The Right Shoe is a podcast that talks about all things strange and unusual especially in reference to a death and delves into the psychology behind it. The Host, DebbieQ, defines the crime and then goes into specifics, asking investigators from a homicide department as well as people involved with the history of the crime and/or the victims to blend together to figure out the whose and why’s of what happened.
Carmen Berrocal was 18 years old when she was brutally murdered in the Overbrook section of Philadelphia; She had been fighting with her boyfriend the night before when she suddenly ran out of the house; her boyfriend said he tried to look for her but he couldn't find her - she was found face down in Cobbs Creek the next morning by investigators - what happened - was her boyfriend lying? Who would sodomize and strangle a young women who was in the prime of her life?
Also discussed is the disappearance of Jesslyn Rich, a Frontera prison guard who left a country western bar one night and was never seen again.

Charles Manson and his "Family" needs little introduction - on the night of Aug 9, 1969 manson famiy members would basically bring down the 1960's motto of peace and love with their vicious killing of Sharon Tate, Jay Sebring, Steve Parent and Sharon's friends in the house of Terry Melcher of 10050 Cielo Drive making it infamous for something No One would want their house famous for - the murders were so vicious that it would send shock waves through Los Angeles and remain shocking up until this day 2023 almost 55 years later
The next night supermarket mogul Leno LaBianca and his wife Rosemary would be killed in much the same way, this night, a young girl by the name of Leslie Van Houten would be a part of this nightmarish decent into murder hell - except out of all of thee members (Charles Manson included) all of them would be sentenced to death - except for Van Houten who would ultimately receive 7 to life but would not be paroled until 2023 - I do an overview of the manson family and Van Houten - the Right Shoe may expand on this at a later date
Blair Adams is a Canadian man who was found murdered in Knoxville TN July 11, 1996 - the peculiar part of his case are the events leading up to his death - he was convinced that someone or something was after him - he was found with his pants having been pulled off , signs of sexual assault , and forty thousand dollars in Canadian, German and US monies - he had been running for months from an unforeseen entity and that's only the beginning of this weird and tragic case. Listen in as I go over some of the more peculiar details - also Harmony Montgomery is talked about at the end of this episode - a five year old killed by her father.
The last time anyone spoke to Alyssa Taylor of Accomac VA was her mother on Sept 13, 2022 - they had texted each other - was the last time anyone had gotten in touch with her - She told her mother she was going on a long ride with her friend Danny McNeil in his tractor trailer; but when Danny McNeil gets into an accident which kills him the police say the only occupants of the truck were Danny and his dog - so what happened to Alyssa? Her family went to North Carolina where the crash happened and found personal items belonging to Alyssa - but she has yet to be found and her family needs closure
two main cases tonight - The murder of twins Julie and Jill Hansen, someone on the night of December 19, 1987 set fire to the Hansen House, ultimately killing both Julie and Jill Hansen. Could it have been their half brother Donny as prosecutors claim?
Next is Doreen and Stephen Marfeo of Rhode Island, In 1990, Doreen disappears and law enforcement's eyes are on her husband, Stephen. Were they correct? Doreen remains missing to this day.
Three tales of missing and murdered persons including; the case of Jackie McAllister, age 59 killed in an off highway rest stop, her husband barely making it out of there himself, who killed Jackie McAllister?

Dana Satterfield was a 27 year old hairdresser working in Roebuck South Carolina on a hot steamy July night in 1995 when a woman selling cleaning products meets her acquaintance then goes on to three more houses to sell her product; when she comes back to the salon to catch a ride home she waves to Dana, then 20 mins later while standing there she hears a bunch of banging noises and sees a man jumping out of the window of the hair salon! Cops would investigate and find Dana dead, tied to a hot water heater, What happened to Dana Satterfield and who did this to her?
Betsy Aardsma was a woman of the 60's; young; free spirited; coming into her own; at 22 years old she was going to Penn State for an English degree, having decided to derail her original plans to go into the Peace Corps as her boyfriend said he would not wait for her.
One day after Thanksgiving holiday Betsy went with her roommate Sharon Brandt would go to the Pattee Library to finish assignments that were looming ahead, she was in the darkened section known as "the stacks" when someone stabbed Betsy one time and ran. Few people saw this person, and to this day there is conflicting information as to what possibly happened that day in the stacks...November 28, 1969
What started out as a trip, saved for by two dutch women, Lisanne Froon and Kris Kremers, as a holiday for them to celebrate Lisanne's graduation from school, quickly turned into a nightmare as they entered a trail in Boquete, Panama called Il Pianista which was a six hour hike to the summet and back at best, but they never came back out, and their belongings and bones would be found in vastly different places leaving the world to query endlessly, What happened to them???
this fourth season , first episode concentrates on the now Infamous Idaho Murders; The Boy in the Box, much unknown Girl in the Box, Jonelle Matthews and though I did not do the Idaho Murders when it first came out during November of 2022 I am jumping on the bandwagon now as I can't believe what is going on with this case and Bryan Koeberger; I will update again as needed because I have a feeling there will be a lot of twists and turns in this case,
Tina Jefferson had just moved from Oklahoma to the Washington DC area when she was found murdered after witnesses saw her talking to a mysterious man in a Giant Supermarket;
Six months later in December of 1988 a surveyor .was deep in the woods of Virginia when he found a female, with a gunshot wound to the head. Upon setting up a parameter, they found a male close by, gunshot wound to the head - they saw the similarities to these murders but also the, differences within these two separate murders
Tina was African American, while the two individuals, Rachael Raver and Warren Fulton were Caucasian, Tina appeared to know her attacker, Rachael and Warren did not,
the similarities were remarkable , however, all victims with one gunshot wound to the head, both females had been sexually assaulted, and there was a very strange coincidence of both females wearing red shoes;
these two murders and how they were eventually solved are not to be believed.

