This workshop is designed for new teachers, however it is open to all as the topic is pertinent no matter what stage a teacher is at in their career.

Practical tools and strategies to use when faced with difficult situations.
Explore QPAT’s new guide: Suggestions and Guidelines How To Intervene in Difficult Situations.
Participants will also partake in a Meet and Greet with union leaders. Enjoy a fun day of learning exercises and hands-on activities. This workshop will be presented in English.

In this session, I want to be able to share some ways in which we can take the experiences that have come from our isolation, introspection, and our opportunities to become a bit more informed, and from that, work towards a future where we are better prepared. The isolation was created due to the global pandemic and our need to protect our own health and the health of our families and community through keeping our social distance and becoming adept with the use of personal protective equipment. Then another shock. The killing of George Floyd, the global protests and demands for justice that have not been seen before. Many of us could never have imagined such a time. Our kids also have been part of this period. Your students may have many questions, you may have many questions. What are some of the approaches you might want to consider in your classrooms and in your teaching practice related to the 'racial pandemic'? What does it mean if you have little diversity where you live or teach? This presentation will discuss some practical considerations regarding diversity, inclusion and equity using a Black History frame of reference.

Violence is trivialized within the teaching profession, and yet, physical and psychological violence or cyber-bullying by students, parents, co-workers and administrators is far from being normal. It has some major impacts, not only on the education system in general, but also on the physical and psychological health of teachers and their everyday quality of life at work. To understand the problem of violence, QPAT carried out a survey of randomly-chosen members. Here is a summary of the results and details about what we are doing going forward.
La violence est banalisée au sein de la profession enseignante. Pourtant, cette violence physique, psychologique et la cyber-intimidation provenant d’élèves, de parents, de collègues et de l’administration n’ont rien d’un phénomène normal. Elle a des impacts importants, non seulement sur le système d’éducation en général, mais aussi sur la santé physique et psychologique du personnel enseignant ainsi que sur la qualité de vie au travail au quotidien. Afin de mieux cerner la problématique entourant les situations de violence, l’APEQ a réalisé une enquête auprès de ses membres choisis aléatoirement.
