Welcome to today's episode of The Freedom Sisters Podcast. Today we will discuss the power of letting go and letting God. We will explore why it is important to surrender our worries and fears to God, and how doing so can bring us peace and freedom.
Letting go and letting God means surrendering our worries, fears, and control to Him. It involves acknowledging that we cannot control everything in life, and that we need to trust in God's wisdom and guidance.
By letting go of our burdens, we open ourselves up to God's love and grace, and we allow Him to work in and through us.
Letting go and letting God can be challenging, especially when we feel overwhelmed or uncertain about the future. But it is essential for our mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
Holding on to our worries and fears can lead to stress, anxiety, and even physical health problems. But when we surrender our concerns to God, we can experience peace, hope, and freedom.
Letting go and letting God also means forgiving others and ourselves. It means releasing the bitterness and resentment that can weigh us down and prevent us from moving forward.
When we forgive, we open ourselves up to God's healing and restoration, and we allow Him to transform our hearts and minds.
In conclusion, letting go and letting God is a powerful act of faith and surrender. It involves acknowledging our limitations and trusting in God's wisdom and guidance.
Let us commit ourselves to letting go of our worries and fears, and to surrendering ourselves to God's plan for our lives. By doing so, we can experience peace, hope, and freedom, and we can become vessels of His love and grace in the world around us.

Welcome to today's episode of The Freedom Sisters Podcast.
We will explore why humility is crucial for effective leadership, and how pride can alienate us from God. Humility in leadership means putting others' needs ahead of our own and recognizing that we are not perfect or all-knowing. It involves being willing to listen to feedback, admit mistakes, and learn from others.
A humble leader creates a culture of trust and respect, where everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute to the team's success.
Pride, on the other hand, can lead to a toxic work environment, where the leader's ego takes precedence over the team's needs. It can alienate team members and prevent them from reaching their full potential.
Humility in faith means recognizing that we are not the center of the universe, but rather a small part of God's creation. It involves being willing to submit to God's will and to serve others with humility and grace.
A humble person is aware of their own limitations and shortcomings, and relies on God's strength and guidance to overcome them.
Pride, on the other hand, can create a false sense of self-sufficiency and lead us to believe that we don't need God's help or the support of others.
Pride is a sin that can separate us from God. When we are filled with pride, we are focused on ourselves and our own needs, rather than on God's will and the needs of others.
Pride can prevent us from hearing God's voice, following His guidance, and receiving His blessings.
Humility, on the other hand, opens the door to God's grace and blessings. When we humble ourselves before God, we acknowledge our dependence on Him and invite Him to work in and through us.EPISODE TRANSCRIPT

Welcome to today's episode of The Freedom Sisters Podcast. Being intentional with your spiritual life means making a conscious effort to deepen your relationship with God, to seek His will, and to follow His guidance in your daily life.
This involves spending time in prayer, reading the Bible, attending church, serving others, and seeking the counsel of wise and mature Christians.
By being intentional with your spiritual life, you can develop a strong foundation of faith and wisdom that can guide you through life's challenges and opportunities.
Esther's preparation for the banquet was a sign of her intentionality and faith in God's plan for her life. She knew that she was called to be queen "for such a time as this" (Esther 4:14), and she was willing to risk her life to fulfill that calling.
Esther's preparation for the banquet also showed her respect for the king and her desire to honor him. She did not know if the king would summon her or kill her, but she was willing to take that risk and to present herself in the best possible light.
Like Esther, we need to be prepared for God's call on our lives, even if we don't know what that call will be or when it will come.
This means being open to new experiences, developing our skills and talents, and building strong relationships with others. It also means being willing to take risks and to step out of our comfort zones when God calls us to do so.
By being prepared for God's call, we can seize the opportunities that He presents to us and use our gifts and talents to serve Him and others.EPISODE TEXT

Welcome to today's episode of The Freedom Sisters Podcast. We are discussing empathy and compassion. In this episode, we will delve into the story of Esther from the Old Testament and explore the theme of sharing sorrow. Specifically, we will look at how Esther felt compassion for her people in a time of great need.
Esther was a Jewish queen who lived in Persia during the reign of King Ahasuerus. When the king's advisor, Haman, planned to kill all the Jews in the kingdom, Esther's cousin, Mordecai, urged her to intervene. Esther was initially hesitant, fearing for her own safety, but she eventually agreed to help.
We share deep insights about coming alongside others who are in pain and how we can show compassion and mercy to the world in need of a savior.EPISODE TEXT

Scripture for Episode
Hebrews 11 , James 2:14-26 , Ephesians 2:8-10, 1 Cor 3:10-15
It is not anything we do, but does this mean “we do nothing?”
We have faith, through grace that produces good "works". If we're each doing the good works set out before us, something is off - we are not listening to his voice, we are not living in our purpose that was prepared for us in advance.
1 Cor 3:10-15
As believers we have a choice what to build in our life as Christians. We should know that standing at the judgement seat will determine the value of what we built and spent our time in works is worth. Worthless and insincere works will be destroyed but the believer will be saved (even without reward). Only the permanent and eternally valuable will remain.
Questions
What does this mean for our lives on earth? How should we live?
Remember, live as if Jesus were coming in the next 10 minutes. But plan as if He were not coming for another 100 years.
Sometimes I get caught up in the thought, "well if Jesus is coming soon, I'm just going to sit back and wait. Should be soon anyway." ... But we're building a ministry with decades of impact is how we've chosen to plan out our life.
*Thanks for listening!