Onto Amy Billig, Amy was a flower child in 1974 when she went missing - and this story is as much about Sue, her mother, as it is Amy, because Sue was just about the most fierce warrior mother as there could be - she went to bat for her daughter - riding on the back of motorcycles, staying in seedy motels, risking her life, anything if it meant finding her daughter Amy.
Sue would pass away, never having found her daughter, I picture them now, together, in the afterlife, but this still leaves behind the question - What happened to Amy Billig March 5, 1974?
This is the story of Johnny Gosch - the newspaper boy who disappeared Sept 5, 1982 with a huge shoutout to his mother Noreen for all she has done for missing and exploited children everywhere

Sneha Ann Philip is the 2751 victim of 9/11/2001 - the day America was attacked...or was she - Sneha lived in NYC with her husband Ron Lieberman lived in Battery Park - 4 blocks from the twin towers - until Sept 10 2001- that is the day Sneha truly went missing - but the next day when her husband Ron would go to work = frantically wondering where his wife was as she never came home the nigh of Sept 10th - he would go to work and see the twin towers being attacked by two commercial jets - and his world would forever change as telephone lines went down and the world seemed to fall apart- what happened to Sneha Philip?

Lisa Ziegert was a 24 year old school teacher when she went missing out of a card shop April 15m 1992; at 8:15 a customer came into the card store and all was well -but by 9 o'clock someone came into the store and No one was around - what could possibly happen in 45 minutes?

Patti Adkins was a hard working 29 year old from Ohio who had a daughter, Michaley, only 7 at the time. Patti had a boyfriend who worked at the Honda Plant where she worked as a supervisor - they were going to go away to Canada for a week when she disappeared.
Also let it be known that Patti's boyfriend was still married at the time that they were seeing each other AND he borrowed a lot of money from her...to the tune of 90 Thousand dollars.

Francesca Alvarado who they called "Cheka" was a beautiful 22 year old mother of one daughter who worked at a grocery store and was just about to embark on a criminal justice career when she disappeared.
On March 17, 2012 she would drop off her daughter and leave her home in Philadelphia to take a little break in nearby Atlantic City to unwind and have fun with a friend.
But after this peculiar night, no one would ever see Francesca alive again.
Not until some time later in 2013 when a fisherman would find the skeletal remains of her foot inside her right shoe as it floated to where he was fishing in nearby Ocean City NJ
Her sisters, all these years later, are still desperate for the answers that are out there.

Jonelle Matthews was a 12 year old girl living in Colorado with her parents Jim and Gloria and her sister Jennifer when she disappeared.
She preformed at a Christmas concert the night of December 20, 1984 went home, a half an hour later her dad came home to find a heater on, her shoes in front of the couch and her scarf draped over the couch; he knew immediately something was wrong and there would be no answers for 34 years as to what happened to Jonelle on that Christmas night so long ago..The Right Shoe investigates
ATVs and dirt bikes are supposed to be fun - we all rode them when we were little - in the woods - right now amid a distrubing backdrop of violence ATVs and dirt bikes are taking over the streets - disobeying traffic laws and causing accidents, not only for the drivers, but for the passengers on the back of vehicles and other motorists. When you're on an ATV or a dirt bike however especially without a helmet or protection of any kind - the risk of injury is 10 fold. The Girl Scout Murders occurred in 1977 in Mayes County Oklahoma at a campsite called Camp Scott - in the wee hours of June 13, 1977 three little girls were raped and murdered when they were supposed to be out having a fun summer and meeting new friends, climbing trees and collecting badges for the Girl Scouts - what happened was the stuff nightmares are made from.
Lori Farmer, Michele Guse, and Doris Denise Milner each have their own story and the Right Shoe goes from the beginning to the end of a tragedy that should have never have happened, also one that technically remains "Unsolved"

Darlie Routier is a Texas woman convicted of the murder of her 5 year old son Damon, and also has been charged in the death of her 6 year old son Devon, yet never tried for this murder. Darlie stated that on June 6, 1996 an intruder came in and stabbed to death both of her children - the state maintains that Darlie was hurting for money and in a post partum state of depression wanted nothing more than her children gone.
Yet two decades later, many troubling questions remain. What happened that night? Did Darlie get a fair trial?

