Hello Journey Friends and Family, Thank you for your prayers and grace as we closed our in-person worship services this past Sunday. I continue to be grateful for the staff’s ability to put out great online content in all areas of ministry. Unfortunately, we are not in a position to resume in-person worship services this Sunday. Although I was hopeful that we would be able to do so, it is has become clear that it would not be wise at this time. In addition to canceling all in-person worship gatherings this Sunday, we have also closed our offices and the staff are working from home. We have suspended all other gatherings that would take place physically at either Journey location. This would include but is not limited to small groups, student ministry, Bible Studies, Wednesday work crew, iServe, recovery ministry, and any other use of the facilities. Our pastors, staff, and volunteers are continuing to make diligent efforts to stay in touch with everyone who has been impacted so we can pray for them, care for them, and monitor their recovery. Although we can’t predict exactly when we will resume onsite worship services, our goal is to re-open as soon as it is safe to do so. The driving question we are asking when making these decisions is what is the wisest and the most loving thing to do for our community and our church family. Please join me in praying for two things: 1) a full recovery for all who are sick 2) that we will be back gathering together sooner than later. And today we will tackle the conversation of graduation moments. Many of us have experienced a graduation in some form or another: whether that’s from Pre-K graduations, to middle school graduations, to high school graduations and some to university graduations.
Jesus knew how easily people forget, so in his wisdom, He established a visual aid to commemorate His sacrifice for sins that we call communion or the Lord’s Supper. Jesus intended that communion would be a physical expression of a spiritual reality. The purpose of a memorial is to leave a tangible symbol to represent a significant historical event and Jesus impending death on a cross for the sins of the world, followed by his resurrection is THE most significant defining moment ever.

Becoming a mom is certainly one of those defining moments in life--and today we want look at some of the great and not-so-great mom moments of the best known and most misunderstood mother in the Bible: Mary the mother of Jesus.
Today we are starting a new series called Defining Moments. Studies suggest that only 3% of life events are what would be considered highly memorable. The other 97% of life doesn’t make the cut and most of it just fades into the black hole of our subconscious. But the 3% that do make it are the moments that define us, direct us, and distinguish us as individuals. Having a baby, becoming a parent would definitely be a defining moment in life. Pastor John talks to us today about some of the realities of what sitting in the parenting chair means.
Over the past two weeks we have been diving deep into the eighth chapter of Paul’s letter to the church at Rome. Many scholars, theologians and pastors have proclaimed this chapter the greatest chapter in the New Testament, if not in all the Bible. It contains some of the most cherished truths and powerful promises from God about our relationship with Him in Christ. We are going to wrap up today by looking another classic verse from Romans 8:37: We are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
Last weekend, we kicked off a new teaching series called, "Shift Your If" based on chapter 8 of the book of Romans. Today, we’re going to shift our focus from our "if only regrets" to our "what if possibilities". We’re going to move from talking about being forgiven by God to discussing living for God with power, courage and boldness. God did not save you just to keep you safe—he saved you to make you dangerous!
All of us have regrets. Some are benign and some are malignant; some are big, some are small--but we all have regrets that continually make us wonder “if only”. If only I hadn’t missed that; if only I would have said that; if only I hadn’t said that; if only I had been there; if only I just left that party earlier.
So you’ve got all these different kinds of regrets and the reality is our regrets are as unique as we are. The question is, how do we deal with them? The truth is, they have already been dealt with at the cross. There is no regret that God cannot redeem.

Hope has a name and that name is Jesus. "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead…" It's not just any hope. It's not just an unspecified, generic hope of immortality. It is a living hope. What are you putting your hope in?
After looking the cross for three weeks, we are left asking: Ok, I understand the cross, but now what? What do we do after the cross? We lift up the name of Jesus and there is no better time than Easter to do just that. Go and share the good news with someone this week.
We're in a message series called Cross Examine. We’re taking the Sundays leading up to Easter Sunday to explore the why, the what, the who and the so what of Jesus’ cross. What we look at today is…Who? Who is the cross for? The short answer is You. The longer answer is this: Jesus died for you…all of you. The cross speaks to every dimension of your personhood and calls out the best version of you.

