Have you ever wondered how 6 and 7 figure online service brands are actually built? You’ve seen so many marketers promising huge results and are now thinking, there has to be another way to scale …
On the podcast I dig beneath the surface to find the real reasons business owners have reached their revenue goals. The choices, the strategies and the big shifts they’ve made to get there. And guess what? They are NOT following the one-size-fits all formulas mass marketers will make you believe work for everyone.
I focus on finding the truth - the real business models, scalable offers and marketing tactics that build sustainable, profitable brands. And I do this on the podcast by asking my guests deep questions and sharing my own real time stories of how I’m scaling deep.
Most membership owners don't have a marketing problem, a content problem they have a messaging gap. In the mature market of 2026, people aren't joining programs just to "try things" anymore; they need to see a specific, measurable transformation before they click buy.
In this episode, we cover:
Stop the "make-work" projects and start sharpening your positioning. Success in today's market requires an offer that feels urgent and specific.
Ready to sharpen your positioning? Join the 2026 Membership Pivot live training on April 15th. I'll show you exactly how to pivot your messaging for the current environment. Register at scalingdeep.com/live
We've been taught that slow growth is the "safe" and "sustainable" choice. But what if your slow pace isn't actually strategic? What if it's just expensive?
In this episode, I'm challenging the idea that moving slowly is always a virtue. While I'm a huge fan of sustainability, there is a massive difference between a "slow business movement" and being stuck in a cycle of hesitation, over-preparing, and "make-work" projects. If you have a mission to reach thousands but you're spending your year perfecting a platform instead of your message, you aren't being patient—you're losing momentum, revenue, and relevance.
In this episode, we cover:
Slow growth is only sustainable if you're actually growing. Stop waiting for certainty and start building momentum.
Are you ready to stop stalling? If you're done with the "make-work" projects and ready to focus on the three pillars that actually make a membership sellable in 2026, join me for my upcoming workshop: The 2026 Membership Pivot.

A potential client recently asked me: "What can you do for me that AI can't?" It's a question every membership owner needs to be ready to answer in 2026.
Information has become a cheap commodity. If your membership is just a library of "how-to" videos and templates, you are in the danger zone. AI can brainstorm ideas and summarize data, but it can't provide the sound wisdom, nuanced context, or human empathy required to make high-stakes business decisions. In this episode, I'm breaking down the massive shift from resource-based memberships to results-based communities and how you can stay relevant in an automated world.
In this episode, we discuss:
AI isn't killing memberships—it's killing the undifferentiated ones. The winners will be the ones who make the member's next best move obvious.
The 2026 Membership Pivot Are you ready to evolve your offer for the new economy? I'm hosting a live workshop on April 15th to help you audit your positioning and ensure your membership remains an "obvious choice."

Is it the "wrong" time to raise your rates because the market feels tight? Actually, staying stuck at old pricing might be the very thing keeping your business from becoming sustainable. If your calendar is full but your revenue isn't matching the effort, you aren't just working hard—you're undercharging for your evolution.
In this episode, I'm breaking down the mindset and the mechanics of leveling up your pricing. We explore why a price increase is often the ultimate filter for attracting better clients, how to stop "nickel and diming" your growth, and why your experience level deserves a raise that matches the results you deliver.
In this episode, we cover:
Stop pricing like you're brand new. It's time to move from "affordable for everyone" to the "obvious choice for the right people."
Does your pricing reflect your 2026 expertise? If you need a strategic eye to help you re-position your offers and confidently raise your rates, let's get to work. Explore my VIP coaching packages at scalingdeep.com/coaching.
Entrepreneurship is often defined by the risks we take—not reckless gambles, but strategic bets made without the comfort of certainty. In this episode, I'm getting personal and walking you through the five pivotal risks I took over the last six years that moved me from a general business strategist to a highly sought-after membership expert.
I'm sharing the raw reality of what those bets cost, the moments I almost gave up, and how those investments (of time, money, and identity) led to my best revenue year ever. If you feel stuck in a loop of "playing it safe" while staying in the same place, this episode is a call to commit to your next big move.
In this episode, we cover:
The biggest risk isn't failure—it's staying exactly where you are.
Are you ready to place a bet on yourself? If you're tired of overthinking and ready to build a business you can actually lean on, let's talk. Explore my VIP coaching packages at scalingdeep.com/coaching.
f you're a creative entrepreneur, the word "routine" probably feels like a cage. You want the freedom to go with your energy, the weather, or a sudden spark of inspiration. But without a container for your week, your time gets decided by everyone else's agenda.
In this episode, I'm walking you through My Weekly OS (Operating System). This isn't about a rigid 9-to-5 schedule; it's about a flexible structure that protects your big, "chunky" projects while leaving plenty of room for life to happen. I'm sharing how I've trained myself to tackle the hard stuff first and why your calendar is actually the key to total mental freedom.
In this episode:
Stop running your business like a freelancer reacting to fire drills, and start operating like a CEO.
Ready to get unstuck? I can help you audit your business model and your schedule to find your unique path to growth. Check out my VIP coaching packages at scalingdeep.com/coaching.
Are you working harder than ever but still stuck in the same "feast or famine" cycle you were in years ago? In this episode, we're pulling back the curtain on why "busy" doesn't always mean "productive."
We dive into the two major traps—the Staller and the Hustler—and why both lead to a business with no durable assets. If you're tired of "make-work" projects and ready to build something you can actually lean on, it's time to stop chasing certainty and start setting Activity Goals.
In this episode:
Stop researching, stop overthinking, and start executing.

If you've noticed a slowdown in sales or feel like you're shouting into an increasingly crowded void, you aren't imagining it. The online education industry has shifted from its rapid growth phase into a "mature market." In this episode, we explore what this "shakeout" means for your membership or course and why the strategies that worked in 2020 are failing today. We'll look at real-world lessons from the "format wars" (VHS vs. Beta) and modern market disruptors to show you how to emerge as the obvious choice.
In this episode, we cover:
Is your membership ready for the 2026 shakeout? If you're worried your membership is too "vague" for today's sophisticated buyer, head on over to www.scalingdeep.com/map and get the Membership Maker Template to make sure your offer is as strong as it can be so it becomes the obvious choice in a crowded market.
What do you do when your membership sales feel like a slow trickle, or August hits and everything goes quiet? Many entrepreneurs think the answer is to "build something new," but real success comes from tightening what you already have.
In this episode, I'm pulling back the curtain on how I generated $10,000 in membership revenue in just four weeks this past fall. It wasn't a fluke—it was a strategic fix to my sales system that any solopreneur can replicate.
I'm breaking down the three pillars that made it work:
If you're tired of spinning and rebuilding your marketing from scratch every few months, this episode will show you how to move into the Optimizing Phase—where your marketing matches your audience and your systems run automatically.

As we close out the year, it's easy to get caught up in the "hustle for more." But after my best revenue year yet—and 17 years in the game—I've realized that sustainable growth doesn't come from doing more; it comes from doing the right things in the right order.
In this episode, I'm pulling back the curtain on the 10 most vital lessons I learned (or relearned) this year. We aren't talking about fleeting trends or tiny tactics. We're talking about the high-level shifts in positioning, strategy, and leadership that allow you to grow even when the market feels slow.
In this episode, we explore: * The Positioning Pivot: How a simple title change transformed my conversion rates and attracted my best-fit clients ever. * Caring as a Superpower: Why integrity and trust are winning over "big marketing hype" in 2026. * The Strategy Gap: Why membership owners must think like CEOs, not just content creators. * The Ready-Buyer Triangle: Why focusing on "sophisticated" buyers is the secret to a resilient business. * Micro-Optimizations vs. Starting Over: Why your existing webinar probably isn't "broken"—it just needs a refresh.

In this episode, Lisa breaks down the 5 Phases of Membership Growth and explains why most memberships stall when owners try to scale before the foundation is solid.
If your sales feel inconsistent, unpredictable, or harder than they used to be, the issue usually isn't effort or visibility — it's focusing on the wrong phase.
You'll learn how to identify which phase your membership is actually in, what to focus on right now, and why skipping steps leads to leaky funnels, burnout, and constant rebuilding.
Lisa walks through each phase:
Phase 1: Foundation Clarifying who your membership is for, what problem it solves now, and why it matters Without this, nothing converts consistently
Phase 2: Message & Positioning Dialing in language that makes the right buyers feel seen and ready This is where confidence (yours and theirs) starts to build
Phase 3: Sales System Creating one clear, intentional path to purchase Not random launches or always-open hoping — an actual system
Phase 4: Optimization Improving what's already working instead of starting over Tracking the right things and refining instead of rebuilding
Phase 5: Scale Only now does traffic, ads, and expansion make sense Scaling works when the earlier phases are solid

Membership sales are slowing down — and it's not your imagination, and it's not a personal failure. In today's episode, Lisa breaks down what's really happening in the online business world and why so many proven, valuable memberships aren't selling the way they used to.
This isn't about the model being broken. It's about buyer behavior evolving.
Inside this episode, you'll learn:
Most importantly: Lisa explains what is working right now, and how to shift your message, offer, and sales system so your membership can grow in 2026 — even in a slower market.
If you've been seeing lower launch numbers, higher churn, or more hesitancy from buyers… this episode will help you understand why and what to do next.

If you're planning to grow, relaunch, or finally get consistent sales from your membership in 2026, this episode is essential.
Lisa shares the hard truths most creators overlook:
👉 New tactics won't fix a membership that isn't selling. You can master YouTube, post daily on Instagram, start a podcast, or even run ads — but without a strategy built around your specific buyer, nothing changes.
👉 Your audience is not "cold" — they're unconvinced. People are more selective than ever. They're solving urgent problems, not browsing for extras. If your message doesn't hit the right belief at the right moment, they scroll right past you.
👉 Generic funnels don't work anymore. What sells is a decision-making journey tailored to your offer, your people, and the way they buy.
Lisa also shares stories from real clients and the different funnels they built — each unique, each optimized, and each producing real momentum because the strategy matched the buyer.
If you want 2026 to be the year your membership finally becomes predictable, this episode will help you understand what actually creates growth now — and what doesn't.

Most creators think they need more content to grow — more posts, more emails, more videos. But the truth? Content alone doesn't create buyers. Belief does.
In this episode, Lisa breaks down the five core elements that turn an invisible brand into a trusted one: specificity, relevancy, clarity, consistency, and sequentiality. You'll learn why some brands explode while others stay stuck — even when they're creating more content than everyone around them.
She shares a real story of a prolific creator producing blogs, emails, videos, and podcasts every week… with almost no list growth. And she reveals the deeper reason behind it: their content wasn't building the beliefs their audience needed to take the next step.
You'll learn:
If you want your content to actually work — to create momentum, trust, and sales — this episode is the blueprint.

In this episode, Lisa opens up about her early struggles with selling one-to-many — the nerves, the resistance, and the uncomfortable gap between knowing her craft and actually being able to sell it.
She shares the pivotal moment when she realized that tactics weren't the problem, confidence was. And how understanding sales psychology (and learning to communicate with clarity, resonance, and conviction) completely changed her results.

Black Friday used to feel like an automatic "yes," but this year… it's different. In this episode, I break down why Black Friday has lost some of its impact, what I'm seeing across the online business world, and why vague, once-a-year promos aren't landing the way they used to.
I talk about how buyer behaviour has shifted, why stronger messaging matters more than ever, and how to use this time of year to prep for a clearer, more intentional launch in December or January. If you've been debating a Black Friday promo, this will help you decide what's actually worth your energy — and what isn't.

If your first instinct after a slow launch is to scrap everything and start fresh — new challenge, new webinar, new funnel — this episode is for you.
Lisa shares why constantly reinventing your sales process keeps you stuck, and how optimizing what you already have leads to more consistent, reliable results. You'll learn what to measure, what to tweak, and how small improvements create big gains over time.

Ever feel like people love your content, engage with your emails, but never actually buy? You're probably missing a bridge asset — the crucial middle step that turns curiosity into commitment.
In this episode, Lisa breaks down what a bridge asset is, why most memberships don't have one, and how it helps potential members experience your value before they ever hit your sales page.
You'll learn how to create trust, connection, and belief — the three things every membership needs to convert consistently.

This week, Lisa dives into the most overlooked leak in your sales funnel — your messaging. She breaks down why audiences need to feel that your offer is right for them, how jumping too quickly into the solution disconnects them, and the simple shifts that help people say, "This is me."

In this episode, Lisa Princic breaks down the three invisible problems that keep great memberships from growing — even when you have all the right pieces in place. There's nothing wrong with being a coach, but that's not exactly why you'd create a membership, right? To have your members co-dependent on your response to every question? Nope!
This is a trend I'm starting to notice.
When memberships ...
1) Give away so much they make other profitable upsells irrelevant 📉
2) Replace the coaching relationship only you don't get paid for it 😒
This is exactly the debacle my VIP client had, until we retooled her program on Monday. She LOVES her membership but also felt like she was overcommitted to weekly calls + content delivery and had created a kind of co-dependency on her. Her model wasn't scalable.
She was too focused on responding to everything members asked about instead of leading them forward. Which, actually, as it turned out meant delivering a lot less to her members who couldn't keep up with it all anyway. Instead, she's creating a long-term roadmap they can follow. Dead simple.

Trying to decide between a live launch or an evergreen funnel for your membership program? 🤔 In this video, I break down the key differences between these two strategies and share which one may be the best fit for you:
✨ Live launching creates a sense of urgency and connection but requires more intensive effort.
✨ Evergreen funnels provide ongoing sign-ups but can be trickier to gauge success. I also share my own experience starting with an evergreen approach before transitioning to live launches.

