It seems that a movie from a very popular Japanese anime that is set in the not to distant future of the currently running show is in and of itself a spoiler. My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising takes place on the isolated island of Naboo, where the young heroes are alone, without any pro heroes to chaperone, because of the decision of a not so wise government agency, (Although "wise government" is a contradiction in terms) The Hero Commission. Who would leave a bunch of high school kids, heroes or not, alone on an island?

In the latest episode of the Chains of Reason Podcast, entitled Real Life Happenings That Can Scare,  we discuss a UK ban on eating dogs is blocked for fear of offending people in the far east, as if western values should bow to eastern values. Next, in a clear cut demonstration of hating the good, not for their vices, but for their virtues, NY City Diversity Committee declares programs for gifted students as racist. as if knocking down those who are gifted would help those who are not and do it wear the cloak of racism.

It Just Gets Scarier From Here As a clear demonstration of a lack of a sense of history, a US Democratic Senate candidate chooses the guillotine as a symbol for the campaign demonstrating that sometimes ignorance can force you to show  your true colors. Apparently, the Reign of Terror isn’t all that scary  to some democrats and outright socialists.

To save the scariest for last, we talk about two different climate  change advocates that suggest the most evil notion possible, the eradication of the entire human race. If Hitler wants to eliminate a few  races he is considered, and rightfully so, evil beyond compare.  However, advocating letting the entire human race to become extinct seems to be considered heroic to some on the left. Is there anything more scary?

The integrity of Major League Baseball is once again in question with the Astros cheating scandal. With the popularity of baseball in a free fall, this could be worse for baseball than the Black Sox or the gambling of Pete Rose.

My heart is broken and my soul aches. Neil Peart was so much more than just masterful drummer and exceptional lyricist for Rush.  As someone  who was relentlessly mocked for reading as a child, Neil Peart demonstrated to me in no uncertain terms that it was a worthy endeavor to get lost in a book, even if just alleviate boredom. For me, he was a gateway drug. He was my gateway to Ayn Rand and from there into philosophy. The impact he made on my life, and certainly many others, is immeasurable.  Afterimage: in Memory of Neil Peart.

Some things just don’t seem right to do without during the Christmas  season. Christmas songs, family and/or friends and snow on the ground on  Christmas day come to mind. Certain Christmas movies are included on that list and some of them should even be checked twice, (cough, cough, Die Hard).

The NBA’s load management policy is about punishing teams for resting their star players during certain road games. The argument for the policy is that ticket buyers, who can fork out hundred’s of dollars for a  game, pay to see the star players of visiting teams, e.g., LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers. When those players are kept out of certain road games, paying ticket holders feel cheated because, apparently, they pay to see single players play and not teams. The counter argument is that the NBA is trying to do what the coaches are supposed to do  and manage the playing time of star players while on the road. Which side are you on?

The Fountainhead is a complex book and it’s theme is, as Ayn  Rand said, “Individualism v Collectivism, not in politics, in man’s  soul.” It’s a story about thinking through your own head or thinking  through someone else’s head, where each character acts according to a  certain code of values, but, not in the conventional way of thinking.  Ultimately, The Fountainhead a uniquely American novel about the pursuit of happiness.

Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead is a classic American novel, ironically written by a Russian who emigrated to America, about an  uncompromising architect named Howard Roark who refuses to think or build through anyone’s head but his own. Yet, this work of literature is much more complex than just being about architecture. This is the story where a new, abstract code of values (ethics) is presented in concrete form. Instead of, like the vast majority of philosophers, presenting her ideas in a dry treatise that reads “like stereo instructions,” Ayn Rand  demonstrates how her ideas apply to real life within a complex and compelling drama. Ultimately, the novel is about individualism v collectivism, but, as Ayn Rand said, not in politics, but inside man’s soul. It’s a story about a uniquely American idea, the pursuit of  happiness.

In this episode, we tap into pop-culture with a discussion about the Japanese anime "My Hero Academia." Considering our past topics, this is a light topic but, still, we do link some "chains of reason" to it with a little discussion about the morality of a world where 80% of the people possess some kind of "quirk" or superpower.  Plus Ultra!

"Is climate change real?" is not the correct question. The correct question is, "What is the meaning and/or magnitude of climate change?" In his episode we discuss the morality of the climate change movement, how it is an anti-capitalist, anti-prosperity, de-growth movement based more on emotions than facts.
