The Beatitudes are the constitution of the kingdom of God, and they set the standard for how followers of Jesus are meant to live every day of the week. Today, Pastor Gene walks through the final four beatitudes found in Matthew 5. And there is a very important key found in this passage regarding unforgiveness. Unforgiveness is the one thing that will shut down a prayer life completely, no matter how disciplined or devoted a person may be. So, the call this week is simple but not easy: allow the Holy Spirit to identify an area in your life that you have been withholding mercy, and take one concrete step toward forgiveness.

Many Christians go through the motions of church life without ever experiencing deep, lasting transformation. At the center of the Sermon on the Mount sit 66 words that Jesus placed there intentionally: the Lord's Prayer. These words are not simply a prayer to recite but a path to walk, forming the root system from which a truly transformed life grows. The Beatitudes open the Sermon on the Mount with a picture of what a genuinely transformed person looks like, from humility and mourning to meekness and a hunger for righteousness. Real discipleship is not about attending more services or completing more programs. It is about allowing those 66 words, prayed faithfully and consistently, to do a quiet and powerful work beneath the surface of the soul.

Two men faced the same storm. One stood firm. One collapsed. The difference was not the storm itself but the foundation beneath each man. The closing declaration of the Lord's Prayer - Yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory - is more than just words; it's a powerful spiritual tool. Rooted in King David's worship in 1 Chronicles 29, this declaration accomplishes four key things in our spiritual lives. It opens heaven's gates through praise, grants us permission to access our authority as joint heirs with Christ, helps us surrender control to God's perfect will, and serves as our confession of God's unchanging sovereignty. When we declare these words, we shift the spiritual atmosphere and position ourselves to receive everything God wants to give us.

Scripture reveals that Jesus constantly intercedes for us at the Father's right hand. When we pray the Lord's Prayer, we can envision Jesus translating each petition to the Father on our behalf. As we ask for God's name to be hallowed, Jesus tells the Father how we want Him at the center of our lives. When we pray for His kingdom to come, Jesus asks the Father to expand His work in our lives. Each petition becomes an opportunity for Jesus to advocate for God's perfect will, provision, forgiveness, protection, and glory to be manifest. Scripture consistently portrays God as a deliverer who sees His people's suffering and actively intervenes. From the Exodus, where God declared He had come to deliver His people from Egyptian bondage, to Daniel's rescue from the lion's den, to Hezekiah's miraculous deliverance from the Assyrian army, we see a pattern of divine rescue. These accounts reveal God's character as one who responds to desperate cries for help with swift and decisive action. And the beautiful truth is that He still delivers His children today. When Jesus taught us to pray 'Lead us not into temptation,' He wasn't suggesting God tempts us. God tests us through external circumstances to build spiritual maturity, while Satan uses our deceitful hearts to turn these tests into internal temptations toward sin. The key difference is purpose: God's tests refine and strengthen our faith, while temptations seek to destroy it. We must learn to watch and pray, recognizing that spiritual warfare is ongoing throughout our lives. Rather than treating persistent sins like comfortable companions, we need to wage aggressive war against them using Scripture, prayer, fasting, and biblical community as our weapons.

When Jesus taught us to pray "Thy kingdom come," He was inviting us to ask for God's perfect reign to be established in our lives. The Kingdom of God isn't a distant place but refers to God's rule and authority. This Kingdom is both a present reality and a future hope awaiting complete fulfillment.
Throughout the Old Testament, God desired to rule His people directly, but they repeatedly chose human kings who ultimately failed. Jesus came as the perfect King, demonstrating a Kingdom that operates through sacrifice and service rather than force and power. When we pray for God's Kingdom to come, we're asking Him to replace our imperfect rule with His perfect governance in every area of our lives. The Christian life is a battleground, not a playground. Biblical marriage is a sacred covenant designed to reflect Christ's relationship with His church, not merely a romantic partnership or legal contract. Many believers struggle with anxiety, unworthiness, anger, and insecurity because they haven't fully embraced their true identity in Christ. In chapter 3 of Ephesians, Paul confirms that identity that we are to live in. He then concludes the chapter praying for supernatural understanding of God's immeasurable love - a love that surpasses human knowledge. When we're rooted and grounded in this love, we can experience exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think. The transformation is evident in Paul himself, who went from persecuting Christians to becoming the greatest missionary in history through one encounter with God's love. Our prayer for you today is that you would have that same encounter with the Father's love!

