Cornerstone Truth
“Suffering Victoriously As Christians… In Your Marriage and the Family of God!” Last week we introduced this lesson but this morning we will finish looking at the critically important human institutions of marriage and the church which is the family of God. Remembering that we are looking at each of these human institutions, created by God, for God’s purpose we will examine marriage in the same light. Marriage is also designed to fulfill the LORD’s ultimate purpose. The husband and wife are to be subject to their God given purpose and role in the marriage relationship. Submission to God’s will in any relationship means the sacrifice of “Self.” In a person’s sacrifice in marriage, to be in submission to the LORD’s will, there is often pain of many different kinds. We will focus on both the husband and wife in the LORD’s call to submit to Him and His will while serving each other in marriage. To fulfill His will we must also examine the critical spiritual nature and adornment of the wife and the husband as God’s word directs. We will conclude our lesson by examining our call to fulfill God’s purpose as Christians in context to being a part of His family. We will describe the purpose of our submission to one another and what the nature of that submission looks like.

“Suffering Victoriously As Christians… In Your Place of Work!” As we learned last week, we are to be in subjection to every human institution. The places of commerce and work were we earn our living, “by the sweat of our brow,” is a very important place to serve the LORD according to His will. We are taught to serve our earthly masters with all respect and honor regardless of whether they are good or unreasonable. I serving them according to God’s will we may need to endure unjust suffering at the hand of our earthly masters. If, when doing what is right according to God’s ethical standard for our behavior in the work place we will find favor with the LORD and receive His blessings. To be able to do this we must look to Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith. I following Christ’s example we recognize that Christ suffered when fulfilling His Father’s will and so we also may suffer injustice when doing the LORD’s will at our places of work. To look to His example will give us the strength and courage to set our faces like flint to serve the LORD in every way at our places of employment. In so doing, we will glorify His before men and receive praise, glory, and honor from the LORD on the last day.

“Suffering Victoriously As Christians!” This is the theme of our present mini-series of sermons taken from the text of the first epistle of Peter. This morning’s sermon is another call for a paradigm shift in our thinking to prepare us to experience, survive, and thrive during times of suffering in our future. The audience Peter was addressing were Christians who were soon to experience the suffering at the hands of the corrupt and insane depot, Nero. We don’t know what our future holds but to be mentally prepared is essential. So, we must listen as the LORD speaks through Peter to prepare all Christian in every generation to suffer at the hands of godless men. This morning we will wrestle with a little spoken of passage that calls us to fulfill God’s will be submitting ourselves to every human institution ordained by LORD. This morning we will examine some of these institutions and how we must respond to them in order to live within the will of our God. We will not be asked to do anything that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ did not do, but rather, we will be asked to walk in His footsteps in honoring all people including those who have the power and authority to inflict great suffering.

“Suffering Victoriously As Christians!” Are you prepared to suffer and die for your faith? The apostle Peter, using the power of the pen and inspiration by the Holy Spirit, worked to prepare God’s people for the pain and suffering of persecutions by Nero. Today will be the last lesson on preparing our mindset and building our determination to endure to the end!, “Growing and Thriving as God’s People!” is the title for this morning’s sermon. Our study this morning will be taken form the passage of Scripture found in 1 Peter 2:1-12. In our first point, we will hear of the critical importance of pruning or purging from our lives, as Jesus said, the bad fruit and then building the desire and longing to grow and be built up in His holy word! In the second, Christ will be exulted as Cornerstone for the house of God and we will be called out as living stones in the great temple of the living God! In this point we will be called to faithful obedience unto life or disbelief and rebellion leading to eternal condemnation. Finally, we will learn once again, that as a person perceives themselves, so they will respond to the challenges or trials in this life. As the chosen race, God’s precious people we are to proclaim the excellencies of the LORD in all we do and say! Again, as Christians, we must recognize ourselves as strangers and aliens in a fallen and corrupt world. In this, we must abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul and embrace the moral character and conduct of our Christ! In finishing the lessons communicated thus far we will be prepared to learn how to respond in many facets of trials, persecutions, and sufferings for Christ.

