James White, a self-proclaimed presuppositionalist, didn't quite know what to do with this used in this context. We let White define presuppositionalism and respond.

In a perfect example of the IFB caving to the mob as we see in much of cancel culture today, Will responds to Hyles Anderson College President's article and video apologizing for this.
Brian addresses a recent feud between the Berean Holiness organization (a group of former Pentecostal Holiness attendees) and Pastor Brent Markee (a Pentecostal Holiness Pastor). Truth Over Tribe is a podcast seeking to challenge Christians and non-Christians on how you consider truth. Like The Church Split, they don't take themselves too seriously. They want Jesus to shape truth and not media, politics, and triblism. Patrick Miller is a pastor, co-host of the podcast, and co-author of their new book also named Truth Over Tribe. We discuss with Patrick triblism in his church, the American church, and how it is hurting the church, friendships, and families.
To round out spooky season, we have another review. This review of the Netflix TV Series, Dahmer. Dahmer is an interesting person from a Christian perspective as he exemplifies so much evil throughout his life, but also claims to have become a Christian in the last months of his life. Will breaks down the TV show, the real Jeffrey Dahmer, and poses the question if Christians should consider watching this show.
Continuing our movie review theme for the month of October, we have another "spooky" movie that Will has reviewed. The 1986 movie "The Fly" is a remake of an earlier version of the film. Will explores the themes of loosing loved ones, human value of relationships in a society with morality, and even some accidental pro-life themes.
We respond to an episode of The Gospel Truth and Marlon Wilson where Marlon made comments on an episode we aired in April 2022. The point of contention, from Marlon's perspective, was over what we believe is necessary for someone to be saved. We respond to Marlon's logic and comments as well as give our perspective on the requirements for salvation as well as reassert that we are in fact Trinitarians.
There have been several accusations falsely claiming we are not Trinitarians so we figured we might as well do an episode explicitly defending the Trinity while also revealing the bad arguments we have seen Trinitarians using to defend their views. We walk through the bad arguments and well-meaning proof texts we have heard. We then go through much better arguments from scripture for the Trinity while discussing what kind of push back you may receive from non-trinitarians.

This show is an American supernatural horror which examines strong religious themes including the problem of evil, suffering, cult creation, belief, prayer, etc. This spoiler free review should be fun for any that have already watched it or might consider watching.
Matt Chandler, Pastor of The Village Church, recently took a leave of absence due to allegations of inappropriate messages between him and a woman friend. We review the details released and discuss if this was truly inappropriate behavior of a Pastor or an example of legalism in the church.

We have friend of the show and fellow YouTuber and author Nick Quient on to discuss his views on egalitarianism in the church. We look at specific verses from the New Testament and get Nick's perspective on how those affirm or deny traditional views of women and their roles in the church. We also get into Deborah in the OT and how that affects the egalitarian position.
Dr. Jonathan McLatchie is the founder of a very interesting and new apologetics ministry called Talk About Doubts. They have an entire faculty read to engage over phone/zoom/in-person to discuss doubts people have. This can supplement churches and just help those that have no one else to ask. Dr. McLatchie also has a PhD in Biology and does debates with atheists on the evidence for God. We discuss his recent debate with Alex O'Connor (aka Cosmicskeptic), irreducible complexity, non-resistant non-believers, evidentialism, presuppositionalism, and a Q&A session at the end since this was recorded live.
We have talked about this doctrine on a few episodes, but never gave a full breakdown of our full belief and rationale until now. We dive into the doctrine of original sin, coined by Augustine of Hippo. We review scripture and the ramifications of such a doctrine on Jesus and his birth, Mary, babies (especially ones who pass away), desire and the causes of sin, our responsibility for sin and why we have no excuse, and other doctrines that are created or conflict with this presupposition.
Christians and other pro-life groups have fought for years to see Roe v Wade overturned. In this episode the Church Split is joined with Constitutional Attorney Katherine Henry to discuss the recent decision to overturn Roe V Wade, how it relates to the constitution itself, and the political implications of this decision. This was a huge win for the pro-life cause but the fight isn't over.
We have been asked about this topic many times and we felt it was finally time to do a deep dive into what we believe on this topic. We go through numerous Bible references as we examine if a believer can forfeit their faith. We will review common objections from both sides. Even though there is disagreement in the body of believers on this doctrine, the end result for the believer is the same regardless of which side you fall under: Focus on your faith, cling to Jesus, submit to God's Word, produce good works from your faith, and give the gospel to to unbelievers.
With the impending potential overthrow of Roe v. Wade, we go through all the common pro-abortion arguments and give you methods on how to respond. We give overall discussion strategies, statistics, and even the most commonly used Bible verse taken out of context to support abortion. We address the 21 most arguments and then give you the SLED test for easy categorization of pro-choice arguments.

