It’s episode 212 with Laura Pearson, number one best-selling author of The Last List of Mabel Beaumont and several other novels dealing with life, love and loss, including the new paperback release of a book called Missing Pieces, which I read and loved. I chatted to Laura about the joys of procrastination, or ‘thinking time’, as we like to call it, reading outside your genre and the journey to her current success, which has involved lots of perseverance and keeping the words and stories flowing throughout. It’s a fun conversation that I know you’ll love.
Laura is the author of multiple novels, including The Last List of Mabel Beaumont which was a Kindle number one bestseller in the UK and a top ten bestseller in the US. Laura lives in Leicestershire, England, with her husband, their two children, and a cat who likes to lie on her keyboard while she tries to write and her latest release is the paperback version of Missing Pieces, which you can find everywhere right now.

https://chtbl.com/track/73G45B/traffic.libsyn.com/secure/joinedupwriting/JoinedUp177.mp3It’s episode 177, a very short catch-up episode before the guests start coming thick and fast over the next few weeks and months, but I’m going to talk a bit about feedback and critique, getting through tough writing times and giving you an idea of who we’ve got coming up on future episodes.
In preparation for this episode I had a quick listen to the introduction to the last show I put out all the way back in August and it’s clear to me now why I (subconsciously or otherwise) decided to take a break. I was very much in the doldrums with my writing, plodding away on the endless treadmill of rejection while I submitted my book, Safe Hands. There was also stuff going on in my personal life that was taking the shine off my normally positive exterior. The good news is I’m now back, feeling more positive than I have for a while and with lots of plans for the year to come and beyond.
So this little episode sets up the year ahead and gets us all ready for a happy, healthy and productive 2023. Who’s in?

Episode 96 is an unscheduled bonus episode with award-winning screenwriter, Jeff Pope.
Jeff is a BAFTA winning producer and screenwriter who’s written dozen of superb TV programmes and films – including Philomena, with Steve Coogan, Cradle To The Grave with Danny Baker, Pierrepoint, Little Boy Blue and his most recent film, Stan and Ollie which I was lucky enough to see last week. It stars Steve Coogan and John C Reilly in the untold story of Laurel and Hardy’s british tour in 1953. It’s funny, poignant and I can’t recommend it enough.
Thanks to Ross Owen of The Laurel and Hardy Podcast for setting up the interview and make sure you check out the film here. You can also see the cast and crew interviews I did on the red carpet BFI Premiere, with cameraman, Matt Holt, here.