If you're worried about starting a membership or even going all in on your current program because you're afraid of commitment, you've got to look at that. Firstly it's hard to get anywhere in a business without commitment. That is the honest truth. You need to go all in on something that you want to sell. However, if you're still testing the waters, here's a solid option. I'm sharing easy ways to do it inside my workshop next week. It's normally $37 but I'm doing it this one time only, for FREE. Sign up here: https://scalingdeep.com/method-launch/
You might think the answer to this question is super obvious but it's not. Business owners with different backgrounds and assets are in totally unique situations and sometimes it's better to launch a membership before building an audience and sometimes it works well the other way around. Inside this episode I share the pros and cons of each. Come over to my website and sign up for my free training https://scalingdeep.com/training/ so you don't miss my free announcement, coming soon!
Do you have a membership idea and are having trouble fleshing it out. OR thought it was clear until you started putting it down on paper. We often mash memberships and subscriptions together and use their terms interchangeably but they are not the same. I'll share the key differences and why mixing them up can backfire. https://scalingdeep.com/coaching/ #memberships #membershipsite #subscriptions
Have you ever wondered why people don't buy your offers when you know perfectly well that they've made a big difference for many and have received a lot feedback confirming this? If this is the case, then it's a communication issue. The fact that your program can solve their problem isn't getting across. Sometimes that's because your prospect needs help diagnosing their real problem and in this episode I share how you're going to help them do that, WITHOUT having to get on a call with them.
Do you think about who you're buying from and why they might or might not be the right guide. It's easy to think that just because someone has accomplished something they are the best teachers, nor people who get the personalized path to growth that's not a one-size-fits-all formula. And especially those who're teaching beginners how to begin when they are at 100x the revenue. They are so distant from being in that place. More on that inside this episode. I wanted to share some of my real thoughts on how possible it is to get a membership up and running and make it profitable. I go over the what needs to be in place and the assets required. And then come on over to https://scalingdeep.com/method/ where I'll teach you how to build a resilient content & sales structure so you can grow sustainably and benefit from the flexibility, fun and financial freedom from your own membership.
Do you worry about members joining for a short time, consuming your content and then leaving? If so you're missing the point of a membership. In this episode I'll share how memberships offer different value than courses, and how we can make changes to how we sell them to avoid that problem altogether. If you want to diver deeper with me on this. I'm teaching all of this and more inside my LIVE interactive workshop, The Membership Method. Learn more here: https://scalingdeep.com/method/
The riches are in the niches. Why is that? Because we don't have to spend as much time proving the value we provide within if we're the only shop in town. The more niched we are the more people just know it's for them. Jenny Johnson shares her journey of moving from being a Health Coach to running a successful membership. She shares the structure of it, how she engages with her members and manages calls as well as how she moved from a Facebook Group to Mighty Network.

Do you wonder what the secret is to membership retention? People will tell you about all the tricks and & ploys to entice members into staying another month or another year. But is that what really works? Not really. When people are evaluating whether or not to invest they need to feel like it's the best investment and they'll do that because they get value and feel it. That requires gaining their trust ... but they have to get to know you first.
This is one of my favourite interviews with another membership business owner. Andrea Jones of Savvy Social School. She doesn't hold back explaining how she keeps her membership going alongside a completely different type of offer, including how she keeps it up-to-date in the ever changing world of social media and what happened she got off Facebook and switched to Circle.
It feels early to be talking about end of the year stuff but I keep circling back to how I'm feeling about it. I'm finally getting my s*%! together as a business owner. I can, more or less, predict what 2024 will look like. A total first for me. 😅 And it's because I've made decisions. Most of them were good ones. My superpower this year is making quick decisions and implementing changes just as fast and now I have data to back me up. Listen to hear the 5 best decisions I've made all year.
I've had so much fun coming back from my mastermind and diving into my numbers. Just before I left I wrapped up a challenge. I made an assumption that it didn't do so well. Until I came back, analyzed the details & realized I did a bit better than I originally thought. And it was profitable and totally scalable. In this episode I give the breakdown of why small & predictable margins are the real strategy behind sustained growth. Woohoo!
We can't grow what we can't track. It's as simple as that. In this episode, I've provide the three most important numbers to track in your membership so you can make good decisions on what to optimize and grow.
Join the Membership Multiplier bootcamp next week so we can hold space to design a membership together. https://scalingdeep.com/bootcamp/
This is a long episode but it's meaty. Kelsey and I dive in and discuss how she evolved her successful course business and create long-term value with a membership. Inside are a lot of copywriting techniques for appealing to your ideal clients and how she uses her course feedback to get insights into what her clients want and how they talk about it. Check out her BYOB membership here: https://kelseyformost.com/membership
That's it! I'm not putting pressure on myself to get on all the socials just because i know it would be "good for visibility". I'm someone who likes to go deep on things, so trying to do broad, short fleeting things is counter-intuitive to me and takes up the bandwidth I have for the stuff I really like to do and in the quality way my brand reputation rests on. I explain all of that in this episode, what it means and examples of what this looks like. I think this is the start of great things to come.
As a strategist I get to work with a lot of membership business' who come to me with different problems, and many don't have the problem they think they have. Listen in on some examples of recent sessions I've had (all in the last week) and how I've helped them identify what's really going on and what they actually need to move forward. I'm currently doing membership audits, for only the next two weeks. Grab your session here and get excited about the next steps. Have you ever looked 5-10 years ahead and wondered what your life would look like with your membership still in full swing? In this interview, we get the full scoop from Lynda Monk of the International Association for Journal Writing. She walks us through her origin story, the value of her membership and how she's grown it for the last 6 years. This episode is packed full of strategies and tips that can provide all of us with ideas and a reality check about what we have to do to building a lasting membership.
One of the members of the Scaling Deep Society asked me how much co-creation she should do with the first cohort in her new membership. My answer is inside this video. While I love co-creation as a cornerstone and benefit of the membership model, I firmly believe that as program guides and experts in our topic, we need to provide the foundational blueprint they can follow to get the results we're promising them.
Listen to find out how structured guidance and co-creation fit together.

Do you identify more as a coach or a niche expert? Most of us are more comfortable in one space than another and each of those roles brings a unique trap that we get caught in which prevents us from creating a strong connection with our audience. My guest today is a true quickstart and a force to watch. A former primary school teacher, Yadsia decided to sell products, binged watched YouTube to teach herself how to do Facebook ads and eventually launched her membership, almost impulsivly, during a colleagues summit that she sponsored.
In just 4 months she's grown her membership to almost 300 people. We talked about everything from how she built her list, her content and special sauce inside her program and show she can improve her conversion rates.

Do you think about starting a membership program but wonder if your idea is good enough? Or how you could create something that has enough substance to keep members excited to stay long-term? In this podcast I'm sharing 3 types of membership containers that all work and might be a better fit for you depending on what topic you're teaching or helping members develop better skills in.
I also talk about my latest mini-launch with new pricing options for the Scaling Deep Society and how it went. To work on your own membership design & growth plan, invest in a VIP day here: https://scalingdeep.com/coaching/
Meg Casebolt is one of those down to earth people you could spend hours talking to about everything under the sun. And we did just that, big time. She's an SEO expert who has & teaches good boundaries around social media and just launched a book called "Social Slowdow". We talk about how her membership emerged and has evolved to a hybrid type program where the cost to join has reduced over time. It just goes to show you how, there's no one right way. And when you find it, even that will change.
This is a tell-all episode in which I share my story on recent changes to my membership as well as my recent epiphanies on membership pricing. I will share my ONE pricing rule, 3 common mistakes, and give an update on the pricing changes I've made for my own membership and why. I also announce that my special training "3 secrets for a wildly successful membership" is open for a few days and so is the Society. So if you missed it, you can watch for a limited time right here: https://scalingdeep.com/successful-membership/
A couple of weeks ago I had a small, but slightly annoying new issue showing up in my business. It was arounds payments. Less people were paying in full, more monthly, and that was creating greater risk for failure. So I posed the question to my mastermind and ended up with insights that fixed a way bigger problem with how I was selling my programs. The thread in my group led me to two new options and my back & forth Voxer convo with my mentor (still ongoing) helped me to pick one that would be the easiest to implement.
Getting unstuck quickly is critical because we need to implement our pivots, especially those that let us sell wholeheartedly again. Listen to this episode to go deeper on this philosophy and and gain an understanding on how it will help you get where you want to go faster.
My guest today, Kimberly Costa had a membership called Designing Delightfully which was born out of her passion for illustrating https://kimberlycosta.com/. She's been a member of the Scaling Deep Society for the lsat 6 months and grown her membership through summits. She talks about her deliverables inside the membership, her pricing choice and why summits are working for her so well. If you have a desire to run a membership that directly utilizes your super power, you won't want to miss this one.
I'm long overdue putting out a podcast on membership retention. Retention is an important way to build profitability into your programs because we can get a higher return from keeping people in our world than by always have to find new people to welcome in. Plus your long-term member are your super-users, big fans and really just fun people to keep in your world. In this episode
I've pulled out 3 main strategies from this brand new article on my website https://scalingdeep.com/membership-retention-strategies/ which will help you identify why it's happening and what you can do about it.
Just because we have recurring revenue through a membership, doesn't mean don't get in different cycles of growth. Some days I can't believe how well everything is going, while the next week I'm wondering what's going wrong. Getting used to these cycles of change are a good idea. We shouldn't overreact or pivot based on any short-term changes. Instead, let's figure out how to use our time to best serve our long-term vision. Listen for how I'm planning my projects this summer and using my time well.

Would you believe that the smallest of online businesses are the ones that need automation the most? In this episode I explain what it is, why it's so important for growth-oriented entrepreneurs and how to embrace it. We are far too small to have a big team but we still need to accomplish so really big things. Things that only we can do, which is why we have to leave the admin to someone or something else. To find which ones I use for my business and love visit https://scalingdeep.com/resources/
I'm on a quest to help all the expert service providers of the world get better at sales and sales funnels. I hear over and over again people telling me they have a visibility problem when they actually need to work on the sales part of their funnel more than getting in front of more people. Which is why I'm trying to get all of my clients and members fall in love with the F word. No not THAT f-word -- Funnel!! I explain what funnels are and share a couple of examples of them in this episode. In today's episode of the Scaling Deep podcast we have a special guest, Diann Wingert of the Driven Woman podcast https://www.diannwingertcoaching.com/ receives coaching from me on how she could add a membership to her business including who it's for and when in their customer journey she'd invite them to join. This is a perfect episode for those who are interested in adding a membership or group program to their one-on-one practice. It's full of all the choices we have & decisions required in order to take the leap and be successful. One of the questions that stumps people from starting memberships is how it fits within their other offers. What is the best offer to have alongside a membership program? How do you sell them both? I address that inside this episode and go over the details of my favourite offer, my one-on-one VIP packages and why I love them so much. Check out my VIP Business Design session here: https://scalingdeep.com/coaching/ The price is going up soon so book a consult if you want to lock in the current rate.
Have you hesitated starting your membership because you don't have a big audience? Perhaps you only have 100 people on your list? Well, not everyone begins their membership journey with all the stars aligned perfectly.
Lex Roman of Growth Trackers is a long-term member of the Scaling Deep Society and she was super excited about helping people through a membership model and didn't have a big list. In this episode she shares everything about how she connects with prospects, new members using a high-touch approach that builds a strong connection to her members.
This is an in-depth tell-all discussion where you can see what's it's like to build your program one-by-one! Check out Lex's membership at https://growthtrackers.co/
Do you have a membership idea and didn't launch it because you started to doubt it? Or maybe you already have a program and it's been harder to get sales than you predicted. Well, here are some ways to help you enhance the appeal of your membership offer. I share real ways to add irresistibility to your offer, using relatability and specificity so you can narrow it and create more compelling reasons for people to buy in. It's just a taste of what I'll share with you inside the Membership Method workshop. https://scalingdeep.com/method/
I'm always telling people that memberships are super easily to run. Most of the confusion comes with figuring out the best design and deliverables and then getting more members. Maria Carras-Woollard loves running her Inner Circle for Virtual Assistants membership because of how much flexibility she's gets from having a structure that this type of offer provides. We talked about her journey, how she launched and what she's doing in her sales and marketing now. This episode is full of growth strategies, she doesn't hold anything back! Let me help you figure out how to ditch overdelivery during my next Membership Method workshop which you can register for here: https://scalingdeep.com/method/
This is it my friends. The only thing that every one of us needs to have alongside our scaling journey. It's an objective mindset. Because from what I'm learning from my own my experiences lately plus those of my high 6 and 7 figure online business colleagues, it's not how perfect you get it the first time. It's all about how quickly you can recover from the fails and make the thing you want to happen (likely sales!) work.
That's what I'm talking about in this episode. And when you have that foundation in place and are ready to design your membership, come on over here https://scalingdeep.com/method/ and get started!
Do you ever wonder how niched you can go? Very! Especially if you have a community based membership where people from all over the world can connect on something unique. Jenny Hughes has done this for trauma therapists. And she's been building this group alongside her other work. Have a listen to this episode to find out how simple it can be to run a membership group that doesn't take up a lot of your time, and scratches your own itch. Love to overdeliver? Then listen up because today I'm addressing the myth that you have to solve all your members problems inside the membership. I'm going to share why this isn't possible and what you can do instead to get your members the support they really need. I'm previewing my method for helping membership business owners gain confidence and see growth inside the Membership Method workshop. Sign up here: https://scalingdeep.com/high-ticket-membership/
This is a great episode if you want lessons from someone who started a membership that wasn't ultimately sustainable, closed it down and then started it again. Noelle D'Intino from the Directors Club shares her full membership journey from when she started her program in 2013 to now. We talked about how the idea was born, how she first got it started, why she was killing herself with content creation and what it took to start it up again. Hint, charging more and giving just the right amount to her members.
It's so valuable to learn from others mistakes and how they corrected them to create sustainable programs they love. If you want a chance to ask questions about your own membership idea or plans, don't miss out on my upcoming Membership Method workshop coming soon https://scalingdeep.com/high-ticket-membership/
Have you put too much stock into how you're feeling about a result or even how you're feeling on a particular day? Our emotions can affect our decisions too much because we can grasp on to a tiny negative detail that influences our next step, instead of looking at the entire picture from an objective perspective. How do we do that? By tracking our numbers, we can paint a truer picture of how well things are working and what we need to fix or do more of. I share how I'm using them to guide my decisions towards easier growth. Get signed up to www.scalingdeep.com to learn more about my upcoming workshop: The Membership Method.
I loved this conversation with Braden Drake who created ProfitRx, a membership that helps people manage their taxes. We flowed from transitioning from a course to a membership, pricing decisions to delivering a service inside and then wrapped up with Lifetime Value. It's all in here including the numbers. If you want to see what it's like to run a successful almost 6 figure membership, you'll love this episode too! And if you want to know what it takes to build a high-ticket membership, check out my upcoming workshop, High-Ticket Membership Method. https://scalingdeep.com/high-ticket-membership/
This month, I moved my membership from Slack to Heartbeat. People get so worried about choosing the perfect tech set up. But it doesn't have to be set in stone and you can make a change after your membership gets established, with one exception. In this episode I share my upcoming workshop, https://scalingdeep.com/high-ticket-membership/, how I made my tech choices, how I moved my community (https://www.heartbeat.chat/?via=lisa-princic) and why it's working out so well.
Such a fun interview with @alexisbushnell8591 who runs an online membership for her neurodivergent community. We talked about how she got started, where she hosts it, launching as well as what she delivers. It's a super real conversation about starting small and figuring it out on the go. It's a good lesson in not always know what it's going to be when you're starting out, but starting it anyway.