Through His death on the cross, Jesus didn't just provide individual salvation but created supernatural community where former enemies become family. The same principle applies today as believers often create dividing walls over worship styles, politics, and cultural differences. Jesus calls us beyond casual Christianity to deep community where we find our primary identity in Him rather than our differences. When Christ becomes our cornerstone, the walls separating believers crumble, allowing God's presence to dwell fully in the unified community He died to create.

Continuing in this teaching on growing in the favor of God, we look at one of the most unique covenant relationships in all of Scripture between Jonathan and David. What we find are some beautiful shadows of our relationship with Jesus Christ as new covenant believers. We pray you are blessed and encouraged by this teaching today!
We desire to walk in the favor of God at all times. Not only that, but we desire to grow in our understanding of His favor. In part three of this teaching, Pastor Gene unpacks the importance of understanding being in covenant with the Father and the power of our confessions with the words we speak. Deuteronomy 28 says, “… if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord…,” and proceeds to describe the favor that is available to you as someone who walks in covenant with the Lord. Our prayer for you as you listen to this is that God would release new levels of favor on your life and give you greater understanding of walking in covenant with Him.
This Sunday, Pastor Gene introduces the revelation of growing in favor with God. We all need His favor operating in our lives. Jesus himself grew in this area over the course of his life, so why would we not also? The favor of God is all around us. It goes before us and comes behind us. It is something that we grow in continually in our lives, and something we can slip out of. In this message on the favor of God, Pastor Gene Wolfenbarger looks at the life of David and how he was out of the favor of God, but by using the power of his words and the promises of God, came back into favor and covenant with God. It is easy to let the defeat in our past determine the victory in our future, but the favor of God will change your life, your family, your business, and your children. This week's message focuses on the Romans 1:14-22 passage, in which Paul discusses the sins of idolatry and the unrighteousness of mankind.

We also look at how God's love and faithfulness can bring mercy and peace in the midst of difficult times, and the importance of taking ownership of our own spiritual journeys.
Paul gives some practical advice in this section, such as having a humble heart and maintaining a good conscience before God.
The gospel is a reminder of God's true character, as a faithful and loving Father.

As Pastor Gene Wolfenbarger concludes this message on being truly saved, he highlights this last critical point: our assurance is not in our past, but in the current state of our walk with Christ. When we are walking in repentance, walking in faith, spending time with God in the secret place, and are in an active, daily relationship with Him, that is where we find our assurance. We repent when He says to repent. We love when He says to love. We give when He says to give. We live under His Lordship. That is what it means to follow Jesus, but there has to be an inward change of heart. We have to see Him as the Lord of our life with a new awe and reverence. We pray that Lord would open our eyes to see Him in all His glory and His power, and that He would place a new fear of the Lord inside of us like never before.
The law reveals how much we need a savior and it also is instructive in how to live out our faith in the world. It also identifies what sort of God it is who sends His Son and adopts others as His children.

