral panics, and culture war can distort media effects research into "opinions with numbers."
Dr. Ferguson is a consummate geek, interested in everything from science fiction to Dungeons and Dragons in his spare time. He and his son are fans of the Lego series of video games. Dr. Ferguson also likes strategy games such as Europa Universalis. His career proves to parents once and for all, yes, your child CAN make a career out of video games...

Drug Harm Reduction works!
We interview Cato Institute's Dr. Jeffrey Singer, the addiction scientist / libertarian philosopher / top Arizona surgeon who wrote more persuasively about addiction, harm reduction, and the pain patient abandonment crisis than just about anyone.
Why is drug addiction so prevalent in the United States. Why should people, especially conservatives support harm reduction? Is Harm Reduction supporting drug use in disguise, or is it about meeting people where they actually are? What more can we do to save the lives of those afflicted by the scourge of drug addiction?
In our interview we talk about successful efforts to help drug users, how to best fight addiction, why libertarians are the ones that actually care about the mentally ill, and much more.
Dr. Jeffrey Singer is a senior fellow at the Cato Institute and works in the Department of Health Policy Studies. He is President Emeritus and founder of Valley Surgical Clinics Ltd., the largest and oldest group private surgical practice in Arizona. His principal areas of scholarship are health care policy, drug policy, drug prohibition, and harm reduction. Dr. Singer has been practicing medicine for more than 30 years.

We interview Journalist & Author Batya Ungar-Sargon, Author of Bad News: How Woke Media Is Undermining Democracy!
Why is American Journalism so corrupt?
In the face of the Canadian Trucker Story & the failures of US journalists to cover topics that matter to normal Americans, it's worth asking how did US journalism end up being so useless and corrupt.
In our interview, Batya goes through the history of journalism, how wokeness and progressive elite biases dominated US news and what can be done about it.
BATYA UNGAR-SARGON is the deputy opinion editor of Newsweek. Before that, she was the opinion editor of the Forward, the largest Jewish media outlet in America. She has written for the New York Times, the Washington Post, Foreign Policy, Newsweek, the New York Review of Books Daily, and other publications. Comic creators are finally pushing back against the subversive wokeness and identity politics ripping the medium and our culture apart. Mike Baron, with his new pro-police comic, “The Thin Blue Line,” is one of them.
You may not be familiar with Mike Baron’s name, but you will have likely enjoyed the influence of his work. Baron is a two-time Eisner Award winner who worked for DC Comics and Marvel and had a prolific run with “The Punisher” during the 1980s and 1990s. During his career, he covered everything from “Star Wars” to “The Flash” and “Batman.”
An example of Baron’s influence can be seen in the hit Netflix series version of “The Punisher.” Micro, the orthodox Jewish hacker, is a Baron creation, as is the anti-security state narrative. Indeed, some of the most woke comics creators today, like Gail Simone, cite Baron’s comics as significant influences.
It can’t escape the notice of normies and comics fans alike that the western comic book publishing industry seems to ripen more towards its destruction every day. Legacy characters like Superman or Robin get replaced with hollowed-out woke versions. At the same time, the storylines they appear in are sanitized and boring.
The industry continues to fall further apart as Japanese Manga sales entirely supplant it. The bulk of the sales in the western “comics industry” are now Scholastic books for 8-year-olds. Things are so bad major creators have left for the life raft called Substack. There are even whispers that one of the big two, DC and Marvel, will stop publishing comics altogether in a few years.
So it’s a big deal when notable creators like Baron get involved to right the ship and make comics fun again. In an interview with The Federalist, Baron discussed his latest pro-law enforcement comics project, the influence.

Today we break into part 1 of a 2 part focus on the current on-goings of the activities of the chronic pain movement.
We break into the little cancellation story of CreakyJoints & Dr. Anna Lembke
The world of chronic pain advocacy is an essential, yet admittedly, micro-sized universe. Roughly, there are at least 30 million Americans currently reliant on daily opioid pain medication for severe chronic pain, with perhaps as many as ¼ of Americans- the number of Americans with arthritis- necessitating pain meds now or in the future. However, despite the titanic-level mass of humans that belong to Team Chronic Pain, the attention stamp belonging to patients and their concerns in the news media and online is surprisingly thin. Therefore I find it perplexing when dedicated CPs try to shrink that lean attention bridge with well-meaning but detrimental efforts to control the conversation via somewhat toxic means. Using tactics that at the national level most would recognize as cancel-culture and bullying. Ultimately doing much more harm than good.