The way be buy is changing and that's good news for the membership business because people are more and more comfortable paying for ongoing access to quality content and communities.
The five trends are:

This year was a bit one for my learning, especially when it comes to selling. I cam a long way from having an offer I loved to figuring out what it takes to enroll new members consistently. Here's what I go over: 1) The 1% conversion rule that that will tell you if you need to work on your USP further before you even think of getting more visibility 2) The two things that worked the best for visibility and why 3) Selling to the same people (my entire list) more frequently and why it works 4) We need support to scale and keep taking focused action and the support has to be quality. 5) You can't be the smartest person in the room and expect to grow.
If you haven't already been playing out with ChatGPT that you may be someone who's reluctant to try new technology (that's usually me), too busy producing content or living under a rock. I'm not the first person to go down every techno rabbit hole but AI will revolutionize the way we do our marketing, so it's worth being ahead of the curve . If not you might get blindsided later. Secondly, I believe the smallest teams will benefit the most as it gives us a huge leg up from having to come up with new topics & ideas in a void and starting everything from scratch. I talk about all of that on the podcast today! Don't forget to subscribe so you never miss an episode!
Got a decent size list? And an amazing not overpriced offer? But only a fraction of people are buying? You might be tempted to throw more money, time and energy at the socials or another marketing platform to get more visibility. BUT, more people isn't going to get you more sales, if the people who've been on your list for a while aren't buying. What that probably means is your offer isn't clear enough to get people off the fence and in the program. In this podcast I give 3 action steps for fix this, one of which includes making sure your USP is irresistible. Without that, you're pushing a big boulder up the hill. Well, if tiny memberships aren't all the rage and latest audience building trend, then I don't know what is. They are not only popping up everywhere, but everyone is talking about them. As a membership expert, I knew I needed to address this right away. But, in my usual style, instead of just jumping on the bandwagon and telling you it's the best thing, I'm sharing why people do them, how they work, what they do for your business and the circumstances that might make it not worth it. For those who really want detailed how-to's I will be building a Tiny Membership Toolkit in December. Subscribe here to hear about it or jump on my list at www.scalingdeep.com
There is also ONE more day to get in on my super BIG black Friday bonus (ends Tues night) and get extra support to dial-in and dial-up your membership program. Find our more here: https://scalingdeep.com/club-offer/
Are you missing out on a huge chunk of revenue, ultimately, making your membership more profitable, because you don't have an upsell? I learned the fun way about upsells by adding one to my recent membership sales funnel. It turned out very well, and it isn't even an inexpensive item.
In this episode I share how I added an upsell, why it's working and why they work. I also spill the beans on my Black Friday offer (which I've never done before) and why it's too good to miss. Stay tuned for it. Be the first to learn about it here: https://scalingdeep.com/freebie/

Just back from a whirlwind trip to Costa Rica where all I had with me was my phone. I was laptop free, however I didn't want to be completely disconnected from my membership group. All I wanted was a way to check into the vitals of my work-life, which is: Slack channel (where my membership lives) emails, email funnel (on Mailerlite) and my Facebook ads. It worked out perfectly as I had all my passwords on LastPass and with my face ID I was set.
I spend only minutes every few days checking in and do a couple of things. Memberships are truly the most flexible business model.
In this episode I speak about how important it is to have flexibility in your business ... because stuff will come up, how your members will be so open to your moving things around because you've created a program that allows for that flexibility. And I also share why it's okay to check into work while on vacay if it's your structure and day-to-day responsibilities that you need to escape from, and what I include in my membership and the tech I use to make it so easy to run on the road.

Whoa! That's a statement! My colleague coined it the other day when she opened up the course she's just bought from a big online business influencer and all she saw were glamorous lifestyle pictures.
She's worked as a contractor for a lot of the big brands we know and some of them truly are narcissists, which doesn't surprise me, because narcissism sells.
But there's a fine line between selling effectively by connecting to what our prospects want versus selling "how amazing my life is, don't you want to be like me?". Which is just icky.
So what happens when we're so turned off from that type of selling that we go too far the other way and don't sell effectively at all? We go broke while all those others make millions.
We have to be careful of going too far on the other side of that fine line and simply giving away our stuff for free and not selling anything. I talk about that in this episode.

Today I'm talking about commitment and how important it is for a membership model because the profitability can be super high but it can take time to build it up. It's a long game and that's why you've got to keep your growth momentum going. Planning a little further ahead, but not too far ahead, will help you get through setback sooner. I've got some great workshops coming up. One is on how to fill up your membership with an evergreen funnel is now available on my shop. It's on sale until Dec 1! https://scalingdeep.com/shop/

In this episode I'm sharing a little preview to my workshop next week, where I'm going over how to design effective funnels for memberships. One of the things I notice is the big challenge my members have is creating consistent sales. They know how to make their clients happy, grow a small audience of fans but with the one-to-many memberhip model they need to create a more reliable system so they don't lose out on eager, potential members that just aren't seeing the value properly. How we sell and when we invite prospects to join us are really important considerations.
So today I'm going over one little portion of the upcoming workshop - the three types - evergreen, launch/closed and limited evergreen. To grab your ticket to the live event head over to www.scalingdeep.com

I almost named this episode "From flop to flourish". Three months ago I launched my membership with a bootcamp and it totally bombed from a sales perspective. That's when I realized I was giving away too much content and not selling properly.
Luckily a program came up that taught me how to do an effective training/vsl/webinar that would effectively demonstrate how I could help, what my members could create and how far they could go using all the sales techniques that made me cringe in the past, but that work.
And guess what? It worked! I now have an effective evergreen enrollment strategy, inspiring new members inside my Profitable Membership Club and I can to do the work I love.
Listen to this breakdown of what I learned, what I added and upcoming workshops that will teach how to create effective funnels and sales systems so you can bring new members in regularly. But first, you need to get into the training right here: https://scalingdeep.com/freebie/
We're doing something a little different today. I was asked to speak at the Membership Success Summit at the end of this month and the host, Jonathan Denwood asked me to hop on a call to do a little bit of a preview of the topic I'm going to be speaking on which is all about how your membership fits within your business model.
It's always interesting when somebody else is doing the interviewing and asking the questions. We talk about all kinds of things in this session and it's a great overview of all things memberships - all the things that can get in our way of doing it, mistakes people make about content.
You'll also get a chance to hear about the Membership Success Summit. Which I think will be awesome. Jonathan brought all together a whole bunch of really interesting people in the industry, who have a lot of experience in tech, audience building, funnels and lots of other complex topics. He's also coming from a background which is very much tech because he works in the WordPress environment. That was something that I had fun learning more about because it's so different than my focus on program design, positioning and marketing & sales. So please don't hesitate to join the membership Success Summit at the end of the month is September 29 to October 1. https://themembershipsuccesssummit.com/ref/Lisa%20Princic/
In this episode, I'm sharing a perspective on how the micro-entrepreneur can stand out no matter what's happening in the economy, by being scrappy. I also look at why a membership is the ultimate offer and how it can help us slide in and appeal to our prospects more than high ticket offers and also how they aren't that different from how they're being sold these days. So I'm having a summer. So much so that I've been almost completely absent from all the short form content social media platforms, like Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.
But my business is still growing. Truthfully I think social media isn't the best use of our time and money when we need more immediate clients or members. It's a lot of work and the results can be negligible.
On the episode I share how I've been found by recent clients, how I've built my list this year, and what the best use of social media might actually be - a search engine.
Today I'm riffing on whether or not it's a good idea to have a FREE facebook group when you have another paid membership. There are a few different scenarios that make it useful and then a whole bunch more that could make it a tricky situation.
Like what if there's not enough differentiation between your paid and free groups, because you've been delivering too much inside the paid group. Or the paid group becomes the wild west because you are no longer putting as much time into it.
I talk through all these scenarios considering when it's a good move and when it could be difficult and how to plan for those challenges.
There's much debate about whether to leave memberships always open or close them down. Most people gurus will tell you to keep enrollment closed so you can maximize revenue during big launches.
But what if you don't have a big team? A predictable system? Or enough members to keep you sustainable for months in between launches?
Launching can take up valuable time and energy that we could be using to deliver to our members and get in front of future ones. Which is why I'm a super fan of mastering the evergreen model so we don't lock ourselves into periods of eager buyers and no sales.
But it also doesn't mean you can't do both. Listen to learn more about the hybrid option.

Almost everything can be figured out in our businesses by looking at your client's customer journey.
When we know our ideal client well and can anticipate what they need along their path of growth, we can position ourselves as the best support or solution for their needs.
In this epsiode I explain what your members may be looking for when they first come across your brand and share a couple of different scenarios for when a membership might be the right offer at the right time.
If you need more support to grow your dream membership program, there are two ways to work with me 1) Get on the waitlist for the Profitable Membership Club https://scalingdeep.com/club-wl/ or 2) Get fast relieve with a private Business Design VIP day with me https://scalingdeep.com/coaching/
As online business owners and especially as membership leaders, it's easy to experience decision fatigue.
Memberships are complex and none of the wildly successful ones fit one-size-fits all formulae.
In this episode I share an unpopular approaching to deciding what to sell to your audience first to move them towards your membership, as well as explaining the choices you have around how you want to package your offer.
Hint: sell it like an investment vs an expense.
I also talk about what's been working really well for me to attract ideal clients who are booking VIP days (read about those here https://scalingdeep.com/coaching/) - SEO!!
And ... how much value and insights I'm getting from my customer validation interviews and how that's influencing my mindset and choices.
What makes us excited to launch our programs?
Many of us think the answer is previous sales - a track record that people will buy from us.
Nope. I don't recommend we base ALL of our excitement on this extrinsic value, because:
1) It's risky. Results can fluctuate and we don't want to ride that rollercoaster.
2) We're not always selling the things we've sold before.
The ONE thing that doesn't have to fluctuate is the belief in our own ability to deliver transformation to our clients.
Knowing that our programs are designed and structured with contents that gets our members into action and success is value we can trust.
And it propels us into the unknown, facing all of our doubt and fears to put our gifts out there in the world.
When we have people within our programs who are doing the work, and winning because of it, we feel awesome.
So building the structure with just the right amount of content that puts our client and members into action vs overwhelm. And thus keeps us out of overwhelm is the recipe for our own success.
I also share why too much content is actually dangerous and can backfire big time, dispelling one of the most prevalent myths in the membership world - it's all about content.
Lots going on at Scaling Deep right now. More audience sharing as I'm part of a Bundle this week and co-hosting a Summit next week. It's a lot but these opportunities were too good to pass up. Get the details here: https://linktr.ee/lisaprincic
Oh and I just launched an app! (Go find it on the apps store).
My list has grown. Visibility, check. Now my focus is on conversion and sales. AKA money!
This week I'm share what didn't work during my recent launch. I made some big mistakes that completely surprised me.
I'll share what I did wrong and how. and what I'm doing to fix the mismatch that I, unknowingly, created. (Hint: less free content & more clarity on why people need me now!)
I am delighted to annouce that registration is open for the virtual summt "Sell with a Summit: Membership Edition". I've had my own experience positioning myself in a new space with a summit and am so excited to be co-hosting this one.
In this episode I pull together the top 10 reasons to launch your membership with a summit and what it can do to build your authority.

