Over the past few weeks, we've been learning what the Word says concerning biblical submission in our study of 1 Corinthians 11. Up until now, we have not been told why this hierarchical but equal relationship exists. This week, Pastor Roger details Four Theological Reasons for Subordination- -1- The Respective Representations, -2- The Original Order, -3- The Calculated Creation and -4- The Angelic Audience.
Last week we learned three foundational principals of biblical headship- -1- this is apostolic in structure - meaning, headship's design is from God -2- we need to let God's word speak for itself - specifically speaking here, submission does not mean inequality and -3- submission brings dignity and honor to the one submitting - but can conversely bring shame if not done properly. This week, we continue our study of 1 Corinthians 11 with verses 4 through 6 and discuss three explanatory elements of head coverings- -1- The Context, -2- The Contrast and -3- The Consequence.
Continuing our series on Freedom and Glory from last week, we hear Pastor Roger close us on the final four lessons on freedom and glory- -1- the commanding Principal -2- the comprehensive practice -3- the conclusive purpose and -4- the consecutive pattern.
As we discussed last week, when we as Christians learn to biblically use the freedoms we are given, the foundation must first and foremost be a focus on other people. This is not a focus on others AND self, but rather a focus on others BEFORE self. Last week we heard the first two principals in using freedom for God's glory -the crux and cornerstone- - listen in as we hear the final 5 principals from Pastor Roger.

The instilling the concept of consequences in their children is a goal for many parents' as they raise their families. As adults we understand this idea, it is often the negative outcomes of an action that will keep us from doing it - we see consequences in everything. As we continue our series on -Lessons from the Past- from 1 Corinthian 10, we will now see the punishment Israel incurred because of their actions.
Why do we as humans study the past- To learn from previous mistakes of those who came before us so that we might not take the same missteps of history. This two part series from 1 Corinthians 10 serves the same purpose- to show us the mistakes of God's people, Israel, in the past for the the purpose of warning us, God's people today, the Church. Listen in as Pastor Roger details five Parallel Privileges between Christians and the nation of Israel so that we might not fall in the sins that destroyed them.
Continuing our series on Ministerial Rights, Pastor Roger resumes preaching on -Christian Liberty-, specifically talking about what we as Christians are to do in order to win an audience for Christ. The example we are to follow is that of the athlete - we are to do whatever it takes -of course without sinning-. Listen in as we hear the five qualities of victorious Christian living.
Over the last few chapters in this series, we saw the command to forgo your own Christian liberties -that is any gray area that the bible does not specifically forbid us doing- in order to love your fellow Christian. We will see Paul extend this same principal as he describes his biblical right, that is God-given right, to ministerial pay. Paul is willing to sacrifice a salary from his work in ministry in order to better love the congregants of the Corinthian church. Listen in as we hear Pastor Roger detail five explanations for the vocational minister's pay.
There is an unfortunate tradition in the Christian church, especially in America, that pastors should be paid poorly and even further, that they should be paid just under enough. They often rely on extended family members to assist with basic needs just to make ends meet. Some even have themselves and their families forgo purchasing essential nutrient-rich food or cram a five-person family into a one-bedroom apartment because that is all their pastor's wages allow. It is not that their local church can't afford to pay their pastor well, it is that the congregation chooses not to. --Continuing our study of 1 Corinthians, listen in as we hear Pastor Roger dive into chapter 9, verses 1-7 where Paul shares a viewpoint from his own life as an apostle.