Do you want to live in a way that pleases God? How do we know we have a true faith? What should our lives look like, if we are believers? Kerri and Blanca promise to tackle gritty questions with a whole lot of grace, and they weren't lying. We are kicking off a 3-part series about Faith in Action, so buckle up this is gonna be a wild ride! Today they are going to discuss faith vs. belief.
Scripture for Episode:And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Heb 11:6
Faith - “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1
Faith in its truest from is when you have confidence in God to the point that it causes you to act. It impacts the way that we LIVE.
In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. James 2:17
Belief - An acceptance that a statement is true or that something exists.
Belief does not automatically translate into action. While it has the potential to transform or shape your behavior, there is no guarantee it will. Belief in its most elementary form is about what you accept to be true, not what you do with it.
Questions:
Can I believe in something and not have faith?

Scripture Shared on the Show:
1 Cor 1:20
Whatever God has promised gets stamped with the Yes of Jesus. In him, this is what we preach and pray, the great Amen, God’s Yes and our Yes together, gloriously evident. God affirms us, making us a sure thing in Christ, putting his Yes within us. By his Spirit he has stamped us with his eternal pledge—a sure beginning of what he is destined to complete.

One of the most critical factors a leader must have—is the ability to speak clearly and ensure others understand the message. Teresa Carpenter has 26 years of experience in the US Navy and holds the critical responsibility to Share the Story of the Navy.
Aircraft mechanic turned Warship Driver, turned Strategic Communicator—Theresa understands what it takes to survive and thrive as a woman in the military.
I am blown away by her pathway to storytelling, her uncanny advice, and the refreshing sentiment—what you see is what you get!
She has navigated murking waters of toxic leadership and found her voice on the other side.
She has so many critical points in this conversation about, empathy and expectations, proficiency and professionalism, breaking a story and building a team.
Here is another leader, that will have you grabbing your pen and notebook to write down all her pointers! She is intelligent, kind, honest and real—a breath of fresh air!
Owning her past mistakes and sharing stories that help others ensures that women and men for decades will be following the advice of this Navy Commander!
Theresa is articulate and authentic. If you are looking for ways to incorporate storytelling into your leadership opportunities, look no further...this episode is for you.

Going to space was always a lifelong goal of Merryl Tengesdal—one she would definitely achieve. But on her path to the stars, she also became a critical leader for both the US Navy and Air Force.
Elite pilot, authentic leader and woman who wears many hats, Merryl is a woman that so many women can relate to because she herself is relatable in addition to her incredible accomplishments.
When Merryl begins sharing her story, I can't help but relate to her and while I personally have never been a pilot in any aircraft let alone the prestigious Lockheed Martin U2, I find myself a new friend, just chatting over coffee and laughing like I have known her my whole life.
Maybe that is key to why she leads so well. She is real, she is authentic and she is damn funny! Her wit, wisdom and life lessons from her journey truly make her one of my personal favorite leaders to learn from.
As a woman, a wife, a mom, a writer, a risk-taker, a woman who paves her own way and invited others to walk down her path—will keep the listener engaged the moment this brilliant leader opens her mouth.
Merryl is captivating and honest. If you are looking for a mentor this episode is for you. The no-holds-bar honest talk with Merryl is here.
In this episode, we explore the personal motivation of a leader and how making your mark on the world is more than being the first to do something.
Merryl talks about her leadership style, how to push through limitations and how to lead firmly yet fairly in the US Armed Forces. We may even talk a little bit about adoption, determination and Pokemon Go!

Taking risks and overcoming challenges is second nature to Lt. Col. Lisa Jaster, most known for her incredible accomplishment of earning the coveted Army Ranger Tab. She was the third woman to earn the Ranger tab, but the first Army Reservist, who also happened to be a 37-year-old—mother of two.
Of course, we cannot sit down with THE LISA JASTER without talking about Ranger school, but there is so much more to this leader than her Ranger status. A humble and kind kickass leader, that currently serves at a battalion level command for Engineers. She is a great leader that truly cares about her troops.
She opens up about her time away from her kids, choosing Ranger school and standing in her legacy with her father, also a West Point Grad and Ranger. Parts of her story, I never knew are revealed in this interview. But one thing I knew I would love about her, is her remarkable humor and the motherly side of her that shines through her tenacious toughness.
If you are a woman who wants to leave your mark, Lisa is someone you should learn from! This episode is so impactful to all leaders (male or female) and I suggest you grab your pen and notebook and be ready to receive her advice with zest!
In this episode, we explore the personal motivation of a leader and how making your mark on the world is more than being the first to do something.
Lisa talks about her leadership style, Keys to her success as a leader and we share tears and loads of laughs talking about kids, Army responsibilities and understanding the risks involved.

Often times women step into leadership roles by force and other times by opportunity. Montana Pellegrini's Air Force dreams of becoming a pilot were taken from her for medical reasons outside of her control, but that didn't stop her from moving forward in leadership in the Air Force.
She empathized with other women who were suffering from migraines and literally in pain every day because of a grooming standard in the military.
So she began to ask questions about how to change the hair policy for female airmen. After joining forces with others who also sought the change, Montana played a key role in helping the Air Force Hair Policy reform. The hashtag #FreeTheBun was born and women service members rejoiced everywhere!
In this episode, we discuss how one person willing to champion change for others is sometimes all it takes, but you have to start! If you are not sure what a difference you can make for others or are struggling to know how to contribute to a greater cause, then this episode is a MUST listen!
Montana talks about her leadership style, the most important traits leaders must possess and we have a good time talking about how Millenials can and are making a difference for the better and for the future of the force!