It occurred to me last week what is at the root of our biggest fears, when it comes to striving and putting ourselves out there. We're hard-wired genetically to belong. It's a basic survival mechanism because we do better in groups.
The downside of this in our business world is the feelings of hurt we experience when we don't get the results we want. Less or no sales, cancellations, refunds. The pain associated with these events can prevent us from pursuring our dreams.
I explore all this, whether or not women experience it more deeply and how can we handle it so it doesn't disrupt our work too much.
Lots of exciting events coming up this month so do get on my email list to get the invites https://scalingdeep.com/
I'm so engrossed in the Membership Success Blueprint Business this week https://scalingdeep.com/bootcamp/ which is awesome and want to share 3 good things that are coming together in my business right now: 1. Clarity - niching is working and I'm growing my audience easier now, which also means the podcast is getting a refresh
Audience sharing - as a result of niching (to some extent) I'm a clear choice for many Summits and bundle. It's a snowball effect as one event leads to another invite. So dialling the marketing & sales system.
Innovating - I'm working on an "all my content" in one place through the Scaling Deep app which can be found in the apps store soon. This innovation is possible because of the above two things and because I feel so in purpose with my visibility, unique value, content & systems it's fuelling my clarity and creativity about when it's right to do new things. Things that make us stand out and interesting to follow.
I've been so busy creating content for my Membership Success Blueprint Bootcamp. https://scalingdeep.com/bootcamp/ that starts next week. It's going to be amazing so sign up soon. Through all this prep and busy-ness I've been able to reflect upon the ups and downs of entrepreneurship especially when we're small and all growth rests upon our leadership and action.
In this episode I share 5 tips for managing our mental energy, moods and capacity throughout different fluctuations so we can better predict them and honour them, without having a negative affect on our goals and dreams.
It's really expensive to build our own audiences from scratch. Earlier this year, I realized I needed to be known to a lot more people since I am so niched. I've spent a lot of money on ads and was also in a few Summits. But it the last month or so, I've really picked up the torch to being my own advocate through relationships. In episode 160 I talked about my networking as a pre-runway for podcast pitching and it's served me really well. As of month end last month I pitched 17 shows and received 5 immediate yeses. That's pretty damn good. Today I'll share why audience sharing is so important (authority building!), how I'm doing it, why my podcast pitches are getting accepted and more.
I'm also excited to announce my multi-day Membership Success Blueprint Bootcamp starting 2 weeks. It will be amazing. Sign up for free here:

I swear I was going to spend this podcast talking about podcast pitching. Because that's going to be my main focus for visibility this year. I'll do live events for engagement and enrollment but reaching new audiences must be in place. I will share a bit more about who I'm pitching and how very soon. I wanted to address what visibilty actually is within the whole marketing funnel first.
My focus has mostly been on the farther side of the funnel like sales and engagement but a membership requires a critical mass so I need more people to know I exist. And to remember me when the timing is right.
I took a look at the three ways to stand-out most, best or first and came to the conclusion that the former two are way too hard to achieve. It's great if either comes naturally but a business killer to strive for. Link to amazing article by Rachael Kay Albers for calling out why the 'most' is almost impossible. https://rachaelkayalbers.com/7-figure-launch-secrets-scale-your-business
Intead we can stand-out by being the first ... in some way.
That way could be just a slight innovation or early adoption of a new way of communicating or even a unique type of program inside a busy market. It can also be a niche, a position or another differentiator. Doing it in a way that no one else is quite doing.
If we want to gain traction at a faster rate, this is the easiest and most fun to pursue way. Bring on creativity and take a pass on world dominance and perfectionism.
I cover a lot in this episode about how I'm using networking to warm up my relationships before pitching visibility opportunities. We get better responses by people who know like and trust us. The age old, "it's not what you know, it's who you know", still prevails. Building our own audiences from scratch is expensive so leverage others audiences is essential when busting into a new market.
In this epsiode I share my journey into a new niche, how I validated it, what I did to boost vis initally and what I'm doing now. I also share my approach to master or strategic networking that I'm seeing work for me quickly over a very short period.
This podcast episode is all about how I'm finally getting my sh$* together to feel better and do stronger bolder things. Thanks to a book I'm reading - Winging It, by Emma Isaacs - I've recognized how much I've been opting out. Now that I see it and know it's not working, it's time to figure out the systems inside my business (like networking, connecting, and pitching) that move the needle forward, bring in results and keep me energized. I need to be 100% responsible for taking action and reaching my goals and which requires feeling in purpose and loving it.
I've also been able to pinpoint that lately in my personal life I've let others drama and stress get to me. Getting up and going or staying away from others feelings isn't an option in my life right now, so I'm going to make an effort to create some big filters. I need the mindset and inner strength to position myself as a leader that I know I am and that's going to come with support in that arena as well.
We can almost always justify what we're creating and why we're investing because we think it's important at the time. But do we look critically enough at what's fuelling our choices? I don't think we evaluate it enough. If we questioned which category we want our business to fall under, we might make different choices about what we offer and how important it is, without jumping around to the next shiny thing.
The same goes for how we choose to invest. Do we need to learn that? Is it worth exploring? Is it adding to a body of knowledge that fuels are long-term vision? Those can all be evaluated through this lens.
In this episode I cover why memberships don't work. And they aren't the reason why you think they don't.
It's not pricing, content or tech, which are all the things people worry about. It's mostly because memberships don't: * Make it easy for members to take action and get results
* Have positioning that does a good job of attracting the right members (and don't know who those idea members are), and
* Haven't worked out their marketing and sales funnel
These things all work together and they are all available in the Membership Success Blueprint workshop which can be found for a limited time here: https://scalingdeep.com/club/ or for a small fee (but well worth it) right here:
https://scalingdeep.com/membership-workshop/
I finally did it. I've produced an episode comparing courses and memberships. What the significant differences are and the limitations. I also talk about the future and evolution of programs in the online business space and how everything is starting to be a bit more hybrid ... and actually take on the nature of memberships.
Also exciting is another LIVE workshop next week where I'm sharing the best of my best about building successful memberships that are easeful and grow naturally. All are welcome. Sign up here: https://scalingdeep.com/workshop
When I think about the best advice I'ver received, I think about how it's only ever valuable if I've put it into play. Experimentation is the only way to truly improve a process and find a system that can bring the results we want. There are not one-size-fits-all frameworks only concepts that we have to try out and then adjust after we've tried.
The faster we run these micro-experiments, the faster we can run them again applying the feedback we receive from the one before. That's how we growth hack and figure out our own success blueprint or formula.
Listen in two learn the best experiements to run in each of the three Phases: Value Prop, Viability & Growth in order to build up something sustainable that produces predictable revenue.
I'm always modelling this inside the Profitable Membership Club. Get on the waitlist here and be the first to know when enrollment opens next: https://scalingdeep.com/club/
Posting this episode from the road as I am in Mexico. In this episode I share my recent mini-launch with a workshop that was quite successful. I explain what made it go well. I think I've found my funnel system - woohoo! The workshop is now available for a small price if you want to check out. https://www.scalingdeep.com/membership-workshop I also discuss Service provider guilt, a term I made up when people in the healing professions get stuck on how to turn free groups into paid offers. And how we really do a disservice to ourselves and people when we don't set boundaries for them or us!
Wondering how much content you need to create and for whom? Last week I shared with you all about why you don't need to create endless content for your members or client. This week I explain who actually needs your content the most. And you might be surprised who that is. It's not your members. It's the people who are considering your membership who need to see it the most. What you create will help them see what you your capable of teaching and help them make a decision to join your community or a program you offer. I also have an exciting announcement. I am welcoming new members inside the Profitable Membership Club. Join this amazing community to reach your membership dream.
This is the last chance to join at this current price. Check it out here: https://scalingdeep.com/club/
In this next episode in the membership focusued series, I talk directly about the content we create for our membership. So many people are overwhlemed by thought of how much content they need to create for their membership ... or at least how much they think they need to create for it. Well, I'm here to tell you that less is more. Depending on the type of your membership, coaching, community or education, you might not need to create very much at all. Just what it takes to get members to take action and get fast and long-term results. I'll be sharing my very best content inside the upcoming workshop at which you can sign up for here https://www.scalingdeep.com/workshop
I think this is my most favourite episode in a long time. In it I share why it's so critical to know who your ideal member is if you want to attract newer people to you. I give my very own personal example of how evolving the profile of my ideal member inside the Profitable Membership Club has made a huge difference in the energy inside the membership and increased my energy for growing it. I've shifted from focusing on helping those who are membership curious to membership committed. This is the number one way to grow beyond your founding members and besties. Don't miss this juicy episode. I'll speak way more about this during the next workshop, which is free for people who show up LIVE. https://scalingdeep.com/workshop/
I'm excited to be embarking on a new series of membership topics on the podcast. My new members inside the Profitable Membership Club are inspiring me to share all the insights we're discussing. But first, I share my business journey and what lead me to become a membership specialist. It wasn't accidental. I was an unlikely candidate as a community builder. But, over time I not only found that's not true, but memberships are also not all about prompts and chats. That's the magic of the model. They are versatile, rich and ever-evolving which also means they have the most potential for huge impact because they truly serve.
I also go over the three primary membership types: Warm-up, Flagship & Follow-up so you can better discern what your membership needs to do for your business, which will bring on more excitement & success.
Don't miss the next LIVE workshop. It's totally free and can be found at www.scalingdeep.com/workshop
It's so easy to get isolated running our own businesses. Add in a pandemic and we find ourselves more alone than ever. Yes, it takes a village and I've begun to recognize how much isolation can sneak up on us, even when we don't know it's happening.
This month I realized the two important things:
This self-awareness is vital to making swift changes or even just squashing problems in the first place.
People anchor us to what's important and remind us what to do.
Communities with real mentoring are great ways to stay connected to our vision and ensure we don't stay stuck or get lost in confusion. And they are here to stay.
Right now is a perfect time to build community in and around your business. It'll help you get through harder times, all while helping them. A total win-win.
Check out my community: the Profitable Membership Club and surround yourself with ambitious and caring business builders.
I'm so grateful to be out more, networking and doing things I love. It gave me clarity to produce this episode. I think this year will require even more from us to be transparent and real. These are the trends or practices I think will be the most helpful for sensitive, impact-driven business owners.
Have a listen to find out what they are, why they are important and how you can apply them in your business in order to get better results and feel more satisfied from running a business your way.
The final prediction is about community. If community is part of that for you, I'd love to show you how to build a vibrant one inside the Profitable Membership Club https://scalingdeep.com/club/ It's not enrolling and I'd love for you to be a part of this special community.
After an endless holiday break, we've finally got school back in session and I'm feeling recharged. Over the last few months I've take big stock of what's important to me and what's motivating me and realized that after buying our new home, my desire to earn has diminished. I don't have big income goals right now. Instead I find myself craving adventure, which is probably why I chose the membership business model and why I'm not going to work to the level to which I hope to earn, but at the level I'm earning.
That's a major shift in how I've been working and I've recognized it's necessary for my mental health. No more excuses. I'm listening to myself no matter how many "should's" keep coming up.
So I'm going to add more play, and more adventure on this journey without it being tied to how much I'm making. It's time to cut that cord and live more freely.
In addition to reducing hustle, I'm also lowering my standards and expectations. Now that I've got commitment to my model I can trust in what I know and can teach, my experience and my strengths and go forward with more confidence & less distraction.
I'm fully committed to growing through and with the Profitable Membership Club, which is opening up for enrolment in a few days. Join here: https://scalingdeep.com/club/
A year-end is not a year-end until there's been a wrap-up and review. This year kicked my ass so it wasn't an easy one to reflect upon. I made a lot of changes and was uncomfortable with the disruption. Not to mention that the pandemic is just getting a little bit old ...
After a much needed break over the last 2 weeks, I was able to clearly see what stood out for me this year. There are 5 major things that supported me and helped me make a necessary but uncomfortable shift in my business. They all have to do with support and mindset.

I was so inspired when I created this video for my group, I'm sharing it about how important it is to shift our thinking to strive forward clearly.

There's been so much going on this past month with a move into new house that needs a lot of updates, weird shipping issues and the need for time to think.
Deep thinking that helped me make a bold move in my business for next year. In this episode I talk about my decision to "go all in" on my membership business. This is all about playing big by cutting off other options.
I get into why it's important to do so in order to create a grown up business capable of growing consistently. I also explain why I've added a new program to my suite offers to give people the real hands-on support they need to navigate scaling their business with a membership. Learn more about that here: https://www.scalingdeep.com/barm
I've been having a number of conversations with clients (and with myself) about what to sell. When scaling, it's important to figure out which format to package our services in so we don't lose out on revenue and don't minimize client results.
We have to be careful transitioning from selling something that has been working well to a new, visionary program or format that's unproven, with respect to sales.
Figuring out the how, to whom and when to sell is critical. So we don't throw out profits and don't stall in creating a group program with lots of momentum. We can do both! It needs to be thought through well and experimented with a few times.
I've realized that walking people through a step-by-step program is more desired and beneficial to my clients which is what I'm doing in my next cohort of Build a Revolutionary Membership. It will give them a better start, more guidance, secure our relationship and provide more sustainable revenue for me. Check it out here: https://scalingdeep.com/barm/
After a brisk cross-country ski - my first one of the year - I relate my exercise choices to my business. Most of us get much better results focusing on doing what we do naturally and actually enjoy. This is the same in life & business. Do we need to be in a constant state of challenging ourselves to enjoy something, day-after-day when it doesn't become any more fun? Or can we build a life and business without feeling we have to do what everyone else is doing?
Today I share my feelings about social and how I'm taking a stand about not being on the platforms regularly because I simply don't love it. And because I don't love it I'll probably never get great results unless I can do it in a way that's totally supportive and that would be at another level investment, which the ROI hasn't shown me to make sense yet.
I also share more about my SOI/ultimate guide blog post which is now ready at http://scalingdeep.com/membership-site/ the interest in my upcoming workshop https://scalingdeep.com/workshop/.

