There’s nothing like the old days. You remember back to when you started that first “REAL” job and became a professional. All you wanted to do was impress and show your worth. Well, that and to actually get paid.
So think back to the Summer of 1975: Jaws had just hit theaters and started to change the landscape of cinema; Jimmy Hoffa was holding his last few public meetings before his famed disappearance. The US and Russia were prepping for the launch of their first ever joint space mission with Apollo-Soyuz. Disco music was steadily gaining momentum and John Byrne was about to have his first true full time book.
That’s right, John Byrne and Chris Claremont would be putting out the Iron Fist comic shortly, but first, they would finish the run started in Marvel Premiere. And that is what 3rd Degree Byrne is here to cover.
Tim Elliott, Nigel Spink, Kirk Greenfield and Brian Hughes all get together to start a look at John Byrne’s run on Iron Fist as it began in Marvel Premiere 25.
So get you a glass of Carrot Juice, or something else disgustingly healthy and Join 3rd Degree Byrne as they look back at Iron Fist in Marvel Premiere 25!
It’s Fan-Riffic!*
A patented NO-Prize to anyone who can state where that word came from.

The 3rd Degree Byrne crew assembled to discuss a workhorse of the comic book industry. Sal Buscema might have been the little brother of comics legends John Buscema, but he established himself as a prolific artist and storyteller. We gathered to share a few words on the man.
Below is a quote for John Byrne on working with Sal Buscema
“One of the high points of my 50+ years in comics was learning that the Hulk annual we did together was among Sal’s favorite jobs”

There comes a time when you have to face the fact that the minor leaguers behind you think you have lost a step, that they are catching up to you and that for some reason that means they can play at your level.
Beta Flight had a couple make it to the show: Puck and Marina, but that’s it.
Gamma Flight was so raw, not a major leaguer among them.
So what do you do? You get bitter, and you get everyone to attack. And by the time you are finished, someone will truly, finally, ultimately die.
That’s right. . . One will truly die.
3rd Degree Byrne is proud to present their take on Alpha Flight #12. So join Tim Elliott, Kirk Greenfield, Nigel Spink and Brian Hughes as they watch a hero die!

What can be said about Jim Shooter? Writer? Editor? Publisher and even penciller. He had a passion for the comic industry that served him for over 60 years. 3rd Degree Byrne discusses the former editor in chief at Marvel and boy writer. How we became aware of his work and how he helped reshape the industry.
Below is a quote for John Byrne on Shooter
“Shooter came along just when Marvel needed him – but he stayed too long. Having fixed just about everything that was wrong, he could not stop “fixing”. Around the time I left to do Superman, I said that I thought Shooter and Dick Giordano should trade jobs – it was DC that needed fixing then – and do so about every 5 years or so. Shooter had put Marvel into a place where all that was needed was a kindly father figure at the helm – and that was not Shooter!”

What’s happening with Alpha Flight now? Well, you got me in a BOX here. I mean, we kinda have to FLASHBACK to the 1980’s now for this one. I am not trying to be a SMART ALEC in all this, me being the WILD CHILD and all, but. . .
But. . .
Okay, I really don’t know how to work DIAMOND LIL into that without it sounding really forced.

Ten Years. . .
The last week of May was the culmination of Ten Years of podcasting. After years of recording from all over the country, and Japan, we had a get-together. And boy, was it awesome! Tim Elliott and Finula O’Boyle- Elliott flew in from Las Vegas. John Hijatt and Fred West drove in from San Diego. Nigel Spink flew all the way in from Nagasaki Japan! They joined my son, Chris Hughes, and me, Brian Hughes as we celebrated Ten Years of 3rd Degree Byrne! We really missed Kirk Greenfield and David Thompson as they could not make it down here but they were instrumental in making the last ten years possible.
So what did we do? We did a comic shop crawl across the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex where we bin dived for comics. We went to the Dallas Fan expo and bin dived for more comics.
And we recorded a short reaction to our get together.
So grab yourself a Pineapple Chelada this fine summer’s day and find a way to keep yourself cool while you listen to 3rdDegree Byrne celebrate Ten Years podcasting about John Byrne

Forty-three years ago, Jim Shooter asked John Byrne to write a Fantastic Four movie for the Twentieth Anniversary of the Quarrelsome Quad. So, what else could John Byrne do but write a movie that wasn’t a movie, an origin that wasn’t an origin.
What we got was so much more in such a tiny package. We got a full length novel in a tiny book. We got a work of art on a tiny canvas: We got a “Terror in a Tiny Town!”