What does it mean to be truly saved? Is it praying a special prayer when you were a child? Is it being nice to the person in front of you at the store? Is it rededicating your life as an adult? Growth always requires change. But change doesn’t always bring growth. The Spirit must guide us and lead us through change.
Those of us who consider ourselves spiritually sophisticated at avoiding truth will often seek to excuse ourselves. Often silencing the truth with a thousand definitions and a thousand qualifications. Sometimes we redefine the question so that it becomes unanswerable. When that doesn't work, we define the answer so that it no longer applies.
The parables about the Kingdom in Matthew 13 remind us about God’s activity in our world and the proper response to it.
A parable is a story or an illustration that us used to teach a bigger truth. In the parable of the Sower, we find out that Jesus uses an everyday situation to describe a supernatural possibility.
We live in a fast moving world full of opinions, and it can be easy to let our opinion of any one thing take over in a moment. But we as Believers are not called to live according to our opinion; we are called to live according to God’s opinion. He is the King of Mercy, and wants to be known first and foremost as merciful. We as His ambassadors are called to carry that mercy and extend it to one another. The Bible says, “God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy.” (Matthew 5:7) Listen to this encouraging message, and ask the Lord today, “what would you have me do to show your mercy today?”.
God always keeps his promises. And so, when the Kingdom of God began to come among us in the person of Jesus Christ (Mark 1:1, 14, 15), that One born of the house and lineage of David came as the descendant of Zerubbabel (Matt. 1:12; Luke 3:27) and as the beginning of the fulfillment of this word to Haggai the prophet. He introduced God’s Kingdom which has no end (Luke 1:32–33), which will overthrow every rule and authority and power (1 Cor. 15:24–26) and which cannot be shaken or ever pass away (Heb. 12:28). The word of God spoken by Haggai the prophet began to find its fulfillment in Jesus Christ our Lord.

In part three of this message on living in Kingdom Finances, Pastor Gene Wolfenbarger talks about the blessings that come from sowing a seed into the Kingdom of God. There are multiple times throughout the Bible where a man if faithful to give to God in the midst of a season of famine, and every time God’s people reap abundance! There is a time to sow the seed and a time to reap the harvest. God looks for people He can promote in a famine. In order to live a life of Kingdom Finances, it is crucial to understand God’s Kingdom Principles. As Pastor Gene continues Part two of Kingdom Finances, he shows us that there are Kingdom Principles that shape our provision. While God is a God of provision, that comes with conditions we as believers are called to walk in. We often assume that because of God’s promises He will always provide, but that is not the whole story. There are conditions laid out in The Word of God that have to come first to see provision in our lives. Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek FIRST the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” When we seek the Kingdom of God above all else and love one another like Christ loves us, our provision and finances will come into alignment with The Word of God and the Will of God. Fasting is a short season, but has eternal benefits! As we continue to fast and pray in this season, Pastor Gene Wolfenbarger teaches on Isaiah 58 and the rewards that come with Biblical fasting. Peter was a witness at the mount of transfiguration and yet he tells us in his letter that there is something better; God's word.