Victoria Martens was only 10 years old when she was murdered March 23, 2016 = it was her TENTH BIRTHDAY - and her mother Michele confessed to her murder - the case is horrific and only got worse when Michele went into details such as pawning her children (Victoria and her half brother Matthew) off her sex so she could watch with strangers - none of it made sense and horrified a New Mexico community = Will Victoria ever receive justice?

Laurie "Bambi" Bembenek was a young beautiful woman who had just been let go from the Milwaukee Police Dept. in Wisconsin when she was charged with first degree murder. Prosecutors claim that she was a seething new wife of officer Fred Shultz whose ex wife Christine stood in line to get "too much" money from Fred.
As his new wife she was just itching to get rid of Christine to get to Fred's money - but was this the truth?
Laurie stated that she was asleep the night of the murder and the motive was weak. Fred really didn't make all that much to begin with and she was nervous that his kids were so young; she didn't want to be their step mother to begin with - why would she get rid of Christine - leaving her as their "only" mother figure?
Also Fred had a lot more of a motive to have her killed as he spoke many times of his disdain for the amount of child support and alimony she would get.
What did happen the night of May 28, 1981 - and why would she confess to the murder so many years later?
Janett Christman was only 13 years old when she babysat for little Gregory Romack - what Ed and Anne Romack would walk in and find that night would terrify them. Her case to this day remains UNSOLVED.
Her parents Charles and Lulu Christman died never having known what truly happened on that dark stormy night of March 18, 1950.

There's the I-5 killer (Randy Woodfield) then there's the I-5 strangler who is the I-5 Strangler? Stephanie Brown dropped her friends off in July 1986 late one night - they told her to take I-5 North and don't get lost on I-5 South - and she did what happened next was horrific... and investigators had to look for her and others in the summer of 1986 and then in 1987 he picked up - who was he and why were these girls missing to be found dead on long lonely stretches of road?
this is the most painful episode I've ever put out it's the truth it's what happened to me, and I don't know how long it will be up -listen only if you are not triggered by drugs or a really sad episode I will be researching my next case in the meantime to come out as soon as I can
Amy Winehouse was a legend; so young when she started she rose to a level of fame that most people only dream of - except for one thing - Amy never wanted to be as famous as she had became - to quote Tony Bennett she was the definition of a "true jazz star" and jazz stars are infamous for NOT wanting a 1000 people in their face - Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, or Bennett himself, just to name a few - these were quiet, beautiful people who just wanted to share their voice with the world and yet sometimes fame brought to them excesses unwanted - Billie it was heroin, Bennett for a long while it was cocaine, and then there is Amy, whose affinity for purging what she'd eaten "bulimia" and then the excesses of drugs and alcohol were powder kegs for dangerous mixes.
A little of her life mixed in with a small study of her death - her is AMY - as beautiful as she were.

Jeannette DePalma was a girl who at the young age of 16 would be found dead in Springfield Township NJ - in a ritualistic fashion or was it just a drug overdose? Serial Killer or tragic murder mishap? These two engrossing stories will be brought together by the man who wrote both The Acid King, about Ricky Kasso, and The Death on the Devil's Teeth the book about the death of Jeannette Depalma - Jesse Pollack, born and raised in the Garden State, author, director, documentarian, will shed light on both of these stories and also go over what may or may have happened especially to Jeanette DePalma as her death remains unsolved to this day.
Shanda Sharer was 12 years old when she moved to Illinois with her mother and started a new school - it would be here where she would catch the eye of a young woman named Amanda Heavrin and the intense jealous eye of another girl who had been going out with Amanda, her name was Melinda Loveless.
Loveless had a tortured past yet that wouldn't explain the cruel and senseless acts that would go on the night of January 11, 1992 when Loveless, Laurie Tacket, Hope Rippey, and Toni Lawrence would all band together and brutally murder Shanda.

Deborah Lynn Wilson is a beautiful young woman on the threshold of her life, a math major at Drexel University- her and her boyfriend are studying at Randall Hall one night whenrrr Desmond decides he's tired and tells Deborah he wants to go home. He asks a security guard to walk her to her car that night before he leaves.
Little does Desmond know he will never see Deborah again
She is found the next morning in the hallway right by the computer lab where he left her but she is anything but ok.
Deborah Wilson is dead.
What transpires next will turn into one of the most baffling investigations Philadelphia has ever seen, eventually including the world famous VIDOCQ society to help aid in the investigation and find out just what really happened in Randall Hall on the night of November 30, 1984.
First 5 minutes I go over the recent case of Casey Johnston - she was missing since July 10th and was found deceased by Philadelphia/Bucks county Route 1 - her car in weeds her body about a half mile away.
Tonight's case is about 33 year old Jamie Stickle - she moved from Uniontown to Pittsburgh PA to be with her girlfriend - a week after their tumultuous breakup Jamie would go out for a night after locking up the bar she managed and she would get good and loaded - so much so that the one bar she tried to get into refused her entry because they said she was too intoxicated. - she would also get into some sort of an argument before she left.
then her boss saw her about 245 am -outside of that bar trying to get out of a tight spot he guided her out said goodnight and she would drive home.
347 am the fire dept was alerted of a burning vehicle. The fire was so bad the firefighters would not realize there was someone in the drivers seat of that car until they had the fire under control. That person was Jamie Stickle.
What happened? Who killed Jamie Stickle? Or was it a bizarre tragic accident?

