Table of Contents About This Episode Welcome to the 100th episode of #KBNRS!

Yes, I know, I can't quite believe it myself, yet here we are 4 years since the first episode celebrating number 100.

We've had some amazing guests (and hopefully some great solo episodes) over the years, and I wanted to share this celebration with a really good guest - which is why I was delighted to be able to bring back a guest from series 2, podcast expert Gary Jones, so we could talk all things podcasting and a whole lot more.

And oh my goodness did we have a great chat!

Naturally we took dive into the world of podcasting and how to make it successful. From starting with just a phone to upgrading to fancy equipment, Gary shares tips on how to create consistent and valuable content.

We also explored what it takes to create a good podcast, a good story, a strong narrative for your listeners, regardless of what sort of podcast you are creating.

To better understand this, Gary discussed the storytelling techniques used in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and how they can be applied to podcasting, including a look at including criticism of Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania's disjointed storyline, while exploring how individual perspective and consistent themes can help ensure quality and success in your podcast. Finally Gary and I discussed approaches to podcast creation, editing, and marketing.

As always, you can listen to this episode via the audio above, or if you prefer to watch us having a chat then there’s the video version of it below.

Patreon-Exclusive Bonus Gary kindly took a little tie out to also record some Patreon-exclusive bonus content, in which he discusses how to build a community around your podcast.

We also swapped tales of our most embarrassing Podcasting moments!

But when it comes to business, his main goal is to help people tell their stories.

Gary's journey started in retail, where he discovered a desire to help people evolve with the products he was selling. He transitioned into marketing and eventually started podcasting, realising the value of sharing stories. Gary now uses his platforms to empower others and teach them how to tell their own stories.

With a successful podcast and radio station, Gary's business continues to grow each month while he stills finds time to enjoy his hobbies.

Listen While You BrowseTable of Contents About This EpisodeAre You Taking Responsibility for Your Life?Do you often find yourself blaming external factors for your situation? Do you believe that everything happens for a reason, or do you think that sometimes things just happen without purpose? In this episode the concept of cause and effect, fault, and responsibility are explored, with the listener encouraged to focus on taking responsibility for their lives. While it may not always be easy, taking ownership of our actions and reactions can have a significant impact on the outcomes we experience. By shifting our focus from the reasons behind our circumstances to the results we want to achieve, we can create a more fulfilling life. It's important to note that what has happened in the past is not necessarily our fault, but what happens next is our responsibility. We always have a choice in how we respond to a situation, and even in the most difficult circumstances, we can choose to react in a way that will help us achieve positive results. So, are you taking responsibility for your life? Are you focusing on the results you want to achieve, or are you dwelling on the reasons why things haven't worked out? Remember, our internal search engine is programmed to find what we're looking for, so let's filter out the negative and focus on positive outcomes like success, happiness, and good health. It's time to be at cause in our lives, rather than being at the effect of everything that happens to us.That's what we explore in this episode. As always, you can listen to this episode via the audio above, or if you prefer to watch us having a chat then there’s the video version of it below.Supporting This PodcastSupport ItIt would be wonderful if you felt able to support this podcast in some way. Listen While You BrowseOther EpisodesTable of ContentsAbout This EpisodeMy guests this week are The Zebecks, one of the most exciting up and coming bands on the Glasgow underground scene.

They have played the likes of King Tut's Wah Wah Hut, Nice 'n' Sleazy, Broadcast and more, and they have supported many acts including Scouting For Girls, The Big Pink, Callum Bowie and more.

Having been honing their craft live and in the studio, and releasing a couple of demo EPs over the past couple of years, they launch their first fully-produced single Breakthrough on all the major streaming platforms today (7th April 2023), which is a definite notable milestone on their solid and inspiring journey.

I first met them when we were both performing for a charity fundraiser back in 2019, and it's been very interesting watching them grow and develop. Which is why I was delighted when we were able to arrange our calendars so that finally we could make this episode happen!

Join me Dan, Max, and Aiden from The Zebecks (sadly technical issues prevented Hayden from joining us this time round - next time!) as we explore where their name came from, what drives them to continue to create and evolve, how they managed to grab a headline spot so early in their career, what it meant personally to the to play King Tut's, what's in store for the future, and we took a look at their new single.

