We are Cory Austen and Jose Alvarez. Jose is a Librarian and Cory is an Innovation Coach at the American School Foundation of Monterrey, Mexico. Since 2017 Jose and Cory decided to explore the podcast medium to share stories of the interesting and amazing things that go on 'Beyond our Bell' at school. We are currently producing our second season, were we want to go outside of our element and connect with whats happening at your school or with your colleagues. Our school Green Team has been the drive behind our Meatless Monday's cafeteria initiative for two years now. The concept is simple, once a week we cut the meat! TECHO seeks to build a fair, integrated poverty-free society, where everyone has the opportunities needed to develop their capacities and fully exercise their rights. The Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt or Sierra Madre is a volcanic belt that covers central and southern Mexico. The highest peaks in Mexico and even some in North America can be found here among central states such as Puebla, Morelos, and Veracruz. A group of ASFM students continues to challenge such elevations. This is their story, told by themselves.
Do you have what it takes to send a capsule at an altitude of 40 kilometers (120,000 feet) above Earth's sea level? Can you retrieve and process the data from the environmental experiments you sent up there? We know a group of students who can, and this is their story.

Min 8.28 / An Oxxo is a Mexican chain of convenience stores, with over 14,000 stores across Latin America
Min 11.28 / "Kiko" (Air Recovery Team) is not one of our students, he is an engineer and one of the mentors of the project. And, yes; he does have an helicopter (A helicopter company actually).
Min 25.4 / The Presa Rompepicos or Rompepicos Dam is a 71 meters structure in the middle of the Huasteca National Park a few kilometers away from our school. This structure was built to filter on high rainy seasons the water from the rio Santa Catarina into the city with a capacity of over 1400 cubic meters per second.
Min 27.2 / The Huastequita campus is the Building that holds our Elementary grades Nursery to 5th, is built on a 50 acre parcel of land located to the west of Garza Garcia, Monterrey, Mexico

The Huasteca Canyon, or “El cañón de la Huasteca”, is an ecological park located in the municipality of Santa Catarina near the city of Monterrey in the state of Nuevo León.
Today, the park is being pulled in all directions by private companies and municipal, state, and federal agencies on a number of different development projects and recreational interests. Future exploitation of the park for residential areas is casting its menacing shadow over these mountains but more importantly, the impact of its visitors is taking an alarming toll.

When we chose to approach the subject of green schools early on, we decided to ask students and staff how they would define a ‘Green School’ and if they believed that we were one. After reviewing those interviews, we noticed that everyone had a personal notion of what a green school was, but no idea where the term came from, or how long had it been in our culture; the name made sense--green--but since when have we been using it?