First the Ford Focus was found off of route 1/ woodhaven road then they found her body about 1/2 mile away - my heart goes out to the family I will keep this up as I am away but I add an episode update ASAP
John Holmes was born in Ohio 1944, a simple country boy who married a woman named Sharon, setting off for California to live a peaceful happy life.
So how did this mutate into one of the most sordid unsolved murders, John with blood on his hands, after a long slow slide into crack addiction, that Los Angeles CA has ever known?
It started with John getting into pornography and from there, excess and the Hollywood Lifestyle would overtake him to the point of no return. He would become but a shadow of the man he once was and because of his addiction to drugs not only would he start pimping out his young teenage girlfriend, but he would also grow into one of the most legendary undesirables that ran around the streets of LA.
This is the life and downfall of Johnny Wad Holmes and the infamous Wonderland Murders.
Also at the end I do a brief overview of two cases - the Patricia Meehan case out of Montana and the Brayman Hollow Road story - which happened 40 years ago and yet still sends the same chills down the spine as when it first happened.

This is the second episode on the Right Shoe (SMAK podcast) about Heroin - I have intentions of keeping my SMAK page up though right now it would be difficult for me to handle two separate podcasts so I am going to stick with Debbie Q and the Right Shoe for now - like with this episode I discuss a few things - an old unsolved mysteries case - Warren Fulton III , his girlfriend Rachel Ravers and Veronica "Tina" Jefferson and how all of their murders were tied to one person who WAS ultimately caught - I go through the going up part of Heroin but more importantly - if you need help go onto google type in Heroin Addiction treatment for places to go or at the very least and NA or even an AA meeting club. Heroin is a dangerous drug. Started in 1898 by the Bayer Corporation in Germany it was initially created as the new wonder drug to try and combat pain.
What it did was create a litany of addicts; over a 100 years later, society is still trying to take back what it created. A monster; a serial killer in its own right, it ravages households, minds and lives.
Layne Staley from the grunge rock band Alice in Chains said it himself, "What started out as a party turned into a nightmare."
Here the Right Shoe under the guise of SMAK podcast goes over the beginnings of heroin...and how it all started.
This is the first in a four part episode.
Licorice McKechnie was a Scottish Musician - she played with The Incredible String Band - 1968-1972 during this time they were at the infamous Woodstock Festival but unfortunately for several reasons they did not go over well with the crowd.
What happened to this delightful singer? She looked like a pixie the way she danced around and commanded the stage but there are no images of her for many years now.
Also toward the end Heroin is the first episode on the forthcoming SMAK podcast - the first few episodes will be filtered through the Right Shoe - same general episode format but different subject matters as sometimes I feel limited by true crime only.

