KES and Slick are heading back to the time of Atari 2600 and SEGA Outrun. That's right, it's time to talk about Gamera Rebirth, the anime series on Netflix. We're talking characters, monsters, plot, and everything in between. What worked, what didn't work, and overall impressions. Do you like all the swearing? We're also discussing the Minus 1 trailer, the Legacy of Monsters trailer, and the happenings in Godzilla Battle Line. We got outselves quite the update this month with the arrival of Gamera so for the first time in video games, Godzilla and Gamera can fight! To round out the episode we're also talking about new items purchased.
KES and Slick celebrate 4 years of The Podcast From Odo Island by playing a drinking game/power hour to the Godzilla Power Hour aka The Hanna Barbera cartoon. We laughed, we cried, we defended Godzuki from his abusive captures, and we made fun of characters. We also talked about the Apple TV Monsterverse Show, now called Monarch - Legacy of Monsters. We give some hot takes on what we think the show will be and we engage in some water cooler talk about the cast, the monsters, and the lore. It's a real hoot.
Slick has called back KES and Nicki to talk about the first 5 episodes of Ultraman Blazar, the brand new Ultraman Series that is readily available on Youtube right now. Slick hosts a round table to talk our various backgrounds with the material, what we like about the new show, the designs, the effects, the characters, the stories and everything in between. We were trying some new setups for this episode so if there are any audio issues we apologize. Please enjoy the bonus content.
We're back to topics. This week we are discussing the state of the Monsterverse. We talk about impact, toys, lasting appeal, it's competition, social changes, directional changes, characters, the works. Slick traveled to the Second City, Chicago, IL for G-Fest 2023. Slick recounts the sites, the sounds, and the smells of a kaiju convention. What was the vibe, what was there, and what did Slick get autographed by Yumiko Shaku? We also talk about the MST3K riffing of Giant Gila Monster. Have you ever wondered how little effort you had to put into making a monster movie? Well this one's for you. The monster is just a lizard they have crawling around a miniture set and they splice it in with the rest of the movie, which is the worst.
We round out the episode with purchases and maybe, just maybe, we talk about the next episode, which should be a doozy.
After a momentous week in the Godzilla fandom with the trailer for Godzilla Minus One coming out, KES and Slick asked you the listeners for what we should cover on this episode. We asked and you answered, nay, demanded Pulgasari. So we're giving you our Pulgasari episode. We cover the background, the conditions this movie was made in, and the aftermath. We also talk about the actual movie itself and judge it on it's merits.
We're also discussing the haps in the figure world and a spirited conversation about prices in the figure collecting community. Do they reflect the product or are they the result of an empty suit's greed?
KES and Slick are reviewing the debut season of the Skull Island animated series on Netflix. Our pal Kong is back in the 90's with a bowl cut and his trapper keeper ready to save the day from the totally not bodacious Kraken. We get flashbacks, shipwrecks, sacrifices, indifference to deaths, sarcasm, secret parents, mysterious illnesses, large dogs, even larger alligators, even larger birds, an even larger Kong, and an even larger Kraken! You could say it's a BIG BIG show.
We also talk recent purchases and we'll probably do a poll on social media to decide the next episode.
Slick is back on the Island after his big 2 week trip to Japan. He discusses his Godzilla/Ultraman/Kamen Rider Experience there, the Godzilla stores in Tokyo and Osaka, and the how the culture changed since 2015 in relation to Godzilla. But before he left KES and Slick with friend of the pod Space Bones Jackson took in Shin Kamen Rider in theaters and recount their experience. Likes, dislikes, story, characters, and the big payoff at the end. KES was a big fan of the final fight.
We also talk purchases. Slick gifts KES something from Japan and KES tries to bribe his way out of a penance purchase. Does it work? Stick around and find out. KES also remixed and remastered his Mothra theme to end the pod this week.
Thats not a typo, we're running Episode 1 back for episode 100 but this time we're taking a cue from the MCU and we're doing a team up! We have youtube sensations Sir Melee and Shin Robjira returning as well as new guest Nicki AKA Mothra Mystic coming in to share their experiences with the 1998 summer blockbuster. We're talking memories of how we first saw it, the marketing, the soundtrack, our favorite lines, and much more. It was a hoot. Were KES and Slick persuaded by our guests and their own re-examinations to raise their score or were our hosts able to poison more people against this movie?
We're also talking recent purchases as usual but this time it's with 5 people. Slick is off to Japan this week so once he returns we'll be talking about Shin Kamen Rider on episode 101.

