“Learning How To Live Like Jesus”
- To be a servant like Jesus we should not only look after our own well-being but after the well-being of others.Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” (Lk 23:43)

- The Apostle Paul says that we should have the same humility of heart and posture as Jesus, our Lord

- Jesus gave us the free gift of salvation, His desire now is to mature in the faith and obedience is the path to Christian maturity.
- Setting aside complaining or arguing is a discipline that is only possible when God’s people humble themselves and realize the blessings of grace and salvation.
- A gentle answer turns away wrath. But a harsh word stirs up anger. (Proverbs 15:1)
- For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. (Luke 12:34)
- When we hold fast to the word of life, God will open up opportunities to hold out the words of life, offering them to our families, friends, and our community.

Good Friday 2021 THE CRUCIFIXION
Beyond the events that take place at Golgotha are all the people surrounding Jesus, and what their responses are to the crucifixion.
THE HIGHS AND LOWS IN LIFE God allows (even causes) good and bad seasons of life. We are to live knowing that God is good, and accomplishing things we cannot see or understand.
WE AREN’T SUPPOSED TO KNOW EVERYTHING God doesn’t reveal everything to us immediately. Faith requires us to live in the “unknown” and follow God daily, sometimes one step at a time.
KEEPING OUR EYES ON JESUS The Old Testament points us to Jesus, not just character or moral studies. David fails, and so do we. Our mistakes allow us opportunity to draw near to God.
CAN THE CHURCH BE THE ANSWER? David, on the run from corrupt king Saul, cares for people. Can the church be what our community needs when government has fails us?
The Fall & Rise of a King * Don’t let anything, especially jealousy lead to your demise; * If you find yourself green with envy or red with jealousy, rid yourself of it by loving God and loving your neighbor as yourself.
AVOIDING THE TRAP Culture wants to suck us into their battles and their solutions. God has entirely different ways of solving human problems.
A NEW KING FOR GOD’S PEOPLE God removes Saul, a failed king, and provides hope through David. Through this God points forward to a new King in Jesus who provides hope for the world.
WAITING ON GOD Hard circumstances often test our patience. Do we wait for God to lead us, or do we take matters into our own hands?
A PROPHET’S HEART Samuel pours his heart out to God’s people at the end of his life, hoping they will honor God in the years to come.
GIVE US A KING! Israel demands a king like the other nations, rather than being led by God. What can we learn from Israel about our own hearts?
GOD RETURNS TO HIS PEOPLE After a long silence God returns to His people who are living in disobedience. We have to ask ourselves if we are not guilty of the same thing today.
GOD’S PATIENCE HAS A TIME LIMIT God reveals how our world sinful and corrupt, and our complicity in it so that we can change. God is patient, but at some point that patience comes to an end.

ADVENT JOY Joy is the deeper and more powerful version of happiness. Joy rooted and grounded in Christ is unshakeable joy. It is what we long for in hard times.
ADVENT: LOVE We can feel dark and alone when things are not going “our way”, however God’s love shines the brightest when we see His plans accomplished in us.
SALVATION: GOD’S LOVE FOR THE UNDESERVING God, in spite of our sin, saves us. He forgives idolatry, overlooks failure, untangles our messes, and ultimately provides salvation… if we will just listen to Him and do what He says.Episode Notes
GRACE: FORGIVENESS WE DON’T DESERVE God gives “unmerited favor” (grace) to us when we repent and seek Him. We never deserve it, but God gives it graciously through Christ. Episode Notes
MERCY: SPARED THE JUDGEMENT WE DESERVE Just like the Israelites at the bottom of Mt. Sinai we all sin and deserve wrath. God spares us by pouring that wrath out on Jesus instead. Moses provides insight into how Jesus takes our penalty and gives us mercy.
SABBATH: FINDING REST IN A SINFUL WORLD God provides rest for His People who obey His commands. We often attempt to find rest in many places that have nothing to do with God.
MEDIATOR: BRIDGE BETWEEN GOD AND MAN Moses’s brother Aaron will be ordained as a priest in today’s passage, with the clear function of going between God and Man. This is an amazing glimpse ahead at the roll of Jesus our perfect Mediator.
INCARNATION: UNITING GOD AND HUMANITY The division between God and Man that resulted from sin is overcome in Jesus. God and humanity are united physically in Christ’s body, as well as spiritually at the cross.
LAWS: HOW WE LOVE OTHERS To fully understand the 10 Commandments and laws that clarify them we must look through the lens of love. Christians are called to love God and love others. Laws teach us how to faithfully love both God and others.
COMMANDMENTS: HOW GOD’S PEOPLE LIVE God prescribes how how we are to live by covenanting with Moses (who represents the people). We can be a holy nation, and a kingdom of priests, if we live as God has taught us to live.
PROVISION: GOD PROVIDES FOR HIS PEOPLE Learning to depend upon God to provide for us, rather than depending upon ourselves, our government, or our circumstances, leads us to greater faith.
PROVIDENCE: GOD’S WILL FOR OUR GOOD God does amazing things for His people, though His will is often hidden to us, God’s will is always for His glory and our good.
RESTORATION God provides rest and healing in times of hardship through submission and obedience to Him. We tend to only want to go as far as we are comfortable, but God is calling us further for our own benefit.