Gary Michael Heidnik was the epitome of evil. FBI famed profiler John Douglas even claimed that Gary "spooked him" - he was born near Cleveland Oh in 1943 and was the last man killed in Pennsylvania by lethal injection July 6, 1999,.
In between these dates what he did was fodder for movies such as Silence of the Lambs - Buffalo Bill the character was made up of six serial killers and Gary was one of these killers. He put women into a pit, chained them to walls and shocked them with water in bizarre electrical ways to punish them; he would sit back and sneer and chuckle as they "danced" in death.
One woman would turn the tables on him however, a woman Josefina Rivera would trick him, and what she did was horrifically beautiful - she is a true here.
What happened at 3520 N. Marshall street is just about unbelievable....except that it really happened.
Rachell Nickell was a beautiful woman walking through Wimbledon Commons July 15, 1992 with her 2 1/2 year old son, Alex when she was suddenly attacked in broad daylight, leaving her son sitting by her with a piece of paper trying to "stop the blood".
No one saw who did this to Rachel. There was a man named Colin Stag who police thought was behaving suspiciously but other than that, there were no other leads. And as one investigator said, "Getting a description of someone is hard enough from an adult, getting a description from a young traumatized boy who is barely three years old is near impossible.
Lyndon from Murder at Bedtime with Lyndon and Debbie Sue from the Right Shoe pair up again to investigate this baffling and twisted case, and looking at it from afar, go over just how twisted this case became, not only for Rachel and her son and her beloved partner Andre, but for others as well.
When William "Bill" and Catherine "Cass" Stuart get shot in their own house along with their 3 year old daughter, Sandy, who was also shot in the head. This happened in Pine Hill NJ April 1982, back then, Pine Hill was just about the country, who would have done such a thing and why? Everyone was squeaky clean. The investigators could find nothing on the couple that would have made someone shoot them.
And whoever came in and shot them didn't realize that there was a witness. When the "Tall, long stringy haired, white male" came into the house they didn't realize when they looked into the bedroom that there was not one little girl there who came running to protect her parents, there was another 6 year old little girl, named Miriam who stayed behind until the bad man left What happened in Pine Hill NJ that day is nothing short of a nightmare.
Natalie Wood was one of the last of the Hollywood Legend's; a beautiful star whose life played out in the movies; from childhood to adulthood.
Marrying Robert Wagner, divorcing, then Marrying him again, the second time, something happened after they had been together many years that happened on the night of November 29, 1981 and is still being dissected to this day;
On that night Robert Wagner, Natalie, Christopher Walken and the captain of the boat Dennis Davern whose story has changed multiple times were having a volatile night when Natalie went missing. All of her life she was terrified of "the dark waters" and yet she was found in a dinghy the next morning, dead. What happened. Natalie would never get into a dinghy her friends and loved ones claim - so how did she? Or did something more sinister happen that night?
Heather Dawn Church was only 13 years old on the night she was taken from her home. Except in the beginning no one knew that she had been taken. Some thought her a possible runaway, her mother knew that this was impossible. Heather was so level headed. She would never have left home on her own accord. So what happened to her and why? The Heather Dawn Church story is similar to the Jon Benet Ramsey case for many many reasons. Who was Heather Church? Who is Lou Smit? The case of the West Memphis Three is a famous one, done more than a few times in American culture due to the fact that the alleged perpetrators of this crime (the killing of three young boys) were three teenage boys who in the end, were cruelly thrown in jail when the only evidence against them was a coerced confession by one of the alleged killers.
Because of the enormous amount of attention that the victims of a twisted justice protocol received the boys that were murdered sometimes get thrown into the background. The boys who were killed were Steven Branch, Michael Moore, and Christopher Byers. The teenagers who became known as the West Memphis Three (West Memphis, Arkansas) are Damien Echols, Jessie MissKelley and Jason Baldwin.

Toni Sharpless was a young mother who had just straightened her life out. Diagnosed with bipolar, she was on her meds, got her degree in nursing, was working in the infectious disease unit of Lancaster Hospital, and taking care of her daughter.
One the night of August 23, 2009, Toni asked her mother if she could watch her daughter so she could go out with an old friend of hers, Crystal, a night on the town.
Toni's mother and stepfather were a little reluctant because she had broken off this friendship years ago and they were worried about drinking with her medication. But being that she had been so responsible lately and the fact that she hadn't had a break in a very long time, they agreed.
What happened was nothing short of a disaster. Sharpless through a series of events became overly intoxicated was in a situation where she didn't know where she was and when she took off into the night - she took off forever, never to be seen or heard from again. Or had some people seen her?
This is the case of Toni Sharpless.
Leon Moser was one of three men executed in the state of Pennsylvania since 1976; those people include Keith Zettlemoyer and Gary Heidnik; while Keith Zettlemoyer killed his friend Charles and Gary Heidnik became one of the most notorious serial murderers of all time (one of the inspirations of Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs) Leon killed his entire family in a church parking lot on Palm Sunday, March 31, 1985.
Not only did he destroy three lives but the lives of their family and their friends became deeply altered by this tragedy.
KP was a young girl who was friends with Donna and had attended summer camp in Cape May NJ with Joanne and Donna, learning of their murders while watching tv on that Palm Sunday so long ago.
I was able to talk with KP and firsthand she retells just how these events affected her and the rest of the camp, wanting to keep their memory alive so that the actions of their father are not the first thing people think of when they look back at the Moser Family.
Sept 7, 1982 there was a strange sight to be seen in Craig Alaska as a fishing vessel known as the Investor was seemingly sailing across the water, peacefully, only it wasn't. It's engine had been cut off and was not only not "sailing peacefully" but it was on fire, smoke was soon to be seen billowing out of it and as people scrambled to try and help they also realized that there were people on board. All dead. Eight people in total would be counted (though out of 8, 3 would never even be truly identified) making this the biggest massacre in Alaska's history.
Also, it was soon to become one of the most expensive legal battles as not once but twice someone would be tried as its perpetrator.
John Kenneth Peele would be the one that prosecutors would point to as the mastermind behind this tragedy, that a disagreement between him and the skipper of the ship, Mark Coulthurst, was the starting point of this whole ordeal, and to this day, it is still a much of a mystery to what happened to those on board the Investor as it was the day it occurred.

