I miss the other Carlos. Apparently so does Wasnatch. He got deported after living almost his entire life in the SLC and, thus, is unable to perform with the band anymore. They mentioned him quite a few times throughout the night, and I jumped up every time. This one's for you Tocallo!
Tony Holiday is one of the best songwriters I know. Although I've never lost an argument with him, I must admit he's got a real way with words. And I have a real personal connection with him. Not only do we get mistaken for each other quite often, he manages to put lyrics together in a way that reaches into my soul and expresses my feelings in a way that I only wish I could.
The music he makes is so timeless that, to the untrained ear, it's nearly impossible to tell which songs are covers and which are originals. In my opinion, that is an important mark of a truly great performance.
Additionally, he's got a good heart. He dedicated this performance (and his earnings for the evening) to Tyke and Ashley, who's house burned down just before Xmas. This is the Blues! Are ya listening?
This was the best new year's eve I could have hoped for. The show was beautiful. My very best friends in the SLC were all there. And I even stayed up late enough to go to the after-party! It was the best kind of after-party. It was the kind where the concert continued until dawn and everybody was invited to jam. I did take my guitar, but a little piece of upholstery got in the way of my playing. I'll make sure to come more prepared the next time I hang with Rick Gerber & Company!
Stonefed is the Schwilliest Band of all time, as evidenced by our new awesome theme song. You shoulda seen me bustin’ my groove when they played it! I didn’t even know it exsisted. He ya go. Let’s get Stonefed!
The Pour Horse is the ultimate Salt Lake City Supergroup. In addition to being their own band, they are also the band behind several other local songwriters. One of them being Luke Benson, who played an opening set. In fact, I’ve known these guys for at least two years and I’ve seen this group of people on stage numerous times (refer to my Luke’s Horse episode from May 5th), but I had never actually seen The Pour Horse. I hope you enjoy my first time as much as I did!