On March 31, 2022 The Church Split was asked to leave the Recovering Fundamentalist Podcast Network marking the end of a 13 month of affiliation. What could have been a cordial exit of friends, mixed messages were given, confusion ensued, accusations levied, and people were hurt. We took time to create this, as we wanted to show our heart and the truth. The Church Split did not nor does not desire to separate from the RFPN and there were tactics employed to make it look as though we did. Our mission has always been to unite the divided body and we feel compelled, being so closely associated with a public separation, that an episode was needed. Let the record show, this should not have been needed.
In our final installment of The Potter's Freedom by Dr. James White Brian joins Will and David. We review the last chapters: 10-14. On March 8, 2022 Julie Roys published an article about John MacArthur and GCC excommunicating/disfellowshipping a woman who had decided to leave her husband. On the surface this sounds like a simple anti-divorce stance by the church, but as the article details the husband is now in jail for aggravated child molestation, corporal injury to a child, and child abuse. We evaluate the situation, the article, and how this can be a learning experience for the church and especially church leaders. How do we properly handle Matthew 18, sin, roles of men/women in marriage, and protecting the most vulnerable among us?

We look at the different views of who the Nephilim were, what were the sins that made the hearts of men focused on evil continually, the different views of the flood, the animals, dietary changes, and the Noahic covenant. Jubilee has a series they call Middle Ground where they have a group of people from opposing sides and ask them questions in an attempt to find middle ground. This is our 2nd response to an episode of theirs. Today's response is to their episode called "Is Abortion Murder?". The group we respond to includes 8 members which includes: 2 rape survivors, 2 that had made decisions to abort, 2 that had decided not to abort (one who is now pro life, one who is not), and even someone who was a product of rape. Christian and non-Christian pro-life views are also espoused. We respond to the good and bad arguments on both sides.

Will joins Braxton Hunter on the Trinity Radio broadcast to discuss an article by Rebekah Drumsta. The article is titled "Christian Apologetics is Not the Solution to Faith Deconstruction". This is an incredibly important topic as it gets at the heart of why Christians do apologetics (Its not to "apologize" and its not to "start fights"). Its especially important to Will as apologetics and the endless source of knowledge found in God and scripture were one of the things that kept Will in the faith as a teen. We see so many people lately "deconstructing" and the idea that apologetics doesn't work to help someone reconstruct or won't prevent deconstruction all the way to apostasy is something The Church Split is deeply passionate about pushing back on.
Dr. Leighton Flowers joins The Church Split for an interview discussing soteriology, among other things. Dr. Flowers is well known in the Provisinist circles (Tradition Southern Baptist soteriology). As a former Calvinist, he brings a unique perspective on this well known debate and where the sides miss each other. Dr. Flowers is a Professor of Theology at Will's school, Trinity Seminary, he's the Director of Evangelism and Apologetics at Texas Baptist, and the host of the well known Podcast, Soteriology 101. Dr. Flowers also authored the book "The Potter's Promise", a response to Dr. White's book "The Potter's Freedom".

