"The God Boy" was written in 2003-4 while the composer was a lecturer at the University of Otago. The libretto was written several years earlier by Jeremy Commons, based on the famous novel by New Zealander, Ian Cross. In 2004 Opera Otago staged the first production in the Mayfair Theatre in Dunedin, with four performances running from October 1st-8th. This production was included as part of the Otago Festival of the Arts, and received funding from Creative NZ. It was recorded on October 4th at Albany Street Studios, Dunedin, with assistance of a University of Otago Humanities Grant. Mixing and mastering was completed by Stu Harwood.
