Today we're continuing our series through the book of Titus, a
series we've titled Gospel Witness in Everyday Life.
So far, we've spent our time in chapter one, and what a rich chapter it has been. Even in Paul's
opening greeting to Titus, we discovered so much theological depth.
We talked about how the God of Scripture is utterly different from the gods worshiped by the
Cretans. We saw that because our God is trustworthy, we can rest confidently in His trustworthy Word.
We also looked at the qualifications of an elder, or overseer, and came to this important conclusion: God
is far more concerned with the character of the shepherd than with the abilities of the shepherd. God
equips those He calls, but those He calls must also be qualified.
