Do no harm. Do good. Love God. That is how I discern any of my actions. If it's Christ-centered, it should fulfill all three. Anything from God, will never ask us to harm. It will always ask us to do good. And we should be able to see and love Christ through it all.
Here, we take a look at how our prayers can be complex sometimes. We are allowed to feel different, competing emotions. Life is filled with different moments and they all might bring about different emotions.
This morning we say farewell to Pastors Mike and Madeline Luzinski. While we are sad about them leaving, we are also filled with happiness, joy, & excitement for their continued ministry in Lake Nona.

We all take stances on a variety of topics & issues. You may have heard similar statements. I “support” X. I am in “favor” of Y. I am “for” Z. But despite our best efforts and all of our good intentions, being “for” something or someone is not the same as being “with” someone.
I am reading the book “Crimson Letters: Voices from Death Row” by Tessie Castillo. Even though I am only two chapters in (The prologue and chapter 1), I already feel this book moving me. It’s moving me on an intellectual, emotional, and a spiritual level.
So this reflection was based on a tinge of guilt I encountered while reading those two chapters. I am not even sure if “guilt” is the right word for what I was feeling. But it’s the best word I have for it at this time. Politically I support prison reform. I do not support the death penalty and the entire concept of privatized prisons just seems very bizarre to me. I share this not to make any particular policy claim (though I am unafraid to do so another time), but instead to provide insight and context to my reflection and prayer.
I was confused by this “guilt” because “on paper” my conscious is clear based on the policies I support. I do not support the death penalty so why did I feel a tinge of “guilt”.
I shared my confusion and initial reflections with a friend, Kolby, whom I am reading this book with. He was immediately able to put to words what my thoughts and feelings have been wrestling with.
Being “for” something/someone is different than being “with”.
Through this Reflection & Prayer time, I navigate the “objectification” of others. Because that’s what became clear. Being “for” something/someone (and leaving it at that) is NOT the same as being with. My guilt was not based on action or inaction. We are allowed to support different policies and leave it at that - that’s okay. My guilt was based on the realization that I thought supporting something was on the same level as being with someone. And in order to get to that conclusion - there is a level of objectification that occurs. Here me out - there are times where we need to "be objective”. We need to do this to function in life and to bring about good, positive, change. The difference is that the decision to be objective needs to be a conscious and intentional effort. When being “objective” becomes the default, that’s when we risk forgetting what being human is about.
It’s Pastor Mike’s last week with us and he leaves us with a very special message based on Ephesians 1:15-23.

A prayer inspired by my mom. A prayer that is helping me navigate the complex emotions I'm wrestling with. Knowing & seeing someone fight cancer is tough. This entire past year has been tough. Yet there has still been moments of hope, inspiration, and goodness.
This honest prayer wrestles with giving thanks to God while also acknowledging my anger, confusion, and sorrow in regards to the topic of cancer.
Life is filled with some dark moments. And those moments come without discrimination - it doesn't matter if it's Christmas (a season of hope and joy), sometimes, darkness comes even then. Pastor Cameron was diagnosed with a form of brain cancer in March of 2020 - right when CoVID-19 forced Asbury to adapt and switch to virtual church.
Since then he's been on medical leave. 9 months later, after undergoing surgery and continuing treatment, we learned that Pastor Cameron would not be returning as our Lead Pastor.

God provides in so many ways. God offers grace, mercy, forgiveness, hope, etc. Join us this week as we take a beat to reflect on how we can respond to God's gifts.
It's easy to lose hope in tough times. Some families have lost their only source of income. Some families are still struggling with varying degrees of racism in their communities.
The Jews wanted to impose their ways on the gentiles. The gentiles did not agree.
How can gratefulness transpire during such times?
God created the world, got us through messy politics, and gave us food. We have a lot to be thankful for. God's steadfast love endures forever.
From generation to generation God has been our dwelling place. We have been given the gift of time to use in a variety of ways. In the midst of it all (including pandemics), we can still grow in our faith and find rest. There are many ways to spend the time that we have. Being intentional with how we invest time can help us achieve physical, spiritual, emotional, and relational rest/peace/balance.
People are God's creation. We cannot forget that there is something special about every human. Feel free to disagree on policies, vote different ways, and use your voice to speak out against injustices - but be wise with your words. May everything we say and do ultimately be an act of worship. May we have the wisdom to see that using derogatory terms towards any group of people for voting differently, shows a disregard to their status as a human.
The road ahead can be long & scary. This message explores some of Moses's story - specifically how Moses knew that the road ahead was going to be quite challenging and intimidating. Our lives might not exactly be challenging & intimidating in the same way that Moses encountered those barriers, but we still have struggles. How can we have faith to push on with our calling? Are we going to trust God?
Human distraction leads us to bad places. God continues to make a way for us to be in relationship. Exodus 32:1-14
Sometimes peaceful conflict resolution still doesn't feel good. How is it that even though a conflict that checked off all the boxes for being respectful, civil, & peaceful, still can make us feel bad. Here's a prayer that wrestles with that concept.
Painful situations can lead us into community. We see that happen with Israel and the 10 Commandments. They were given the commandments as a guide to help the people live in beloved community. They are a path to living in healthy relationship with God and others.
What does unity look like in the midst of division? Even though we all have faults, scripture tells us that we are united in the body of Christ. In the body of Christ is where there is healing. How can we embrace this unity to work for good in the world?

A reflection & prayer on how God is with us even through the messiness. Sometimes we are the ones that are stuck in the messiness & sometimes we are called to be a voice of encouragement for others.

Matthew 22:34-40 34-36 When the Pharisees heard how he had bested the Sadducees, they gathered their forces for an assault. One of their religion scholars spoke for them, posing a question they hoped would show him up: “Teacher, which command in God’s Law is the most important?”
37-40 Jesus said, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.’ This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.’ These two commands are pegs; everything in God’s Law and the Prophets hangs from them.”