We continue this morning teaching through our mini-series titled, “Suffering Victoriously As Christians!” For those who have been following our sermons this year regarding the 8th Law of Momentum – The Power of Suffering, you realize the whole focus has been to give the faithful Christian man and woman the right mindset regarding suffering. The carnally minded person avoids suffering, complains about it, and ultimately succumbs to it in discouragement and despair, but the spiritually minded person embraces it when it comes and grows ever stronger in faithfulness and service to our King! This series of lessons on suffering victoriously will be based on an expository study of the letter of 1st Peter. Today we will finish our study from the lesson, “Our Faithful Response to His Great Salvation!” Understanding His amazing grace and love for us in paying our debt of sin, filling us with His Holy Spirit, and reserving our place in heaven through Christ’s resurrection our response of faithfulness must be one of total commitment to living only for Him. To prepare for times of great suffering ahead, Peter describes what our faithful response to God’s great salvation should look like. First, we will examine the 3 Building Blocks for developing the right mindset to prepare for suffering. Next, we will learn of the 3 Cornerstones for our Conduct to strengthen us for triumph in times of trial. Finally, we will drill down on two very important truths about the LORD’s great salvation that are given to inspire us to persevere and power through tough times, holding on to the hope of eternal life in the face of, what Paul calls, light and momentary affliction!

What does it mean when the Scripture says, we are to be conformed to the death of Christ? It could be assumed it speaks of our being crucified or sharing in a martyr’s death for being a Christian. In today’s sermon we will review the first two questions we answered last week and finish by focusing on the third question which we did not have time to start. First, we will review question one, what does it mean to be conformed to Christ’s death. We will define and illustrate the words conform and fashion. Next, we will review the answer to the second question, what does it mean, He died to sin for all? To help with this point we will read and examine the text from Romans 6:8-11. Finally we will finish by carefully taking a look at the question, what does it mean to consider that the members of your earthly body are dead to sin. To do this we will refer to the word’s of the Apostle Paul in his letter to the church is Colossae in Colossians 3:1-11.

Today we will bring the third sermon in our series “In the Hope of Eternal Life!” I our lesson we will examine the truth statement that the LORD manifested His plan for eternal life at the proper time. God’s timing is always perfect. Though many question Him about waiting so long before sending His son into the world to bring salvation, He did so at the proper time. Just as it takes time to develop a baby in its mother’s womb, or to develop a plan the construction of a home, so too the LORD’s perfect plan included time to prepare mankind for a relationship with Him through His Son Jesus Christ. This morning we will learn more about this great eternal plan to save all mankind.
There is hope of eternal life for those who are in Christ Jesus! In the second sermon of the series I have titled “In the Hope of Eternal Life” we will examine the awesome promise of salvation and eternal life with Him! Today we will look at three important truths about God’s promise of eternal salvation which is our hope! First, we will examine once again when the promise of eternal life was made to us by God. Next, we will find out when He guaranteed, secured, or “established” this promise to us for eternal life so that our confident hope would be in His provision! Finally, we will discover from many New Testament passage when His promise of eternal life will be fully fulfilled in our lives.
There is hope of eternal life for those who are in Christ Jesus! In the first of several sermons titled “In the Hope of Eternal Life,” we will examine the prerequisites of securing eternal life. In Matthew 22:14, Jesus said, “For many are called, but few are chosen” regarding eternal life. Today we will begin to learn and understand how to make sure of His calling and choosing you! We must be sure of when the LORD calls and when He chooses a person for eternal life. We will also discover what our part is in responding to His call and desiring to choose us for eternal life. It is important for us to learn that Christianity is not a religion filled with rituals and regulations but rather a relationship in which each individual in the relationship is an active participant. We will learn of our part in being a person who is faithful, knowledgeable, and active in living out our faith based on knowledge in godliness.