OMNIPOTENCE: THE ALL POWERFUL GOD God reveals His power throughout Scripture so that we can take our minds off of our circumstances and limitations, and so that will place our trust in Him.

OMNIPRESENCE: THE INVISIBLE GOD ACTIVE IN OUR MIDST God is present everywhere, always engaged and acting on behalf of the Church. Even if we can’t see or feel it, Jesus promised He is with us. [Matthew 28:20]
TRUE WORSHIP God speaks through Isaiah one last message to all who profess faith in Jesus to repent from false worship and practice true worship. We all need this today.
Main Idea: In the midst of a breaking and broken world, we find strength and hope in the fact that God is still saving people.
LONGING AND LAMENTING IN PRAYER After proclaiming God’s desire for revival, Isaiah desires it deeply. Isaiah is now praying, and his words go from longing for revival, to lamenting how God’s people are not ready. Our prayers today need must become like Isaiah’s prayer.

A KING DRENCHED IN BLOOD Isaiah proclaims the Eternal Kingdom of Jesus, calling us out of exile into a renewed Creation. The cost of bringing this Kingdom, and defeating evil on Earth, is a blood-soaked Jesus.

REVIVAL FOR GOD’S PEOPLE God proclaims incredible blessings for His people, but only after revival takes place in His people. God again calls us to care for others who cannot care for themselves. This is one of the most commonly repeated themes in Isaiah.

