I spoke last week about my vacation and this has led me to thoughts that have taken over my days this week of something more for rest next summer. What if I can arrange for a sabbatical away from home? This seems crazy to me to say out loud and to type but it has consumed my thoughts and we are looking to make it a reality. Did you find yourself in the midst of a storm where you are living? Here in Texas we had a "once in 100 years" winter storm. There was more snow than we ever see that came with power outage or rolling black outs, water systems failing, and people unable to leave their homes to get the basic provisions. During these storms, we want Jesus to make it stop and make the storm end. Sometimes though he calms us in the midst of the storm. I pray as you move into this next week, you feel calm in what ever life is happening around you. The week started all bright and shiny  for me.  It was my birthday week and I was excited because I love birthdays. Then events happened that left me feeling angry and sad and not sure what it means to love those around me. I was not sure what it meant to understand that even though someone does not believe the same as me, they are not my enemy. I was not sure as I read posts, watched news channels and talked with others what it meant to be a follower of Jesus who is called to Love the Lord with all my heart and then to love my neighbor as myself. I am struggling a bit with that and I am calling myself and you this next week to love those around us, even when we do not agree.

Today I am looking at who am I that God would want to use me in any way. When you were looking over the hard part of 2020, I asked you last week to name those hard things but not dwell on them. I wanted us to look at those hard thing, those disappointments and trials and look past that darkness to find the lights. Where did you grow? What did you learn? How were you stretched? Where did. you see God? We will take time today to rewrite the narrative and focus on the light in this year. Join me as we journey together towards a life of depending on God in all times.

As we finish 2020, we have all faced hard things this year. Taking a few minutes to name the hards things can help us to be free to explore the good and face new joys and days ahead. I pray you find the courage to name your hard things and begin to look for the lessons and the nuggets of joy mixed in as we process how to move forward and finish this year strong.

If you, like me, need a little encouragement as we start this Monday morning, I pray these words do that for you. I have been awake since 4:00 am spending time with the Lord, going over all of my worries, fears, praises, requests. 4:00 am is always my "wonderful" time, in the dark, to fear the worst. The light of day and the presence of the Lord help me to bring the truth into better focus. This morning, as I was beginning my praying, I felt led to turn on some worship music on shuffle. The first song that came on really spoke to me, Carry Me by Josh Wilson. I need this song on repeat today to remind me that God can carry me through all that is happening.

If you feel burdened and would like prayer, you can connect with me on my Facebook page, The Care Circle.  Lord, help me today to be your calming presence, to be a light in the dark for others. Lord, help me to by your hands and feet to those around me, whether in my close proximity or in my relationships or online connections. You have us in the palm of your hand. Thank you for loving us so. I will walk boldly today, knowing you love me and will carry me through.

Caring, Karen

Hannah Tynes is an amazing young lady that I had the privilege of teaching math and science to during her 8th grade year. She has a heart for serving God. Hannah was just at my house as she was venturing on a trek to gain support for her mission work in Zambia.   Hannah has plans to go to Zambia, Africa with Overland Missions for six months starting this June. Hannah went to Zambia in 2019 and fell in love with the land and the people. You can hear Hannah's love come through as we discuss her time there in Africa. Hannah is working to gather support for her mission time, with donations that will be recurring monthly and one time donations for projects such as a vehicle and a hut in the future. if you are interested in helping support Hannah through monthly or one time giving, you can click here to do that. She is always looking for prayer partners with her mission as well. You can follow Hannah's journey on her Facebook page, Hannah Tynes to Zambia.    Hannah and I discussed books that we have read that have grown us closer to God. Here are the books that we discussed.

When it comes to leaning on the word of God and having a verse that leads our life, we both had words that we cling to. I have clung to Jeremiah 29:11 and Hannah referenced two different verses, Matthew 19:29 and 2 Corinthians 5:17-21.

Hannah, we pray a blessing over your planning for your mission work and for you and your family as you go to serve. Caring, Karen