“Honey, Wisdom, and Hope for Life!” might be a humorous title for today’s sermon but the power of a few verses found in Proverbs can provide important direction and blessings for our lives! The LORD is awesome in His amazing examples and clear direction to experience real hope, purpose, meaning, and pleasure in this life and the life hereafter. During today’s sermon you will discover that honey, wisdom, and hope for eternal life have several things in common. First, we will discover why the LORD speaks of the amazing blessings of honey for our physical life to illustrate the awesome power of wisdom for soul health now in this life and for our life to come. Wisdom provides so many blessings in this life but more importantly it secures our place in heaven for eternity. Come and learn about these amazing truths from God’s word
“Jesus Christ is Our Only Hope!” It doesn’t take too much time to consider the validity of the statement, Jesus Christ is our only hope. The only sure and constant things in this life is change and death. Indeed, from a carnal perspective everything in this life will either change or pass away! To put your hope in those things that change or perish is foolishness. Today, we will look at the question, “What does it mean, Jesus is our only hope?” To answer this question we will look at the unchanging nature of the Lord’s promises to us for both life now on earth and then life with Him in heaven. The second question we will answer is, “How is it that, Jesus is our only hope?” We will examine the nature and character of Jesus Christ. Who is this man, Jesus? How do we know He will keep His promises?
“What are you living for?” This is a great question that has eternal consequences! For those who choose to muse upon this question they will come to realize it is a matter of hope. If you live like and for the world and the things of the world which are passing away you are living in a state of hopelessness that will only become eternally worse when you pass from this life. If you choose to live for Christ, His people, and the things of heaven you will enjoy all the rich spiritual blessings of God in this life and the eternal fullness of joy, pleasures, and gladness that can only be secured in Christ when you enter into your eternal rest in heaven! In so choosing, you will be living in an eternal state of hope which will find its fulfillment when you stand before the King of kings, and the LORD of lords and hear the awesome words, “Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world!” and also, “Well done thou good and faithful servant, enter into you rest!”
So, this very important question is for you to answer in each and every decision, choice, thought, word, and deed!
“Crushing the Schemes of Desires and Pleasures!” once again, is the title for our lesson this morning! In the last two Lord’s Day we answered the questions, “What are these Desires and Pleasures? and also Guarding our Hope against Desires and Pleasures of this World!” Having defined these two schemes of Lust and Hedonism we illustrated them using the writings of the Apostle Paul and James the brother of our Lord. Today, we will finish answering the question, “How can we guard our hope from being stolen by the desires and pleasures of the world?” The answer of course is simple but the practice is challenging! We need to have a renewed mind set when it comes to our lusts and pleasures. We must hate what is evil and love what is good. Have you ever heard the old saying, “Money is a wonderful tool but a terrible Master!” Money and the riches of this world are not evil in and of itself. The problem is found in our lustful desires for it and all that it can do to us if we choose to live for it and not for the LORD. Like most inanimate objects it is neither evil or good. How it is used can be either evil or good, thus it is what resides in a person’s heart that makes it evil nor good. This morning, we will examine the deceitfulness of riches or wealth. It is amazing how subtle, how stealthy, how easily the love of money can creep into our hearts. I have known many who have rationalized their working, planning, and investing to disguise their desire for riches believing it will provide the joy, fulfillment, and security their heart is seeking! Jesus clearly teaches how deceitful riches can be in robbing us of the true joy, fulfillment, and security that only a right relationship with Him can bring. Let us be ever vigilant that we might not be deceived by the trickery and deceitfulness of riches and wealth.

As you may recall the title of this series is “Holding On to Hope in Trials, Temptations, and Tribulations!” Today we continue our study on the subtle ways Satan works to distract, discourage, and destroy our hope in Christ. We will finish our sermon, “Overcoming Temptations and Worries” First, we will return to what the bible describes as the the worries of the world. We will define what the word worry means and then we will look at how the worries of the world destroys our hope. In our second point, I will describe two ways to overcome these worries of the world, this insidious way the devil works to steal our hope and faith in Jesus Christ.. This sermon is important to understand how worrying is a strategy that Satan uses to cause us to give up and walk away from the hope we possess in Christ!