The Apostle Peter wrote his second letter to the church because he knew his time on earth was short. He wanted to give them something to help them grow in their faith after his departure. He was especially concerned to instruct them against the teachings of the false prophets that were threatening the downfall of their faith. Now, nearly 2000 years later, we still read his letter and find the strength we need to overcome the lies that are arising both within and without the church. False teaching everywhere abounds, so this letter is just as relevant and timely today as when it was first penned. This sermon series will enable us to stand firm in our faith until our Lord comes.
Paul charges Timothy with the task to defend God's truth. His second letter to the young preacher is the last one before he is beheaded by a Roman sword. His passion for the gospel transpires through this letter encouraging all believers to trust God's word at all cost.
We are all going somewhere, sometimes is not intentional; time goes by whether we want to or not. But as believers we are called to intentionally run the race of faith.
The roots of the discontent of the human heart go deep. Jesus offers us what we really need.
When Paul wrote to Timothy and urged him to defend God's truth by preaching God's word, he didn't give him a motivational speech to encourage him to stay. Instead, Paul made a strong emphasis on the reason why Jesus came; to save sinners. We are to live not only for what God has done or for what He will do, but mostly with a constant awareness of His presence and power here and now.
Paul's letter to Timothy speaks to us today as we face opposition and encounter a diluted gospel on every corner. How do we push through and continue to speak truth in love?
In this inspiring message, we hear stories about God's power being manifested in people's lives. Our God is powerful and He is waiting on us to move forward in faith.
Our assignments and destinies come with obstacles, mountains. But we are to shout "grace, grace to it!" and God will make the mountain a plain! In this new teaching, Pastor Gene dives in to the importance of being in The Word, and finding stability in its truths in such an unstable world. In this first teaching, Pastor Gene describes the first fundamental truth that we have the revelation of how good and faithful God is! That is our first step to overcoming our mountains because when we chase after God our mountains disappear. Ask God to give you a greater revelation of His goodness. There is not an obstacle that will stop you from doing what God put you on this planet to do.
Proverbs 31 lays out the virtuous, wise woman. A woman who is disciplined, who has integrity, and who does not walk in fear of the future. After spending an entire book telling men to be wise, Solomon uses the last chapter of Proverbs to show that there is already an example of wisdom in a woman. Pastor Gene uses the Hebrew translations to show how God built wisdom into a woman when Eve was created. While discerning wisdom was built into a woman, men seek after it and ask God for it. James 1:5-8 "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God..." Everyone is praying for a miracle, but is wisdom the miracle we are all looking for? We pray for moms and women that they would walk in the wisdom that God has given them, and that He would use them to shape the course of their families. We pray for men who need a breakthrough for whatever obstacles are in from of them to ask God for wisdom in that circumstance!
The concept of love has been abused and misused in many ways. When Jesus was asked which one of all the commandments was the most important, He responded with love.
When you are born again, you trust Him to lead you into a new kind of life that saves you from being separated from God.
Are you growing in your faith? As we continue this teaching on the book of Hebrews, Pastor Gene looks at chapter 5, and teaches on growing in our relationship with Christ. It is easy to confuse spiritual maturity with success, but maturity is not about what we do. It’s about who we become in Christ, and the plan God has for each of us. It’s not something we can borrow from our parents, or something we can just ignore because we listen to any spiritually mature teachers or pastors. Growing in maturity is an expectation of believers. We are called to teach one another, and the more we grow closer to Jesus, the more we will be trusted to steward here on earth. But growing in spiritual mature means completely rearranging of our priorities. We cannot grow closer to Jesus when we prioritize our jobs, our relationships, or our success before Him. Growing closer to Him is our first priority!
If you had to break down regular, daily prayer to its most basic level, in which nothing could be deleted without real loss, you would have the prayer Jesus modeled for his disciples.
The Lord’s Prayer shows us what is important, what we should focus on, what matters.