KES and Slick are off to never never land because we're discussing Godzilla movie scripts/pitches/ideas that were pretty fleshed out but for BETTER or worse were never made into movies. Slick has a wealth of knowledge about this and KES knows about the Griffin from 94 and thats about it so we made a little game.

You asked for it, you got it. In our very legitimate poll on April 1st, we asked you and overwhelmingly you voted for Gappa. KES and Slick buckled in and with the help of some whiteclaws, watched the entire movie. KES had some hard hitting questions during the movie like "Can you name a single character?" and "is this a movie about stupid people?" We talk overall thoughts, our experience with this movie, and if Gappa could hold their own against another monster that came out around the same time (not the one you're thinking I bet). The boys also discuss the latest Godzilla Battleline happenings and we talk recent purchases and yes, there is a penance purchase.
KES and Slick give you their first real venture into Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. We talk about the 5 part series of Green With Evil, when the Green Rangers Tommy Oliver makes his series debut. The differences in the US and Japan footage, the story, and we're just sort of all over the place on this one because there's just so much going on. A flying VW Beetle, the death and rebirth of the zords, Scorpina, imprisoned Red Ranger, and the red ranger vs green ranger storyline. It was an AEW trios match review. We also talk about the Godzilla vs Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic. We go in depth in this seemingly seamless continuation from the show into the comics. Finally, we talk about recent purchases. Slick has encountered shipping issues that should be resolved for the next episode but he also got a Godzilla 2000 coffee mug. KES got his Godzilla vs Megalon penance purchase along with Playmates Godzilla Ultima. How does it stack up against the Bandai Movie Monster Series? Find out. KES and Slick make some possibly slightly controversial picks on which Godzilla designs are their favorites in this super sized episode. They hugged when there was crossover and rolled up their sleeves and put up their dukes when there wasn't. After the brawling they sat down to reveal which designs they think are great, and which ones are not so great. As a bonus, Slick talks about his recent watching with Ultraman Decker Finale. Was it a fitting conclusion or was it a big ol' dud?
We also go into purchases. KES was very specific about what he was looking for this episode. Was he able to find it or will there be a penance purchase? Slick also comes through with a new deforeal purchase as well as a few other items.
KES and Slick lied to you. We said we were going to review Godzilla on the Game Gear but instead we swerved you, bro, and reviewed Godzilla Domination for the GBA. Released as a portable companion to Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee, Domination is a completely separate game from DAMM. It follows the story of one of six kaiju battling against all odds, and a ferocious final boss, to save the world from total annihilation. Is it a worth companion for arguably the best Godzilla game ever made, or is it another portable swing and miss? Tune in to find out.

KES and Slick left if up to our Twitter subscribers to decide this episode. You chose Matango. You get Matango or Attack of the Mushroom People as it's known in the US. It's the tale of a group of seagoing "friends" on a 3 hour tour, a 3 hour tour, who get shipwrecked and stranded on a strange "uninhabited" island. Things happen an low and behold, Mushroom people show up so the name isn't a metaphor for anything. Was it great? Was it terrible? Was it somewhere in the middle? Did one of us like it because of the mushroom people's esthetic? Find out by listening!

KES and Slick are heading back to Scandinavia to revisit their version of kaiju, trolls! This time, we're watching the late 2022 Netflix hit Troll. We talk likes, dislikes, background (kind of), how does it measure up to other movies, and how the Troll is portrayed. We already covered Troll Hunter and now we're back for round 2, even though these movies aren't connected. Will there be a sequel? Only time will tell.
We also discuss recent purchases, new happenings, and we might be looking at possibly doing some new things to increase upward revenue stream dynamics for the podcast. Stay tuned for more on that.
KES and Slick head back to the movies to check out Toho's Shin Ultraman. This time there were thankfully no rodents running around our feet. KES is very new to Ultraman while Slick has dabbled in it so we have 2 different takes on this. Spoiler Warning: We will be discussing the movie beginning to end in depth so you've been warned. Is there a Shin Godzilla connection? What did we think of the fights and the visuals? Did we love this or was it just okay?

