Owen is Provost and Research Professor of Theology at Grace Bible Theological Seminary (GBTS). Strachan has authored numerous books, including Reenchanting Humanity: A Theology of Mankind, The Pastor as Public Theologian: Reclaiming a Lost Vision (with Kevin Vanhoozer), and the recent Christianity and Wokeness: How the Social Justice Movement Is Hijacking the Gospel—and the Way to Stop it. Strachan is the former president of the Council on Biblical Manhood & Womanhood, the former director of The Center for Public Theology at MBTS, and he is the president of Reformanda Ministries.

He earned his PhD from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, his MDiv from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and his AB from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.

In Old Testament times, in order to get into the presence of God, one had to pass through multiple veils. The veils were the things that kept one from His perfect presence. Porn is bad for you. Again...porn is bad for you! That's what this episode is about. Even though we all know the toxicity of the issue, it continues to be a problem. There's plenty of statistical evidence that shows what happens physiologically when you consume and get addicted to porn. There are plenty of stories of people who have tried to hide their habit and let it destroy them from the inside out. Yet it remains present, and something we must address. Listen in as the guys get real in a no-holds barred conversation about porn. If you take anything from this episode, it should be this: porn is bad for you.

A few episodes ago (season 7, episodes 13 and 14) we discussed humility and vulnerability. In this podcast we discuss authenticity and how it correlates with those other two characteristics. In order to be effective in Christian community, we need to be authentic. Being authentic means being true to one's own personality, spirit, or character. Our sinful nature tells us to hide our truth, to not be authentic. But, as we discussed with both of the other qualities, when we are authentic with who we are and with those around us, the only thing that happens is spiritual growth in the image of God. In this episode, we had the pleasure to interview Richard Capriola about his new book "The Addicted Child." This book is a parent's guide to adolescent substance abuse. In non-technical language parents learn how to identify and find treatment programs for their child. Brief chapters explain substances being used by today's adolescents and the process addictions which accompany substance abuse, like self-harm and eating disorders.

Richard Capriola spent 11 years working as an addictions counselor for Menninger Clinic in Houston Texas before retiring in 2019. Menninger Clinic is one of the top ten psychiatric hospitals in the United States and specializes in the assessment, stabilization and treatment of adults and adolescents with substance abuse and psychiatric disorders. During his tenure there he worked in the Adolescent Treatment program and the adult Comprehensive Psychiatric Assessment and Stabilization program. Working closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and nurses he was responsible for comprehensive assessments and individual and group counseling with patients diagnosed with substance use disorders.

"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus" (1 Thess 5:16-18). On January 2, 2023, football fans witnessed Damar Hamlin suffer a severe medical emergency, being resuscitated on the field and taken to the hospital where he went through a miraculous recovery. In situations like this, it's important for legacy dads (and moms) to use it as a teachable moment. When we see something like that happen, how do we rejoice? How do we pray? Three days after the Dobbs' decision was released by the Supreme Court of the United States, Anderson and DeSanctis' book "Tearing Us Apart: How Abortion Harms Everything and Solves Nothing" hit the shelves. In their book they describe the fact that there is hope in the ruins of Roe v. Wade. From the description, "Abortion hollows out marriage and the family. It undermines the rule of law and corrupts our political system. It turns healers into executioners and 'women's health' into a euphemism for extermination." If you are a Legacy Dad looking for ways to defend the pro-life / anti-abortion stance, this book is for you.

That's what it says. It doesn't say "separation of church and state." It doesn't say that anywhere in the Constitution of the United States of America. Continuing the "God in Action" series, we hear the story of Brandon from Camp Royal. After the loss of his Dad while he was a young boy, Brandon spent a lot of time trying to find his identity. It wasn't until God reminded him (multiple times, really) to trust his real Father that Brandon found his identity in Christ. As Christians, we are told to expect suffering. But what does that look like? "God never answers my prayers!" Chances are, as a Christian, you've probably felt like this one time in your life. God's word contains plenty of instruction for how a husband and wife should be in relationship with each other. In this week's podcast, Dave and Dante discuss 1 Peter 3:1-7...but mostly verse 7.