A life of faith is a new life entirely. Many people simply add Christianity to whatever prior beliefs and actions they had, thinking that adding a bit of Jesus is what is necessary. God calls us to reorient everything to Him. Nothing remains the same. God becomes King.
Isaiah 54-55: “A Barren Woman, a lonely Wife, and a Poor City"
Isaiah gives three images about salvation: a barren woman given a family, a lonely wife whose marriage is restored, and a poor city made wealthy and secure, all showing the power of God to transform lives completely.
PROPHECY: NEAR AND FAR IN ISAIAH Isaiah proclaims events that will take place in his day, as well as find their complete fulfillment in Jesus. As he proclaims judgment and victory, the people in his day will see both, but they will anticipate a more full conclusion in Christ.
God calls people of faith to live differently than the rest of the world. Christians are to ask ourselves how influenced by the world we are, and how we need to return to God in faith.
PARABLE OF A VINEYARD God uses a parable about a vineyard to teach the people of God about their obedience. Instead of healthy growth, God’s people are often like rotten fruit.
PALM SUNDAY CALLS US TO RETHINK OUR FAITH People wanted Jesus to conquer Rome, instead He died on a cross and the crowd and left Him. Do we trust God in trials and believe His plan is best?
NOT YOUR TREASURE TO BURY: WORSHIP Christians typically worship on their own terms: give what is financially convenient, attend and serve only when nothing else interferes, and keep the gospel message to themselves. Then we wonder why God isn’t more present and powerful. Our worship must be obedient to what God has called us to.
NOT YOUR TREASURE TO BURY: YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO CHRIST The relationship a Christian has to Jesus is a treasure worth more than anything else. That priceless relationship is often buried and hidden. That relationship is defined as living fully connected to Jesus, causing growth in us.
NOT YOUR TREASURE TO BURY: TIME God has given everyone the same amount of hours in their day. As followers of Jesus we see time as something that has a purpose to it. We should make time to glorify God, and to enjoy what He has created
NOT YOUR TREASURE TO BURY: OUR WITNESS TO THE WORLD God’s Elect (those who God has redeemed in Christ) live a world that is not our own. We need to be obedient people who know that the world is watching us. Our obedience to God is our loudest witness to a world in need of Christ.
NOT YOUR TREASURE TO BURY: DISCIPLESHIP Making disciples (teaching others about Jesus), and being a disciple (a student of Jesus), is embedded in the “Great Commission.” The expectation is that every Christian will live that out. The lack of discipleship today is why the church is lacking in so many ways.
NOT YOUR GOSPEL TO BURY - Luke 15 The final words of Jesus in the Gospels and Acts emphasize sending us into the world as messengers to proclaim the gospel (Mark), make disciples (Matthew), baptize (Matthew & Mark), and that the Holy Spirit empowers us for this gospel work (Luke, John, & Acts). The gospel is to be shared, not buried.
NOT YOUR TREASURE TO BURY: TALENTS Every Christian has gifts, abilities, or talents, that are from God. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we are to be a part of one local church body where those “gifts” are used in mutuality to one another, and together for the Kingdom.
NOT YOUR TREASURE TO BURY: COMMUNITY - Acts 2:36-47 Jesus commands us to love one another. We are to bind ourselves together in community in the local church for the “one anothers” in Scripture. It is impossible to be a faithful Christian apart from being in community.

The Bible speaks more about money than any other resource God gives us. Money reveals more about gospel, faith, idolatry, obedience, and heart, than anything else. As challenging as this subject may be, tithing to the church is a gospel discipleship issue.

OFFERING YOUR LIFE
We can practice offering our life by following 5 points. This will be a time of self-reflection where we will be able to look back on our past experiences, present desires, and current opportunities. What might you be able to discern about God’s will for your life?
Our focus as we end his year will determine how we begin the next year. A right place, as followers of Jesus, for us to focus is on our prayer life.
THE MESSAGE OF CHRISTMAS The birth of Christ is about healing for a broken world. When everything around us is wrong, the message of Jesus reminds us that hope and joy are not found in gifts or meals, but in Christ’s eternal peace.
THE ETERNAL PLAN OF REDEMPTION Today we get a rare look at a conversation between God and His Son Jesus before Jesus is born. The focus is on Christ’s purpose of redemption. This passage is a great way see the Christmas Story in a new way.
GOD PREPARES THE WAY God used Isaiah to prepare Israel for their deliverance from Babylon. God used John the Baptist to prepare Israel for Jesus. God uses Scripture to prepare us for Christ to work in us this Christmas.
GOD WILL COME AND SAVE US Today we see God deliver Israel from Babylon, but we find out that it was really about something much larger. God promises a Savior to come, a Deliverer much greater than any other, who comes to rescue us for eternity.
Let us learn from the mistakes of our brother and sisters of old, and seek to glorify God in all we do.
THE SERVANT OF THE LORD Isaiah 42 proclaims Christ hundreds of years in advance, telling of God’s Servant establishing God’s Kingdom, calling people to repent of idolatry and worship God alone. We worship God by learning about Jesus, and living as Jesus lived.

COMFORT GOD’S PEOPLE [700-600-500] Isaiah 40 takes us 200 years forward in time to the end of the Babylonian captivity. God offers comfort to a new generation who is willing to be obedient. Will we be an obedient generation or not?
In moments of personal pain and tempting pleasure it can be easy to doubt God’s goodness and to forget our allegiance to Him. We must remember it is Jesus faithfulness to us and not our faithfulness to him that is the guarantee of our salvation.
THE FINAL BATTLE Christians face many battles against culture, sin, and self, as well as against a spiritual enemy in Satan. Isaiah provides an account of a great battle so we can learn to face challenges with unwavering faith in God.
Isaiah 34-35 The are really only two kinds of people in this world, those whose final outcome will be to incur the eternal judgment of God and those whose final outcome will be to enjoy the eternal peace of salvation with God.