This year we are picking up where we left off last year and we are talking about King Kong Lives, the 10 year separated sequel to the 1976 remake of 1933's King Kong entitled King Kong. In this one, you guessed it, King Kong Lives. He didn't die he was just sleeping. And to the parents who told their kid that, congratulations. They wrote a movie about it. We have Sarah Connor, "Indiana Jones" but Mitch, and Sgt Taggert from Beverly Hills Cops 1 + 2 rounding out the cast. Was this finally the Kong movie we always wanted and already got with Skull Island? Or is this another one of those "well we have the property license..." type of movies? Slick and KES don't so much predict as much as give their own takes on what the next Monsterverse Movie should be. Slick takes a hands off approach, gives observations and direction for where he thinks it should go. KES delivers a 3 act summary with some details laid out and others left to the imagination. Like, for instance, what would a cyborg kaiju that has DNA from multiple kaiju in the monsterverse look like? And what if Ren Serizawa had survived? This isn't so much meant to be what we would want as much as it is if we were tasked with making a movie what direction would we go in?

KES and Slick review what some say is the best movie of the Universal Monsters, Bride of Frankenstein from 1935. This movie was directed by James Whale and is known for it's religious imagery, it's attempt to follow the novel by Mary Shelley, and for introducing one of the most iconic "monsters" in cinema history, the Bride! Do we think Bride of Frankenstein good like drink or do we think it's bad like fire? Listen to find out.

There are no kids, and the adults are all mischievous jerks who get whats coming to them. It's a strange and dark tale of Opal theft, diamond theft, murder, and revenge. What, I'm serious. It's really dark. We get boughts of Malaria, betrayals, scorpion bites that lead to death, brawls, violence, romance, vampirism. This movie basically covers it all.

KES and Slick put the controllers down and pick up the OG handheld console the Gameboy (and Gameboy Color) for another gaming 2 pack episode. We're covering Godzilla/Gojira Kun, which are the US and Japanese versions of the same game. We talk differences, whats good, whats bad, and if we recommend it to someone who's never played a Godzilla game. On the flip side we also briefly talk about Godzilla The Series's attempt to woo us with it's graphical prowess and whether it succeeded or not.

Slick and KES are celebrating the 16 bit Godzilla games this episode. We're talking Super Godzilla and Godzilla Kaijuu Daikessen. We talk what was good, what was bad, and we bring you back to the early/mid 90's gaming space of 2d fighters ruling the roost. We also go into how we felt about the games at first and how, if at all, our opinions changed as we got older. It was a hoot.

In a fortuitous twist of fate, SNES Godzilla games has been pushed back 2 weeks. This episode, KES and Slick are joined by SirMelee and ShinRobjira once again to catch you all up on whats been happening with the mobile game Godzilla Battle Line. KES and ShinRobjira are new players trying it out for the first time while Slick and SirMelee are veteran players among the top in the world. KES and ShinRob give opinions on RNG, leveling up, gameplay, and the experience of people just jumping in now while Slick and SirMelee give their opinions on the newer units entering the game and the direction the game has taken. We all give suggestions on how to improve but overall we're enjoying the experience.
KES and Slick are gonna take you back to the past. To play the Godzilla Games on NES. Godzilla and Godzilla 2 on NES (Nintendo Entertainment System for listeners born this millennium) are two very different games. Godzilla is more or less what you'd expect. Godzilla and Mothra square off against a group of Toho monsters being controlled by the aliens from Planet X and the only way to stop them is by playing some side scrolling shoot em up levels and fight the monsters in 30 second intervals. Godzilla 2 is more or less a strategy game that incorporates some type of slot machine attack mechanics. Were either of these any good? Are either worthy of the title "Monster of Monsters"? And just who did develop Godzilla 2?
We also both managed to find the Playmates Titan Tech Godzilla and Kong figures. Are they contenders for fig of the year? Plus we talk about whats coming down the pipe with future episodes but chances are thats all going to pushed back for a special episode next.
KES and Slick embark on the bold journey of playing a drinking game to Final Wars. Is our best enough to save this movie? And what is up with those suits!? We've done a dive into Final Wars before so this is more just be a fly on the wall and hang out with us watching this movie and trying our best to make up more rules while the Godzilla portion of the movie takes a break to bring you mostly B movie Matrix.
We also don't talk about SDCC news because there barely was any, fig purchases, and what might be on the horizon for future episodes.
KES and Slick are back with a conversation about Godzilla 1985. We originally covered Godzilla Returns but we skipped all 23 flavors of Godzilla 1985 so now we are remedying that. Slick sets the table with a luxurious spread that is the background of this Americanized version. It would be called a variant in the fig community.
We talk about differences between the films, Raymond Burr's return to the franchise as Mr. Martin, what was cut, what stayed, and of course...Dr. Pepper. Finally we put this movie in it's rightful place, reviewed by a couple fans. Forever enshrined in the loving eternity of the internet.