Ever felt like launching and then thought again? Launches can be exciting and stressful event so making them sustainable is critical so we actually do them.
In this episode I share an update on how my minimum viable podcast is doing, the minor setbacks and the big benefits. One such glitch was uploaded episode #137 without sound. This is since been fixed. It's a really good one so I urge you to go back to it and have a listen.
I also share a bit more about my membership funnel and decision to host one more event before the end of the year.
I was tossing around the idea of a challenge before I realized how much work was involved in setting one up. After much thought and discussion, I decided that a workshop would be just as interactive and much easier (and fun) for me to pull off than a challenge.
So that's being planned for Nov 30th and this first one is free. You can sign up here if you are interested https://scalingdeep.com/workshop/
I'm continuing on the theme this month of sharing behind-the-scenes of my marketing funnel. I wanted to add this part because last week I spoke all about my new marketing funnel that I'm building using FB ads - my social media platform of choice.
But I wanted to also address how we need to carefully look at what is working now and continue to bolster that. We need to continuously be exploring the question, "how do people buy from us'. To be successful, we can't overlook what we find. When exploring new marketing tactics or funnels we need to take a methodical approach and test one thing at a time. Resisting the temptation to "throw the baby out with the bathwater" is imperative and it allows us to get bolder in time vs. shrink back from too much change and exposure.
If you find yourself jumping from one bright shiny offer to the next listen you'll want to get some confirmation to stay mindful of the minimal approach.
Today I finally revealed my simple, yet sophisticated marketing funnel. I explain how it relates to my full suite of offers, including how I'm bringing people in and what I'm inviting them to buy.
I'm explaining how I'm using FB ads to get in front of my ideal audience, the opportunity they'll have to buy at the best price ever for my Profitable Membership Club https://scalingdeep.com/club-offer/ and what else they'll see I offer, down the road.
As I promised I'd be sharing details of what I'm experimenting in-time, stay tuned for updates as I work through it and work out the kinks.
This is one of my richest, juciest and visionary episodes yet. I almost titled it: The road to the visionary business model is paved with self-doubt because I'm sharing THE foundations to creating a visionary business model and how to stay the course.
I also share my own model with you, what I've done, how it's shifting and why. It's been a long time in the making and it's exactly the right time to be pursuing programs that light me up, and offering ONLY those ones.
Leading with our strengths, within a clear niche and providing ways for our best clients to get to know us properly is the way forward.

This episode was a bit of a beast in that I attempted to answer a big question in a limited amount of time. Part of my new requirements to run an MVP (minimum viable podcast).
I'm seeing more criticism about the practices of the unregulated online business industry and how we attribute the success of the business owner or company to a sign that they deliver on the promises people buy from them.
A recent article from the Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2021/oct/06/life-coaching-brooke-castillo-unregulated-industry takes a critical position on the Life Coach School and how it can blame the student for not getting results of running a successful life coach business.
That had me questioning whether the owners who become fixated on growing their business take their eye off of customer service and their proof of delivering value becomes more about how big them are becoming, as if that's all the validation and proof they need.
In this episode I also talk about the three foundations that will lead to success and the ultimate one which is customer service.
I'm inviting anyone who's thinking about, launching or currently has a membership to join me in my new free community on Facebook to continue having these and other important conversations.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/membershipsitemasterywithlisa
Perhaps memberships are a solution to some of the questionable sales practices we are seeing online today.
My approach to work as changed a lot lately from thinking I needed to do the growth activities to sitting back a little and realizing that I could do less and think it through more.
Yes all the marketing activities have to happen to gain any visibility and therefore sales but instead of setting arbitrary goals that result from desire, I'm more interested in creating systems.
Systems that create results consistently. This is not brand new thinking, it's more of a re-focusing from getting outcomes to fine-tuning the process. Getting one sale because of a system that can be repeated is way more powerful than getting 10 sales and not knowing how to do that again.
I'm moving away from setting any goals or having any expectations about revenue right now to figuring out the systems to create a sustainable business model. One that only supports growth that will not lead to burnout. Join me on this journey!
Sometimes what's in front of us isn't clear until we take a step back from it for a while. I've been super busy since I put the podcast on pause. A healthy East Coast vacation, a hectic Summit and a fairly mellow launch, all things considered.
Despite all that, I recognized that I still have a lot to say, to teach and share and the podcast is my medium.
But it's not going to be the same as before. It's low tech, low time and just me. I'm sharing my new "chill" approach to business growth and scaling to a one to many model.
You'll get plenty of behind-the-scenes talk as I open the kimono and share what I'm learning and applying in real time to make a great business and life. I hope you stick around.

Having been in 'vision mode' since the previous episode, I've been thinking very carefully about my visibility activities. When I began the Scaling Deep podcast, it was with a real intention to improve my visibility. But I recently realized my podcast was more of an engagement activity!
This has led me to consider my plans and activities for the coming months, and to really think about what I want to focus on in my business. So obviously, I share my thinking here by engaging with you on the podcast!
The result of all this deep reflection had led to the decision to put my podcast on pause for a while. I need to free up some of my time for visibility activities. Since I do love the medium, I'll likely be seeing you here again with a more low-key version of it with lots of behind-the-scenes, and as-I'm-working-on-it shares!

I keep returning to the theme of values-based positioning on the podcast this year, going all the way back to episode 109 in February 2021. This is so important to think about, whether you're making the move into thought leadership or just want to build a brand that reflects your values and your authentic self. But aside from creating an ethical brand, do you think about how the people you have in your team can make your business more impactful?
My guest today is Meaghan Lamm. She has been in the online business world for 6 years, helping impact-driven female business owners to build their 'dream team'. Meaghan works as a Hiring Strategist and Team Leadership Consultant, helping to ensure businesses are hiring teams that share their visions and values in order to grow, build great partnerships, and create real change.
This was the right conversation for me at the right time. I'm definitely in vision mode now!

As your business grows, you may need to hire an assistant or two (or more) to deliver your service. But if you're not a natural manager, how do you begin to manage people, especially if your team is made up of remote workers?
My guest today is Oxana Romanyuk. Her company is Remote Rockstars, which provides expert virtual executive assistant services to individuals, entrepreneurs, and small to medium-sized companies nationwide.
Oxana has trained countless virtual assistants and has helped multiple entrepreneurs grow their businesses, reach more people, and impact the world.
It was great to talk to her and I gained a lot more confidence about working with my own team. So if you're growing your business, or if you have a business that depends on hirees to deliver your service, you're definitely going to get a lot out of this episode.

I'm thrilled to introduce you to Launch Strategist TaVona Denise Boggs. Since I first became aware of her on Clubhouse she has taught me so much and now she's my new favourite person!
TaVona teaches entrepreneurs how to achieve their goals, without the hustle, overwhelm and burnout. She's an Atlanta-based business accelerator and life coach, with certifications in life, weight and wellness coaching. She helps healthcare professionals end the burnout-boredom cycle and smash glass ceilings.
TaVona shares some beautiful secrets today. Her mic was a little distorted in places but it shouldn't matter because the wisdom is there. If you're launching anything and you're in my crowd, you will feel so much more confident about launching after hearing what she shares today.

For my first solo episode in a month, I wanted to give you a behind-the-scenes view of what I've been busy with during that time. Firstly, I got away into nature, which gave me time to reevaluate what is important and to simplify my focus. And following this, I now have a really clear plan for my business for the next year - FULL DISCLOSURE: I can get anxious if I don't have a plan!
Since then, I've rebranded my website to give it a more professional design. Adding to the two main strands of my business - VIP Business Design Days and the Profitable Membership Club - I wanted to have some packages which will give me more freedom - details in the podcast. Alongside this, I'm moving away from marketing and focusing specifically on memberships.
The idea of having it all is about doing the work that I love but being able to step back when needed, and without my business suffering as a result. I'm really excited to share the plans for my business - I hope you'll come along for the ride!

I recorded this episode a few months ago with Kendra Swalls for her 'Girl Means Business' podcast. Kendra is a mompreneur, photographer and educator who started her podcast (and the 'Girl Means Business' brand) to help women build their own life-changing businesses.
Kendra launched her own membership program twice and failed, so she wanted to know what she did wrong, what she could do differently and what the foundation pieces should be for launching a successful membership.
Although this interview has already been published by Kendra, I wanted to share it here as I thought it would be a useful way of giving you ideas and hope for creating your own membership schemes. We talk about launching membership programs and the problems she encountered when launching her own scheme. Thanks to Kendra for being so open in sharing the issues she faced.

If you're ready to connect with your audience on a deeper level, this is going to be a great episode for you, as I share an amazing interview with Liz Wilcox. Liz is an email marketer whose aim in life is to make writing emails easy for anyone. She knows a lot about two things: how to quickly write newsletters that connect with the people on your list, and how to get people on your list to buy your products.
This episode is aimed at experienced professionals who know their work well but need help formulating their email subscription model. It's for people with big visions who just need pointing in the right direction. We discuss technical details, core elements, and the ultimate service you deliver, to enable you to be confident with your pricing, messaging, and audience.

This episode began as a business-design coaching session with my client Tiffany Hawk but mutated into a wide-ranging discussion about visibility. As well as this, it's almost a summary of the main topics we've been covering on the podcast recently - including values-based positioning, thought leadership, and bold messaging.
Tiffany runs a coaching and editing business, working with journalists, writers, and entrepreneurs who have a meaningful book inside them. However, her desire to work deeply with clients who have found her through referrals and blog traffic has meant that she has been struggling to keep up with demand. And then she earned the opportunity to work on a passion project which is very close to her heart and core values.
As Tiffany says here, "The universe is saying that it's message time."

This episode follows on from last week's podcast where I shared my bad experience with online sales tactics. Now I'm talking about the opposite of marketing, and how the way you design your program can replace the need for traditional sales strategies.
I share the five key elements that you should include in your membership program which will mean that your members will love you and your program, becoming your biggest cheerleaders. And what better form of marketing is there than a referral?
You can find complete show notes and resources for this episode at https://scalingdeep.com/membership-program-design.
I've always been a truth seeker so it comes as no surprise that something that hasn't sat well with me is the questionable ethics of the online business industry of influencers and influence.
2020 was obviously a difficult year for everyone, but I hope that one of the positive things to come from this shared experience is a greater sense of honesty and transparency. It allowed different voices to be heard and appreciated in a new way.
A recent personal experience I had fuelled a desire for greater ethical sales tactics in the online business industry. I want to find a solution to the problem - there is hope!

I've always had a "love-hate" relationship with email. It's great for communication but using it in my business - especially for sales - just seemed like one more thing for the to-do list.
If you feel the same way, Kate Doster is here to persuade you that your email list is your best sales and marketing tool. As the host of the Inbox Besties Podcast and creator of the Love Your List 2.0 email marketing course, Kate empowers entrepreneurs to write emails dripping with personality without having to act like somebody else.
By changing your mindset you can be writing emails that convert in no time at all.

As you begin to establish your business, it's only natural to want to make it as successful as possible. And if you're lucky, and it starts to gain traction, you'll hopefully start to see some serious money coming your way. So far so good, right?
But the trouble with this is, the longer it goes on, it can get harder to get off the treadmill. And this is when the hustle culture can kick in and you get stuck in a growth for growth's sake cycle.
My guest today is Chris Bello. Chris began his career in oil and gas but never felt comfortable with being micromanaged. So he decided to launch himself as a realtor, using his Entrepreneur Motivation Podcast to track his journey. He has now achieved the rare distinction of being a realtor whose business success is entirely independent of his location, and which fits around the life he wants to lead.
In this conversation, Chris and I go deep on hustle culture, superficial goals, and negotiating different models of success to reconnect with what's important to you.
I promised at the end of 2020 that I would be more transparent about my business in 2021. For reasons that will become clear, I decided against doing monthly revenue reports so welcome to my first ever quarterly report!
I began 2021 with a loose plan of what I hoped to earn and what I thought I would do, so I found it super-interesting to take a good look at my business in the year to date. And as you'll hear, it has certainly led to some big questions.
Am I optimizing my offer as much as possible? What is the story I'm trying to share? What's important to me?
All of this has fed into my planning for the rest of the year - including thinking about hosting another summit in September, potentially becoming incorporated, and the support which I'll need to buy in if I'm going to stick to my goal of not working on weekends.
You can find complete show notes and resources for this episode at scalingdeep.com/march-2021-income-report.
I'm continuing to think about hustle culture. I've pushed hard, been flexible, and worked weekends while establishing myself. So now it feels like I need to start thinking about ways to organize my energy and time.
My guest today is Joe Sanok, who takes a proactive approach to setting boundaries in his business. As Joe is someone who refuses to work on Fridays or on weekends, he could be the work coach you've been waiting for!
Now, this isn't about working less. As Joe points out, it feels good to work and strive for a goal. But working for yourself in your own business shouldn't have to feel like a job. And working smarter and limiting the time you spend on things that don't matter can help.
You can find complete show notes and resources for this episode at scalingdeep.com/setting-work-boundaries-joe-sanok.
The idea of developing an abundance mindset is a huge talk topic. But what exactly does abundance mean? Obviously it's different for everyone but it can include wealth, relationships, lifestyle and health. So how do we go about unpacking all of this in a way which can help us to grow our businesses without getting stuck on a "more, more, more" treadmill and burning out?
Emily King is a wealth & abundance coach for entrepreneurial women and the founder of The Rich Woman signature coaching program. Since 2015 she's worked with hundreds of women to help them create a loving relationship with money so they can massively increase their income and impact.
In our conversation we talk about what abundance actually means, how you can achieve a healthy relationship with money, and why success without fulfilment is the ultimate failure.
You can find complete show notes and resources for this episode at scalingdeep.com/abundance-mindset.
In all of my professional life, I have been lucky enough to avoid instances of burnout. However, immediately after my Profitable Membership Summit, I hit a wall of all-encompassing physical and mental fatigue that I now recognise as classic burnout.
What is burnout? How can you recognise it in the future? Does it mean that you need to scale back on what you want to achieve with your professional life? Or can awareness of your trigger points mean that you can learn to work smarter and still achieve your business goals?
My guest today is Cait Donovan, an acupuncturist and burnout recovery specialist. In this conversation we talk about her first experience of burnout when living and working in Poland, how she now coaches people to recognise their own warning signs, and why resentment, rather than stress, is the big red flag to look out for.
You can find complete show notes and resources for this episode at scalingdeep.com/burnout-syndrome-cait-donovan.
In your business's growth stage, you will probably find that you are working too hard for too little money. This is unsustainable and can lead to burnout, and it's why I'm taking a stand against "hustle culture"!
As you build the customer base for your online service business, does the idea of raising your prices fill you with panic? While it's natural to be concerned about what your clients might think, have you ever considered that, as well as improving your ROI and helping you to avoid burnout, raising your prices might also make you more attractive to other people?
In recent months I've been thinking a lot about premium prices, prompted by what I've seen in the online business space and all the things I've learned from my Profitable Membership Summit. As I say in this episode. "Premium pricing is bold. And it also works."
You can find complete show notes and resources for this episode at scalingdeep.com/raise-prices.
In previous episodes we've talked about what it takes to become a thought leader and how to develop and grow your own thought leader brand. But without some kind of visibility project, some way of communicating our bold message and our unique story and viewpoint, no one's going to hear about the value we can bring. Visibility projects can help to build brand awareness, reach new audiences, or help to engage more fully with audiences you're already reaching.
You might be thinking, what is a visibility project? Or, how will I know what to do? Well, in this episode, I talk about the different visibility projects that I've done in the past, including Facebook advertising, podcast pitching and my recent summit. I talk about what I've learned - and earned - from each of them. And I also talk about why you can't trust your emotions when evaluating your own visibility projects!
You can find complete show notes and resources for this episode at scalingdeep.com/visibility-projects.
As you plan out your visibility activities, you might think that the idea of writing a book is a pretty dramatic way of raising your profile. But that's exactly what my guest today did.
Rachel Beider has forged a career which includes running her own massage therapy business (with over $10 million in lifetime sales), offering consultation to other wellness businesses and writing two books to date. By doing all of these things she has positioned herself as a thought leader in her field.
In our conversation we talk about how Rachel views her books, not as the end product (or even as a money-making endeavour), but as a visibility project, a way to generate leads and establish her brand.