As always, you can listen to this episode via the audio above, or if you prefer to watch us having a chat then there’s the video version of it below.

Breakthrough - New SingleThe Zebecks set out to create a dynamic, upbeat post-punk track that is first and foremost Scottish and portrays their unique, inspired writing style. Whilst recording at Castle of Doom, producer Jamie Holmes stated his excitement that they are bringing back the early 2000s Scottish Indie sound with modern flair. After recording, they created an artistic vision to compliment the music.

They worked with three independent Scottish creators to develop this vision:

Music Video – MET Film School student Leon Miele created a psychedelic fever- dream story set in the Grosvenor Picture Theatre in Glasgow. The storyline follows concepts of internal struggles, finding a voice, and awakening, based on the song’s lyrics.

Artwork – The artwork was created by Wolfalanis. The Zebecks loved her vibrant and constantly evolving styles so met for an afternoon to start a collaboration. She helped them to realise their vision and this proceeded to inspire the photoshoot that followed.

Photography – The Zebecks entered Cove One Studio in the Southside of Glasgow with photographer Angus McLennan, a frequent collaborator with the band. Gus ran with their idea and helped form a visual of the band members which has tied the elements of the single release together.

The single itself, Breakthrough, was released across the major streaming platforms on 7th April 2023, and you can find it on Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Spotify.

If Your Prefer Video...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmc2e0Y5D3AAbout My GuestsFrom meeting on the first day of primary school to headlining King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, The Zebecks have embarked on a dedicated pursuit to establish their name on the Scottish music scene. Dan Thomson (vocals/guitar), Hayden Peace (guitar/vocals), Max Robertson (bass), and Aiden Smith (drums) originate from a small Scottish town called Elgin (where your podcast host also lives). Back in lockdown, they each made the move to Glasgow to pursue a career in music.

After gaining BBC Introducing radio play with demos alone, the band were given their first support slot at Broadcast. By contributing to an advanced sell-out, they were offered their first headline before they’d even stepped on a Glasgow stage.

Intimately depicted in an award-winning documentary from a student filmmaker, their debut headline kickstarted a busy 18 months of 30 shows. This led to the opportunity to headline King Tut’s in September 2022, an impressive achievement at such an early stage in their career. The show declared The Zebecks one of the most exciting new names on the Glasgow underground scene.

Throughout this period, the band developed a more mature, modern sound that transcends genre boundaries. This ranges from energetic post-punk anthems to mesmerising, dramatic ballads that take the audience on a journey of emotions, with vivid, introspective lyrics woven throughout.

Breakthrough, their first fully-produced single, perfectly encapsulates this new era and forefronts the band’s drive to national success. The song was released on all major streaming platforms on the 7th of April.

Listen While You BrowseTable of Contents About This EpisodeIn this episode, we explore the conscious, unconscious and intuition. We discuss the conscious mind, which is our awareness and is responsible for analytical and logical thinking. It can only handle about seven chunks of information at once and is relatively slow.We also discuss the unconscious mind which is the deeper, older part of the mind evolved over time and its primary role is to keep us alive. It is driven by emotion and processes information quickly.Lastly, we discuss intuition and how it relates to the conscious and unconscious minds. It is important to remember that our intuition is not infallible and we should take a deeper look at the information before making a decision..As always, you can listen to this episode via the audio above, or if you prefer to watch us having a chat then there’s the video version of it below.Supporting This PodcastSupport ItIt would be wonderful if you felt able to support this podcast in some way. Listen While You BrowseTable of ContentsAbout This EpisodeMy guests this week have both been on the show before (you can check their other episodes at the end of this page).

So, when I wanted to test out a new way to record these episodes (a way which lets me have more than one guest at once), who better to help me test it than Paul Newton and Jesse Lawrence of the cracking Newton's Nuggets podcast.

After all, with two such seasoned professional guests, what could possibly go wrong...

Throughout the chaos we did have a good old chat about a range of topics including MentalTheft (including the value-packed MentalTheft Day), AntiManipulation, getting Jesse out of the shadows, and a whole lot more.

