What a year! 2020 Australian Elite Track Nationals were postponed twice and finally held in late December at Anna Meares Velodrome in Brisbane. It was my first time competing at Elite Track Nationals and on this podcast episode I share my experience and what were my Top 5 takeaways.

Grace Brown only bought her first bike 5 years ago and just last month won a Belgium Classic after finishing 5th at the World Championships representing Australia. Michael Shippley is larger than life. You know when he is in the room or in the velodrome. He has an energy, enthusiasm and zest for life that is infectious.
Michael, or Shippley as he is often known, is an Aussie para track cyclist in the C4 category. He’s a former triathlete and Olympic weightlifter.
Then in 2014, his whole world changed. He had a motorbike accident which resulted in a left common perennial nerve palsy (foot drop) and multi ligament damage to his left knee.
Shippley kept up his sports and found his way to track cycling which then took over in a big way. He’s a Qld Academy of Sport athlete and the current 1km time trial Australian Record Holder in his category. He’s currently chasing selection for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and has a few months left to do it. Hear his story and learn what drives him towards Tokyo.
How does missing the Olympics turn into an opportunity of a lifetime? Listen in to Queenslander Kristina Clonan’s story about how she moved to Adelaide as part of the Australian Women’s Track Endurance Team in 2018 and after missing selection for the 2020 (now 2021) Olympics, she has been reallocated within the Cycling Australia program to Podium Potential in sprint. Kristina is now targeting the 2022 Commonwealth Games and beyond. She’s a dual medallist at the Junior World Track Championships and has raced in the Tour Down Under and the Japan Cup. Kristina is a 2 times Aussie National Track Champion and has also won gold in the under 23 criterium at the Aussie Road Nationals. At just age 22, Kristina recently posted the fastest times in the elite women’s 500m time trial and the flying 200m in the Cycling Australia Virtual Track Challenge in October. Emily Watts is a powerhouse on the Australian women’s cycling scene. At only 19, Emily has ridden in the Tour Down Under, the Cadel Evans Road Race and achieved a silver medal at the National Championships in 2020 in the under 23 time trial. She is a regular on the Australian National Road Series (NRS) scene and was heading to Europe to race before COVID changed her plans in 2020. Emily is currently mixing it with the best in Australia in the individual pursuit on the track.