After months of us discussing various topics in the YouTube comment section Brandy announced in public that she is no longer Bi and has put her identity in Christ. Thanks to patrons, we flew her up for an interview in-person to discuss her amazing journey!
A friend of the show and fellow podcaster Eric Skwarczynski announced last week that he is no longer a Christian. Eric's podcast, Preacher Boys, seeks to expose sexual abuse in the IFB church. He has been extremely successful championing the moral duty of believers to remove abusers from the church and to care for the abused. Will has been on the Preacher Boys podcast and Eric has been on The Church Split. That's one reason why this news was extremely disheartening. We have covered many Christian influencers who have walked away from the faith and we felt compelled to be consistent in our rhetoric and do another one, even though this one hits closer to home. This episode is directed at our listeners, Preacher Boys listeners, and future listeners of any IFB related podcasts.
As part of the new direction of the channel, Will and Brian set the stage for much of the apologetics and deep doctrine dives they have planned. Where better to set the stage than the beginning, Genesis? We defend what we believe as far as the creation account, go through the entirety of Genesis chapter 1, go over the Kalam Cosmological Argument and how it fits into Genesis 1, arguments against evolution/Gap theory/old earth/atheism. Cody Zorn hosted Nathan Cravatt of the RFP and Mitch Canupp to debate on King James Onlyism. It was such a bad debate (format, questions, and the pro-KVJO side) that we felt it needed a response. This is a response to the debate as a whole and specifically the arguments made by Mitch Canupp on the pro-KVJO side. Nathan did a great job and we didn't replay any of his arguments due to mostly the style of the debate format.

In this episode we examine the rulebooks from Great Plains Baptist College (Bill Reeve's Bible College) and Fairhaven Bible College. We examine these rules pretending to be influenced by the Bible, rules that apply to men and women differently, rules about what age you can marry, interracial dating, hairstyles, mandatory employment, and much much more! In Will's second interview with David Pallmann, they get into philosophy and specifically epistemology, the study of knowledge and truth. They discuss how we can know truth, and by what mechanisms do we determine what is true. They discuss the differences between internalism and externalism. This is an important deep dive that will help as you interact with other Christians with different ideas, but as well with non-Christians. Put your thinking caps on for this and determine your own methods for determining what is true!
David Pallmann describes his time in an IFB college and how he discovered the anti-intellectualism of the IFB, the college leaders, and his professors. He was on fire for God and excited to learn in-depth about the Bible, the nature of truth, and doctrine. Through this desire he became a thorn in the side of the college which resulted in a standoff with the college leadership.
Micah, one of the young men kicked out of Bible Baptist Church in Charlevoix Michigan tells his story of leaving the Fundamentalist cult and sexual abuse he experienced in the church and how his church handled it.
Julius was kicked out of his IFB church, Bible Baptist Church of Charlevoix Michigan. Julius recounts how he came to the church, how he experienced racism leading up to his exit from that church, his eventual exit from the IFB and why he no longer is part the Independent Fundamental Baptist Movement. Julius is a great example of how we can distinguish between the bad actions of man in the Church and the goodness of God himself.
An IFB church in Charlevoix, MI live stream them kicking out 2 young men of the church who had been talking to Pastor Phil Green about King James Onlyism. After the Pastor was unable to convince these 2 men that there was any Biblical basis to KJVO, he makes them resign publicly on the live Church's live stream. The Church Split recorded the live stream (as it was taken offline after we commented on the video). This is a perfect example of the legalism in the IFB and a prime example of what we fight against here: tertiary issues that are elevated to a breaking-fellowship topic. As James says, "these things ought not to be so".