As you may recall the title of this series is “Holding On to Hope in Trials, Temptations, and Tribulations!” and our sermon last week was titled, “The Subtle Schemes to Steal Our Hope” Today we will be preaching on how to overcome two of the four schemes, namely temptations and the worries of the world! In our first point we will read from Luke and Matthew to determine what the the three satanic attacks are that shake out those who have joyfully received the word, are young and have “no firm root.” We will then read from James 1:12-15 to see how the devil effectively uses temptation to steal a person’s hope. To close this point we will look at how to overcome temptation as directed by our Christ. In the second and final point of the sermon we will examine Scripture to determine how to overcome the worries of the world. We will first define what these worries are and also what it means to be choked by them. Then we will offer two ways or solutions for overcoming the worldly worries that plague and destroy our faith and hope in the LORD. Both this sermon and next week’s sermon are designed to aid us in figuring out how to neutralize these satanic schemes used by the devil to shipwreck our faith, destroy our hope, and steal our salvation!

Finally, we will look at the four subtle and insidious ways the devil works to steal our hope in Jesus Christ so we can be aware and take precautions against these satanic attacks. This sermon is important to understand several of the many strategies Satan uses to cause us to give up and walk away from the hope we possess in Christ! As in all conflicts, we must know our opposition and the strategies and plans they will use to try and prevail against us.

Our beloved brother Luke reminds us that our Lord said, “Strive to enter the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter but not be able.” Also, Matthew reminds us of these words in Matthew 7:13-14, “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and their are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and their are few who find it.”
We begin a new mini series of sermons regarding Hope! The title of this series is “Holding On to Hope in Trials, Temptations, and Tribulations!” This morning I will preach a sermon titled, “Can Christians Lose Their Hope in Christ?” This is one of many hard questions that we need to ask ourselves and then search the Scripture to determine the truthful answers. First, we need to be reminded of what hope is; how does God define Hope in Him? Second, it is important to understand the nature of the foundation for our hope in Christ. Finally, we will seek to answer the question, “Can Christians Lose Their Hope in Christ?” If the answer is NO, we can sit back and coast into heaven. If the answer is YES, we can lose our hope, then we need to grow our faith, moving on to maturity, setting our faces like flint, in being resolved to live for Him and not ourselves.
We are the Children of God! We are the Bride of Christ!
We have an eternal relationship with the LORD Jesus Christ based upon genuine faithfulness and real love, not rules and regulations!
Our Hope is eternally secure through Faith and Love! Christ’s love and faithfulness is demonstrated in His living a holy and blameless life and then sacrificing Himself for us on the cross, and even now, in His continual presence and intercession for us as our High Priest.
For us, our commitment to faithful obedience and sacrificial love in serving God our Father and our Lord Jesus also secures the Hope of our eternal inheritance. In this sermon we will examine the scriptural basis for these truths and we will also be called to count the cost to remain faithful until the Lord Jesus returns for us.
Jesus Christ reigns Supreme over all of Creation! As the great Apostle Paul wrote to the church at Colossae, “For by Him all thing were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities – all things have been created through Him and for Him.” Peter tells us that we are protected by the power of God! The hope of our salvation and our eternal inheritance is secure in Him. It must be added though, His power to save and secure is based upon our faith. Notice Peter says we, “who are protected by God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” We are told by Paul that faith comes by hearing and responding to the word of God. Peter also confirms, “that His divine power has granted to us everything we need for life and godliness through the true knowledge of Him who called us into His own glory and excellence.” Let us then discover the great power by which we are protected and the amazing faith that we can possess by listening to and humbly following the word of the Lord Jesus!
Did you know that if it were not for the LORD’s deep and abiding mercy for mankind we would all be hopelessly lost? This morning we will discover that our living hope has been and continues to be secured by Christ’s mercy! This morning’s sermon title is “God’s Great Mercy Secures Our Hope!” We will search the Scriptures to discover that our hope of eternal life is realized through our union together with Him through the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit who indwells the Christian man or woman. We will also learn through prophecy that this hope founded upon God’s mercy has been and continues to be the anchor for our souls unto eternity. Finally, we will find that the LORD’s continuing mercy is what sustains our living hope until this hope is fully realized at the coming for our LORD Jesus Christ
This morning we will discover that the faith and hope of the saints of old was based on their conviction that God’s promise and provision was and and continues to be the hope of the resurrection of the dead unto life eternal with God. Our lesson will begin with the Apostle Paul in chains giving his defense before the Roman governor Felix against the evil accusations of the Jewish leaders and lawyers who desired to silence Paul and the proclamation of the gospel of Christ! We learn from this historical event that the faith and hope of the Old Testament faithful saints was in God keeping His promise for the provision of deliverance through the resurrection. In the Law, the Pentateuch, which is the first five books of the bible we discover in typology and foreshadowing the resurrection unto life communicated in the life of Noah and Abraham. In the Prophets we find clear statements about the hope of all men and women of faith regarding the resurrection of the dead unto life eternal! The hope of all God’s people both present and past is that we will all rejoice at the resurrection of the dead and living into eternal joy with Christ at His coming!
