When people think of sports, they almost always think of playing as the only way to do it.
But it’s not.
I dated a girl once whose career dream was being an accountant for her favorite NFL team.
My 9yo son’s flag football coaches are high school varsity football players who dream of coaching as a career.
And my 15yo son, who also coaches a youth flag football team, is currently playing football for my guest Bobby Ruff, the head football coach at Liberty High School in SC.
If you’ve ever thought about coaching as a career or are just interested in the inside scoop on high school football, you gotta check this one out.
Bobby Ruff is a young man who’s already hit the pinnacle of his profession and found out exactly where he wants to be, and it wasn’t at that pinnacle.
A little background on Coach Ruff-
Coach Ruff brings a strong background in defensive leadership, player development, and program-building, with experience spanning high school and collegiate football. Most recently, he has served as Assistant Inside Linebackers Coach at Liberty University, including as part of the Flames’ coaching staff during the 2023 Fiesta Bowl against Oregon, where he has worked closely with defensive personnel, game planning, film breakdown, and recruiting at the Division I level.
Prior to his time at Liberty University, Coach Ruff served as Defensive Coordinator at Easley High School, where the program developed one of the most statistically successful defenses in the state, recorded its first playoff appearance and first winning season in 15 years, and developed multiple All-State players. His coaching experience also includes several roles at The Citadel, where he worked with linebackers, safeties, defensive line, and tight ends, contributing to nationally ranked rushing and defensive units.
“Coach Ruff is exactly the type of leader we were searching for,” said Johnny Garrett, principal of Liberty High School. “His experience, energy, and commitment to developing young men both on and off the field make him an excellent fit for Liberty High School and our community.”
Coach Ruff is a native of Charleston, South Carolina, and a graduate of Charleston Southern University, where he earned a degree in Public Relations and was a three-year starting linebacker, team captain, and All-Big South selection. His coaching philosophy emphasizes accountability, relationships, and creating a positive culture that supports academic success, character development, and competitive excellence.
Liberty High School Athletic Director Jonathan Dilworth added, “Coach Ruff’s enthusiasm for the game is evident the moment you meet him. He brings a high-level knowledge of football and a clear commitment to leading student-athletes both on and off the field, and we are excited to begin a new era of Red Devil football under his leadership.”
Coach Ruff shared the following about joining Liberty High School:
“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve as the Head Football Coach at Liberty High School. This is a community that cares deeply about its students and its traditions. My goal is to build a program rooted in competition, discipline, accountability, and purpose - one that develops young men who represent their school and community the right way.”

I’ve always wanted bees.
Now that I have a farm and realize how much work everything is, I’ve changed my mind to…
“I want bees on the farm, but I don’t want to do it.”
I’ll likely end up inviting a beekeeper to keep hives on my farm and just trade the space for honey. Even so, there are still multiple ways to make income from even that.

I thought I knew Daniel Walker from our talks inside the Passive Income Engines membership, but I had no clue about his origin story and how little I actually knew about him.
This guy helped his dad haul trash as a kid, became a plumber, got fired several times, made his first million by 25, and was broke at 30.

I'm back from Florida and home with my family! How has your week been? I wanted to share this story with you from the trip because it was a lightbulb moment for me and something I think will help you wherever you're at in your business today.
I was all set to speak on "Finding Your Podcasting Niche" at a conference in Sarasota. The topic was clear, and my notes were ready, but God had other plans.
Does this ever happen to you? God changes up the plans on you?
The night before my talk, as I was finishing up some work, I felt God start impressing this phrase on my heart for the people in the room the next day.
It was this: "Stop it! You know what to do." I felt like the people attending my session were full of information but lacked action.
It hit me. Sticking to my planned presentation with more information would add to their confusion, and not lead to a breakthrough. Not because my message was confusing, but because having another "guru" telling you what you need to do when God's already given you the next step, would.
Sometimes we feel comfortable staying in "learning mode" thinking we're moving the needle forward when really we're procrastinating.
If you are finding yourself "stuck", I want to encourage you with this: stop it. You know what to do.
2 Peter 1:3 says that God has ALREADY GIVEN US everything we need for life and godliness. The challenge is we don't think it's enough. Just like the disciples telling Jesus to send the 5,000 people home when the little boy approached Jesus with his 5 loaves and 2 fish - they couldn't see the provision was right under their noses!
Whatever it is that God has put in front of you today - take action on it. Stop asking for more "confirmation" or attending another conference. Stop it. You know what to do. Maybe it's an idea. Maybe it's a very practical step of calling that person or sending that email. Whatever it is - trust God with what He's given you and give that! He is the multiplier of our lives, efforts, families, talents, gifts, and businesses!