Disclaimer: We talk about domestic violence in great detail in this episode, please listen with care.
Many of you know I am involved in advocacy work in addition to running the media company, although there is a lot of intersectionality in the two worlds, I tend to really focus on the success and triumphs of my sisters and not the murky darkness of turmoil, violence, sadness, etc.
But what I am seeing in our military today, quite frankly, just makes me sad and disappointed. I LOVE the military, I love what it can be, I think it can be a place of dignity, strength, honor and valor. I would have never willingly been a part of an organization for so long otherwise, but those suffering in silence from abuse of an intimate partner, fellow solider, leader or the powers who fail to hold others accountable have really come to a place where CHANGE IS A MUST.
Those of us who say we love people, we care about our country and we appreciate America's sons and daughters, must speak up, unite and help end this devastation that is rampant in our military.
These families give so much to this nation, we need to hold the ones destroying them - ACCOUNTABLE.
So, tune in to hear this powerful and informative conversation with Kerri, Amy and Jennifer three advocates actively pursuing the DoD to be accountable for the issues of violence among our force.

Lucy Del Gaudio is a superior women leader and advocate for change. She has been leading the way in New Jersey for more than a decade and in 2020, stepped into the national spotlight after the audacious murder of Spc. Vanessa Guillen.
During her testimony to congress, Lucy boldly and empathetically shared her story of trauma and triumph. As a Latina, she honestly shared the disparities women and minorities face while serving.
We go deeper into Lucy's personal memories and honor her grandmother in this conversation. She shares when she began the hard work of healing and committed to herself to live a life she could be proud of—a legacy for her family and our sisterhood.
And she is doing it. As a leader in our community, she works alongside some of the best organizations for women veterans, Minority Vets of America and The Pink Berets.
I humbly introduce this amazing woman to you all, Ms. Lucy Del Gaudio.

We are celebrating our 100th Episode with Stephanie Gattas, who served in the Navy 1994-2002 and after her own healing journey started The Pink Berets.
All month long TPB has sponsored our podcast and we are so grateful for their work in our community.
When women come to TPB they want to change their lives. All services are free of charge to the participant. One reason that Gattas was adamant that there be no cost to the participants is that by simply calling to inquire about the services, they are already taking responsibility for their lives and treatment and that is enough good faith to trust they’ll come through the door and use the services being provided for free. Eliminating the financial burden has proven critical to the success and empowerment of women veterans who come for the many programs and events.
The Pink Berets is a catalyst for women to reclaim what is rightfully theirs. On today's show, we sit down with this fearless LeadHER and learn so much about the pivotal moments and memories that keep her motivated in the space.
From helping troubled youth to being a fierce voice in the justice for Vanessa Guillen—every moment of this conversation is empowering and enlightening. Women are Warriors—listen in to find out more.

People experience life through the senses. The more we use our senses, the more they mature and help us fully integrate into life. Stimulating the five senses leads to great brain development. Making use of our senses is how we exercise our brains. Just like a car needs fuel, so do our brains. Our fuel gets refilled by continuing the make use of our ability for touch, taste, smell, sight and hearing. All of these senses get a work out in the kitchen.
Deb and Juanita share insights about the program and other opportunities that The Pink Berets provides.

For the whole month of August, The Freedom Sisters Podcast is brought to you by IDIG, LLC.
This week I get to continue this leadership series with IDIG with Vicky Demark. Vicki is the only partner of the company who is not in the Louisville, Kentucky area, she's actually in Texas and supports this organization from a remote location. Vicki is one of three co-owners of this company.
Keneidra, who we heard in week three and her husband, Darren, along with Vicki, created this beautiful organization because of their passion for leadership and for the expertise that they all possessed.
She served about 11 years in the military and the US Army, of course. And she continued to serve and support her husband who went on to have a full career in the military.
Today is the final episode in this LeadHERship series and will close out the great debate of are leaders made or born? It's really exciting to see how they agree or disagree...What do you think Vicki will say?
According to Catalyst, In 2019, women made up the highest share of managers in human resources (74.8%). Their share of management in selected other industries was:
Medical and health services (69.7%)
Food service (46.5%)
Women are falling behind early in their careers. If first-level women managers were hired and promoted like men, there would be 1 million more women in management over the next five years.
All 5 of the women we will hear from in August 2021, are leaders and have held leadership positions in and out of the military and have developed classes and an entire business to helping other leaders thrive.

