On this episode we are talking about the significance of being intentional. I hope you enjoy this episode. Please like, subscribe, and give us a share.
Below are the show notes we used on this episode.
“People are anxious to improve their circumstances but are unwilling to improve themselves; they therefore remain bound”
What is something you’d like to get better at?
John Maxwell’s book 15 invaluable Laws of Growth
The Trap
-The Assumption Trap - Assume you will automatically grow
You have to be intentional and purposeful in your growth
-The Knowledge Trap - Don’t know how to grow
You don’t have to do it one your own. You could read. You could listen to an audio book. You could find a class to take. You can ask to be mentored
-The Timing Trap - It’s not the right time to begin or I don’t have enough time
The Law of Diminishing Intent - “The longer you wait to do something you should do now, the greater the odds that you will never actually do it”
American Politician Frank Clark said, ‘What amazing accomplishments we’d have in the world if everybody had done what they intended to do.”
-The Mistake Trap - I’m afraid of making mistakes
What would you attempt to do if you knew you wouldn’t fail?
-The Perfection trap - I have to find the best way before I start
You can be careless, or you can be careful.
Careless is not planning, talking, or thinking through something at all. Just winging it.
Careful is planning, talking, and thinking through something. If you have an idea of how to start you start. You start slow and as things become apparent you improvise, and move as the path becomes more clear.
-The Inspiration Trap - I don’t feel like doing it
If you're looking for conveniences then you're never going to find it. Also, waiting for inspiration will keep you inconsistent… You work on growth when you want to, when you don’t feel like it you won’t.
You have to be consistent, and over time you will reap the benefits of growth. Sometimes you will find the biggest moments of growth by doing when you don’t feel like it.
-The Comparison Trap - Other are better then I am
Comparison is the thief of joy
-The Expectation Trap - I thought It would be easier then this
It won’t happen overnight. And it’s not by luck. YOu create your own luck.
Preparation (growth) + attitude + opportunity + action (doing something about it) = Luck
There are a few books I have listened to, or read that speak to the benefits of intentional practice.
Grit by Angela Duckworth
Sport Gene by David Epstein
Outlier by Malcome Gladwell
The Art of Learning by John Waitzkin
They all mention an idea called the 10,000 hour rule or the 10 year rule. It has been both praised and criticise
This was an incredibly fun episode with Mr. Ridings. This could easily have been a 3hr episode. Be sure to check out Randy's various pages, and stories. We are looking forward to the next project, and watching the process develop.

On this episodes we'd like to talk about a specific topic. The average podcast doesn't make it past 7 episodes. There are several reasons for this. One major one is consistency. It's hard and in some ways against our nature. We wanted to share some thought on how to become more consistent.
A book that we reference is from John Maxwell call 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth.

This was our first time having two guest on the show, and it couldn't have been a better couple. This show in particular was fun because Robbie & Erica is related to Drew... so there might be a few Easter egg stories of Drew as a toddler. We had a BLAST with Robbie and Erica. I know your going to like this episode. Please be sure to share, and let others know.

We are very excited about this show with Cherie. We were fortunate to get her during a break. Cherie was in an accident in early June that left her a quadriplegic. She retells her story the night of the accident, and what life is like now. She is an incredible inspiration, and we loved every minute of this episode. If you would like to support Cherie you can follower her on her Facebook page and donations can be made to Woody Family, LLC

Very excited about this episode. We have gone outside of the Carthage bubble to Barton County; specifically Lamar. We have Evan Clements on the show. He is the Children's Minister at First Christian Church in Lamar. He is the jack of all trades and the master of ... most. I really enjoyed this episode with Evan and learning about all of his fun hobbies.

We had to go back to our recording roots, and use Zoom for this show. It might change the quality of our audio, but it certainly does not effect the quality of our show. We had a fantastic time with Dr. Wendt. Who is the counseling 'jack of all trades'. He manages Mt. Hope Christian Counseling center, meets with clients, and teaches at two different colleges. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did.
