He was strapped to a wheel chair at the nurse’s station and when he tried to get up, the nurses would give him antipsychotics to “calm” him. Lisa has the medical records to show how her precious Dad was treated during the last weeks of his short life and how his death was hastened. They even tried to silence her story by arresting her days after her Dad passed on August 13, 2015. Linda Kincaid updates us on the condition of Gisela Riordan who is still being held isolation in violation of California laws prohibiting isolation of the elderly. Gisela Riordan, 84, is wrongfully imprisoned and unlawfully isolated at Villa Fontana, a residential care facility at 5555 Prospect Road in San Jose. 408-255-5555 For over two years, Gisela has been denied her right to visitation and phone calls. Convicted felons are guaranteed the right to visit with friends and family. Those felons are allowed phone calls and mail. But Gisela, who has committed no crime, is denied those basic comforts. Gisela faces each day believing she has been forgotten and abandoned. When I briefly gained access to Gisela in April 2012, she told me she prays every night for God to take her. She was painfully lonely, sobbing and clutching my arm, begging me not to forget her. Gisela made me promise to come see her again. Villa Fontana has prevented my keeping that promise.

Jerri Tillett joins us from Wyoming along with Nikki Spotted Eagle, and Cathy Bryarly, to discuss the malfeasance of the Bureau of Land (mis)Management (BLM) and the deceptive practices used by the agency in favor of invested stakeholders in the BLM. All three women have worked tirelessly to expose the deceptive practices of the BLM in their area. Jerri Tillett and Nikki Spoted Eagle have spent more than twenty years documenting the harm done by the BLM especially to the wild horse herds in Wyoming. This has culminated in the filing in the US District Court in Billings, Montana a case attempting to halt any further eradication of the wild horse herds in that area. Filing as a pro se, her case is docketed as CB-12-87-BLG-RFC/ Billings District. Cathy Bryarly has concluded a three year investigation into the BLM and has documented numerous instances of deceptive practices and lack of accountability within the BLM in her area. At issue here is the lack of accountability by a federal agency. Numerous lawsuits against the BLM highlight the lack of transparency, malfeasance and the continued deceptions used against the public and in the courts to implement unlawful plans by the agency.

Linda Kincaid joins the show to talk of two cases of elder abuse in California, one involving her mother. Bio Linda Kincaid has a Master of Public Health from UC Berkeley. She has been an occupational safety consultant in Silicon Valley since 1990. Linda became an elder advocate after her mother (Carol Hahn) was abducted in 2010, then imprisoned and isolated from loved ones for 15 months. Linda’s mom is now allowed visitors, but an abusive conservator still denies needed medical care. Since 2010, Linda has learned that elder abuse of the type experienced by her mom is alarmingly common. As well as advocating for her mom, Linda is also advocating for a San Jose victim of a very similar situation. The Santa Clara Public Guardian has isolated Gisela (Giselle) Riordan for over two years. As of today, Gisela is not allowed visitors, phone calls, or mail. Linda will discuss the parallels between these two cases. Linda’s mom is the victim of an abusive private conservator. Gisela is a victim of an abusive public guardian. In each case, a residential care facility for the elderly is enforcing unlawful isolation ordered by the abusive conservator. As time allows, Linda will also address probate laws in California that give the Public Guardian unconstitutional power over conservatees and establish a financial conflict of interest.

Last week in Phoenix, I invited attendees from various facets of the franchising community to share the impact IFA has had on their careers. Collectively, I am calling this the Many Voices of IFA and presenting it as this week's episode of Franchise Today. Seasoned industry professionals like Frank Fiume, Nick Friedman, Rocco Fiorentino, and others spoke to the value of the relationships, mentorship, community, and access that IFA facilitates within the industry. Key figures such as Omar Soliman, John Francis, Terry Braun, Dave McDougall, Scott Perry, and Ron Bender emphasized the organization’s role in providing educational resources, protecting the franchise model, and supporting “smart growth,” including the encouragement of veteran participation through the IFA’s Vet Fran program. But all of that came after first spending many years as a very successful multi-unit franchisee, with as many as 15 locations under his ownership in multiple cities. Ralph is a United States Air Force Veteran, a Certified Franchise Executive (CFE) and a Certified Franchise Consultant (CFC). No matter the role, zee or zor, Ralph Yarusso is passionate about helping others succeed in franchising and has always been happy to lend a hand to mentor others. Paul Damico grew up on Long Island, in New York. He holds 3 degrees in culinary and restaurant management including a Doctorate of Business Administration in Restaurant, Food, and Beverage Management from Johnson and Wales University. Paul began the first 14 years of his career working for the Host Marriott organization, working on travel plazas and airport development, before getting into the more traditional side of the restaurant business many years later. He has had a spectacular career leading up to his most recent assignment, but as he will explain, it hasn’t all been roses. But in his present role as President of Fuzzy’s Taco Shop, this 3X Undercover Boss is all fired up fired up and excited to take this emerging brand nationwide.

In fact, this week’s Rising Star also checks the box for amazing women in franchising as well..My guest is Julie Cartwright, a truly inspiring, emerging franchisor, who is making all the right moves to assure sustainable growth through sensible franchising. Julie is the President of an impressive, emerging brand called Pvolve. In 2017 Julie’s partner, Rachel Katzman went searching for solutions to feeling broken from high-intensity workouts, which when mingled with her chronic scoliosis pain, caused her to search for a better way to get the results she wanted in terms of sculpting her body, minus the aches and pains and broken body that comes along with high intensity workouts. So, with that as her motivation, Rachel sought some seed capital to create a new modality that they’ve now dubbed, “functional fitness.” That investor, a successful serial entrepreneur in his own right, also just happens to double as Rachel’s dad.