In this very raw episode, we interview Autumn Ward, a former member of an Independent Fundamental Baptist Church (IFB). She recounts her experience with the church, her exodus from the church and turning towards sin, and then her eventual u-turn back towards a Godly life. This episode tackles legalism, abuse, sex addiction, redemption, and grace.
With June being "gay pride" month, we thought it good to respond to this concept as both pride and the topic of homosexuality tends to divide churches. We examine the idea of a month dedicated to an identity, what identity truly represents for Christians, and how a biblical worldview can help inform us when dealing with those that pander or virtue signal to groups of people for a specific month of the year.
We have on Pastor Mike Spencer for a great discussion on pro-life and the role of churches. Mike Spencer is one of the founders of Project Life Voice and does pro-life apologetic speaking engagements for churches, organizations, and other events. This episode has no shortage of truth bombs coming from Pastor Mike; he brings a new perspective to pro-life, Christianity, pastors, and churches.
Kevin Max from DC Talk recently made headlines saying publicly that he's now an "Exvangelical". Will breaks down what Kevin appears to be signaling about his faith and his views on Christianity. This is an early response to help the Christian community be able rationalize his statements and we hope we are proven wrong about our conclusions. Its good to remember to pray for him regardless of his current position on Christianity.
In the continuation of our series on responding to King James Onlyism, Will addresses the differences between the 1611 KJV and the 1769 KJV. KJVO proponents will often say that the 1611 and 1769 are identical except for some minor font changes and typo corrections which don't affect the content at all. Will shows in this episode how reductive that statement is. KJVO advocates are left with the burden of proof not not only how the KJV is perfect, but which specific revision of it is perfect. The KJVO position gives up the entirety of textual criticism which in turn gives up such a powerful proof of the preservation of God's word.
We often talk on this channel about when to divide and when to not divide in the body of believers. Today we examine when to reconcile with those that have caused division and left. We review situations where a member is trying to entice someone back to the church that caused division in the past. We address sexual abusers and if they can repent and if we should allow for reconciliation. Will also shares some very personal stories with regard to this topic.
In this very IFB-centric episode, Will critiques an IFB dating "ministry" website and then addresses a social media post that garnered lots of attention when it called out RFP, The Church Split, and Preacher Boys. We see the same man-made-standards in both the dating website and the post.
A back and forth on Tiktok sparked this deep dive into scripture on what "Tongues" means in the Bible. This is yet another topic Will and Brian have changed their minds on over the years. We decipher between tongues in Acts 2 and tongues in 1 Corinthians. We examine the text to see if it means tongues an in how the Pentecostal Church sees it (speaking an unknown heavenly language we term "gibberish" in the episode), a spiritual gift that no longer exists, or just simply speaking in other known languages. In January 2021 we did a response to Jubilee's Progressive Christians vs. Conservative Christian panel. Pastor Jason known as "Pastor Jason Answers" on YouTube was one of our favorites from this Jubilee video and in this episode we have him on for an interview. We talk about that experience, why Progressive Christians seem to place so much value in non-biblical standards, and how Pastor Jason evangelizes Christianity as a conservative in Los Angeles.

Rhett McLaughlin of "Rhett and Link" and the extremely popular "Good Mythical Morning" YouTube series was a Christian for many years and even worked in ministry, but in 2020 went public that he is no longer a Christian. Now in 2021, Rhett reflects on his decision to leave Christianity and in this reflection goes on the offensive against "White Evangelicals". The Church Split responds to some of his radical claims like "Racism has a very comfortable home in the white evangelical church” and “The church demonstrated that it has a spurious relationship with justice”.
Idol Killer is a YouTube channel run by Warren McGrew with mission of taring down the "sacred cows" of the church. A mutual listener of the Church Split and Idol Killer put us in touch with one another which led to this interview. We get into some topics that have split churches and we talk about their historic and doctrinal foundations including: Original Sin, Total Depravity, Penal Substitution, and the Problem of Evil. Warren shows the depth of research he has done on these subjects. This is definitely an echo-chamber-escaping episode!

In our response video of the Jubilee "Progressive Christians vs. Conservative Christians" we were very impressed with the approach of Angel Wilson, one of the conservative Christians. He kept bringing Bible when asked questions, applied correct Biblical context, and approached each issue with love and compassion. We invite Angel on the channel to talk about that experience and his proclamation from the video that he has tendencies towards same-sex attraction, but holds his identity in Christ and not in his tendencies.

