This month we have a shock announcement to make as after almost 6 years of releasing the pod, this will be our final episode! This month we speak to Dr Monika Radikė who is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Radiologist at the Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital. We discuss advanced Cardiac imaging, turf wars and research and explore her experiences working in leading centres across Europe including Lisbon, Barcelona, Brussels and London.
This month we speak to Dr Salman Qureshi who is a Consultant Head & Neck Radiologist at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City/Mayo Clinic in Abu Dhabi, having formerly held consultant posts in Qatar and Manchester. We discuss his enthusiasm for medical education and how this takes him all over the world delivering lectures on the global conference circuit. We also take a slight detour from our usual theme to discuss Salman's newfound passion for walking, which has sparked a lifestyle and body transformation that he hopes to share with the world through social media.
This month we speak to Dr Susie Shelmerdine who is an Academic Paediatric Radiologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. We discuss her niche subspecialty interest, post mortem imaging, and how she has channelled this interest into founding a company called Anubix. We also discuss academia, AI and her recent Radiology outreach trip to Nepal. Enjoy!
This month we speak to Dr David Little who is a Consultant Radiologist and Head of School of Severn Radiology. We delve into the MAP debate and discuss the open letter he wrote to the RCR about PA regulation in October which gained over 1200 signatures. He also tells us what it was like running for RCR President in 2002 and we get his perspective on Radiology recruitment as a member of the RCR recruitment subcommittee including his strong views on the MSRA and top tips for anyone applying this year.
This month we chat to Dr Dan Fascia who is a Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist, Regional Clinical Director of the Yorkshire Imaging Collaborative and Chair of the RCR Informatics Committee. We discuss the ideal tech set-up for radiologists, the current state of AI adoption in the NHS and beyond with tools like Chat GPT. We also discuss his various entrepreneurial/educational ventures including Pacsbin and Radiology Masters.
This month we chat to Dr Rahil Kassamali, a British Interventional Radiologist who in 2020 quit the NHS and took up a post at Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar. IR is often neglected in discussions around Radiologists working abroad so he gives us a great insight into how made the switch and whether he would recommend it to others. His experience of working in a public healthcare system in Qatar also provides an interesting contrast to our episode 52 guest, Umi's, experience of working in private healthcare in Dubai.
In this episode we speak to Dr Michael Bernstein who is an Experimental Psychologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Diagnostic imaging at Warren Alpert Medical School, Brown University, USA. Along with team at the Brown Radiology Human Factors Lab, he conducted a fascinating study that reveals how radiologists have a tendency to follow AI prompts, even when they are incorrect. We discuss the implications of this for patient care as clinical AI adoption increases, and what can be done to mitigate this phenomenon. This month we catch up to discuss how Uzi is dealing with the strikes in the UK, the joys of the consultant appraisal process and overcoming setbacks after the unforeseen technical issues that affected the RadCast Roentgen Prize last month.
In this episode we speak to Dr Benjamin Hunter, a Clinical Oncologist and PhD student at Imperial College London. He is part of a research team at the Marsden who recently made headline news for their work on using radiomics and AI to detect lung cancer. We discuss the research behind the headlines and the implications of research being picked up by the media, both positive and negative.

In this episode we speak to Dr Jim Zhong who is an Academic Interventional Radiology Trainee in Leeds, currently completing a Cancer Research UK funded PhD in Prostate Cancer reirradiation techniques. He gives us an overview about the rapidly evolving field of Interventional Oncology and its potential to revolutionize cancer therapy. We also discuss his life as an academic interventional radiology trainee and the importance of conducting more high level research in IO to generate evidence to justify its use in the face of competition from other more established cancer treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

In 2018 Dr Chepelev was lead author on the RSNA Special Interest Group paper outlining the clinical applications of medical 3D printing. In this episode we speak to Dr Sam Dumonteil and Dr Amy Davis, two of the co-founders of Hexarad, a teleradiology company set up by a group of radiologists who met as registrars on the St George's training scheme. They tell us about the proprietary tech systems that give them a competitive advantage and how they have become the most peer referred teleradiology company through really prioritising the health and well-being of their reporters, even sending everyone a monthly box of healthy snacks! This month we kick off our fellowship review series with Dr Flavius Parvulescu, first year IR consultant at Royal Liverpool Hospital, who spent a year as an IR Clinical Fellow at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto from 2019-2020. We discuss his rationale for doing the fellowship, the application process (which begins two years in advance!), and his day to day experience within a Canadian IR department. We also discuss important lifestyle considerations such as the relatively modest fellow's salary and how he managed to make this work while bringing his wife and two pre-school aged kids along with him! In this episode of RadCast we sit down for a post-ECR reunion with Philip Ward, a journalist who has been reporting on Radiology for 30 years and who is the current Editor-In-Chief of Aunt Minnie Europe, the largest Radiology community website in the world. He recounts some of the major events he's covered, from the controversies surrounding the award for the Nobel Prize for Clinical MRI in 2003 to the humanitarian efforts of Radiologists during the Kosovo War.