He joins me in breaking down the mystery of three women -Sherrill Levitt, 47 . Suzie Streeter (also Sherrill's daughter) and Suzie's friend, Stacy McCall.
They graduated on the 6th from Kickapoo High School in Springfield MO and the next day they were supposed to meet up with their friends to go to a waterpark. However, when Jenelle Kirby and her boyfriend went over to Sherrill's house to see where they were.
The house (although all of their vehicles were parked right out front) was empty. Their purses, their cigarettes, their dog and their money (Sherrill just got paid and had about 900.00 in her wallet) was all there. One of the most baffling cases of our time, take a look, possibly one day this will be solved.
This case is a tough one. What happens when one makes a conscious decision to commit murder? What happens when a murder occurs a little too close to home?
This episode was a nail biter for me because I was reminded of something I had forgotten about that happened in the spring of 1988 involving the murder of a woman named Margaret Boyle. She was murdered by someone who everyone in the neighborhood knew,
and the murderer made no bones about it. He said he went into the house with every intention of robbing and killing her. Details of the murder are truly chilling.
Except, now, 30 years later, he says that he's changed. Rehabilitated. And it brought back floods of memories of my own dealings with people in my life who didn't always have my best intentions in their heart, and led me into a rabbit hold of murder and redemption.
About how easy it is sometimes to get sucked into some very strange situations.
This one was a difficult one for me, and yet, I had to get it out or it would sit there and fester like a once bleeding wound....this is one for you, the listener to make your own decisions on.
The West Coast Video Murders was a double homcide, never solved. Two young men, both 20, Bryan Benson and Seann Campbell of Warminster PA both worked at this video store in November, 1993. On the night of the 10th, Bryan's father stopped in to see how his son and his friend were doing, everything is fine. He leaves and less than an hour later they were both stabbed repeatedly and while some money was taken, not all. A small earring with a piece of skin was left behind because the scuffle was so violent (both Bryan and Seann were of tall, built statures) But the case was never solved. If anyone has an information ( i realize this case is almost 30 years old) but please call the Warminster Police Department at 215-672-1000.
Next case just happened to months ago. 30 year old, well liked nurse, Ebony Sequita Pack was driving through Lansdale PA when she was stopped in her car (Nissan Sedan) someone pulled next to her and she was shot multiple times. This case happened 2 months ago in November of 2020. There is a 10.000.00 reward currently being offered for any information leading to the arrests in this case. Please call Montgomery County Detectives tip line at 610-278-DOIT (3647). or Lansdale Police at 215-368-1801. They do not believe this was a random act and that she was targeted.
Stephanie Dzikowski was a young woman, 22, about to start a career as a dental assistant, had a 2 year old baby with Gastroschisis prounounced (gas-troh-skee-sis) I apologize for mispronouncing it in the episode; and a fiance, Sean Sadowniczak. Together they lived with her father, Stephen, in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia.
One night, Sean went out for 5-10 minutes to get milk for the baby, came back and Stephanie lay dead, a gunshot to the head, the baby crying.
It would take a year and a half before they found out who killed Stephanie but why?
The story is a tragic, cautionary tale about never being too careful. Crime comes when one least expects it.
The Zodiac killer was our modern day Jack the Ripper. Both maintained a small circle in which they chose to kill, and both only have a very small agreed upon number of victims (JTR has 5 Zodiac has 5 fatalities and 2 seriously injured). The Zodiac himself claimed 37 plus victims; and how he communicated with the investigators and the newspapers of the late 1960s/early 70s was what really set the Zodiac apart from all of the other usual slice and dice killers of his day; the cryptograms; the harassing phone calls and letters.
And worst of all, the Zodiac killer was never caught.

On July 26, 2009, a mother and her 2 children and 3 young nieces were driving home from a weekend of fun and frolics at a campground in Parksville NY. Coming home was to be nothing more than a routine drive back to her home in Long Island, but then the unthinkable happened.
For reasons that might never truly be known Diane got onto the Northbound entrance of the Parkway going in the opposite direction and proceeded to drive for 1.7 miles at a high rate of speed, ultimately crashing into another vehicle, killing all of the occupants in that car as well as everyone in her car, except her son Bryan, who was to be the only survivor.
It is a heavily covered tragedy that has been famously documented in a number of media outlets, most famously in the documentary "There's something wrong with Aunt Diane."
What could have happened to cause such a level headed, smart, caring mother, wife and friend to veer so out of control?
The Right Shoe takes you there and examines that horrific day...bringing forth a number of possibilities to try and untangle the unimaginable, making sense of something that never will...