This week, we continue the conversation with Bee. I'm so excited to be talking to Bee Clark because she is the mama of the group. She and her husband have really taken on such a sweet role throughout their military career of really guiding and mentoring and being that constant contact for many soldiers that they get the privilege to lead. Bee is another one of those incredible drill sergeants who had the opportunity to really impart her wisdom at the earliest stages of the development of soldiers. She served for 23 years in the United States Army and retired as a Master Sergeant. My favorite part about the conversation was within the first 30 seconds, which she said she was a diehard Cowboys fan.
And we will be continuing the debate of are leaders made or born? It's really exciting to see how they agree or disagree...Where will Bee stand?
According to Catalyst, Despite a Record-High Number of Fortune 500 Women CEOs in 2020, There are Still Nearly 13 Companies Run by a Man for Every Company Run by a Woman.
But before they even get close to the glass ceiling, women face barriers in advancing to their first management roles.
In the United States, women were nearly half (47.0%) of the labor force, but only slightly over a third (40.0%) of managers in 2019.
In 2019, white women held almost a third (32.3%) of all management positions.
Women of color held a drastically smaller share of management positions:
Latinas: 4.3%
Black women: 4.0%
Asian women: 2.5%

She served honorably for 28 years in the US Army, holding critical leadership roles throughout her career to include being a drill sergeant! She is the second of five women we get to hear from this month from the iDIG team. iDIG is the Innovative directions investment group, an organization that understands leadership is a continuous process at all levels, and they tailored their leadership programs to fit individual company needs.
Globally the Share of Women in Senior Management is Increasing Incrementally In 2019, the proportion of women in senior management roles globally grew to 29%, the highest number ever recorded. In 2020, this percentage remains the same.
Eighty-seven percent of global mid-market companies have at least one woman in a senior management role in 2020. (According to catalyst).
All 5 of the women we will hear from in August 2021, are leaders and have held leadership positions in and out of the military and have developed classes and an entire business to helping other leaders thrive.
I hope you are hungry for this wisdom.
My favorite debate of all time gets hashed out each episode....are leaders made or are they born? Tune in to hear where Ms. Marlena Goode stands on the debate.

For the whole month of August, The Freedom Sisters Podcast is brought to you by IDIG, LLC.
Today, we sit down with Tiffany Adams, currently still serving in the Army, a mom and a leader. She is the first of five women we get to hear from this month from the iDIG team. iDIG is the Innovative directions investment group, an organization that understands leadership is a continuous process at all levels, and they tailored their leadership programs to fit individual company needs.
Globally, women hold just 24% of senior leadership positions. The U.S. lags behind the global average at 21%, compared to China where women hold 51% of senior leadership slots. Women represent 45% of the S&P 500 workforce, but only 4% of the CEOs, according to iwl.nichols.edu.
We know this all too well in the military where only 18% of the force is female and in 2008, Gen. Ann Dunwoody would be the first female 4-star general ever. We know that women are worthy and capable of leadership, but how do we get there when there is little or no mentorship?
All 5 of the women we will hear from in August 2021, are leaders and have held leadership positions in and out of the military and have developed classes and an entire business to helping other leaders thrive.
I hope you are hungry for this wisdom.

Shannon Huffman Polson is a genuine leader that cares for others. I got the pleasure of sitting down with her for the Freedom Sisters Magazine and what an inspiration she truly is.
She is the first woman to fly an apache on Fort Bragg. One of the first to earn the level of expertise in the AH-64 Apache Airframe. In 1993, when the Combat Exclusion Ban was lifted, she went all into making the dream a reality.
She was the youngest woman at the time in 1993, to climb Denali, the highest summit in North America. She is a mom, wife, author, speaker and entrepreneur. It is my greatest joy to have Shannon on the show today!

Our guest this week is a fellow PodcastHER and combat veteran CPT (R) Lindsey Rowland who hosts the Carry On Podcast. She and her guests on their take on the military, veterans issues, legislation, transition and life. Lindsey’s carry on approach broaches tough topics and creates a compelling platform with guests ranging from the military, veteran community, civilians, legislators and topic experts in their field.
Carry On, originally derived from the standard go back to work in the military, takes on a multifold of meanings here in the form of carrying on through the challenging times in life with entertaining discussions and stories by both guest and host on facing their own personal adversity.
Carrry On also brings perspective and awareness to resources, tools, programs and opportunities to help those transitioning from the military to carry on with success in their civilian life and after.
As a veteran who is still transitioning, Lindsey brings a frank perspective to the table while providing entertaining banter in addition to educating her audience with valuable information. Let's go today we are talking with Jennifer Brofer as we continue the EntertainHERs Series here on the Freedom Sisters Podcast.
Jennifer Brofer is a producer and actor who served as a Marine Corps broadcast journalist. Growing up, she always had a love for theater and film, but she put her dreams on hold in order to answer the call to military service.
In 2010, she deployed for a year to Afghanistan’s Helmand Province as the 1st MLG (Forward) Public Affairs Chief, coordinating news coverage of the unit’s forward-deployed Marines and sailors.
In January 2012, Brofer was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps and went on to attend film school at The University of Texas at Austin, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Radio-Television-Film. She is now the CEO of Right Face Productions. In 2020, she joined the California State Guard.
When she's not making films or looking at kittens on Instagram, she volunteers as an ambassador for Pin-Ups for Vets, an award-winning non-profit organization that benefits hospitalized veterans and deployed troops across the globe. She is a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and a member of The American Legion Post 43.

We are wrapping up our series with our mother/daughter duos today and we have such a treat for you.
This episode is full of love and grace. My favorite thing about this duo is the fact that Tanya, the momma came into Amber's life and healed her broken parts and accepted her FULLY as a daughter.
I just love the sincerity and compassion yet extreme ambition with this pair! A story of hope, healing and belonging.
Being in the military is hard, being a mother in the military is harder—this series has hopefully given you a glimpse of the incredible commitment it takes to serve at home and in the military.