As always, you can listen to this episode via the audio above, or if you prefer to watch us having a chat then there’s the video version of it below.

Patreon-Exclusive BonusNot content with causing chaos on this episode, Paul and Jesse were more than happy to record a short bonus exclusively for my Patreons, where we go behind the scenes of some of that they have been up to, and explore a little more behind what we discussed here.

If Your Prefer Video...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqoDi6_KQlsAbout My GuestsJesse Lawrence has has a varied career, starting as an engineer and working through sales and marketing, he has very much found his passion in the media and marketing worlds. As the owner of a thriving photography business, a popular business podcast, an author and marketeer, he gets involved with a wide range of industries and keeps himself extremely busy!

Paul Newton has been a magician for most of his life, ever since his parents bought him a Paul Daniels magic set for his birthday. Magic has been his main career for over 10 years, having stepped away from the corporate world to follow his passion. He had many different jobs in the past, including working in theatres as a technician, and working within sales teams around the country. The last “proper” job Paul had was working for Thomas International, where he helped companies to understand their staff better through the use of psychometric assessments. Understanding people and how they tick has helped Paul produce and design shows all around the world. He uses trickery, stagecraft and blatant cheating to entertain and confuse crowds of people. In his book MentalTheft, he explains how his love of magic and mind reading techniques made him realise that people can be duped into giving away their closest secrets. This can include their passwords, PIN numbers and so many other things that could make personal and business security a massive issue. He now travels the world, in person or via the internet, helping people realise that their world could be so much more secure with just a few tweaks.

About This EpisodeThe first episode of series 4, and we take a look at The Salem With Trials. Yeah, why not start on a light note!

It was undoubtedly a very dark time in the USA's history, but it has ramifications and echos even today.

We take a brief look at what happened, seek to understand why, and then apply that to modern life and shine a light on what we can learn from it.

By the way, my apologies that the audio quality is not as good as it normally is for this episode - I am testing out some new ways to create the podcasts in a more efficient manner, and there was a slight technical hitch this time round. Hopefully it doesn't spoil your enjoyment.

There are many more episodes and guests planned for 2023 (we’ve already started recording), but before we dive in to this year’s crop, let’s cast a fond eye back over 2022 and see which were the 10 most popular episodes as decided by the listeners.

If Your Prefer Video... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPuqJKvcZgE About My Guest Rachael lives in Macclesfield, Cheshire with her husband and dog Leo. She left school with no “A” Levels, had no idea what to do she - loved maths so tried accountancy. This didn’t work out, so she went out cold calling selling advertising in Building Control Handbooks. Loved the calling, hated the selling. Found out about Credit Control – Calling people, problem solving and maths – Brilliant!?

Rachael went on to become a Corporate Credit Control Trainer, training herself into redundancy 4 times. After the 4th time, Rachael decided her motivation was helping small businesses get better, not big businesses get richer.

So in 2013 she founded her company helping business owners to get control of their time through reviewing their processes, software and systems.

About This Episode OK, it's perhaps a little bit of a rant this episode, although still one I think will be worth listening to.

I'm discussing my take and insights into that old cliche "Everything happens for a reason".

About This Episode As the World's #1 Fear Strategist, I get asked a lot about phobias.

It is estimated that around 4% of the world’s population has a phobia at any given moment in time. That’s a lot of people. And celebrities are not immune, of course.

Sometimes it is interesting or even reassuring to see who else might be experiencing the same things as us, to reassure us that we are not alone.

So let’s take a look at a few celebrities past and present, and the phobias from which they suffer...

About This Episode NLP.

There's now two ways about it, it's a very powerful thing and used well it has helped countless people to improve their mindset, to overcome their doubts and fears.

It has helped to positively transform so many lives around the world.

Unfortunately, as with all tools, there are those who misuse it for their own nefarious purposes.

One such use of "dark NLP" is what we look at today - a tool loved by many unscrupulous sales people, the "Pit of Despair". Taken from the forthcoming book AntiManipulation, we explore what the Pit of Despair is, and how we can defend ourself against its use.

As always, you can listen to this episode via the audio above, or if you prefer to watch us having a chat then there’s the video version of it below.