WHAT IS OUR ETERNAL HOPE? When all around us we see corruption and division in our world, Isaiah 33 provides a view of what God does when people and/or nations repent and return to Jesus. Hope, healing, and redemption, are attributes of Christ’s Kingdom beginning here on earth and completed in eternity.
TRUST IN GOD–NOT IN MAN We all struggle to trust in God and not in human ability. God promises faithfulness and blessing to those (individually and nationally) who trust in Him alone.

Every generation is tempted to find ways to rescue ourselves from the impact of sin in the world, attempting save ourselves from pain and death. Only by turning to God in repentance and resting in His grace can we find salvation.
SPIRITUAL HYPOCRISY All who gather today in worship have a common struggle: do our hearts match the words we sing, do we really submit ourselves to the Word of God, or do we just go through the motions? Spiritual hypocrisy is professing one thing but living another.

JESUS IS THE CORNERSTONE OF SALVATION
People throughout history have tried to rescue themselves from death by their own efforts, good works, self-achievement, wealth, power, etc. Salvation is found in Christ alone, and whoever trusts in Jesus will never be shaken.
The Grace of God creates beautiful transformation in his people.

END OF DEATH, BEGINNING OF PEACE
Followers of Jesus are promised that death and judgment are not the final word, but rather are tools of God to rid the world of corruption, sin, and brokenness. Jesus will put an end to human death and usher in an eternity of peace.

A GOSPEL OF JUDGEMENT
The modern gospel is a message of love, grace, and mercy. The only inclusion of judgement is often only related to those outside of Christ. God will use judgement to purge all the sins of human history and restore life.

MISPLACED HOPE
God’s people throughout history struggle with trusting in earthly things more than trusting in God. All of us [especially husbands and fathers] are to watch over ourselves and our families to see where we are truly placing our hope.

REDEMPTION & HEALING
God has provided a way that any person–from any background–can be made whole in Christ. Unfortunately, redemption and healing are often birthed out of humiliation and despair.
EVERY KNEE WILL BOW
The Bible says repeatedly that every person who ever lived will eventually bow their knee before the one true God Jesus Christ. If we believe that to be true, what will we place our confidence in until we meet Him?
Repentance : Isaiah 15:1–16:14
Repentance is the turning from anything opposed to God’s best plan for us and running from it. Repentance ushers grace into our lives and restores our soul. No true Christian faith exists apart from ongoing repentance.
JESUS HAS OVERCOME
When everything in life (economic, political, spiritual, mental, and emotional) all seem like they are corrupt and unable to be fixed, we are comforted by knowing that Jesus has overcome the world.
“A Call to Worship” Isaiah 12
Isaiah pauses to worship God in light of His promises of salvation, just as we are commanded to worship. In reflection to all God accomplished through Christ we need to stop and give God what He is due in worship.
FROM DEATH TO LIFE
Easter celebrates Jesus rising from death. John’s Gospel shares several reactions to the Resurrection, and calls us to identify ourselves in the story by asking what our response is to the living Jesus.
THE WRATH OF GOD TRIUMPHS OVER SIN
Many only view God as loving and gracious. The Bible clearly affirms those attributes, but also shows God’s anger and judgement. The purpose of God’s wrath or judgement is to triumph over sin.
“Isaiah and the Kingdom of Jesus” Isaiah 9:1-7
The promise God proclaimed through Isaiah was the that corruption and oppression of the nations would be brought to an end through Jesus.
“Contrasting Gospel and Religion” Isaiah 6:1-13
CONTRASTING GOSPEL AND RELIGION
Isaiah gives us a clear picture of the gospel and what our response should be. It also contains a warning about the dangers of a cultural religious practice void of true repentance and faith.
The Vineyard of the Lord : Isaiah 5:1-30
God has planted people in this world like a vineyard. The natural outcome should be healthy growth, but sometimes God’s people are like rotten fruit.
God will remove anything that stands between himself and his people, even their own pride and possession.
“Full of Things, Empty of God” - Isaiah 2:1-22
Isaiah calls God’s people back to true worship beginning with the removal of anything that hinders their (or our) faith in God.
“Religious on the Outside” - Isaiah 1:1-23
God is calling His people to learn what it really means to repent and live as true followers of the living God. Anything else is unacceptable.
Jeremiah 29:1-13
God has placed us in Cerritos to seek the welfare of the city by praying and serving our community.
1 Corinthians 12:4-12
We exist as members of a local church to use our talents together as one healthy body. We all suffer when we do not all participate with one another.
Our finances, maybe second only to our time, reveals where our heart really is. A heart for God results in obedience in our finances. “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” [Matthew 6:21]
Time - Ecclesiastes 3:1-17
Humanity is created to glorify God in our time. That means living life prioritizing our time in ways that accomplish all we are created to do.