May is a fun month, all month long to honor MotHER's day, we are bringing you 5 weeks of mother/daughter duos to the show. You get to hear about the family dynamics, honor and how the military really is a family business for these special mother-daughter teams.
This week is week 3 and we have Kathy Donovan and Emily Cirocco.
Both women are Navy, one retired after 30 years of faithful service and the other still serving and getting ready to be a recruiter! I was a captain in the Army an O3 but a Captian in the Navy is an O6, which is the rank right below generals/admirals. Really senior ranking and the competition is steep. Kathy Donovan achieved that rank in her 30-year career and is known as a legend to those who served under her. Her daughter Emily Cirocco is a Petty Officer 3rd Class and looking forward to continuing to serve and make a name for herself in the Navy.
Emily is a new mom and we get to hear both women gush over the baby, hear about the fun they had served together, special memories and how they became a family. Our first blended family in the series with a very special bond and story. I hope you leave this conversation knowing that blood is not thicker than water, you can serve and parent well, and mostly finding what works for your family to be the mom and the military member you want to be!
We have some great tips and advice for you today, so let's dive in.

But I want my guest to be authentically represented and I loved her vernacular, so we are all adults over here and can handle it - but wanted to also inform in case you may be offended.
I implore you to listen if you are a leader, or you want to serve or you are getting ready to transition like Tasha. After 20 years, she is retiring from the US NAvy and ready to set sail into her next journey!

She has made an impact for generations in her teaching career, which was made possible by the GI Bill and scholarships, she felt she was able to receive because of her experience in the military.
Amelia is now 95-years-old, a retired teacher who doesn't own a computer or a smartphone. Recording her interview was a good old-fashioned phone call.

Trigger Warning: Hey listeners, we want you to prepare for this conversation so that you can adequately engage or, if necessary, disengage for your own wellbeing. Some of today's content may cause intense physiological and psychological symptoms for people with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other anxiety disorders.
To the family's left behind from the Oso Mudslide that I mention in this episode, please know our thoughts and prayers are with you. I will never forget them.
Nicole and Kerri dive into part 2 of this conversation, it's almost like a coaching call between us, we share tears, real vulnerable stories and heartache coupled with breakthroughs.
Nicole Smith is a Military Veteran turned Life Coach and Mental Wellness Advocate, who recently retired after 20 years of honorable service in the United States Coast Guard. While serving our country, she suffered from anxiety and depression in silence. She stayed quiet out of fear. Fear of judgment, shame, the possibility of losing her job, and ultimately the fear that no one would understand.
But after hitting rock bottom, she is now helping other women veterans and military spouses navigate their freedom too!
Verse of the week: Psalm 32:7.
You are my hiding place;
you will protect me from trouble
and surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah.

Then, 18-year old Nicole Smith arrived at her first duty station in some fishing town in Oregon. She signed in for duty as an operator, basically performing the duties of a 9-1-1 dispatch for the US Coast Guard. Years after being told to brush aside her emotions, suck it up and drive on and mission first, in addition to her own personal struggles--suffered a broken heart.
What manifested in a massive panic attack, Nicole was experiencing suicide ideations and was in deep darkness, but then the doctor who was treating her panic attack spoke kind words and for the first time in forever, Nicole felt seen and understood.
After having success in her own healing journey with a life coach, Nicole has become one herself, when she exited her 20-year Coast Guard career.
Now she is passionate about helping other women veterans and military spouses find true freedom for themselves as well.
Verse of the week: Matthew 18:12-14.
12 “What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? 13 And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. 14 In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.

Carrie Beavers is an Independent Affiliate at Scars and Stripes Coffee, and also a Scars and Stripes Squad leader for the Northeastern United States. She is a Disabled Veteran who served in the U.S. Army for 10 years on active duty and 5 months in the Army Reserves as a Combat Medic.
When she saw began her entrepreneur journey she was struggling with PTSD, depression, anxiety, and feeling stuck in her life. Who can relate to that? Unsure of the path you should take or stuck in the mundane or worse trapped in a mindset you want to be free from?
She had a great paying job as a nurse, but she felt like something was missing. Soon after joining the company she started to gain more confidence and felt that void being filled by being around other veterans, and of course, she loves the coffee so it was a win, win.
But now her life and business venture are even bigger as she is on the cusp of launching her very own coffee company, called Soldier Girl Coffee. Her humor, drive, authenticity is incredible and energizing.....plus the coffee she sells is darn good, yall!
I cannot wait for you to hear this story and know that no matter where you are on the journey there is a path made just for YOU....so take one step at a time and work towards the goal you have set out to crush!