Whether you're an extrovert or an introvert, it's an accepted 'fact' that networking is the only way to forge relationships with new people. If you want to be a success, you've got to get out there, right?
Well, not according to today's guest, business designer Michelle Warner. She has created an introvert-friendly, awkward-free connection system built for business owners who know that real relationships are better than transactions.
She views business design as a puzzle - the individual parts are what make each business unique. By investing time to build intentional, real, long-term relationships, you'll create a network of friends and colleagues who will refer you, have you on their podcasts, collaborate with you and share your work.

As I continue to build up my thought leader brand, I’ve realised that I might not be doing enough to leverage my content to support my business positioning. So I was blown away by this conversation with brand strategist and visibility mastermind Britney Gardner.
In this episode, Britney talks about how content, when used correctly, can lead the right people directly to you. However, she also acknowledges there’s a tension between going all out for visibility (including the time it can take) and hitting your business’ financial targets.
Well, for a start, Britney talks about how she can turn one podcast episode into 30+ pieces of content. And that’s just one of the nuggets that she drops in this episode. So if content creation is something which always falls to the bottom of your to-do list, you’re going to get a lot out of this episode.

It should be clear now that I see becoming a thought leader is critical to developing my unique positioning and voice. So now is the time when I really start building my thought leader brand.
This is an evolving process which I’ll be sharing with you in real time this year and in this episode I’m getting started by using Carol Cox’s V.O.I.C.E. framework (as covered in episode 111: The road to becoming a thought leader with Carol Cox of Speaking Your Brand).
I believe that this process will strengthen my positioning, define my brand values and enhance what is unique about what I can offer. By picking a lane, defining my brand values and the things that I stand for, it will help me to carve out my niche in the online space.
You can find complete show notes and resources for this episode at scalingdeep.com/thought-leadership-brand.
Although I said that I was going to share an episode where I talked through the ways I’m building my own thought leader brand, this episode is more of a sideways (but related!) step. I’m talking today about trends I’ve been noticing in the online business world, especially the skepticism I’ve been feeling about certain practices in marketing (as I discussed in episode 110: The time for transparency and ethics in the online business world is now with Maggie Patterson).
Recently I’ve been thinking about the need for transparency in creating your ethical brand - being true to your values in order to connect with people and grow your business. With everything I’ve been seeing, I’m more convinced than ever that this is the best time to be transparent and genuine as a way to create your brand.
I think memberships are the best way to scale in an ethical way. They enable you to grow and feel confident that you’re being legit and true to your deeply-held beliefs. And because of that, I declare that 2021 is the year of membership.
You can find complete show notes and resources for this episode at scalingdeep.com/membership-model.
I’m continuing to explore authenticity in brands and ethical business practices, as well as examining my own role as a thought leader. To help me (and you) get a better idea of what this might actually look like, today’s episode is a conversation with Carol Cox, founder of Speaking Your Brand. She previously appeared on Episode 4 of the Scaling Deep Podcast - check out Improve audience engagement by leading with who you are with Carol Cox.
This conversation is pretty wide-ranging and we cover a lot, as we try to unpick not only what being a thought leader actually entails, but also how it can help you to move forward in your business. In the next episode I’ll be sharing how I’m developing my own brand as a thought leader.
Carol Cox is the founder and CEO of Speaking Your Brand and a sought-after presenter and trainer on public speaking, business storytelling, and women's leadership. Following on from last time, I’m continuing to explore ideas of values-based positioning, thought-leadership and showing up with intent. My guest today is Maggie Patterson, who last appeared on the podcast in November 2019 - see Episode 47: Amplify your visibility & revenue by focusing on fewer things with Small Business Boss Maggie Patterson.
Recently Maggie has been getting more vocal about the unethical business activities she has seen in the small business world, through her Small Business Boss website and The BS-Free Service Business Show podcast.
And this has been the perfect inspiration for me as I’ve been deciding where I’m drawing a line in the sand for my own business and message. I’ve been thinking deeply on ethics, service delivery commitment and transparency for my own brand. These are topics I’ve always been passionate about and intend to be more open about in my business.
In this episode, Maggie talks about her passion for consumer advocacy, how some elements of the online business status quo are broken, and why clients and customers now have more expectations about the brands they engage with.

In a change of pace this week, I’m going to share my own recent personal experiences. This has been a challenging time and it isn’t even (solely) related to the pandemic and other global issues!
However, the thought processes I’ve gone through will play into the rest of this month’s podcast episodes, which are all about going deep in order to develop your own personal, values-based positioning. To get things started I’m going to share my own experiences of feeling overwhelmed and swamped by the noise of everyday life, and the ways in which I cope, both personally and professionally.
I hope this episode of the podcast brings some comfort to you if you find yourself feeling anxious, frustrated or jumpy. These are not simple times, nor is running a business a simple career choice. And if you do know someone who you think might be experiencing their own discomfort, please share it with them so they know they are not alone.

Because the start of a New Year is about planning, today I focus on something which I’ve mentioned before - the benefits of moving your business into one that offers productized services. Having something concrete and defined to sell can really help you move from being a freelancer or a generalist to a business owner, creating packages based on outcomes rather than periods of time worked.
This is something which I’ve done over time with my own coaching strategy business and the clairity it has given me has created a platform where I can go deeper and sell more to more people. Having a defined offer to communicate also makes marketing easier and increases my visibility.
In today’s episode I not only tell you the five reasons you should transition into a productized service business but I also tell you how to do it!

I’m sure that in your business journey you’ve attended no end of summits and conferences. Some of them are great, some of them… not so much. But have you ever thought of hosting your own?
My guest today is Krista Miller. After attending too many virtual seminars that felt gross and overdone, she decided to do things her way. Following the successful launch of her own summit, Krista launched Summit In A Box in 2018 to guide entrepreneurs in creating their own virtual summits in order to achieve fast business growth. Hear how she does it in today’s episode.

The beginning of the year is a natural time to make plans for your life and your business, but things can be a bit overwhelming as work picks back up after the holidays. Racheal Cook is the founder and CEO of The CEO Collective, which helps women entrepreneurs start and scale service-based businesses.
Racheal gives us a peek into the strategic planning process she uses in her own business and with her own clients, including the importance of setting small, measurable goals, how to get out of the feast or famine cycle, and why you need to give your new strategies/experiments enough time to actually make an impact.

Happy New Year, everyone! I am so excited for 2021 and everything it’s going to (hopefully) bring. I have never felt so focused & clear about what my business offers, so I am really looking forward to bringing my plans to life.
One thing I’m committing to this year, along with all of the new offers and experiments I’ll be trying out, is more transparency. I’m going to do this by sharing my goals for 2021 with you today (revenue included) and giving you more frequent behind-the-scenes updates about what’s happening in my business.
This will be especially fun because I’m making some big changes this year and taking some big leaps - from niching down into the membership program space to launching my own summit, there will be plenty for you to learn right alongside me.

I wanted to wrap up this year on the podcast by giving you a look behind the scenes of my own small consulting business. I had a pretty good year, especially with everything going on, but I am even more excited for all the changes I’ll be making in 2021.
I’ll tell you about what really worked in my business this year, what didn’t, and what I’ve learned about my approach to decision-making and growth in my business. We’ll also talk a bit about the actual numbers side of my work, (which I don’t usually track all that closely!) including my expenses, my income and my overall profitability.

What a year 2020 has been. We have all had to grow and stretch in unexpected ways and I wanted to share some of the big changes I’ve made in my business during this very strange year. To do that I’ve invited back my business bestie, Mel Richards, to talk all about leveling up our mindset & building resilient businesses.
Mel and I chat about what it means to be resilient in business and why that became our goal in 2020. We also dig into the big mindset shifts we made this year and why we went bigger and bolder instead of scaling back in light of the world’s uncertainty. And to top it all off, we talk about our biggest lessons from this year and what we’re planning to do in 2021 to continue building resilient businesses for the long haul.

There’s nothing I love more than asking people the deep questions about how they built their business. Today we get to do exactly that with our brilliant guest Tasha Booth, and she lets us in on the secrets that helped her build her digital agency with year-on-year growth for the past 4 years.
Tasha Booth is the founder and CEO of the Launch Guild, a launch and systems support agency for established coaches & course creators who are making their mark on the world.

Today we reach a huge milestone - 100 episodes of the Scaling Deep podcast! I’ve learned so much from hosting this podcast over the last few years, so I wanted to share what I’ve learned about building relationships with peers and clients through podcasting and how the medium has helped me evolve my business. I’ll also talk about how it’s helped me validate my brand, test new ideas and get comfortable with experimentation and failure.

I want to wrap up Membership Month by talking about scaling your business and the different offers you can design to create that growth. Membership is one of them (and definitely my favorite), but courses and programs are also great options that I cover in this episode.
The first step is figuring out whether you’re ready to create a scalable offer. If you have an engaged audience, a narrow-enough focus, and feel excited/ready to work on your business instead of in it for a while, those are all good signs that a scalable offer might be your next step.
Once we cover that, I’ll walk you through three of the scalable offers that I think work really well for coaches, consultants and other service-based business owners: courses, programs, and memberships. Each one has pros and cons and you might find that one naturally suits your personality and delivery better than the others.

Emily Thompson is the co-founder of Being Boss and the CEO of Almanac Supply Co. She’s also the host of the well-known Being Boss Podcast, which has been helping creative entrepreneurs navigate the world of business for several years by exploring the mindsets, habits, and tactics of harnessing your creative ambitions.
Emily and I talk about how Being Boss and Almanac Supply Co came to be and how she juggles these two very different businesses. She walks us through the whirlwind rise of the Being Boss Podcast, hosting live events with her community, and what ultimately led Emily and her co-founder Kathleen to burnout. Emily also shares why she decided to buy Kathleen out of her piece of Being Boss and how she knew she wanted to continue to nurture that community rather than start another business from scratch.

For the first interview of Membership Month, we’ve got the amazing Allie Bjerk here to walk us through her journey from client work to digital product to membership program. Allie is a visibility strategist who helps business owners set up systems that allow them to show up online without actually being online 24/7.
We talk about how she used a tiny offer model to sustainably build her business and her visibility. She also shares how she helps people create similar habits for showing up consistently online so that they can start to see the results they really want for their business, whether that’s a bigger audience, more sales, or more connection.

I’m super excited for this week’s episode because I’m walking you through my core service: business model design.
I love this service because it’s so satisfying. When people know how to package & sell the thing they are really good at - with less time & energy and without needing a ton of marketing to back it up - their businesses start to grow at an amazing pace.
So today I want to tell you about the five steps I use to help my clients get crystal clear on their value and start delivering exactly what their clients want.

Really excellent communities seem to have found an almost magical balance: they are home to helpful ideas and advice, feature engaged and impressive members, and are facilitated by dedicated but not smothering leaders.
But this balance is super difficult to achieve and there aren’t many criteria we can use to measure whether our community is going in the right direction.
Sophie Bujold is the founder and community strategist behind CliqueWorthy, where she does online community consulting & community experience design for creative businesses.
Sophie and I dive into her work as a community builder and the two biggest problems her clients need help with. She talks about her community mapping process, how a community can add revenue to your bottom line and why it is so important to be crystal clear on the transformation you want your members to experience.

If you want to scale your business, you’re eventually going to need to hire some help. It can be a scary step, but you can (and should!) prepare yourself to make good hiring choices and create an awesome workplace.
Niki Ramirez is the Founder and Principal Consultant of HR Answers, which provides expert support with HR regulatory compliance, policies & procedures and employee relations.
Niki and I start off with one of the most common questions solopreneurs ask themselves: should I hire an employee or a contractor? We dig into the key differences between these types of hires and who you should hire first depending on your business model. We also discuss how to set clear expectations from the beginning of your relationship with employees, how to deal with key employees leaving your business, and why leaders need to get good at having difficult conversations.