Halloween Special, 4 Ghost Stories by the Sioux Empire Podcast:
There are hundreds of ghost towns and forgotten settlements in South Dakota. Some of these abandoned structures still stand as silent monuments to the ambitions of men long dead. A few are now grassy fields with perhaps, only a graveyard to mark the name of a community long dead and buried with its deceased residents. Each of these places once thronged with noises of life and generated thousands of stories, the byproduct of the dramas of life on a frontier. Those stories are for another time. For it is October, and the grass is browning, the crops drying, and the earth is slowly dying. A ghost story is in order. But which ghost story? South Dakota has so many.
In this episode, four documented stories of strangeness and tragedy. The gruesome death of a mysterious foreign woman and subsequent haunting make her the first ghost report ever recorded in Deadwood. The Sisseton tell a tale of a valley where the earth bleeds and cries. A lady card shark plays her final hand. Still, she doesn’t seem to know it yet, and a man on the frontier kills his treacherous business partner, five years after his own death.

The Drudge Revolution: The Untold Story of How Talk Radio, Fox News, and a Gift Shop Clerk with an Internet Connection Took Down the Mainstream Media
This book is about Matt Drudge, the rather reclusive figure in national united states journalism, and how he and his website - the Drudge Report - changed everything completely in journalism and politics for the last 30 years.
Lysiak is a former New York Daily News reporter & he goes in a full-length interview with the Happy Warrior about writing the book and how influential Matt Drudge truly is. So much so that even top T.V. news hosts like Tucker Carlson & US presidents quarrel and complain about the Drudge Report as Donald Trump just did this last week.
Matt Drudge is a hugely important figure in American politics that no-one really knows much about.

At the time she famously said that South Dakota was “not ready.” But just over one hundred years ago, a South Dakota Governor would beg Washington and the private sector for help getting an emergency hemp industry started in the state.
The Story of how hemp went from commodity to oddity, to war hero, to menace to children, to war hero again, to menace, to a cash crop of the future is next.

Happy Warrior Podcast; Interview with Washington Examiner Writer & host of Beltway Banthas podcast: Stephen Kent!
Have you ever wondered if any of the professionals you see in journalism or politics are secretly closeted nerds? Perhaps Jake Tapper or Newt Gingrich are hiding an affinity for Dungeons and Dragons and are secretly reading comics after work.
This is a question that's been on my mind as of late, and so I contacted the one guy that would know: Stephen Kent. Kent is a reporter for the Washington Examiner and is the host of the best politics/news star wars podcast: Beltway Banthas.
We asked him about the nerds in D.C., and how their fandom affects their work. Stephen doesn't take a side in the fandom wars, but he does have an opinion about what they mean.
Then we talk about Star Wars fandom specifically and what lessons it can teach us about human nature and democracy. kent says Star Wars should help us to understand to be wary of human nature lest those on the Darkside take advantage of us.

Ep 57五七: How Corona Virus Collapsed the Comic Book Industry & Why it will never recover! Get Woke Go Broke!
In this episode, we go through the collapse of the comic book industry and how a crumbling business industry with an unsustainable business model got pushed into collapse by the C Virus.
If you’re like 1/3 of the population on planet earth, you’re quarantined and bored silly. Ask yourself, what are you consuming for entertainment? You’re likely binge-watching or playing a video game based on Netflix outages and Steam sales. You might be reading a novel. But what I can guarantee you aren’t doing is reading a comic book.
Sounds crazy, right? With Avengers: End Game becoming the biggest movie ever and our cultural obsession with superheroes, you'd think comics sales would be through the roof. Considering everyone is stuck at home, you'd think they’d be interested in reading the newest issue of Captain Marvel. You’d be wrong.
The state of the comics industry is the worst kept secret in comics, and the industry has been in denial for a long time.

Brigadier General Robert Spalding is an incredible man, he is currently a member of the Hudson Institute and can be found manning the Arm Chair Economist.
Until just recently Spalding worked for the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the National Security Council and was the Chief Architect of the National Security Strategy. Spalding worked with the Trump Whitehouse and is a top expert on China and the Chinese Communist Party.
Spalding left all of that behind so he could write his book: Stealth War, How China took over while America's elite slept. The book is an accessible masterpiece clearly outlining how the Chinese Communist Party managed to turn China into the immoral powerhouse it is today via swindingly America's leaders in business, politics, and technology.
This book is a masterpiece and can not be more highly recommended. It is a true honor to have Robert Spalding on for this interview.