Have you ever received news that rocked your world and you didn't know what you would do next? That is exactly what happened to our guest, Sheila McGlown, who after 25-years of military service was forced to retire as a result of her Metabalize Breast Cancer diagnosis. Due to disparities in cancer treatments for black people, Shelia didn't even know black women got breast cancer, this was back in 2010 - but now over 10 years later, she is doing all she can to educate and empower women of color to be advocates for their health.
She is a lobbyist, a champion in the clinical trials world, and an encourager for other men and women who are also living with MBC.
Unfortunately, almost every person in this nation has somehow been impacted by cancer. In this episode, we hope that there is something new you learn about clinical trials, DoD initiatives, causes, and early interventions. Furthermore, there is a deep level of trust and faith in God in this story you are about to hear, lean into that space, and see what peace is available for you today in spite of your circumstance.
In service,
Kerri Jeter
host
Verse of the Week: Matthew 17:20 “For I assure you: If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

Let's talk overwhelm, shall we? I mean we all have been there, with so many areas demanding our attention and sometimes it is hard to navigate which area is the most important and then....wham, melt-down, adult temper-tantrum ensue. Our guest is a woman of many talents and helping others navigate out of the overwhelm is one of them.
Angela Demaree is our guest today she is a Consultant, Podcaster, Trailblazer, Veteran, Veterinarian, 6th Gen Hoosier & Equine Enthusiast. She ran for Congress in the 5th district of Indiana before it was cool.
Have you struggled with setting and maintaining effective boundaries? Are you overwhelmed with the amount of new information we are bombarded with every day and just don't know where to start to get everything accomplished? You are not alone. Knowing your personal values and taking action that's aligned with your values is THE most important thing you should consider before you say yes to that next request, mindlessly turn on the TV or reach for that carton of ice cream.
Knowing how and when to take action, what to say no to, and how to set and maintain effective boundaries are a MUST right now. In order to serve at your best, you need to first take care of yourself.
She even has a one-hour course to help you start setting boundaries that work for you! Register at: https://www.pawsconsulting.com/overwhelm.
This week I hope you find care, love, and relief from the overwhelm.
Bible Verse: (I figured since she loves animals, what better verse than to talk about the creation of all creatures).
Genesis 1:22 So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

*Please note this conversation does talk about Military Sexual Trauma, the death of Vanessa Guillen, and other topics about corruption that may be heavy to carry or may cause it hard to listen to at times.**
Have you found the power in your voice? How it can be used to take down giants and stand up against the majority? Do you know that it only takes 25% of the minority to make a change for the majority? Did you know that women who serve in the military makeup 19% of the force....ladies we are almost to that critical percentage to break free of some of the major oppressions we have experienced while in uniform.....stay in the fight...keep serving with valor.
Be bold, be brave, be beautifully you!
Our chat with Pamela Campos-Palma was capture to write a feature in the Freedom Sisters Magazine for our January 2021 issue, She is the LeadHER we all want on our side, standing for justice, peace, and security for all who serve. She wasn't to make the world fundamentally safe, not just cosmetically safe.
And friends, she is doing it. She is a Strong, Valient LeadHER! With her efforts and the help of other giants in the fight for MST Justice, massive changes are ahead.
I want you all to consider:
The power of your voice;
How to fight without yelling;
How to be bold in spite of the adversaries;
and ultimately how to make effective changes in our world by the power of activism.
There is a hope that is palatable in the fight for Justice for all SurviveHERs.
This week's bible verse:
Job 12:22 He uncovers the deeps out of darkness and brings deep darkness to light.

For the love of all things amazing, this week's episode is fire! Retired Brig. Gen. Loree Sutton is our guest on today's show and she blew me away and I know you will be blown away by her too!
She had an incredible career in the Army and achieved the rank of Brig. Gen. and is the Army's highest-ranking Pcyhatrist to date. She has given her professional advice on areas of MST and PTSD and has been featured in the documentaries, Invisible War and Thank you for your Service. Although we discuss policy changes and improvements we both hope to see in the military, I think you will find the overall tone of this interview hope-filled and encouraging.
Loree has led the way to eradicate homelessness among Veterans in NYC, which is home to 210,000 Veterans. She is running for the Presitiguois title of Mayor Of NYC and I am here for it! I love that more and more women veterans are venturing into politics and truly she is an honest, good, personable leader; we all could learn from her.
Topics we cover and areas to ponder as you sit down with us today:
What are your bedrock values?
How do you serve others?
If you see change is needed, what do you do about it?
Where does your hope come from?
Sometimes a good song and a different perspective are all you need to help raise up others.
Live a life of wisdom, always seek it, and always make the path better for those who will follow us.
Bible Verse of the week:
“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” Hebrews 6:10
Cheer Loree on as she runs for Mayor of NYC, she could be the FIRST FEMALE Mayor of NYC when she wins!

Mitchelene BigMan is a fierce and compassionate leader. She served for 20 years in the US Army and is the foundHER of Native American Women Warriors a nonprofit for Native American women veterans. Their organization started out as the first all-women Native American Colorguard and quickly grew to help others from the Sovereign Nations of America.
Things to consider when listening to this incredible conversation about Mitch's life:
-Be proud of who you are
-Live a life where you don't take your freedoms for granted
Step boldly into your passions and trust God's plan on your life
Healing is different for everyone, sometimes dancing through the pain is just the right thing you may be missing.
Isaiah 40:31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Many Veterans can relate to the feeling of unworthiness when transitioning from uniform to business suit. I personally relate my transition as an identity crisis moment in my life. Our sister today, is no exception of feeling that her worth was not known or seen.
She thought, is it me? Am I over-educated? Am I undereducated? It was like she couldn't find this happy medium. She could not get anything from the lowest entry-level job, up to where she was qualified with her education. At the time she already had her master's degree and she thought, what am I worth? Anything at all? Nobody sees it. Nobody saw her worth.
Here is the deal today we talk about:
our broken pieces;
our faith journey and how God's timing trumps ours;
and how we can be the light and example for others to not hide in the darkness or allow the darkness to consume them.
We all need each other, we all have something to give, we all have greatness in us and we also have weaknesses. We have to break the silence and speak up to not only help ourselves but to help others as well.
Lindsay Gutierrez is a phenomenal advocate and I am so proud of her commitment to Veterans, Laws, and Regulations and helping others overcome hardships to find God's love for themselves.