We put up the poll. You voted. Ultraman won so you're getting an Ultraman episode finally. Jurassic Park never stood a chance. KES has never really watched any Ultraman but Slick has dabbled and so the dynamic of the podcast of Slick being the grizzled vet and KES being the fish out of water rookie is in tact. We watched episodes 1, 2 and 8 of the 66 series. Did it rule? Did it stink? Did KES go over Slick's and see his Mezco Ultraman and Red King and get jealous? Find out. But also yes that did happen.

KES says the Celtics are done in Game 6, Slick says there will be a Game 7. One of them was correct. Anyways, this episode we're not going too far into the past. Just a dozen years back to the magical time of 2010. Before the world went ahead and got insane we had the fad of remaking classic films. Judge Dredd, RoboCop, Total Recall, and even Clash of the Titans. In this modern take, we have CGI replacing the stop motion and we have updated, modern fighting scenes. This movie also decided to just go all out with the cast, including reuniting Ralph Fiennes with Liam Neeson from Schindler's List. Was in enough to make it a modern classic or does it just merely peak out of the shadow of it's source material? You be the judge. But also we are the judge in this episode. We also talk fig purchases.

KES and Slick brought in Matt from The Atomic Turtle Podcast to help them talk about Danish kaiju classic Reptilicus. We go deep into the backstory of this Sydney Pink vanity project (according to Netflix). We talk the making of this movie and how they basically filmed 2 versions at the same time (English and Danish), the monster, the cast, the pros and the cons. Plus we got to catch up with our bud and that was nice.
We also talk fig purchases and KES has a fun story about an encounter while on a fig hunt. Tons of fun in this one.
This week KES and Slick are shamed by their bosses for pranking them into thinking there was a UFO. This prank wound up backfiring because, sadly, it wasn't a UFO. It was...THE GIANT CLAW! A flying battleship with the wingspan the side of like 2 or 3 triple wide mobile homes lined up next to each other. Is it a classic? Is it required viewing? Is it any good? KES + Slick drift their way through Season 2 of Pacific Rim: The Black. We talk improvements, favorite scenes/characters, kaijus, villains, plot, the whole shabang. All salsa jokes aside, we're talking about the Ray Bradbury story turned into almost a full length feature film, The Beast From 20000 Fathoms. What is a fathom? Is it like a gil? What's a gil? Anyways, this stop motion masterpiece gets in depth treatment with backstory and discussion about the film itself. From concept to production, personal preferences on how to work, and the overall execution, we talk about it. It's a good time.
We also talk about our recent purchases, the new Mezcos, Super7's, Playmates, and more! It's the greatest night in the history of our sport.
In our nicest episode ever, we mispronounce our way through Pacific Rim Uprising. From it's start/stop production to it's eventual release, reception, and history to the characters that came back and the monsters and jaegers that excited us. Is this light hearted end of the world movie destined for the gold or is it flat on it's back looking at the lights? We'll let you know in this very timely review.

We go into our experiences with them and what these games meant to us when they came out and what they mean to us now. It's a grand old time and one of our funnest episodes.

The not at all sinister World Toy Organization led by Ms Namikawa has awakened Imperial Godzilla and he's on a bit of a hot streak, do they have gold on their mind? And after suffering a loss at the hands of the invading Power Rangers who kicked in the forbidden door, The NECA World Order have to contend with new challengers, first Burning Godzilla must defend the Interkaijunental Championship against Cursed Order member PM Kong. And Shin Godzilla awaits his first challenger for the self appointed "Real" World's Championship. That challenger will be the winner of the Big Game On Sunday Battle Royal!