“Hope is Abundant with Christ in Your Life!” The New Testament is filled with passages of Scripture that speak of the great hope that Christians can and do experience through faith and obedience to the LORD’s word. You see, we must understand that our hope is build on some very important and powerful foundational principles found in the New Testament. First, our faith is based on upon God’s word only! Next, our faith must be in God and the redemptive and sanctifying work of Christ Jesus in our lives. Finally, we must recognize that Jesus is LORD and we, being under His authority, are called to humbly and lovingly obey Him. A person filled with the true and lasting hope found through Christ must be united together with Him in the redemptive work accomplished through His death, burial, resurrection, and subsequent ascension into heaven. The hope filled person will then be found living the abundant, joy filled, life as he or she serves Him with great excitement and purpose!
This morning we begin a mini-series titled “Moving from a Hopeless to a Hope-Filled Life!” For a human being hopelessness can be defined in many ways. With a mind set on the carnal needs and wants in this world life can become hopeless very quickly. Even if a person’s life is filled with all good things they may still be living a life that is hopeless. Understanding true hopelessness will help us to find hope not only in this carnal world but hope eternal that offers blessings both now and into eternity that the carnally minded person can never experience until they commit themselves to a faithful relationship with God through Jesus Christ. The title for this morning’s lesson will be “There is No Hope Without God in this World!”
Praise the LORD, by His glorious design, those of us who are Christians have been born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead! If you were able to join us in person or online last LORD’s Day morning we learned what it means to born again and what it means that we have been born again to living hope filled with countless blessing in this life and in the next.
In Zechariah 9:9-12 the LORD God tells us of this great and glorious news in a most profound way. This passage without a doubt is speaking of Jesus, His great sacrifice in which He shed the blood of His covenant through which we are set free from the consequences of our sin and the fear of death! This great prophecy foretells our being placed into Christ who is our stronghold and only hope. This hope restores not only the rich blessings in this life one hundred fold but ensures eternal life in the next! Praise the LORD for His amazing plan which proclaimed throughout the Scriptures in both the Old and New Testaments!
It is great news to know that as humans, though we were were born into a world of broken dreams and a DEAD HOPE, we can be born again into a LIVING HOPE which provides a life of real meaning, purpose, joy, and peace in a world filled with disappointment and sorrow. This promise is conditional and Jesus says, You must be born again! This morning we will listen to the Word of Christ as He explains what it means to be born again to a living hope and become one of God’s beautiful, glorious, and powerful New Creations! We will also discover what the term “Living Hope” actually means. To do, this we will compare the DEAD HOPE this world offers with the LIVING HOPE the Lord offers to all who will believe and obey the gospel!

I love the old Hymn, “On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand!” So many of the old hymns and songs teach powerful Scriptural truths and this one speaks the truth when the lyrics speak, “My hope is built on nothing less that Jesus’ blood and righteousness.” This morning we will delve into the meaning of Hebrews 10:19-23. We will discover that our hope and confidence of being resurrected unto life eternal indeed rests upon the blood sacrifice of Christ as He bore all our sins in His body on the cross and His faithfulness which empowered Him to live a holy and blameless life of righteousness which He imparts to us with His indwelling presence of His Spirit. As the word of God speaks in 2 Corinthians 5:21, “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf that we might become the righteousness of God in Him!”
This morning we will examine the first of our two anchor verses for this year’s theme, “The Power of Hope!” In Psalm 62:1-12 we will find the first of many Old Testament definitions and illustrations of our unshakeable hope. There is only one true and lasting hope in this life. There is no other! Our hope is from God. Our hope is Jesus Christ our LORD! Though all hell assail us He will never leave us or forsake us! It is only through Him who loves us that we overwhelmingly conquer in this life. So, when all of life’s challenges come upon us how can we be quiet, still, and filled with hope? First, we must know Him and draw ever nearer to Him. Second, we must know and reject the delusions of the carnal man. Finally, we must trust only in Him, relying on His power, love, and kindness.

