BONUS POD CAST: What a week! the Kids are all back in town during the week, and because of the sense of gratefulness they all feel to get on the playing pitches, I think this generation will be the better for it.
May is a great time to sign up to Louth and Proud Patreon. On the pod I explain exactly why. With actual real life games, I'll be upping the podcasts to three a week so you'll get more value for your subscription for starters. what do we want more Louth content? when do we want it? now! I'll happily provide along with a few other special guests along the way.
And because I'm in a good mood I've added the Steve Williams Podcast from during the week. It's very informative for Louth supporters about the current set up, coaches within the county and any aspiring goalkeepers out there and also it acts as a taster of what you can get if you sign up below ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ www.patreon.com/louthandproud
Goalkeeping has changed, and at the forefront of that change is Steve Williams, Louth's new goalkeeping coach.
Steve has a wealth of experience, be it 20 years of playing to a successful switch to a coaching career which has seen him with Ireland recently. We touch on that in the pod but I am basically picking his brain on the evolution of GAA goalkeeping.
Steve an honorary Louth man at this stage also lets us know how he came to work with Louth, insights into the current set up and his own, very brief GAA career in Coventry.

We are 20 days away from a Louth game be it, Hurling, Football, Ladies or Camogie and it is very exciting. I have all those sides fixtures while I look over the week that was. Louth seniors back training with pictures of Mickey Harte gave me goosebumps Monday, then the Offaly draw on Tuesday and then why Haggardstown for our home venue?
So loads going on and the kids are back at it this week and I delve into what to expect. I really enjoyed this pod....we are getting damn close!

Due to the strategic review and nothing else to do with Covid still lurking, I went and listed all the players that have played for Louth in the Championship since 2000, no mean task but an enjoyable one for me and ye hopefully.
Few interesting names, one off's, surprise debutants, notable late starters, correlations to club success or is there?
I have it all and break down those men in red down in many different ways. Positions, family relations, clubs they come from and what first name you really need to be a county footballer in Louth.
Enjoy the podcast but before you do....do this quiz below!

Sorry for leaving you hanging all week, but we begin with where we left off last week….which year with Louth did Stefan regret the most.
Thanks for all the positive correspondence during the week and stefan’s legend tour in the GAA Museum looks to have went really well too
This week we talk about how the virtual legends tour actually came about...we delve into the culture of the Louth team of the 90s….1991 in high definition, The Clans years, the O’Connell's fall out and return and I put him on the spot at the end also.
Thanks very much for listening and Stefan again for his time.

Chatting to Stefan White about his career was something I always wanted to do and when it came about, I was absolutely delighted to learn and listen to my favourite Louth footballer ever.
In the first of this two parter, we talk about Stefan’s hero’s, how practice made perfect, O’Connells and his formative football years in ‘Blayney.
You’ll notice Stefan’s Father, Stephen White, features strongly throughout both podcasts and why wouldn’t he? a Louth legend and indeed All-Ireland winner and most importantly a hugely influential figure in shaping Stefan’s career.
Really excited to share this chat with you, I hope you enjoy it and tune in again for next week too.

This was probably the most difficult podcast I’ve ever done and had to get myself up for.
It was a form of therapy and I don’t know whether I feel good after talking about it.
Sometimes it is good to talk but the hurt is still raw and cut is still open to be honest.
I want to forget the key incident of the day because this podcast is not a look back and revisitation of the traumatic event but an investigation to the impact of that day. The 11th of July 2010. Ten years ago.

I caught up with the Dundalk Young Irelands legend Derek Maguire and we chatted about his beloved club, the effect lockdown had on him personally. How I blame him for the rise of Jim Gavin and the dubs 5 in a row side. A classic Fitzer tale, the vital goal he set up to cause my one and only pitch invasion in 2010, his unfinished business with Louth and, I put him on the spot at the end…where he gives me some cracking answers.
Derek’s a great lad I hope you enjoy the craic

What does... Dundalk captain Brian Gartland, Westmeath Legend John Heslin And The one and only Paddy Keenan Have in common?
Well, They are all on the Louth and Proud Podcast this week, thats what!

LOUTH AND PROUD NEEDS YOU I need your help to make Louth and Proud better. Now is your chance to be honest with me. Fill out this survey. https://forms.gle/XmWz6cpHzM64nfnX8 Thanks very much. It will only take as long a quick kick out to do.
You are going to love this, I promise you, it goes deep, it goes off tangents but it thats what happens when you earwig on inner workings of the louth GAA pressbox.
I’ll set the scene for you, I’m joined by John Savage from the Drogheda Independent/Argus and Caoimhin Reilly from the Democrat and except, instead of huddling for shelter in Darver or looking through the perplex of Haggardstown we’re virtually having a chat, discussion and debate which does get heated at times.
We go into the Future of local newspapers and state of the media landscape as a whole and towards the end, we talk the possible teams that will be winners and losers of COVID19.
Hopefully you get an Indication of how hard they work during these weird times, coming up with ideas, missing the actual massive chunk of their jobs, going to watches around the county because after all they/we are Fans with typewriters.
Thanks to the lads for their time.

Louth and Proud has gone full quarantine with a nostalgia packed podcast on Zoom no less! I called up the Butterly’s Nicholas and Padraig along with my brother Podge in Australia to talk about one of the greatest Louth performances from recent memory.
The Louth Kildare 2010 game in Navan.
We had plenty of fun revisiting the game, lost bets, dirty diesel, hair raising tales from right inside Fitzers dressing room at half time on the day and we picked which John Doyle was the better footballer.

This is a very special LouthandProud podcast.
With sport at a standstill and nostalgia dripping from every orifice… I thought, why not break down one of the most infamous, yet iconic moments, in Louth GAA history.
Simply known as The Row.
Who better to aid me with the retrospective look at Louth Laois 1991 than Darren from the The Faa Side.
Together, we breakdown the row in mouth-watering detail, talk about the knock on effects it had on the county for generations. The What if's, the where are they now's and we even rank the top 3 row'ers.
Oh, and there is plenty of Meath bashing too and so much more.
Thanks for listening, stay safe.

This is the story behind the 2019 Joe Ward champions the Newtown Blues.
A remarkable side…
The three in a row winning side
The side that equalled the great Cooley Kickhams team of the 70’s...bridging a 41 year gap.
In the pod there was great insight to how that was achieved and the man that was behind it all, Ronan Smiley Phillips. The blues manager that was Never beaten in a championship match
The lads gave a real essence of the long standing winning tradition that occurs in Newfoundwell.
The youngster Alan Connor striving just to get into the side. The humility of Rob Carr remembering the relegation play off a few years previous and to round it all off you have John Kermode, the big midfielder mocked by the elder Blues men with a plethora of Joe ward medals so you can see why despite having 5 he wants more
23 and counting…
Glory Days indeed…

Something different this week…and for a very good reason.
A fundraiser that sticks a community.
This unique concept struck me so much I couldn’t pass the Stabannon Parnells Sticker book without getting them on and finding out about the idea some more.
We love a good news story on L&P and the waft of nostalgia alone I wanted to share such an innovative idea with the entire county. So I Made my way to Stabannon to meet some of the organising committee.
In a lovely chat the ladies would fill me in and who importantly gets the credit for the first GAA sticker book in the world!
I got to see at first hand the book in action and swapped some stickers with the kids there!
I hope you enjoy the pod as much as I do. Thanks to Stabannon Parnells for having me and the hospitality from the three ladies and their wonderful children.