The idea of taking a leap has been showing up everywhere lately. For my peers, for my clients, and for my own business, this is shaping up to be a season of big changes and big jumps.
Even when they’re exciting and necessary, it can be scary to make these bold moves in your business. So I wanted to spend some time breaking down what it is to take a leap, why we’re scared of doing it, and how to know if it's the right time.
I cover several of the leaps I’ve seen a lot of lately, including niching down and repositioning yourself, upping your pricing, hiring a team member, and knowing when to make a big investment in your business.

I think my favorite podcast episodes are the ones where I get to chat with someone who’s at a similar level about the real nitty-gritty aspects of business.
Susan Boles is a Virtual CFO and Operations Advisor for coaches, consultants and agencies.
She starts by telling us about her background in data and finance and how these inform her holistic work as a virtual CFO today. She also shares why she loves working with service businesses in particular and how she helps them streamline their workflows so they deliver standout results with less time and hustle.
We then dig into how Susan positions herself despite having a super unique job title and why her clients appreciate her broad and deep perspective.

Most of us know that our site’s performance on Google and other search engines is really important because it affects the traffic to our website. That traffic affects the quality and growth of our audience and, ultimately, the scalability of our business.
But SEO often feels like it’s shrouded in mystery and confusion. That’s why many of us only need to know the simple, effective basics until we can hire an awesome SEO expert like today’s guest.
Kim Herrington is a SEO and search traffic growth expert for online course creators, service providers and online experts. She shares excellent advice in this episode about how and why SEO has changed and what you need to know about optimizing your site now. We talk about how to brainstorm keywords that your potential clients are actually searching, why you need to consider the competition in your niche before choosing search terms, and strategies for building authority with your desired keywords.

I was really looking forward to attending a bunch of conferences to grow my business this year, but of course that had to change. However, I have been doing a lot more of the next best thing: guesting on other people’s podcasts. I think going on other people’s podcasts is a winning strategy for seriously boosting your visibility this year and beyond.
To talk all about the power of podcast pitching this week we’re joined by Brigitte Lyons, the founder of Podcast Ally. Podcast Ally helps CEOs, authors and thought leaders grow their audiences and get leads by booking podcast interviews on top-rated shows.
In this episode we dig into why becoming a podcast pitching agency was such a great business move and the excellent results her clients have seen so far. Best of all, she shares some really helpful tips for finding the podcasts in your industry that you absolutely need to be pitching.

I’ve been using two communication tools - Voxer and Loom - for a while now, but lately I have brought them to the front & center of my business. Quick communication tools like these are perfectly aligned with my personality and my business, which makes them a huge win for me and my clients.
In this episode I’m talking about what these two tools are, why I love them and how exactly I’m using them to make my business flow better. I also dig into why it’s so important to find and use technology in your business that reduces distractions and builds better connections with your clients.

When it comes to doing business online, a lot of people think that extroverts like me have an easier time - people assume that extroverts are good at sales and feel super comfortable pitching themselves, so they must breeze through networking, business building, and everything else.
This isn’t my experience and I think that much of online business is actually geared toward introverts. If you’re an introvert and prefer connecting with people through your content, online business can be a dream come true. I wanted to spend an episode busting myths about what it’s like to be an extrovert with an online business and sharing some tips for surviving in what can be an isolating world for us.
First we’ll clear up what extroversion and introversion are and talk about what each of these people needs to feel energized. Then you’ll hear thoughts and survival tips from some of my fellow extroverts in business: Carrie Hawson, Autumn Witt-Boyd, and Mel Richards.

Today you get to listen in on me coaching a business owner who is ready to scale deep & start working with more of her ideal clients. I had Christina Nicholson of Media Maven on the show back in episode 80, so I recently joined her on her podcast to keep the conversation going. What I thought was going to be a standard interview turned into a super fun mini-coaching session as we chatted about her three businesses, the new direction she wants to take with her work and how to keep other plates spinning as she takes on different projects. We also dive into the struggle of shifting your messaging to appeal to a new target market, especially if you’re choosing a new niche with a more sophisticated ideal client.

We all want to spend more time in our zone of genius, right? Once you’ve figured out what yours is, it’s natural to want to maximize the impact of your gift on yourself and your clients. But to really take things up a notch, you need to be ready to move up the value chain with your offerings and outcomes.
In this episode I’ll talk you through what a value chain looks like, some of the ways you can raise your prices and which paths require you to step up the level of service you’re providing - without necessarily taking up more of your time. I’ll also cover why you should be considering the lifetime value of your clients if you want to build deeper relationships with them and work together in the long term, as well as how to build up your confidence for moving up the value chain.

Today I’m digging into all things mindset with my guest Amira Alvarez. Amira is the founder and CEO of The Unstoppable Woman. She is a mentor and business strategist who helps clients own and execute on their dreams.
Amira and I jump right into the deep end talking about mindset and the importance of having the right perspective as you grow your business. She shares how she made it to six figures by hustling and how she realized she needed to apply new principles in order to triple and eventually 5x her yearly income.
Amira then describes how she helps clients through coaching and why common mindset problems all have unique roots.

I was really resistant to the concept of “mindset blocks” until I found a way to connect with it more deeply.
I start off this episode talking about a definition of “mindset” that I’ve found more useful and why the difference between growth and fixed mindsets has been especially enlightening for me. I then talk through some of my own historical mindset blocks like wanting to be thought of as smart, avoiding challenges out of a fear of failure, and why effort is the only real path to mastery.
Toward the end of the episode I pivot and talk a bit about how I think some of these mindset blocks are related to our current culture of hyper-focus on the self, striving and success.

We all have stories of failure and missed opportunities in business, but some of those early missteps can be the most memorable and helpful. This week’s guest has a great story about what NOT to do when you’re starting a side-hustle business, and she’s generously sharing it with us today.
Sasha Korobov is a coach for side-hustlers who are still working in their 9-to-5 jobs. She provides side-hustlers with one-on-one support, strategies for getting the first clients in the door and helps them make their first sales.
We start off talking about the early days of Sasha’s business and the story behind all of the online courses she bought. She talks about what she did and didn’t learn from all of those courses and gurus, how she realized they weren’t actually helping her solve her problems, and why she decided to circle back and work with me again when she was ready to level up.

Potential clients are weighing quite a few things when calculating whether they should work with you. How experienced are you? Do your values align with theirs? Most importantly - can you help them get the results they want? That is the number one thing your clients want to know, so it’s super important that you can show them exactly how you’re going to help them reach their goal.
This is where the client success map comes in. In this episode I’ll walk you through what exactly a client success map is, why it will inspire confidence in your potential clients, and how I’ve started using this tool in my own business. I will also share what goes into my own client success map and how I’ve refined my process for getting amazing results over time.

Some of the most amazing entrepreneurs I meet have taken skills honed in another profession and brought them to the world of business. They bring a clear, powerful value proposition to the table and a great sense of what their market really needs - and today's guest is a great example.
Christina Nicholson is an award-winning journalist and mentor to other business owners by teaching them how to be their own publicist. Her newest project, Podcast Clout, is a Software as a Service (SaaS) venture that builds customized pitch lists of the top podcasts.
To start off Christina and I talk about her work in media and journalism and what she realized about all the not-so-great pitches she received on a daily basis. She walks us through the transition to freelance work and how she decided (after a bit of hesitation) to build a public relations agency.
Then Christina tells us about Podcast Clout, the SaaS product subscription service she’s building with an awesome team of developers to fill a huge hole in the podcast publicity market.

When I sat down to have my chat with today’s guest, I thought it was going to be a straightforward, slightly dry conversation about trademarks for online businesses. I’m happy to say that guess was totally off, because my conversation with Autumn Witt Boyd ended up being so much fun while staying super informative, too.
Autumn Witt Boyd is an award-winning intellectual property lawyer and the founder of her independent AWB Firm. Autumn and her team work with business owners to help them protect everything they’ve built, including online courses and other IP.
Autumn and I talk about when it makes sense to go through the trademarking process, how long it typically takes, and why it’s so important to get your legal ducks in row in the early stages of your business. Autumn and I also discuss how she’s scaled her own business by investing in relationships, offering contract templates, and networking with some amazing entrepreneurs.

In keeping with this month’s theme of Scaling Deep, I want to talk to you about scalable offers. Scalable offers can be one of the absolute best ways to not just grow your business, but to make sure your business keeps pace with your life.
There are a lot of ways to create and implement scalable offers, but it’s important to start out with one that suits your business, your time and the way you like to work. That’s why I want to explore five of the most common scalable offers I’ve found and share some of their pros and cons with you in this episode.
We’ll talk through why you might want to scale your business, why I think these five scalable offers are some of the best places to start, and my favorite scalable offer. And I’ll tell you a bit about my new free training, How to Create and Sell Your Scalable Offer - Even with a Small List.

Can you imagine making 100k in one sale? What about 500k, or even a million? I know it might sound crazy - I even squirm a bit when I think about those numbers - but I’m chatting with this week’s guest about making offers worth 100k (and beyond) that allow you to have a huge impact on your clients and really deepen your relationships with them.
Kathryn Porritt is the founder and CEO of Business Bravery, a full strategy and marketing company that helps some of the world’s most exciting entrepreneurs build an extraordinary personal brand and reposition themselves to make 100k, 500k, and million dollar offers.
We talk about how she helps her clients expand their vision for what’s possible and unwind the mindset blocks that keep them from leveling up. We also chat about why positioning yourself to make 100k+ offers is just like being a luxury brand and how she closed her own first 100k offer. And we discuss the business model that underpins Business Bravery and how they handpick clients they truly believe in.

In this conversation Lesley shares how she came up with the idea for HireMyMom before big players like Fiverr and Upwork were in the space. She talks about why she has preferred to grow slowly and organically while keeping her family in the forefront of her life.

All month I’m featuring entrepreneurs who have successfully scaled their businesses deeply by finding ways to grow without relying on mass marketing or techniques that don’t align with who they want to be as a business owner.
Our guest on this episode is Shannon Mattern. Shannon teaches entrepreneurs and solopreneurs how to DIY their websites and market themselves online. Today she walks us through the switch from a commodity-driven business offering 1-to-1 web design services to a new model where she mostly markets her free trainings.
Shannon and I also talk about why relationship building has been critical for her growth and how she knows which relationships to nurture and when. And we dive into why offering so much free content has been such an effective way to get warm leads.

This month on the podcast we’ve got a new theme: Scaling Deep!
To introduce the idea of Scaling Deep, I'm talking about some of the elements of your business that need to be nailed down before growth: your business model and your value proposition. If you take the time to envision and implement your dream business model first, you’ll be able to grow the exact business you want, show up in the way you like and focus on the work you love to do.
In this episode you’ll learn why having a clear business model is the foundation for a business that fits your personality and your vision. I’ll also cover some of the business models you may want to experiment with, how to clearly define your value proposition and why you need to make that proposition crystal clear for clients new and old.

Are you an integrator or a visionary? Even if you’re a mix of the two, you might like one side of business a little bit better than the other - and that personal preference can helpfully impact the way you build relationships with not just your peers, but your ideal clients, too. Our guest today, Danielle Levy, is a Marketing Operations Manager and an integrator.
Danielle and I spoke about integrators vs. visionaries, what each has to offer the other and how she’s built a network of talented professionals that help her reach more of her dream clients. Having a solid grasp on who your ideal client is and where you can find them is key to operations, so I was really excited to zero in on that in today’s episode.

When it comes down to it, delivering an exceptional experience to our customers is the foundation of a standout business. Everything we do - our branding, our marketing and our growth - is rooted in providing excellent value and service to our clients.
That’s why I wanted to spend an episode talking about why you should be focusing on and refining your customer experience if you want to harness the real secret behind consistent business growth.
In this episode I’ll tell you why the main goal of any business is efficiency and how providing an excellent customer experience will get you there. We’ll discuss life after the sale and why this is what you should home in on to get more sales, meet better clients and build stronger relationships.

In this episode of the Operations Month series, we’re talking all about automating your business processes to give your clients - and yourself - a better experience.
Melissa Morris is a business operations consultant who helps service providers streamline and automate their business processes. She focuses especially on client onboarding, management and offboarding so her clients can spend less time working in their business and more time working on their business.
Melissa and I talk about how to know if you need processes and automation, why so many business owners fall into the overworking and overdelivering trap, and how to set boundaries with your clients from the outset. We also discuss strategic automation and whether you should work with a business operations manager.

Over the month of May we’re going to be digging into the operations side of business and why it’s just as important for us small businesses as it is for big companies.
Building a business that will grow and sustain itself long-term means we have to put systems and processes in place that help us find new clients, manage relationships with current ones, and design effective, value-driven marketing. A helpful (but often intimidating) tool for doing all of that is CRM (Customer Relationship Management) software, which we’re talking about with an expert in today’s episode.
Sara Kappler is the owner and founder of Sara Kappler Consulting, where she and her team focus on CRM-driven growth for small businesses. Sara helps small business owners implement CRMs, capture tons of helpful customer and marketing data and roll out marketing according to those metrics.
Sara and I talk about what CRM software does and why it can be such a boon for small businesses who want to grow. We discuss how a CRM can help you stay top-of-mind with clients new and old, the data it can help you gather about your clients and your network and why you should get yourself organized early on in your business. For our last episode in Deep Messaging month, I want to talk in-depth about how to craft messaging that compels people to take action. Today we’re talking all about using hooks, which I think is one of the most effective messaging techniques you can use.
There are hooks out there that can feel icky or even obnoxious, and you’ve probably come across them before. But when they are crafted with integrity, hooks incite action in your audience and help them quickly understand your brand values and what they have to gain by working with you.
In this episode, I talk about what buying behavior is and how I’ve used hooks to communicate my brand values to my ideal clients more effectively than before. We will also cover why hooks, in particular, are so useful for both you and your prospective clients, some of the varieties of hooks I see out there in the online business world, and how you can start working them into your own messaging.