As Christians in the United States we have not been persecuted as in other nations and have suffered little. As we broaden our horizon and have a more international perspective we realize this is not the norm for so many countries around the world. Realizing the blessing we have enjoyed in the past, now we must be ever vigilant and committed to do our part, how ever small or large, in strengthening the brethren for the days ahead. To be courageous and strong for the brethren we must first be resolved to grow our personal and individual faithfulness in Christ as His committed and devoted followers have been over the millenniums since the day of Pentecost. This morning’s sermon, “How to Be Courageous When Facing the Fear of Persecution and Suffering!” will help us make right choices now to be strong and courageous when facing persecution and suffering. First, we will examine three Scriptural choices that will embolden us to be fearless when facing persecution. These are tough choices we need to make daily now to prepare for what our future will hold. Second, we must also understand the correct Scriptural choices to be made now to prepare us for the painful sufferings which often come with persecutions. To conclude the lesson, we will discover the importance of continually having the spiritual perspective and understanding that this life in our physical bodies is only temporary. You must remember, “After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm,strengthen, and establish you. To Him be dominion forever and ever, amen!” 1 Peter 5:10-11
This morning we will examine how to conquer the fear of man! I have found that this fear plagues so many of us whether it is the fear of what others might be thinking of us or a fear of physical harm that might be inflicted by others. As other fears this is real and debilitating. Let us discover from the Scriptures that overcoming this fear comes through genuine and real faith and trust in the LORD. Lips service won’t cut it when it comes to fearing man. We must have a deep and abiding belief that the LORD is ever present and is working to provide, protect, and lead us in His will regardless of the situation or circumstance. This morning’s sermon is titled “Overcoming the Fear of Man Through Faith and Trust in God! We will begin by examining Proverbs 29:25 to define the fear of man and the snares that come our way when we fear man and not God. Secondly we will discover Through the Psalms and the words of our Christ that believing, trusting, and humbling ourselves before our Christ and Lord will destroy the fear of man.
In our quest to answer the question how can a Christian conquer the fear of death we discovered as Christians we need to serve the LORD responsibly in duty and devotion. We also learned last week that to believe and trust in Christ Jesus as the one and only Sovereign who knows every thought, every word, and every day of our lives, also knows the day of our passing. As the Psalmist has said, “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His godly ones.” Psalm 116:15. This morning we turn to Christ’s eternal provision that we may not be enslaved to the fear of death as others who have no hope. To do this we will answer two important questions. First, we will answer the question, “Why did Jesus Christ come to earth and dwell in a body just like ours?” Once we quickly establish He did dwell among us in a physical body, we will then give the two Scriptural reasons why this was essential to set us free from the slavery of the fear of death. Second, we will answer the question, “How did Jesus set us free from the fear of death?” To do this He initially needed to pay the full price for our sins our propitiatory sacrifice and then He need to become a merciful and faithful High Priest to forgive us of our future sins and to be an intercessor for us at the right hand of the Father.
In the last sermon about Conquering the Fear the Death- Through Duty and Devotion we found that the man or woman who is completely yielded to God’s will and committed to serving Him from both duty and devotion, will stand their ground and live for Him until their last breath. This morning I want to dig deeper and look to the understanding of God being our only Sovereign and trusting Him with every day of our life! We will begin by defining what is meant by the LORD being our only Sovereign. We will follow with an in depth look at Psalm 139:1-6 and verse 16. We will discover every day of our life was ordained by the LORD before even one of them came into being. We will also discover that the day of our death is also known by our LORD. Knowing these truths, if we trust in the LORD’s sovereignty, we can take great comfort and courage in each and every day and the last day of our lives. Also, we can choose to faithfully glorify Him by following Him and His word in every thought, word, and deed!