Tracy Byrd and Mark Himebaugh - two separate children - both walked off and were never seen or heard from again. Both stories are equally chilling.
Tracy bird was 14 and possibly pregnant when she was last seen walking in the rain walking away from a Bucks County PA high school, her mother was found murdered 7 months later. Was the same person who murdered her mom the one who murdered Tracy?
Mark Himebaugh was only 11 when a marsh fire started outside of his house. He went to watch it, asked his mom who had to drop off a neighbor. By the time she returned home, mark was gone.
What happened to these two young kids who were not even starting out yet in their lives? Where did they go? It is doubtful that either ran away yet no evidence (outside of Mark's left shoe) has ever been found.
Keisha Jones was a loving mother of four, living in West Philadelphia, with her husband Tyrone Taylor when tragedy struck. One night, she, Taylor and her cousin, Tamara Stanford decided to go out separately but meet up later after drinks. Her and her Tamara did meet up with Tyrone later on as planned, but what wasn't planned was what happened afterward.
An argument broke out about an incident that happened inside one of the bars, it continued as they were driving in South Philly, when her husband got out of the car, telling Keisha he was going to walk to his parents house from there.
What happened next was a split second situation that planned or not was so spur of the moment, the outcome is something only nightmares are made from.
To this day, Keisha, sits inside a jail cell, probably going over those few seconds over and over again...What happened that night? Listen in as Debbie Q investigates - The tragedy at 2400 Morris Street.
Julie Barnyock was an 18 year old girl with the whole world in front of her. She had just graduated the previous June from high school and was on her way to visit friends when something happened to stop this adventurous young woman in her tracks. But who or what hasn't been known for almost 30 years now.
Julie Barnyock was found murdered in a dank and cold train yard three weeks after she went missing, partially clothed and beaten to death.
Several theory's and a few suspects were brought forth. yet her case has remained cold. Debbie Q investigates and tries to piece together what may have happened to her.

Mayhem started in the 1980s from a guy named Oystein Aarseth whose stage name became Euronymous. It all started so fantastically....what transpired was the MegaGod's of Black Metal would go into dark territory, not only would the face of their band, the lead singer, Dead (Per Ohlin) commit suicide in a brutal way but the guitarist that Euronymous himslelf hired, Varg Vikernes wound up killing him, in a move he claimed was in self defense. Follow me through the tour of the band from inception to explosion, finally ending with the collaboration with a new singer from Hungary named Atilla Csihar who I interview at the end.
Minute 45:00 is when Atilla comes on he talks about his new CBD project, new poppy infused liqueurs (50:00) , frustration with covid music is in his blood (101:00), his favorite bands (1:10:00) heavy US fees for European bands (1;18:00) and so much more. He was a great interview and it really adds a dynamic aspect to the whole Mayhem story.
Byberry... the mere name sends shivers down one's back. A modern day horror story where unspeakable things happened, myriads of movies and TV shows (Asyym, the second season of American Horror Story always comes to mind) have been spawned by this hospital alone.
And how? Why did something that started in 1907 supposedly as the model and at the forefront of the new age of medical facilities for treatment of the mentally "indigent" grow into something that became the ultimate in folklore for all that went wrong with psychiatric world, including unspeakable horrors that grew legendary until it became nothing more than a broken down facility made for fodder of ghost stories and haunted houses.
Also joining is Carolynn Kingyens who tells a beautiful poem "The Northerners" in place of the artistry of a past patient, Anna Jennings, who became one of the most INfamous of patients for all the wrong reasons.
Also at the end, we discuss Byberry and how it affected both of us as Northeast Philadelphia Girls who lived there at the forefront of it all.

Mel Ignatow was accused of killing the beautiful Brenda Schaefer. He was tried and acquitted of this crime, though investigators held fast to their beliefs that he did this terrible thing to Brenda. He could not be retried, however, due to a clause known as double jeopardy in our court system (one cannot be retried a second time for murder after being aquitted) even after other material came forth that made Mr. Ignatow look MORE guilty, including ex-girlfriend, Mary Ann Shore.
Eventually, however, something would come knocking at his door, taking care of all that investigator's such as Jim Wesley and Roy Hazlewood were worried about.
Mel would have his crimes tried in the ULTIMATE court of law and receive a sentence only karma could bring.
*Karma definition - destiny or fate, the sum of a person's actions deciding their fate in future existences.
Since her passing in 1989 of an "unknown event" no one knows quite what happened with Cindy James. One thing that is a "known" - she was tortured mercilessly for over 7 years. In the very beginning the police attempted to help her but they gave up after she failed a few polygraph tests and began to what they perceived as fabricated stories. Was she making things up? Did she have multiple personalities? Was she being gang stalked? Was it her ex husband, her new boyfriend who was an officer of the law. Or was she just straight up masochistic? Cindy was a pretty girl who everyone just wanted to seem to take care of? So what happened? There was a darker side to Cindy but no more so than anyone else in the world.
Cindy was found dead, hog tied, after ingesting and overdose of morphine and a few other muscle type relaxants. The police deemed her death an "elaborate suicide" which means she took enough morphine to kill a horse I80 pills) walked a mile and a half from her car (that held groceries and presents inside from shopping that day) then proceeded to hog tie herself in a morphine induced state? And the details only get weirder from here.
A truly bizarre case. The Cindy James case has been done multiple times as it is such a baffling case, but everyone seems to bring something different to the table. And the right shoe does as well. Because if any case is strange and unusual in reference to a death, nothing is more so than this one. Dig in, investigate with Debbie Q and try to put the pieces of the puzzle together, maybe one year the mystery will finally be revealed and Cindy herself can rest in eternity in Peace! Something she didn't have much of during life. Her parents passed without ever having known what truly happened, and that's one of the biggest shames of all.
Marilyn Monroe is one of the most beloved legends of our time. Yet her death remains a never ending mystery, one that has endured for decades. What happened that strange and elusive night of August 4, 1962?