The grace of God can save anyone, from anywhere, from anything at
any time.
Luke 2:8-20The birth of Jesus as Savior, Christ and Lord makes outsidersbecome insiders.
“Hoping for Jesus: Simeon and Anna” (Luke 2:21-38)
What are you hoping and waiting for this Christmas? Is it for Christ to make Himself more present to you? Anything else is misplaced hope. Any other waiting and longing will inevitably disappoint.
The Church a safe harbor:
As Christ's Church, we are a people that others can run to in times of need and a safe place when the storms of life are overwhelming.
THE VOICE OF THE CHURCH
The Church is a needed voice in culture, but due to our failure to remain distinct we have lost this. To be valued again in society we will need to relearn how to think, speak, and act.
“The Church Must Rise Above” : Acts 22:22–23:35
The Church must rise above the negativity of culture. We are accountable to God for our words, actions, and attitudes.
“The Church is a Place of Repentance” - Acts 21b-22
The Church is people in constant need of change and repentance of sin as we strive to look more and more like Jesus.
Acts 21:1-26 - The Church
The Church is called to obey Jesus faithfully even when the calling is challenging or painful. Trusting Jesus this way allows Him to be glorified through you.

"Because Christ purchased us with His death, we need to understand the calling of the church is greater than our personal desires."
Acts 18:24 - 19:41 - “The Church Transforms a City”
The Church is a community of transformed people, and when transformed people engaged locally they see entire cities changed to glorify God.
“The Church Is For All People” - Acts 18
The Church is Christ’s messenger to the entire world, not just those who are like us. This often takes us beyond where we are comfortable.
The Church is called to engage the culture we live in. We are responsible for how we share Christ with others, but we cannot control the outcome.
“Seeing People Healed” - Matthew 9
We get to participate in Jesus healing people of addictions, relationships, guilt and shame, and physical health. Being a part of transforming someone’s life allows us to share Jesus through the process.
“Serving People” - Mark 6:30–56
Serving people in everyday life opens up opportunities for us to show others the goodness and grace of Jesus in tangible ways.

Jesus saves you into his family, the church. Every believer needs the church. The church needs every believer. And Jesus calls the church to love one another as he has loved through service & sacrifice.

