Two guys in their sixties talk about philosophy, technology, business, life in general, and anything else we feel like talking about. We bring our life experience and sense of humour to each episode. Sometimes we're serious, sometimes not so much; no matter what, we'll keep it interesting.
John and Paul had the pleasure of talking with internationally renowned Chef John Higgins. Mr. Higgins has been practicing his craft for over four decades. He was Queen Elizabeth's Chef for some time and has worked at so many high-profile restaurants, it would be impossible to list them all. He spent many years - and has just retired - as the Director of Enterprises and Brand Ambassador for the Center for Culinary Arts at George Brown College in Toronto.
John relates some great anecdotes, drops a few names, and talks about what it takes to make it in the culinary world.
A scholarship has been set up in John Higgin's name through the Center for Culinary Arts. "The Chef John Higgins Award of Excellence will support students enrolled in Chef School, Centre for Hospitality and Culinary Arts." Please consider donating to this scholarship. Here is the link ...

John and Paul had the opportunity to interview Colette Mesher from the Ontario Beekeepers' Association ("OBA"). Colette has a Ph.D. from the University of Plymouth in the United Kingdom. She is actively involved in the beekeeping industry working for commercial beekeepers, teaching workshops, and running her own beekeeping business. She is currently the OBA's "Technology Transfer Program Lead Specialist".
This was an extremely informative interview (to say the least). There's so much the average person does not know about bees! Colette talks about everything from pollination to honey to diseases and how to get started in the apiary world.

This is an interview with Brian Salt from the Salthaven Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Centre in south-western Ontario. Brian started Salthaven in the 1990s, and it has grown to the point where his team takes care of 2000 wild animals in need of help. This is an eye-opening talk about taking care of wild animals, what threatens them (you'd be surprised), and how Salthaven cares for and eventually releases them back into the wild.
Salthaven is in need of certain products on an ongoing basis, so if you can donate, please do so. They actually list those items that are most urgent at the bottom of their donations page here ...

Salthaven loves volunteers. Volunteer applications can be found on their website and are accepted beginning January each year for ages 16 with parents' consent, otherwise age 18 and over. They are also looking for skilled tradespeople, most notably carpenters. See here ...

With the subject of ransomware appearing in the news media more and more, we thought it would be interesting to go right to the RCMP and talk about it. They were not only gracious and accommodating, but in this podcast we get to interview the Director General of their National Cybercrime Coordination Unit (NC3), Mr. Chris Lynam.
Chris has many, many years of experience dealing with security and intelligence issues for the Canadian Government and law enforcement agencies. His knowledge of the subject is vast. As you can imagine, he is a busy man, so we were thrilled that he took some time out of his schedule to talk with us.
You'll learn a lot listening to the Director General of NC3, Mr. Chris Lynam.
Know what "triple extortion" is? Did you know Bitcoin can be traced? Who does the NC3 liaise with internationally?
John and Paul would also like to thank ...
Kim Chamberland, Media Relations Officer
Robin Percival, Media Relations Officer
Margaret Riehle, Communications Strategist
... without whom this interview would not have happened.

The RCMP has asked me to mention the following ...
Victim reporting is key to addressing cybercrime incidents as it enables law enforcement to combat cybercrime and helps identify linkages across separately reported cybercrime incidents, such as links to organized crime.
Anyone who suspects they have been the victim of cybercrime, scam or fraud should report it to their local police of jurisdiction and to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre’s online reporting system or by phone at 1-888-495-8501. Please note, if someone experienced an incident but didn’t fall victim, they are still encouraged to report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

Learn more about the National Cybercrime Coordination Unit (NC3) and the New cybercrime and fraud reporting system. On the reporting system webpage, you will see we are currently looking for small or medium-sized business owner volunteers to provide feedback on our pilot reporting website so that we can better understand what Canadian businesses need from a scam, fraud and cybercrime reporting service.

Anyone interested in huge dance conventions should take a listen to this podcast with retired businessman Byron Starr.
Byron produced the Sea-To-Sky dance convention in Vancouver, Canada for 7 years (at least) up to 2010. (FYI: It is now operated by a different owner out of Seattle, USA.) He also organized hundreds of local dances and is one of the dance community's most well-recognized figures.
In this episode of the Two Old Guys Talking podcast we interview author Anita Wladichuk. She wrote the book, "Anastasia and The Ghostly Owl". In this podcast, we talk about child abuse and family violence. If that subject is too intense for you, this episode is not for you.

In this podcast, we talk about news media, journalism, and reporting. Everyone has varying degrees of trust in the way news is reported, and we talk about the way we see it.
In this podcast, we talk about nutrition and the supplements we take. This is just two old guys talking about what works for them. Every product we talk about is something we actually use, but we're not nutritionists, and we're not giving advice. For the science behind nutrition, we both recommend Dr. Rhonda Patrick's website. There are links to her website, all products, and numerous articles in the podcast notes on our website:
https://twooldguystalking.com/
This podcast is about fitness, and what two old guys do about it. Although we've decided not to enter the Mr. Olympia contest, we're still doing a lot of things that most people our age aren't doing, but could do.
Supporting charities and volunteering are great ways to bring positive energy into the world! In the hustle and bustle of day-to-day survival, helping others pays big dividends personally. What goes around comes around. Having said that, there's more to this podcast than meets the eye.
This podcast covers what a couple old guys think about charities and volunteering.
Religion & Spirituality is an important part of human history, and we respect people's religious views. Nonetheless, this is an unrehearsed talk, so you aren't getting a deep philosophical discussion here. Also, we probably haven't articulated everything we might (or should) have. Just two old guys with some life experience being frank in their opinions.
Aummmm ... no, it's nothing like that. That's a stereotype. Paul and John both meditate, but do it quite differently. Nonetheless, the benefits are real! We use meditation to calm the mind. There are other techniques than meditation, too. For instance ... Ayahuasca, Psilocybin. Music. Cold showers. Learning how to breath beneficially. Isolation tanks. In this episode of Two Old Guys Talking, see what we're doing with meditation to calm the mind and reduce stress. See our website and our YouTube channel for relevant supporting links.
What makes life meaningful? How do you conduct yourself? In this podcast, the two old guys talk about their general philosophy of life.
Are social media sites good or bad? Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, etcetera. The two old guys have different opinions on this topic! We weigh the pros and cons and throw in a dash of social commentary.
This episode of the Two Old Guys Talking podcast is about technology. Paul and John are more “wired” than you may think. Paul did database management consulting for 12 years. (He also did years of programming before that.) John uses all kinds of technology in his business. Nonetheless, what you’re getting is just their opinion. It’s just an informal talk. Don’t wire the data centre based on what you learn here. We do take the topic seriously, and have done our best to inform. Hope you enjoy. Please leave comments. Thanks!
This podcast is on critical thinking and cognitive biases! An important topic. What influences our thinking? What biases are we not even aware of?
What do you get here? You get two guys in their sixties talking about critical thinking and cognitive biases. You do not get an “expert” opinion. We’re also not claiming to have any particular status to throw about. It’s just our opinion. Nonetheless, we take the topic seriously, and have done our best to inform. Hope you enjoy. Please leave comments. Thanks!