The Boy in the box is one of Philadelphia's enduring mysteries. Who was the little boy found battered bruised and deceased in a box, in the Fox Chase section of Philadelphia? Who was this child who was found in a box that's outside read "Fragile Handle with Care" but in life did not receive any kind of care? He got much love and affection in death from the investigators and people who spent years trying to find out the identity of the child than he ever did in life.
Follow this tragic tale of this unknown child and listen in on the clues that dropped like the tear drops that must have fallen down his once alive bruised and tattered cheeks.
It is a never ending mystery, one that has stayed with the city since that cold February day in 1957 when he was found in a field, thrown alongside a road when he should have been home sleeping in a nice warm, cared for bed.
The mystery of Barbara Jean Horn is also revealed at the end of this mystery, and although it is no mystery where Barbara Jean came from, it sure is a mystery of who killed her, and left her inside a box in the Northeast section of Philadelphia, July 12, 1988
December 28, 2000 the most horrific mass shooting occurred in the Mill Street Section of West Philadelphia known by locals as "the bottom".
Why it happened is truly unbelievable. What happened in the middle, between getting together who did the crime and who merely confessed to the crime was nothing short of a bloody nightmare, no pun intended.
It caused such an embarrassment to the Philadelphia Police Department I believe that is why this whole case has been pretty much squashed to this day, as there is threadbare evidence of this entire incident anywhere on the internet.

Back in 1981, Joey Coyle was just a longshoreman down on his luck. Until one day, running around in the back of a Chevy Malibu with his two friends, Jed and John, he found in the streets of Philadelphia a large container that held inside 1.2 million dollars. What happened next is a remarkable story of cat and mouse, a story that became as passed down from person to person as any other Urban Legend, except this was for real. It was made into a movie starring John Cusack, Money for Nothing, which, although not quite accurate, was still a movie about one of our boys, so he was a celebrated hero.
But what happened after he found that money? Was it good? Was it bad? And if he had never found it would he still be here to tell the tale?
Listen in as we hear about Joey Coyle and the legendary Purolator container that should have held the answers to all of his hopes and dreams but instead, became the Pandora's box that ultimately led to his demise.
Dolores Della Penna was a young girl from the Tacony who got off the 56 bus one day and was never seen or heard from again. The Philadelphia Police Homicide is still actively investigating this case but up until this time no arrests have been made.
Her parents never got any kind of closure for Dolores because while her arms, legs, and torso were found in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey, her head never was!
It is unbelievable what victims of homicides and their families go through and this case is no different. Follow Debbie Q as she investigates this perplexing and startling case going from Wildwood NJ to the neighborhoods of Philadelphia and to the seedier sections where people have no regard for human life.
This is one of Philly's most notorious mysteries!

Ellen Greenberg was a beautiful 27 year old woman living in the trendy section of Manayunk, a section of Philadelphia PA, about to get married to her fiancé. She was teaching in an elementary school and for all intents and purposes her life was one of comfort and luxury.
So how was it that she was found in her upscale apartment dead, stabbed multiple times, and it was rendered a suicide?
Her parents are furious, wanting this determination to be overturned.
This case is baffling, one of the oddest cases I have ever looked into, as suicide by stabbing, especially multiple times, isn't even noted in literature, it is so rare. (suicide by stabbing once only accounts for less than 2 percent of all studied suicides) a multiple stabbing doesn't even appear rational.

I tie in my friend Cliffs suicide in 1989 with that of two other tragic suicides- Freddie Prinze from Chico and the Man - he died so young and tragically - had he lived he would be even more of an icon that he already is and was, today, yesterday and tomorrow.

Between 1985 - 1990 there was a serial killer in the mist of Philadelphia's Frankford section. Not only was the slasher truly a terrifying figure who was never caught (though a man named Leonard Christopher spent the remainder of his life in jail tried and convicted initially as being the Frankford slasher, where he would ultimately die in jail never having his name exonerated) but here I was Debbie Q right in the thick of things.....and didn't even realize it at the time.

This episode means a lot to me as it involves a friend of mine and incidents surrounding one September night in 1986, in our side street little Philadelphia neighborhood of Morrell Park.
Tina Severns was abducted and murdered by an evil man, claiming to be a police officer.
In todays world, with kids being so savvy, this may sound over the top, but in 1986, we were more innocent and naive, so different than the fast times and immediately gratifying world of today. Things like this weren't supposed to happen! But they did...