I think a lot of us business owners want to be bolder with our messaging but aren’t sure where to start. We would love to clearly and powerfully articulate our brand values, but we don’t know what will do that best. As with most things in business, we need to start with a strategy, which is exactly what today’s guest is here to illuminate for us.
Rachael Kay Albers is the founder of RKA Ink, a branding, web design and marketing agency that helps thought leaders create epic, unforgettable brands. She is also the host of Awkward Marketing, a business comedy sketch show about the dos and don’ts of great marketing.
Rachael and I chat about how she’s used humor to grow her own brand and how she helps her clients create messaging that pulls in the right clients and repels the wrong ones. She also talks about why the things that annoy you in your industry - the things that make you want to rant to everyone you know - can be a great starting point for some of your strongest brand values & most effective content.

Many business owners are trying to figure out how to create content that feels authentic to their values, genuinely connects with & serves their audience, and drives results. It’s a tall order. To do it, you need a strategy - but you don’t want to feel scripted or disingenuous.
Deb Coman is a content conversion strategist, copywriter, speaker and author. She works with service-based business owners to get clear on their messaging, use strategy to reach more of the people they’re meant to serve and convert them to buyers using great content.
Deb shares excellent advice about why so many people are inconsistent with their content and how to show up in a way that’s aligned and consistent. We talk about the need for clarifying your core messages before you do anything else and why this is one of the best ways to support your overall business. We also discuss how you can be strategic with your content without feeling scripted and why you need to show up as yourself - not who you think you should be.

Welcome to Deep Messaging Month! I’ve been excited about diving deep into this topic - if you’ve followed me for a while, you know I love messaging - but obviously the world has changed since I planned these episodes. We’ll still be talking about how you can craft excellent brand messaging, but now we have the backdrop of the COVID-19 crisis.
Most importantly, I hope that you and your loved ones are safe. All of us are navigating a lot of uncertainty right now, and for us business owners we need to find a way to trim back to our most essential messages and services. You need to know where you function most effectively so you can boost your business resilience and continue serving people to your highest ability.
In this episode I’ll tell you what deep messaging is and why I think becoming irresistible and essential is key to business success. I’ll talk about the three things that help service-based businesses grow with more ease and why deep brand messaging is one of the most important foundations of your business. If you’re wondering how to find your core value proposition and unique messaging, this is the perfect episode for you.

This month of deep marketing discussions has been so fun for me and I hope it’s been super informative for you. I wanted to wrap things up with a solo episode about something new I’ve learned in the past year of marketing that surprised me: Facebook ads can be a deep marketing strategy.
First I’ll talk about what makes a marketing strategy “deep” in the first place and why deep marketing is so valuable in online business today. I’ll then tell you why Facebook ads can be used effectively for deep marketing and how they compare to other awareness strategies. I’ll also talk a bit about the technical side of ads, how they can help you test your messaging and why they can be a good way to get hands-off with your marketing.
And I’ll answer a question I hear a lot from entrepreneurs who are considering Facebook ads: “Should I just do these myself?” I think that it depends on what you want to focus on in your business, but there are a lot of great reasons to learn the basic ropes yourself and then hire someone to pour a lot of energy into those ads.
Next month we’ll be talking about deep messaging and I’m so excited for that too. See you back here next week!

Since we’re talking about deep marketing this month, I wanted to invite someone on the show who’s had success with one of the deepest marketing strategies you could think of: building an audience one-by-one.
Abby Herman is a content strategist and consultant at her company Write Solutions. She helps primarily service-based businesses owners market themselves online and get the visibility they need to grow their business. She gives one-on-one support and also runs a membership community called Content Mastery Lab, where she helps members figure out what their audience wants, what they need to hear, where they need to hear it and what content will help business owners meet their goals.
In this conversation, Abby and I chat about her approach to messaging, writing and content marketing. We talk about the process of figuring out what your clients want and what they need to know so they can make a great purchasing decision when hiring you. Abby also discusses why she prefers building long-term relationships to mass marketing and how those relationships have benefitted her business.

One aspect of deep marketing I’ve come to really love is podcasting. I think having a podcast and appearing on other podcasts has been one of the very best marketing strategies for me and my business - I enjoy the process, people get to know me and my approach intimately and I’ve had clients find me directly from my podcast presence. A lot of other entrepreneurs have picked up on the power of podcasting too, but a common obstacle is the pitching process.
To dive deep into pitching yourself to podcasts, we’re chatting with the fantastic Angie Trueblood. Angie is a podcast visibility strategist who helps business owners increase their reach by pitching themselves to podcasts big and small. She uses podcasting to grow her own business too, so she’s perfectly placed to tell us how podcasting can help you form deep relationships with your peers and create a consistent stream of quality clients.
Angie and I discuss how she got into this business, why she decided to focus her pitching efforts on podcasts and some of the strategies she’s used to get herself and her clients on shows with the right audiences. Angie also talks about the podcast pitching strategy she uses with her clients and how they test messaging, audience size and other aspects of podcasts that drive her clients’ success.

How do you feel about selling? Do you feel like it’s awkward, pushy, or your least favorite aspect of running a business? It’s so common for entrepreneurs to feel that way, especially if you’re in business largely because you love serving people. Today’s guest Nikki Rausch has great news for us though: sales don’t have to feel this way.
As a sales coach, author, speaker and founder of Sales Maven, Nikki transforms the misunderstood process of “selling” into techniques, tools, and tips that can be successfully incorporated into a process replicable by anyone whose livelihood relies on selling a product, a service, or themselves.
This topic and approach is a great fit for our month of Deep Marketing here on the podcast because it’s all about connecting with people in a way that actually resonates. Nikki and I talk about focusing on finding clients who are a right fit and how to tell if someone is going to be a good client for what you offer. We also chat about why people are so uncomfortable with sales, why you shouldn’t critique someone’s business in an attempt to get their business, and how to create curiosity in your audience so that they will seek you out.

Marketing can be so much more than the tactics and strategies that most of the online business world focuses on. It can and should be holistic. It should fit into the bigger picture of what your business is doing and it should also be a meaningful way for you to connect with people. Since I believe this is the ideal way for marketing to function, I want to talk about how to make your marketing flow better and feel less like a big risk that is prone to failure.
There are three pillars that make up holistic, effective marketing: a message that is meaningful, showing up with consistency, and evaluating how your marketing is affecting your business. I’m exploring each of these aspects of marketing in today’s episode, and this will set us up for an awesome month of marketing discussions with business owners who are putting these ideas into practice.
I want everybody to be able to show up in the channel(s) that they like and talk about why they love their work. That’s why it’s so essential to dig down into your strengths and the reason you got into business in the first place - this is the best way to connect with people who will love working with you and who you can serve at your highest ability.

This is the last episode in our Money Month series, and I hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as I have. I have found this month’s conversations to be really healing for my relationship with money, and I would love to share my top takeaways with you.
We are always thinking about money in some way, whether we’re excited about some income we have on the way, are stressed about money or some feeling in-between. So it’s crucial for us to unpack our beliefs about money and wealth so that we can decide what is really valuable - not just be guided by what other people think is worthwhile.
In this episode, I’m sharing some of my favorite lessons from the money experts we’ve hosted this month. We’ll talk about why wealth is relative, why we should stop comparing our ideas about money with other people’s and think about how much we really need to earn to live the life we want.

We have another great money discussion on the podcast today, and this one even blew my mind a bit! There are a lot of people in the online business world talking about and coaching on money mindset. But sometimes we need to go even deeper than our current mindset and dig into how the past shaped our relationship with money in the first place.
Nicole Lewis-Keeber is a business therapist and mindset coach who works with entrepreneurs to create and nurture healthy relationships with their businesses. She writes and speaks about the impact of small-t trauma on businesses, but she especially loves combining therapeutic processes with business coaching to help entrepreneurs build emotionally and financially stable businesses.
Nicole and I talk about how she decided to combine business coaching with her background as a therapist and social worker to develop this novel approach. We also discuss the role of our childhood in forming our money mindset and why it’s so important to unpack some of our longest-held beliefs if we want to develop a great relationship with our business.

Welcome back to the Money Month series! For our first interview of the month, we are diving into the motivations and habits that drive our spending, both personally and in our businesses. As you’ll hear from Jacquette, our relationship with money follows us everywhere we go - so it’s crucial to become mindful about the beliefs, choices and motivations that underlie our approach to money.
Jacquette Timmons is a financial behaviorist who provides direct, unbiased coaching and advice to accomplished professionals across the income and wealth spectrums. She also designs and delivers workshops and keynotes for corporations, non-profits and conferences. She loves providing answers to the money questions that have been nagging you for weeks, sometimes years, by blending creativity, analysis, and empathy to align how you create, manage and finance your goals.
Jacquette has an incredible wealth of knowledge on money and behavior, and she shares a lot of it with us in this episode. We start things off talking about why we shouldn’t financially compare ourselves to others and why we are always tempted to do it anyway. Jacquette then shares why having a profitable business doesn’t necessarily mean you’re doing well with your personal finances, too.
She also talks about what it’s like to work with her, the common pain points she sees clients struggling with and enlightens us about how our relationship with money can be a reflection of other relationships in our lives. Whether you’re a business owner or not, there is so much awesome stuff in this episode that you can apply to your own life & approach to money.
Welcome to Money Month! Throughout February we’re going to be talking about some of the “softer” skills around money. I thought it would be helpful to dive into our expectations around money, our relationships with it, and a few practical tips for managing it. This won’t be a super accounting-focused month, but it will require you to be a little uncomfortable - I know that examining our thoughts and practices around money can feel awkward.
I wanted to kick things off by telling you a bit more about my own relationship with money. I believe that our relationship with money is a really insightful way to examine our relationship with ourselves. Like most people, my beliefs around money stem from both how I grew up as well as the values I’ve developed as an adult.
In this episode, I’ll tell you about how my relationship with money has evolved and how I’ve recently shifted my mindset about my income. I will also talk a bit about why I find impact more motivating than monetary rewards, and how I’ve integrated that personality trait into the way I do my work. I’ll wrap up by sharing some questions you can ask yourself about money, including how much of it you need to feel free and stable.

Today we’re wrapping up a month full of amazing conversations about business models. Although it takes a while to find sometimes, we all have a unique business model that suits our work and our life perfectly. Our guest today has gone through several different business models with her company, and is one of the most talented people I’ve met when it comes to aligning the way she runs her business with her lifestyle.
Molly Mahar is a coach, teacher, and soon-to-be author. She founded her community Stratejoy in 2009 to create a safe space to talk about life’s big stuff. Stratejoy has evolved over the years from one-on-one and small group coaching into a community with masterminds and group programs that Molly helms each year.
I originally came across Molly’s work when she appeared on another podcast talking about her business model. I was so intrigued by her journey that I had to have her on Scaling Deep so we could dig below the surface of how and why her business has worked so well.
Molly and I talk about the growth of her business over the past decade and some of the business models she’s implemented over the years. She has a great sense of humor about the quirks of her business and why she’s so dedicated to shaping her work around her life rather than the other way around. We also talk about what spurred her growth at each stage, how and why she let go of the program that brought her business to a financially secure level and why she doesn’t believe in growth for growth’s sake.

Do you love they busyness running your business OR would rather go the simple route AND still get great results? I’m a big believer in the minimalist approach to everything.
Occasionally, you get brilliant new ideas for your business and would like to try out new things. Sometimes, you’re confident about those ideas and can’t wait to launch your offer. Other times, you have no clue if it’s going to work or not. Either way, before you invest so much of your hard-earned money and precious energy in building an entire program, it’s probably a smart idea to run a pilot of that business idea first to figure out:
The minimum viable effort approach to running a business can take your hesitation away. It helps to confirm that you’re on point and on topic before creating all the features that make your idea really exciting and powerful. The idea behind this approach is to keep things simple and focused, helping you truly understand your value proposition and buyer psychology.
In this episode, I’m excited to explain what the minimum viable approach to running a business is, reel out examples of what a minimum viable product might look like for your business and show you how you can try out new things in a minimum viable way. I also share instances of how I’m applying the minimum viable approach and why I can comfortably try out new things.

There are so many marketing strategies in the online business world, and you’ve probably learned from trial and error that some work better than others. But do you pay attention to how your marketing strategies make you feel, too? Do you notice which ones make you feel like you’re authentically connecting with your audience, versus those that make you want to crawl back into bed? Our guest today makes a really strong case for why you should pay attention to which marketing strategies make you feel the best - based on your personality.
Brit Kolo is the founder of Marketing Personalities, where she works with entrepreneurs and small business owners who crave a feel-good way to market and grow their businesses. They’re ready to market and grow their business in a feel-good, natural way, and has developed the Marketing Personalities to help them do just that.
Brit walks the walk: she has built her business model and marketing strategy around her own personality, and is a great example of how well this approach can work. Brit and I talk about her longtime interest in personality assessments, how and why she took the leap into entrepreneurship, and what she’s learned from her three businesses.

2019 was such a good year for me as I was able to pull into my strengths and figure out what needed more focus and what I needed to pull back from.
Although not necessarily my highest earning year, I gained traction in setting up my business with a sustainable strategy for consistency in revenue, being mindful about the things I did in my business, and being flexible in the number of work hours I put into the business on a weekly basis.
To wrap up the year, I’m delighted to share the top ten things I did in 2019 that actually worked in moving me closer to achieving my business goals.
Here’s my list of top 10 things that made 2019 was so fulfilling with much more clarity and focus than I had at the beginning:
Some of those things were expected while others were totally unexpected and unplanned, but they worked in perfect harmony to make 2019 amazing.