This is our first sponsored series on the Freedom Sisters Podcast. Thank you to Redefining You Foundation for this incredible 3-part series, we kick off today!
Have you ever tried to present yourself in a new way to the world, you thought you were presenting a fresh new you, but in reality all you were doing was masking what was happening inside of your mind and heart? If you said yes to this, then you probably experienced a time in your life that you RE-INVENTED yourself. Reinventing means change (something) so much that it appears to be entirely new. Key word appears; you really didn't change; you just made it appear as such.....
So, let's ask this question: have you ever had to look at your life and make real point of view changes. A process that you reexamined and reevaluated your feelings or environment and saw that what existed was not working? And as a result of this examination, transformed yourself to being different? This my friend is redefining. Redefining means to transform.
Just like the caterpillar who goes through the metamorphosis process to completely transform her existence, this is what happens to Women Veterans when we leave service. We can no longer be the caterpillar, our way of life is changing and we need to go through the transformation and embrace what is on the other side of service.
This week we lay the foundation of our 3-part series, with our beautiful sisters, Shellie Willis and Evelyn Tuiana from Redefining You Foundation.
Let's start the work of transformation.

This week we have a real treat for you, Cheyenne Hernandez is in the house! She joined your host, Kerri Jeter for an insightful and encouraging conversation.
From homeless to Hollywood bombshell....Catch Cheyenne Debut her Unstoppable Acting—from the Armed Forces to Bad-Ass Fight-Mode in Film!
Cheyenne Rae Hernandez is an empowering force to be reckoned—from struggle to carving her own path through life and finding the meaning to happiness and success, despite a turbulent past. This Latina/Native American icon from El Paso, Texas, always felt that acting was her ultimate calling, even while enlisting in the Army at only 16-years old. Who knew that her journey was all part of the process in actualizing her ultimate vision that she held onto as a child.
“I enlisted as a combat medic and wound up being one of the first group of females stationed in Schofield Barracks 1-14th infantry unit. I served just under 4 years. During my first year enlisted, my little brother also enlisted so that he could try to get stationed with me. He had just enlisted and was leaving for basic training in 2 weeks, when I got the call that both of my brothers were killed by a drunk driver on Christmas Eve. My whole world was shattered.”
When her life felt like it was in a downward spiral, she fought to keep it together while serving her country—that was when she was injured in a terrible military vehicle accident in the Mojave Desert, which resulted in a traumatic brain injury and loss of feeling to her right hand. After being discharged, Cheyenne felt like a “a broken machine.”
“I moved to Washington state until it hit me—I had put my hand on my brothers casket, and promised I would live out our dreams for the both of us. I wound up packing up and moving to Hollywood by myself and living in a car for a few of months and showered at the gym.”
Despite being divorced and homeless, Cheyenne persisted and met her acting coach who asked her to audition for the film “The Tax Collector,” where she landed a leading role as the villain. She applied her extensive background from the military and performed her own stunts!
After intense training in MMA, she quickly became known as a Super Weapon—she fights, falls, and can handle different weapons. She is now a blue belt in Brazilian Jujitsu, American Kenpo and study Russian Boxing as well. Action Thriller Movie The Tax Collector is an upcoming American crime thriller film written, directed, and produced by David Ayer. The film follows two tax collectors for a crime lord named Wizard whose business becomes upended, resulting in one of them desperately protecting his family from an old rival.

After her youngest sister’s diagnosis rocked their world with aggressive breast cancer. He sister is a Mom of three; then 34-years old. Everything was wrong with that picture.
It was late 2014 and Robin wanted to leave the classroom for the final time. She was overwhelmed, exhausted, angry and depressed, her writing voice fell silent and she stumbled into mixed-media art.
She discovered art could be a healing tool – giving her space to feel and focus – and not asking anything in return.
In 2015, She established RobinLK Studios, her home-based studios to make inspirational art and eventually, teach women how to discover and use their creativity to heal and/or grow, too.
Her writing voice would return to her while discovering art and its influence on her writing,
She has continued to make art and began creative art journaling in 2018. Through the Creative Process, she figured out what matters to her and why it’s important. Helping other women map their path, slay their goals, overcome lack of confidence, and find the deepest level of satisfaction and happiness is what she is doing now.
Most importantly, I learned what was holding me back and what I needed to learn (and do!) to reach my goals.
It’s 2020 and Robin, is teaching women like you the process she went through to gain clarity and confidence to follow her heart, fill her skills gaps, and reach her goals.
Now it’s your turn.
Are you ready to show up for you?
ROBIN LK Studios is for you, find out more here.