Jesus calls us to live in true community with one another as a response to the gospel. This is what belonging to a community groups is all about.
Generations Worship : Nehemiah 8-9
Gathering together corporately allows us to hear from God, offer our sacrifice, confess and be forgiven, and share God’s goodness through Christ Jesus with one another.
Death to Life: Easter 2018 - Romans 5:12 - 6:14
The Easter message is that Jesus has gone from death to life, and invites us to do the same. In a world so filled with death, we need life.
Good Friday - 2018 - Passover/Communion
God passes over our sin and shame rather than taking judgement on us because of Jesus died on the cross.
“Relationship to the World” : Proverbs 19
Jesus calls us to live in such a way that others see Jesus in us, and want to follow Him as we do.
PROVERBS: A LIFE ROOTED IN GOD’S WIDSOM
If Jesus is Lord of our hearts, then Jesus is Lord of our homes. Proverbs 17, 23, 30
Being a Wise Disciple : Proverbs 13
A disciple’s relationship to wisdom begins in a posture of humility. Jesus calls every one of us to be pliable and teachable.
“Relationship to God” - Proverbs 2:1-20
The key to a life marked by wisdom is the heart. A life deeply in love with God will result in a life of wisdom and faith.
Proverbs 31 : A Godly Woman
A godly woman is a follower of Jesus, a lover of her husband, and a faithful mother to her children. Her beauty, value, and image, are found in Christ alone.
PROVERBS | A LIFE ROOTED IN GOD’S WIDSOM
The manhood of Proverbs is marked by character, strength, and action (Proverbs 4:1-13, Proverbs 15:18-33, Proverbs 28:18-28). Yet our aim is neither manhood nor wisdom but Jesus Christ, “the power of God and the wisdom of God” (1 Corinthians 1:24).
“Godly Speech” - Proverbs 15:1-4, 18:2-21
We are to steward our speech as a God-given instrument that reflects the gospel, and be responsible for what our speech causes in others.
“Wisdom in Behaviors” - Proverbs 23:15–35
Wisdom guides our behaviors in the freedom God gives us without abusing that freedom (which is sin). Stewardship is wise living.
Stewardship describes life in relationship with God. He is a good father who shares his wisdom with us, shepherds our hearts not just our behavior, and shapes our hearts to pursue what matters most.
“Godliness or Wealth?” Proverbs 3:9-23 & 27:21-27
God and wealth are not mutually exclusive, but they are frequently incompatible because the tendency to worship money. Having a right heart about finances is the key to the wisdom we need.
“Your Plan or God’s Plan?” - Proverbs 3:1-12 and 16:1-9
As sons and daughters of God we are given His wisdom, and His desire is that we are wise in our hearts and include him in our planning for 2018.
Living in God’s Spiritual Kingdom frees us to pursue God’s holiness in our lives and in the lives of others.
Communion reminds us that Jesus has come. The advent of Jesus resets our picture of humanity, restores our everyday experience, and redeems our sin & brokenness.
God’s love revealed in Jesus’ coming is covenantal, unconditional, adoptive, affectionate, personal, sacrificial, present, secure, initiating, and practical.
Advent is a season of preparing room in our hearts for Jesus by rehearsing the gospel story each day. It can be a season of renewal and recalibration as we reorient, and reset life to revolve around God’s Story. Some call this ‘re-storying our hearts (J.K. A. Smith).’ Hope of the Second Advent ‘restories’ our hearts to live in the darkness of now, with the hope, joy, peace, and love.
ADVENT: JOY
Following Jesus does not guarantee a life free from pain or struggle, nor does it mean living now just waiting for eternity. Faith in Christ means finding our joy in Him no matter what life looks like.
The coming of Jesus is a message of God’s peace by God’s grace through God’s promised one who transforms his people into followers of Jesus who graciously pursue peace with others.
HOPE OF CHRISTMAS
Jesus was born in the flesh so that we might see God. Through being made alive in Him (spiritually born) we have an inheritance reserved in heaven, a living hope guaranteed to us by Christ.
“Worship the King” Hebrews 13
The final thoughts in Hebrews are to take all that we have learned and put them into practice in the most effective way. It isn’t a list of moral behaviors but rather what transformation in Christ truly looks like in us.
JESUS OUR PERFECT EXAMPLE
Christians look to Jesus who endured suffering and pain in this world for us, so that we might be encouraged to endure hardship for the sake of reaching the lost around us.
Hebrews 11
Followers of Jesus share in a long, even ancient, history of the family of faith—men and women who received the grace of God, trusted the character of God, heeded the voice of God, and awaited the promises of God...to the very end.
THE PROMISES OF OUR FAITH
Jesus takes us beyond religious rules and order. In Christ the promises of our faith are about us being transformed inwardly, remaking us into who we were designed to be.
At the Fall of Humanity, sin caused all human beings to be eternally separated from God. The gospel is God providing a way for human beings to be reconciled to God through Jesus Christ.
Hebrews teaches us that the promises of the gospel (new covenant) are built on the accomplishments of Jesus and the faithfulness of God. Consider Jesus as the mediator (attorney), God as judge, and the verdict as eternity.
Jesus, the King of Righteousness and the King of Peace, is a high priest forever. This is good news if you’re tired of broken leaders, broken promises, and broken laws.