- At the cross, our guilt is declared pardoned. Confess your guilt and accept His pardon.
- At the cross, Jesus’ blood gives us life. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he [Jesus] bought with his own blood. (Acts 20:28)
Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. (Hebrews 9:22)
Through Jesus’ blood, you can have new life.
- Through the cross, the grave is overthrown.
At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people. When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!” (Matthew 27:51-54)
“Death has been swallowed up in victory.” “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:54-57)
And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope. (1 Thessalonians 4:13 NLT)
Because of the cross, we have hope.
- At the cross, we see the measure of God’s love for us.
Cross = Love
No one can take my life from me. I sacrifice it voluntarily. For I have the authority to lay it down when I want to and also to take it up again. For this is what my Father has commanded. (John 10:18 NLT)
For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
- The cross brings people to a decision.
God made him who knew no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” (Luke 23:42-43)
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. (1 Corinthians 1:18)

Today we are beginning not just a new teaching series for the next few weekends, but a daily message series for the next 28 days based on the Book of Acts. Jesus had a vision for His church and He communicated that vision to His closest followers. And that’s how the book of Acts starts. So we’re going to just jump right into the opening verses of this great adventure that we are starting today that we are calling Daily Acts.
Today we wrap up a four-part series on what “Love is…” Let’s be real—life is full of irritants and no one is immune. We often say, “Everybody’s Welcome,” and that’s true; it’s also true that everybody is irritating! But Paul says, “Love is not irritable.” People are irritable but love is not. Becoming a disciple of Jesus gives you the power to love people the way Jesus loved people.
No one can get rid of envy by trying really, really hard not to envy. That is never the way of spiritual transformation. Envy can only be gotten rid of as it is replaced with the power of love. When love is present, there's just not room for envy to grow.
The single purpose of your life is to become a thoroughly loving person rooted in the care of God through our friend Jesus--and the purpose of our church is to be a community of love. In this series, we are renewing our commitment to make love our number one thing in this New Year--to be what we are known for, what we talk the most about, and what we value above all.
Over and over the whole story of the Bible comes down to one word: love. Life is about love. Our church is about love. Our personal and corporate existence is about love. Spiritual maturity is measured by love. The gauge of a life well-lived is love.
So, today as we start out this New Year, we are beginning a study on the most important topic in the world: Love!

John Piper said: “I have called Christmas “the dawning of indestructible joy” because the joy Jesus was bringing into the world was like no other kind in history. Once we have it, it cannot be destroyed." Today Pastor Dustin gives us three keys to have indestructible joy.
With all that’s happened this year due to COVID, joy may be the last thing you are feeling right now. Where is joy to be found in a world-wide pandemic? How can we have joy amidst layoffs and lockdowns? You may be wondering, “Is joy even possible this Christmas?” Luke answers that question for us: Joy is not found in the absence of problems. Joy is found in the presence of Jesus. That is the message of the manger. Joy has been born. Joy is here. Joy is alive. Joy is found in the person of Jesus.
As we come into the Christmas season this year, there is perhaps as much uncertainty and unrest as there ever has been since the very first Christmas. And yet into that dark and oppressive world, a joy was given birth unlike any the world has ever known.
The joy that Jesus came to bring is from outside this world. It is the very joy that Jesus himself has in God the Father—which he has had from all eternity and will have forever. There is no greater joy than the joy that God has in God, because God is the greatest object of joy, and God has the greatest powers to enjoy.

- Through Jesus, anything’s possible promotes a plea for unity because people are won to Christ when they see His disciples are one in Christ.“Father the hour has come. Glorify your Son… (John 17:1)
The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector 9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’
13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’
14 “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
