Filmmakers James Martin ("The New Orleans Sazerac") and Babacar Ndiaye ("More Than Music: Senegal") discuss their short films which won the Audience Award and WonderRoot Film Award, respectively, at WonderRoot's Generally Local, Mostly Independent Film Series screening in April. Martin delves into the historical background of the sazurac cocktail and why there's so much local interest in the beverage, while Ndaiye gives some insight into the differences in hip-hop culture in Senegal relative to the United States. Both filmmakers end the podcast by shedding some light on some of their best decisions in the past year. What an awesome conversation!

Prashant Nair and Swati Shetty talk about their journey to becoming filmmakers and some of the important decisions they made along the way in producing their first project, Umrika, which won the World Cinema Dramatic Audience Award at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.

Multidisciplinary artist Michaela Pilar Brown discusses her in-process work, "The Mother Wound", ahead of her Black Box presentation at the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art, how her parents' health challenges have influenced her, and how she has evolved to use her body in her artistic practice. In this artist feature special presentation, Atlanta Public Schools students Kelly Scollard, James Hunt, and Tahira Bradley join WonderRoot Program Manager Matthew Rosenfeld and Atlanta Public Schools Fine & Performing Art Coordinator Betsy Eppes to discuss WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE, WonderRoot's inaugural gallery exhibition collaboration with APS.
The students share some thoughts on participating in the exhibition and how they currently see themselves as artists, while Eppes and Rosenfeld shed some light on the selection process and the vision for the collaboration between WonderRoot and Atlanta Public Schools. The students were recognized from the exhibition in the following categories:

Renee Mussai, curator of Autograph ABP (London), joins the WonderRoot podcast to discuss the "Black Chronicles II" exhibition at the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art. Mussai details the social and political context that surrounds the photography in the exhibit, which highlights representations of black people present in Britain during the Victorian era, as well as the process by which the images were discovered.

In September 2014 the Walthall Artist Fellows held their group exhibition at Gallery 72 in conjunction with the Zuckerman Museum of Art. As the only writer among the Walthall Artist Fellows, Alex Gallo-Brown sent each of the other fellows (visual artists) a poem and asked them to make a piece of visual work in response.
The resulting collection of poems and visual work was then made into a book by a local press and published for the group exhibition. In this recording, Gallo-Brown gives a reading of the poems from this collection.