Pastor Bill Reeves of North Platte Baptist Church and Great Plains Baptist College in Nebraska was our number one request to do a rebuttal video on. Pastor Reeves is an IFB pastor and does a podcast/radio show called "The Brook" on YouTube. The topic of the rebuttal is their definitions of Principles, Convictions, Standards, and Preferences. If you aren't paying attention, what they are saying sounds ok. But once you listen to them discussing it while looking back at their original definitions you will see a bait and switch occur. These concepts become the basis for much of the extra-biblical manipulation in the IFB church.

The evidence they found is unbelievable and truly characteristic of someone living a double-life. We address comments made about our first video on this topics, how to address this as Christians, and how to move forward.

He filmed this "prophesy" a few days after the 2020 election and equates Trump being re-elected with the "will of God". We call out this fake prophet as he requests in the video as clearly his predictions were not God's but his own hopes and desires. God and His gospel are too important to be reduced to election predictions.

He discusses what was originally meant to just been a documentary has blossomed into a very popular Podcast where he literally exposes abusers in the church, allows victims to tell their stories, and discusses how to effect meaningful change in the church.
In a slightly different version of the podcast, Will preaches on the Kalam Cosmological Argument. This argument looks into the law of causality, which simply states anything that has a beginning has a cause, and how this law helps prove not only God was the creator but that he is also a personal God that desires a relationship with His creation.
Why is everyone making Amen & A-woman jokes? Well its because Emanuel Cleaver's prayer in congress where he references "Brahma" as being the Monolithic God that "goes by many names". He ends his omnism prayer with "Amen & A-Woman". It has received plenty of scorn but much more so sarcastic humor in response. While we love sarcasm, we believe addressing this new "prayer" with truth and condemnation of its mischaracterization of what "amen" means is necessary to prevent this from becoming the next new trend in progressive churches.

In one of their videos they invite 3 conservative Christians and 3 progressive Christians on to discuss divisive topics including: Abortion, Republican Party, LGBTQ, marriage, BLM, the Bible, and if the other side misrepresents Christianity. We respond to the arguments and claims made on both sides with truth and humor.
We were not intending to do another episode regarding Pastor Nathan Rager, however he went on Liberty Baptist Church's YouTube channel with Pastor Tommy McMurtry and they both spent a considerable amount of the video attacking several people in the church including The Church Split. Since there were so many mischaracterizations, personal character attacks, and name calling, we felt compelled to respond to a portion of this video.
We host Dr. Paul Copan on the channel speaking about his book "Is God a Moral Monster". We examine several arguments people levy against God, the Bible, and especially the Old Testament. Dr. Copan talks about what the Bible really is talking about with regards to Slavery, Woman, Laws, and Genocide. His explanations show how different Israel was from the surrounding nations and that even though some of these english words might be the same as modern concepts, the context was often quite different.
Pastor Nathan R. Rager comes on the channel to respond to our rebuttal of his Podcast "Fundamental Thunder". The interview gets pretty heated once we bring up reason we found his podcast in the first place, his public spat with the Recovering Fundamental Podcast on Twitter. We do get past the discussion about RFP (so bare with us) and do get into substantive subjects like Alcohol, Clothing, and Music. While there isn't a lot of common ground found with Pastor Rager, we hope viewers and listeners can see the arguments for each side of these discussions and also see how to work through strong disagreements and to keep bringing it back to the Bible. We can agree that truth is objective and all truth is God's truth.

We show several instances where that recommendation was completely laughable and Duluth encompasses most worldly things they are saying to avoid. We use sarcasm and humor to address their points, not to mock, but to expose the ridiculousness of these subjective standards to help unify the church.
We became aware of an IFB Pastor named Nathan Rager after he went on Twitter and started attacking the wives of the RFP podcast. After doing a little research, we found that Nathan has his own podcast which perfectly encompasses the problems we have with the legalism inside the Independent Fundamental Baptist Church. We rebut their first podcast episode which goes after clothing, contemporary Christian music, church logos, evangelicals, pulpit materials, dancing, etc. This is part 1 of a 2 part rebuttal of the Fundamental Thunder Podcast.