Our life in eternity will not be determined by the days that we spend in this life, but by the moments we have. Throughout history, it’s moments that define men & women, great leaders. Most great men and women throughout history can go back to one specific moment when everything changed. As followers of Jesus, we are called to find Him in the moments, but that is only possible when we are continually in His Word, fully devoted. Joshua and Caleb were not just reading the Bible once a year. They were spending time with the Father continually. That is why they did not miss Him in the moment. God has created specific moments in each of our lives, and we all have the opportunity to encounter Him in them. However, we will miss the moments if we are not preparing and tuning our hearts and minds to Him. No one can be you. No one can replace you in your moments. If you do not show up today to be who God has called you to be, there will be a whole in history; we will miss the moments. We pray that a fresh spirit of revival fall in each of our lives to take up our cross, to be who God made us, and to follow Him into the moments He has prepared for each of us!
When it comes to Christians confronting people about wrong behavior, the Bible makes a distinction between how we approach fellow Christians and how we handle those outside the Church.
Do you live for God on your terms, or do you live for God on His terms? In this week’s teaching, we look at just how much our faith says about our devotion. Many of us would say that we live boldly for Jesus, but would we truly live boldly in faith when that means being in the minority? Would we have enough faith to be like Joshua and Caleb when everyone else said that the giants were too big? Are we living life saying the obstacle is too big, or are we living life telling the obstacle how big our God is? We pray that this message encourages you today to evaluate and refocus your faith on our Father, and not what the world around us says!
As we continue this teaching on devotion, Pator Gene begins to walk through the book of Hebrews. This book has many warnings in it, and one warns to not drift from Jesus. It is easy to become casual about following Jesus, and to forget in the day-to-day just how good He is. But He, Jesus, was never casual about being a sacrifice for each of us. He showed up willing to surrender everything so that we could be perfect in the eyes of our Father. Some of us have given up so much to follow Jesus. Why stop now? Why get relaxed or casual about being devoted to the King of Kings and Lord or Lords, the One who laid down His life for us? Only the best of our destinies are ahead, so why turn back now?
Jesus the ultimate portrayal of unconditional love. John 15:13 says, “greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends”. God’s plan was always Jesus. From the beginning of time, this incredible love was prophesied then delivered to end the tyranny of darkness. Jesus stepped in front of us and bore the sins of the world so that we may be forever loved and forgiven.
There is no man that can do what Jesus did for each of us 2,000 years ago on the cross. He is worthy of our love, our lives, our time, and our treasures. We should not be choosing to follow His plan when it is convenient for us, or when we have made time for it. We should put aside anything that hinders us, and meet our plans for our lives with His. He is worthy of our faithfulness and full devotion. We pray that this week you will get a fresh revelation of just how good our Heavenly Father is, and begin to walk in greater faithfulness.
Jesus is worthy of our full devotion! He was CHOSEN by God to be His representative here on Earth. The Bible says that "I have placed Him." But are we ready for when He returns? Have we truly made room for Him in our hearts? It's not about us. It's all about Him. We love Him because He first loved us. We encourage you to pray this wee about what may be in your hearts that has compromised your devotion to Him.
While we don’t always center the Palm Sunday message around this clearing of the temple, it is very much a part of Jesus’s triumphal entry—illustrating once again that the people expected the Messiah to look a very particular way.
The way they expected him to look was like the military leaders of the world—but Jesus looked very different. He came to usher in a kingdom different than the one they thought they wanted, and clearing the temple was just one way Jesus illustrated, in profoundly strong ways, that something else was happening here. The kingdom of God had come, and was coming, and it didn’t look like they thought it would.
The way to resurrection is through the cross. There is no other way. Resurrection cannot be experienced without death. So we travel in the way of Jesus on the blood-sprinkled road he walked out of love, grace, and obedience. We follow the same way. We know where the path leads, and still we follow.
Despite the miracles happening right in front of them, the disciples still didn’t understand the radical work of Jesus.