Isn’t he a Prince? If he’s the ruler, wouldn’t he be King?
Yeah, but King Namor doesn’t sound right. I mean, Hercules is the “Prince of Power”, not the King of Power, but you try and tell him there is someone stronger.
Then there is the whole thing about the King going out and fighting with everybody, or he’s just a figure head.

It is a crossover paradox of epic proportions!!!!
That’s right, not only does 3rd Degree Byrne cover a comic book crossover between Daredevil and Ghost Rider, but 3rd Degree Byrne’s episode just so happens to unintentionally crossover with Back to the Bins!
In today’s episode, we are covering Daredevil issue 138 and Ghost Rider issue 20 and it just so happens that Back to the Bins is covering Ghost Rider issue 21 which directly follows our story.
Now, if we handled this is true Marvel Style, Paul Spataro and Tim Elliott would get into a knock down drag out fight as Kirk Greenfield and Ryan Daley realize it is all a mistake and convince the rest of us to team up. However, we are pretty sure that Paul and Ryan recorded this months ago and it is just Marvelous Serendipity that we are all releasing our episodes at the same time.
So enjoy as Tim Elliott, Brian Hughes and Kirk Greenfield cover Daredevil 138 and Ghost Rider 20, then go back to TwoTrueFreaks.com and download the latest episode of Back to the Bins!

Welcome to another episode of 3rd Degree Byrne’s Cocktails and Comics. We are short a few of our hosts but work through it with Brian Hughes and John Hijatt. Kirk Greenfield does join us later in the show.
What do we talk about? Well, aside from a few things John Byrne, we also discuss the following:
Red Beer; Fixing a good Briskett; The great cable purge of 2023; Superboy and the Legion Cover influence on John Byrne or not; Trade Paperbacks and Omnibus talk; Future show possibilities for Third Degree Byrne; Wakanda Forever (AKA Who is Forrest Whitaker and why can’t we remember his name?); Avatar 2 Box office; Kang, Immortus, Rama Tut and why we really need to go back and brush up on him/them; Namor, on the screen and on the page.
So pour a “Tall Cool One” as Robert Plant would say, and enjoy as 3rd Degree Byrne has more Cocktails and Comics.

It is nearly the end. . . but not quite.
The Children of the Atom are back for the penultimate adventure, and 3rd Degree Byrne is going along for the ride as John Byrne comes closer to the end of X-Men Elsewhen.
Tim Elliott is taking all of us along; John Hijatt, Kirk Greenfield and Brian Hughes. David Thompson even joins us for a little bit, but his family dragged him away kicking and screaming (see if you can hear it).
That’s right, 3rd Degree Byrne is covering issues 29 and 30 of John Byrne’s Magnum Opus “X-Men Elsewhen”. All that is left of Byrne’s Free Fan Fiction (found on his website at byrnerobotics.com in the “Fanfic” section, minus the quotes) is two more issues that we will cover sometime real soon.
So grab a can of your favorite brew, or a cup of your finest Tea and join 3rd Degree Byrne for the next to last ride on the X-Men Elsewhen train.
You won’t even need a ticket.

It’s a new episode of C&C! This time it is Coffee and Comics as this show was recorded in the morning.
Anyway, we have a modest crew for this one: Kirk Greenfield, John Hijatt and Brian Hughes here to discuss the latest and greatest thoughts that just occur to them.
What did we talk about? Well, it is a John Byrne podcast, so we did talk some about John Byrne and his work, but we really discussed:
Happenings all around like Jeremy Renner and Damar Hamlin.
Avatar: The Way of Water and how it is performing (No spoilers).
James Gun and his eight year plan with the movies at DC.
Duane Johnson, his Black Adam and his DC mess.
Batgirl, the Flash Movie and the next Superman movie.
Chris Claremont and an X-men novel adaptation.
The Mega Millions Jackpot.
The movies of John McTiernan.
Swipes and/or homages, why fight about it?
So pull up a cool soda or hot coffee and join 3
rdDegree Byrne for some Coffee and Comics!