KES and Slick and Toho leave Godzilla behind to check out what Mothra is doing in the first movie of the Hesei Mothra Trilogy, Rebirth of Mothra. This movie came out the year after Godzilla vs Destoroyah and aimed at a younger audience, thought there is some darker imagery in this movie. We have the Elias sisters and their evil third sibling at the center of this battle for the world as Mothra must go against Desghidorah, a silver 4 legged 3 headed monster hidden in a tomb for 65 million years. Also at the heart of the movie is a very splintered family that might need giant monsters destroying the world to bring them together as a family once more.
We also have some fig purchases and big OIWF happenings in this episode.
KES and Slick journey to the arctic to get some literal and figurative Cold War hot takes but wind up watching the first (US Version) Gamera movie, with double the M's. We go into the background, the director, the suits, the sets, and all that jazz as we discuss this often riffed on classic.

It's our 3rd annual Kong Kristmas and this year we're doing the 1976 remake from Dino Di Laurentis. This movie has it all. Drama, romance, action, suspense, horror, comedy. Beautiful landscapes and sets. A wonderful score from renown composer John Barry. A great cast featuring Jeff Bridges, Charles Grodin, and Jessica Lange. So why isn't this better? Well, we dig into the history of this movie and look into what happened. The big question is did we like this better than Peter Jackson's Kong (it got a double jobber vote, our lowest combined ranking). Find out in this romp of an episode.

Happy (belated) Godzilla Day! The Podcast From Odo Island continues our tradition of celebrating the big guy's birthday in questionable ways. This year we're going against Toho's wishes and watching Luigi Cozzi's Godzilla. It's in Italian, it was made in 1977, and it has weird colors on the screen throughout it's padded duration. It's basically the 1956 US version with some "bonus scenes" and by bonus scenes we mean a shark and Octopus fighting and random WWII atrocities. It's...not the best but we have a fun conversation about it.
We also go into our weekly purchases and OIWF shenanigans as always.
On this episode, KES and Slick enjoy Godzilla and his pals getting into the zone! Zone Fighter is the story of the Zone family morphing into Ultra Man like Power Rangers to fight evil doers of the galaxy. In this 2 part episode, that evil doer is the dastardly King Ghidorah. We'll walk you through this 2 part episode arch in detail and then we'll talk about how much we liked it. Okay that second part is a lie but everything else happened.
Then we'll talk fig purchases of the past 2 weeks as well as all the major happenings in the OIWF.
One Chris watches Rodan but then all of a sudden two Chris's are watching 2 Rodans! WHAT!? Thats right, KES and Slick are checking out the original Rodan from 1956. What worked, what didn't, the music, the suits, the works. We cover it all and then lay down a definitive ranking.

Grab your burberry scarfs and chai mocha latte's because it's our fancy pants episode! Not really. This episode we're watching Howl From Beyond The Fog. The story of a blind girl, Takiri, and a giant blind lake monster/god, Nebula, and the bond they share. We have heroes, Eiji, and villains, capitalist pigs, and some awesome artsy imagery. Also, this move was done with puppets and practical effects and looks amazing. Is this one a main eventer or a lowly job guy? Listen to find out!

Divorced thief not Indiana Jones and his band of odd couple misfits react to Battra, Mothra, and Godzilla doing battle. It's clunky, it's kinda dumb, but it has it's moments. We go in depth on the background of the movie, the alternate monsters, the suits, the characters and more. It's a fun listen.

Godzilla returns to his roots as a lone monster that was the result of nuclear weapons and the moral dilemma they impose. This is more on the divisive side of Godzilla movies with it's reliance on stock footage and trying to appeal more to kids. One of the, if not the, longest fight scenes in any Godzilla movie is the culmination of this movie. Japanese cinema was in a downturn so this was a way to make the franchise appeal to the target movie audience of the time, children. Did it succeed? Did we hate it? Find out when we rank it! King Chris and Mechani Chris review King Kong Escapes on this week's episode. This movie is about a mysterious spy purchasing Element X from the deranged Dr. Who and his shadow organization. They've build a giant mechanized version of Kong, known as Mechani Kong, to mine for Element X. However, the element fries Mechani Kong's circuits so Dr. Who decides to go after the real thing. Does Dr. Who capture Kong and get him to mine Element X causing world wide destruction!? Can Kong conquer his Mechanical self and save the day!? How many wardrobe changes did Madame X need on that mining base? All of this is covered and more!