In part 3 of this teaching, we see how God used the brokenness in Joseph’s life. It's in the waiting that we experience brokenness. It is there that we are refined, and we grow closer to God. God always uses brokenness to trust us with more. If we can steward what we have been given in the trails and tests of life, He is faithful to bless us with more than we can imagine. We cannot always see God when we are in the waiting, but He is always working!
Who is this man? Waves and wind obey him. Demons are commanded with power. And we are all set free to live lives of wholeness and community. Whatever is trapping us, whatever is keeping us away from wholeness and community, Jesus desires to set us free. But he also desires to set those around us free too.
As we continue learning about pursuing our dreams, Pastor Gene shows us just how much waiting Joseph did before he saw his dream begin to flourish. Through the trials and in the waiting, He is there! In the waiting, we grow closer to Him, and He refines us. Our Father will never leave us or forsake us, and we pray that this message reminds you just how close He always is!
There is celebration in the harvest feast. The parable of the sower is an appropriate one for this season of hardship, sacrifice, and growth. We might not think of this passage right away when we think of Lenten scriptures, but it is a reminder for us that our season of sacrifice should also be a season of growth and celebration as we reflect on the grace of God in the midst of it all.
Fasting had been twisted into an act that wasn’t about the grace of God; it had become instead a way to earn God’s favor. There are many issues with this type of legalistic approach to fasting, but one dangerous aspect of collateral damage happens when we are so focused on fasting that we lose our ability to feast.
The story of Joseph is a great example of when God’s plan flourishes into us living out our destiny. Pastor Gene walks us through the life of Joseph, and how he found favor because of his faith and integrity. Though he experienced many tests, God was faithful to fulfill Joseph’s dream and destiny, and he will do the same for you! No matter where you are in the steps of walking out your purpose, God is faithful to meet you there, and remind you of your part in His plan!
Paul's understanding of his identity in Christ compelled him to continue to live with purpose. He was determined to let everyone know about God's grace.
As Pastor Gene continues this teaching on time, he shows us just how faithful our Heavenly Father is to use our time. Your life is not an accident or mistake. God created you with a purpose and destiny that is part of His plans. We start at the beginning with His plans and end by walking out our destiny, but all the steps in between are used to get us there. God does not tell us how to make every step, but he does place opportunities along the way to guide us. Even though we may miss an opportunity we will never miss our destiny.
God has encounters for each individual throughout life, however, your time management has the power to either receive those moments or miss them. Time is the greatest commodity the Lord has been given us, but we never feel like there is enough. As individuals, we prioritize our time with to-do’s when we should be looking for the moments God has placed in our lives to bless others. In this message, Pastor Gene teaches on managing our time with the Father so that we can see the moments He is placing in our lives.
The letter to the Ephesians offers an apparently simplistic response to pressing needs. In Christ, who is now Lord of the cosmos and the destined final point toward which history is moving, God has spelled out a concern for the world and its people. The simplicity of the letter is its genius.
"You shall not covet..." -Ex. 20:17
A lifestyle of contentment counteracts an unhealthy desire for more.
"You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor." -Ex. 20:16
The words that come out of our mouths are a direct reflection of the integrity of our hearts.
"You shall not steal." -Ex. 20:15
Stealing is not only sin, but also shows a distrust in God’s ability and willingness to provide.
We are a product of our words! Our words have the power to call those things that are not as though they are. Our Father wants to use our words to bring our dreams and passions to fruition on the earth. In this teaching, Pastor Gene discusses the importance of using the power of our words to speak life in our circumstances!
"You shall not commit adultery." -Ex. 20:14
God calls us to be faithful in our relationships with Him and with each other.
As our country enters a new transition period, Pastor Gene teaches on what it means to encourage hope and unity in our atmospheres. That starts with prayer! We pray for our city. We pray for our leaders and candidates. We pray that we would have the humility and wisdom to trust God's Word and his will!
"You shall not murder.” -Ex. 20:13
Respect for life stands at the center of God’s laws for our world.
The authority of the Believer is something that often gets overlooked, but it is one of the most life-changing gifts that our Father has given us! It is nothing more than delegated power from Him to use in our lives. Every person has their own individual circumstances that are unique to them. You can either live under your circumstances or you can have power over them. When we exercise our authority, we can alter every circumstance in our lives! Pastor Gene shows us the importance and power of using our authority as a son or daughter in the Kingdom of God.
"Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you." -Ex. 20:12
God’s plan for our well-being includes healthy (godly) family relationships.
In this message, Pastor Gene talks about living in a season of restoration. The seed you sow is directly tied to your future favor and restoration. In Malachi it tells us to test the Lord with our giving, and He will bless us abundantly. When you learn to give in the worst of times, you will reap that blessing and harvest in the best of times! This is a season that we encourage you to dwell with the Lord, and partner with Him and His promises!
From Paul's letter to the Corinthians, Pastor Jorge shares four reasons why we should be generous. In Jesus we see the greatest example of giving. We hope this message encourages you to model generosity God's way.
"Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy." -Ex. 20:8
Each week, God invites us to a special time of worship and rest.
"You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name." -Ex. 20:7
We honor God’s name not just by the words we use, but also by the way we live.
"You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below." -Ex. 20:4
Substitutes for God will diminish God’s role in our lives.
This first commandment says to us that a right relationship begins with an acknowledgement of who God is (Exodus 20:2) and there must be no rivals to God’s rightful place in our lives (Exodus 20:3). Loving God completely also means that we express godly love toward others (Matthew 22:36-39).
As we take time to celebrate the Head of the Year, Rosh Hashanah, Pastor Gene goes more in depth about the importance of this study about living under an open heaven. He takes the time to explain that this study is not about living under the old covenant, but living in alignment with God’s calendar is about being obedient because of grace! We don’t give so that we can become rich. We give because we know how great God is! Any study of the Ten Commandments must begin with God. As we begin, we must not forget that the same God who gave these laws to us is the God who delivered His people from slavery. If we do for-get, we do a great disservice to God, these commandments, and to ourselves. We have all too often turned these commands into a static law code rather than a way of life in relationship with the God who gave them to us. If we don’t know anything about this law-giving God, how much value can these commandments actually have for us?