This simple sentence describes the culmination of the LORD’s awesome plan to set millions of people free from the fear of death and secure their souls in heaven with Him! This morning we will begin a mini series titled, “Conquering the Fear of Death!” We will examine the resurrection of Christ from past, present, and future perspectives. We will travel back to that first day of the week when Jesus rose from the dead. Next, we will briefly examine the present power to those who have obeyed the gospel plan of salvation and have been “raised up and seated with Him in the heavenly places!” Finally, we will hear the awesome news of the resurrection of the dead, body, soul and spirit complete on the last day!
The denominational world calls this LORD’s Day, Palm Sunday. The LORD calls it a day of remembrance and decision!
Today, will you Choose or Refuse the call of wisdom and the fear of the LORD? The Scriptures are clear and concise, choosing wisdom and to fear the LORD will result in enduring wealth, honor, and Life, but to refuse the call of wisdom and the fear of the LORD will result in distress, anguish, and death. One would think most people would choose honor and over distress, enduring wealth and not anguish, Life instead of death! Sadly, both observation and experience would suggest different! The problem lies in people being apathetic, lazy, selfish, and stubborn instead of being, submissive, mindful, and diligent in loving the truth. This morning you will be challenged to think about your life and how it looks when compared to the two options. Will you Refuse or Choose wisdom and the fear of God?
In remembering and meditating on the words of the Apostle Paul, “I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things and count them but rubbish so that I that I may gain Christ…” we ought to be moved to humbly worship and serve Jesus Christ the blessed and only Sovereign! To Fear the Lord in reverence is to yield our will and our lives to His Lordship in faithfulness and love. Knowing who He is and what great things He has and is doing for us should inspire and move us to bow the knee and our will to His will in humble obedience. This morning we will examine this truth by first listening to the “word of faith” found in Romans 10:8-17. With this passage we will establish that faith in what Christ has and is accomplishing for us moves our hearts to confess, believe, and obey in Him as our Lord and Sovereign! We will also establish from Psalm 130:1-4 that this response to Christ’s sacrifice as Lord moves us to fear Him in faithfulness and love as we serve Him with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength!
I consistently marvel during my meditative reading of the Scriptures each day. In continuing to dig deeper into the meaning and life application of the concept of “The Fear of the LORD” I am finding a consistent call to humility and yielding my life and my will to the LORD’s will as revealed in the the Scriptures. The rich blessings and rewards for those who will humble themselves and fear the LORD are the things that every human being craves for their life but rarely experiences them or enjoys them. The lasting riches, true honor, and abundant life that God desires for each and every person can only be found and experienced in true humility and fearing the LORD. This morning we will work on examining three of the countless blessings of fearing the LORD. First, we will introduce the lesson by quickly reviewing the meaning of fearing the LORD and defining humility. Next, we will delve into a brief study of true riches and the wealth that is enduring. Thirdly, our attention will be focused on what is true honor and what is its source. Finally, we will consider what it means to enjoy life abundantly as Jesus promised to those who love and obey Him.
This morning I will set forth the end goal of this year’s annual theme, “The 6th Law of Momentum-The Power of Fear!“ I would like to begin with an earthly father’s perspective and heart’s desire for his children and then elevate our thoughts to our heavenly Father. Second, I hope to establish the first step in the goal of our instruction this year to be embracing and embodying a faith that is working through love. The culmination of our faith working through love must result in casting out every fear that possesses mankind and our unhealthy warped fear of our heavenly Father who loves us more than He loved His own son and Jesus, our eldest Brother, who has set the perfect example of loving others by laying down His life completely for us!
This morning we will finish the sermon is titled “The Fear of the LORD is the Beginning of Knowledge and Wisdom” We are examining the Scripture from Proverbs 1:7 and 9:10. Last week we discovered that the starting point for all real truth, knowledge, and wisdom is the reverential fear of the LORD, the only true Sovereign, omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent! So, this week we will quickly review what the fear of the LORD means and what the Scriptures teach regarding the truth statement that “The beginning of knowledge is the reverential fear of the LORD.” The closing point, which we didn’t get to last week will be to describe what the beginning of wisdom is the reverential fear of the LORD means. I have included once again the sermon note sheets and the two handouts with important quotes by two awesome scientists who changed the world with their discoveries of God’s Creation!