At an early age Vanessa “Siren” Mahan was exposed to aviation, whether she was attending numerous air shows, flying with her dad in a borrowed Cessna, or traveling standby on commercial aircraft to go on vacations. While she had a passion for adventure and was seeking to flee the nest of home, she wasn’t sure about a career choice. She decided to take a chance. She applied for and received an Air Force ROTC scholarship to Purdue University. It was there that she fell in love with the Air Force and serving.
When 9/11 occurred in her junior year, her call to serve got stronger, but she knew she must be patient and finish school. She excelled in AFROTC, finishing at the top of her class, as a Distinguished Graduate. This earned her her first career choice…an assignment to Strike Undergraduate Navigator Training at Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola. With hard work and extreme dedication, she again received her first choice of aircraft…the F-15E Strike Eagle.
As a Weapons System Officer (WSO) in the Strike Eagle, she would deploy in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM (OEF) at Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan. Her primary mission would be Close Air Support (CAS), protecting joint and coalition forces from above. After two back-to-back tours in support of OEF, Siren chose an assignment flying the EA-6B with the Navy at NAS Whidbey Island where she would also be stationed with her Navy husband. Siren became the first female Air Force Prowler aircrew to be assigned to a fleet carrier squadron and spend time on the USS Stennis doing “workups” for deployment.
After having two kids and ten years of active duty flying, Siren made the difficult decision to transition to the Air Force Reserves. She currently works as an Air Operations Staff Officer at Special Operations Command Pacific in Hawaii. When she isn’t serving in the Reserves, she pursues expanding her business “Siren Strong” where she trains/coaches clients in a holistic method as a certified functional fitness and health coach. She also enjoys spending time with her husband, two kids, and golden retriever puppy “Blue”.

Michelle Bravo has been a dear friend of mine for the past 6-years. This is the very first episode that from beginning to end we talk all about Jesus. Its rather exciting for me, as I am super comfortable in my faith and listening to her story was so inspiring to go deeper still. We pray, which prayer has been the number one requested thing for me as a leader to do for my sisters, Michelle and I talk very little about Army times but I have a feeling she w:ill be back again so you all can listen to more good news.
Luke 8:3 is a very meaningful verse to her and I and we love that you get to hear about this as well. Pretty amazing chapter as a whole Luke 8, Jesus talks about the women who were supporting his ministry, then goes out to heal a woman, raise a girl from the dead, preach about the parable of the seed, and so much more.
I am so honored to present Michelle Bravo, US Army Retired Veteran and my dear sister-in-service and sister-in-Christ!
be blessed.

A current USAF, second lieutenant serving as the Equal Opportunity Director for the Kentucky Air National Guard, leading a Tiger Team for cultivating diversity and The Community Action Team Leader, one would think Shonda Unseld has enough on her plate. But she has a passion for community improvement and travel, she created a travel company that focuses on group travel so others can travel, serve, inspire. Her business model is unique and I loved listening to her talk about her journey so candidly. #Justgo #Passportsmatter

Today we joke, get real deep in the systemic racism in America and we talk about southern food! This is what I love about the format of this podcast, its like being a fly on the wall when 2 sisters get together for coffee or drinks (okay, Jesus turned water into wine....) and we talk about so many different things.

Life is hard but life is beautiful, that really sums up this week's conversation.
*TRIGGER WARNING****
Kerri speaks to Monique Brown, her beautiful black sister about her journey here on earth. An Army Veteran, MST Thriver, Advocate and Leader in civil unrest.....we talk about all the ways she has faced adversity and overcame with her integrity intact. I was so honored to sit down with Monique. We talk about Vanessa Guillen and the need for reform in the Department of Defense, we discuss Black Lives, systemic issues and police brutality. But my favorite part of the conversation was talking about Fob Hope, her non-profit helping homeless veterans in Washington State (primarily King County).
Listen in to my most favorite conversation discussing all the hard things but hearing God's love surround us as we march along.

Have you ever felt you needed help but no one would listen to you? Well, here is a story of great triumph in re-gaining her faith and finding her truth in the love of God. Samantha Moore loves the Army and continues to serve today but has found herself in harms way of leadership who instead of fixing a problem with gender-based violence - turned the other way and allowed it to continue. Her love for duty and her undying love for her children are more powerful than any of the hardships she has endured. Even more so, to give purpose to her pain - she is now the Situational Awareness Director for Pink Berets. I invited this sister onto the podcast because I saw her welcome home video when she surprised her three daughters upon coming back from deployment. I am so glad to have met her now and that she opens up today about her struggles but more so about her victories. Samantha Moore is a leader of a girl gang and rocking motherhood and military service so well. I am so happy to introduce you all to this incredible sister! Find out more about Pink Berets here.

Have you ever had to hide who you truly were because of fear? Well, this week's episode is very thought provoking and so special to me, because our guests are my sister, Sarah and her Marine Veteran Wife, Amanda. I have learned so much from both these women about love, kindness and compassion. These two could not be paired more perfectly, its like country mouse and city mouse, peanut butter and jelly, molasses and ginger. I am proud to have firsthand knowledge of their love story, their self love and learning to love God who created them just as they are. We talk about two very special men in their lives that have served and are no longer with us. We honor Kelly Morris, US ARMY Sergeant who was KIA in Iraq March 2005 and Blade Campbell, US Navy, who was just embarking on his post-service chapter, when he was murdered at the young age of 23. We honor all the fallen heroes, the brave men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. You are gone but not forgotten. I mention 3 names in this podcast who are great resources for the LGBTQ+ Community and supporters.Jen HatmakerGrace BaldridgeBrenda Davies