There is a form of greed that has nothing to do with money. Though similar in many ways to material greed, this greed is subtle, making it more seductive and therefore more serious.
In the post-exilic period, a secure Jerusalem not only played a significant role in the faith of the Jewish people but also for the economy and political situation of the Persian Empire. How should the people of God respond in such situations? How might God’s people discern when our faith is being “taken advantage of” or even “used” by the powers in the world? Anytime our freedom to worship and live out our faith is threatened, we should pray and stand firm on our God given identity as His Sons and Daughters.

The story of how God restored His people continues in the books of Ezra and Nehemiah with the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s wall. God had orchestrated reconstruction of the temple (Ezra 1—6) and reordered community life according to His law (Ezra 7—10). Now God determined to secure the city He claimed as His own. For this task God selected Nehemiah. In this message, we will discover that believers must cultivate passion for the things of God.
This weekend Pastor Gene continued in his teaching on the book of James. He focused this week on two different types of people; the poor godly man, and the rich ungodly man. James clearly states that earthly riches are so fleeting, but those who place their hope in eternity will be greatly rewarded in the age to come. After the Jewish exiles finished building the Jerusalem temple we might expect spiritual life in the community to be at a high. The grandeur of the building and its services surely inspired great worship experiences. But within a few generations of the temple’s completion Ezra the scribe arrived in Jerusalem to find things otherwise.
Pastor Gene continued teaching on James this weekend, focusing on joy. We are all guaranteed to walk through tests in our lives, but as Christians, we are called to, “count it all joy,” as James says, when we face these tests. The Jewish exiles had been given a formidable assignment. They must rebuild the great Jerusalem temple that had lain in ruins for half a century. Such a project would require enormous resources and their very best efforts, for the temple represented much more than the revitalization of the Jewish people. This weekend, Pastor Gene begins teaching on the book of James and some practical lessons we can all glean from. This week he starts off by teaching on the kind of man James was; specifically his servanthood. The disciples were suddenly overtaken by fear and uncertainty. Then the resurrected Jesus shows up and speaks peace into their lives.

Jesus wept over a city that could not understand His desire and purposes. Today we can also confuse God's plan for our lives; He wants to give us peace in the midst of crisis.
The aching bellies were filled with bread and fish, but it didn’t take long before those bellies began to rumble again. Hungry people heard of the miracle, and they began to seek out Jesus to see if the miracle he performed once would happen again—to see if they could be part of the next one. Only, when they came to Jesus, he admonished them about looking for temporary fulfillment; about looking to have their stomachs’ filled for a moment when what he was offering was so much more than that.
We are constantly reminded of death, even by the deep, dark colors that symbolize Lent and Holy Week. Death feels so pervasive it can be almost suffocating. We may know that feeling in our own lives or see it in the people around us. It can be easy to sink into hopelessness and despair in the midst of it all, to let the darkness overcome us. But there is a voice calling to us in the midst of that darkness.
At one time it was very popular to ask the question “What would Jesus do?” The question was posed to help people think through decisions. But the question for the baptized is not a question of behavior modification but identity transformation.
Central Passage: Romans 6:1-14
Pastor Corey spoke this weekend on different offering types found in Leviticus. The book of Leviticus describes the five offerings, and how God's people in the Old Testament were required to bring an offering in order to be in right relationship with God. But because of Jesus was our one and only offering, we now stand in right relationship in God's eyes - wholly accepted and without blemish.
